Opera breaks through 100 million users on desktop

Hey Opera users,
We’re very excited to announce that in October 2026 we reached 100 million monthly active users on desktop! This is the first time we’ve broken through that number, so naturally we feel like celebrating. All you desktop fans now make up more than a third of our nearly 290 million user base.
The alternative choice
This latest milestone comes as we double down on our promise to offer you a compelling alternative to default, pre-installed browsers. We’ve been working hard on giving you reasons to switch, especially in regions where a lot of people tend to stay with their devices’ defaults like Europe and North America.
To do that, we focus on browser innovation and avoiding the market’s usual one-size-fits-all approach. For example, Opera One remains our flagship browser, focusing on productivity and customization. Opera GX is all about gaming. Opera Air zeroes in on digital wellbeing. And for those of you who are interested in exploring the cutting edge of AI-powered, agentic browsing, there’s Opera Neon.
Evolving with the times
On top of that, the role of the browser itself is evolving. We don’t browse in 2026 the same way we did in 2016, and our browser’s approach reflects that. We make sure to keep improving on areas like user experience, privacy and security, and even design and functionality.
Just recently, we gave our VPN the ability to connect automatically when it detects a public WiFi network; we released a dedicated in-browser protection feature for ClickFix-powered attacks called Paste Protect, and introduced the ability to run local AI models right in your browser. And there’s more to come!
As we’re clearing this particular milestone, we’re going to continue to deliver cool features and product innovations, always staying true to our goal: making Opera a more attractive choice for all of you who are looking beyond the default browser.
