Opera Air’s mindful cat has a name now

Hey all,

Last month, just in time for Global Cat Day, we gave a stray cat a home in Opera Air. You’ve probably noticed her already, sleeping, stretching, meditating – keeping you company as you mindfully browse the web. Now, thanks to the Opera Air community, our mindful cat got a name: Inara.

Ever since she landed in Opera Air, our browser cat has gotten a lot of attention – not unlike how people often gravitate toward a friendly cat when they enter a new home. That’s why we wanted to let you, our Opera Air users, have the final say in what our new furry friend is named. After two weeks of voting, the results are in!

The origins of Inara

Given the mission of Opera Air – to help you feel better while you browse – we think Inara is a perfect choice. The name has origins in several different cultures going all the way back to the Bronze Age, where Inara first appears as the Hittite goddess of wild animals. Similar to the ancient Greek goddess Artemis, Inara represents beauty, purity, and spirituality. She embodies a return to our most elemental selves, paired with a sense of oneness with the world around us.

Inara is also an Arabic name, which can be translated as “illumination,” “enlightenment,” “shining light,” or “ray of light.” The name evokes a sense of hope, guidance, and clarity – a dazzling light from without that brings beauty and meaning to our worlds within.

A mindful companion

Opera Air puts free mindfulness tools right at your fingertips to help you feel better while you browse. Boosts use binaural beats to create lush soundscapes that help channel focus, creativity, or relaxation, depending on which frequency you choose. Take a Break offers breathing exercises, neck stretches, and two forms of guided meditation to help bring calm, clarity, and awareness to the present moment.

And so we think Inara is the perfect mindful companion: she’s a source of light and calm, a reminder to slow down and engage in self-care, and a friendly presence in an often-chaotic digital landscape.

Now that Inara has a name, you can count on seeing her appear more often within Opera Air (although you can always disable our browser cat by right-clicking on it).

Keep your eye on the Opera Air Instagram account, where we’ll have some information about how you can win in an Inara-themed giveaway!
