Opera Wallet for Crypto Browser: Malicious Recipient Address Check

Opera Wallet Malicious Address Check

Hello Web3 enthusiasts!

Opera Crypto Browser not only unlocks Web3, but provides a safe and secure way to manage your cryptocurrencies and tokens. Because of this, security is at the forefront of the browser’s functionality, and we have a variety of dedicated Web3 security features to protect you against fraud and scams.

The latest security addition to the Opera Wallet for Crypto Browser, Malicious Recipient Address Check helps protect you against fraud when performing transactions within your Opera Crypto Wallet for Crypto Browser. It does this by screening the recipient address against a list of known malicious agents.

How to identify malicious activities in Opera Wallet for Crypto Browser

We check if the recipient address, (including supported human-readable crypto handles, domains from YAT, ENS, FIO and Unstoppable Domains) has any history of malicious activity, helping you avoid crypto scams. These malicious activities include:

  1. Whether this address has owned or created honeypot tokens, or other scam tokens
    • If a risk is identified, you will receive a corresponding warning such as “Owning honeypot tokens” below the recipient address field
  2. Whether this address has a history of phishing activity
    • If a risk is identified, you will receive a corresponding warning such as “phishing activity” below the recipient address field
  3. Whether this address has implemented blackmail activities

  6. Whether this address has any history of malicious mining activities

  7. Whether this address has a history of darkweb transactions
    • If a risk is identified, you will receive a corresponding warning such as “darkweb transactions” below the recipient address field
  8. Whether this address has any history of cybercrime

If none of the malicious activities listed above are found, no warning message will be displayed. However, this does not guarantee that the recipient address is safe. It just means that no malicious event in our database has been linked to the recipient address. For this reason, please ensure that you know and trust those you perform transactions with before approving the transaction.

When running the address check, the full recipient address you have inputted is transformed into a hash value. Part of this hash value is then sent to Opera’s internal server to cross-reference for any malicious history connected to the address hash. This process ensures that only needed information is used for screening, and none of your recipient addresses are collected, stored or shared with anyone, as we aim to protect your privacy along with your security.
