Opera developer 25 update: From Developer to developer

Today, we released a new update to Opera developer 25. This update comes with a few fixes for things like bookmarks, MP3, H.264 and more. A complete list of changes can be found in the changelog.

Opera developer

We decided to change the name of the Opera Developer stream to Opera developer. The change is small, but make more sense together with another change we will make in the near future.

Known issues

We found some problems related to Web Notifications. Here’s some known issues that we’re working to fix:

  • There is no way to toggle notifications on or off in the Settings page
  • There is no way to deny a site’s request to serve notifications
  • The Settings page i crashing on OS X 10.7 and 10.8

Hi Przemek, thanks for the update, and fixes ;-)

  • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Download links are called “Opera *D*eveloper” ;)

    • Przemek Kudła

      Good catch :) Thanks

      • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

        Better ;)
But you forgot the “Latest downloads”-section to the right.

        • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

No, we didn’t forget it. It just takes a while for changes to deploy. Everything is under control. :P

        • Przemek Kudła

This is known issue, opera.com will be updated later.

  • Dmitry Kirin

The change is small, but make more sense together with another change we will make in the near future.

Looks so surreal I can’t help asking: is that a renaming of Desktop Team to Desktop team? ;) /sarcasm

    • FrankyBoy1234

      Opera to opera

      • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

        Understatement is charming ;)

    • NoName

It’s “Opera Next” to “Opera beta”. Maybe “Opera Beta” ;)
It was in the changelog some days ago.

      • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

If it was “Opera Beta” than how exactly does changing “Developer” to “developer” make more sense? :P

        • NoName

          I was just kidding :)

Here’s an entry from the recent changelog:
DNA-24252 Autoupdate is not working for Opera beta

          • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Irony is just so hard to grasp in writing… *sigh* ;)

            For that matter,

DNA-20341 [Windows] Rename Opera Next to Opera beta – WP1

            ;-)

      • oCircuit

Oh, that’s much better, particularly for casual users. Opera Next calls to futuristic and advanced.

  • Cjcr

This is a much better integration of SD/DISCOVER/BOOKMARKS:

    Mockup of Bookmarks manager:
    http://i.imgur.com/WgVC0Lo.png

    • Shacha GC

replace it with notes please that was useful

  • Inquisitor

The colored bars in the bookmarks list view are gone. :)

    • L33t4opera

Yep, there are also the sites’ favicons, which look nice ;-)

    • Golin

good that things are improving but a FULL import of the bookmark’s system of Opera 12 would still be the best option, i dont understand why create something from scratch when a NICE implementation already exists.

      • YemSalat

Its probably just impossible to port old Opera’s code to chromium.

  • http://toxprox.tumblr.com/ Eric

Opera devs, I can’t log into my sync account since the past 2 Dev channel releases, to test synchronization code functionality.

Thats where your UI gets stuck, nothing happens beyond this point!

    • Wando Schneider

Yeap. I commented here in the first O25 release that and still doesn’t work.

  • XypherCode

Thanks! Btw for Opera stable have you guys fixed that weird playlist bug? Y’know the ones shadowing over the video when scrolling the playlist on the right? It’s fine on Mac but still happens on Windows.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

You’ve got to give us some more context to work with. Where do you see these playlists?

    • oic

I think its fixed, at least the few playlists that I’ve tested it on had no problems

      • XypherCode

Did you try to scroll through the playlist? Sadly still happens on my end even with no extensions enabled.

        • oic

yes I scroll thru the playlist, still no problems
          I have extension enabled.
I had the same problem you do before this dev version, not I don’t see it anymore

          • XypherCode

No problems for me on the developer/next build as well. I meant this for the Stable build.

          • oic

oh, since this is the first dev version that fixed this problem, it will be a while before it goes to next, then stable

          • XypherCode

Well since this was actually a browser.js problem I just thought that regardless of what version you have installed, it will update to the latest browser.js file. For me in Stable at least, it won’t.

  • Vux777

    like FF, Tab groups ?!

    • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

      Yes, it seems so.

    • http://www.operaturkiye.net/ Mağruf Çolakoğlu

Seems a new something with tabs :) go go go…

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

      Close but no cigar.

      • Vux777
      • Footman

        stacked tabs like safari.

    • Lacedaemon

It probably is related to “Tab menu : “Enables tab menu which gives another view of all opened tabs of the current window.” which isn’t what the majority of us want, tab stacking and grouping is! (if possible automatically by domain name as well)

P.S. Plz do something useful, enough with different kind of views. That’s just gimmicks.

      • Vux777

yea, when that flag is enabled, icon in tab bar is shown

    • Vorpal
    • mozzer

Can’t you insert here the recently closed tabs button? You’ve already got the functionality in the Opera menu. Inserting a button as in Opera 12 is very easy and will enjoy a huge number of users. Please, start to listen to us!

      • Vux777

        …no, I can’t
        sry :P

  • Bob

The changelog mentions RPM packages? Are these available to download? I’m already running the last version on Mageia (rpm based distro) after unpacking the deb but anything which makes it easier …

Have you considered setting up repositories for DEB and RPM so linux users will get automatic updates?

  • Cihat

For linux (archlinux) finaly again there is no font issues and windows size.

    • trux

This version works fine with my Arch Linux.

  • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

Any comments about the 64bit builds?

    • Leonardo Gomes

There was one in another post. They aren’t priority right now.

      • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

        Ohh.. ok imissed it.

      • Rafael Luik

        For Windows? Where?

        • Nekomajin43
          • Rafael Luik

Oh, I didn’t pay attention to the context.
Leo said there was one comment not one 64bit build.

          • Lacedaemon

He said though also that he doesn’t follow the Window’s teams investigations and decisions on 64-bit, so there might be hope.

Anyway, it’s about time they go to pure 64-bit, what is it, 6-7 years now since people started to move to 64-bit OSes? Chrome already speaks about the benefits, come on O, always late to the party :P

  • Nekomajin43

I like the renaming. It is a small thing which actually makes sense. (I mean the Next -> beta thing.)

About the bookmarks manager, will you add any kind of sorting option? By name, created date, visited date… I know, the search field is powerful, but it would be good to set a default order when I open a folder.
Will you add a remove option to the heart menu?
Will you add a trash folder to the bookmark tree?

    • senna_4ever

a nickname and drescription field as in O12 would help too

      • Nekomajin43

        That would be good too.

  • kabforks

Paths have big D. Probably not relevant.

    Install: C:Program Files (x86)Opera Developer

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

Paths are for geeks not users. They will remain unchanged. (Too much trouble to move things around for essentially marketing reasons.)

      • NoName

        Not even for new installations?

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

It as a problem when I need to open it to transfer a profile from one PC to another. For example my work PC isn´t updated with all the changes I do on weekends at home.

      • http://www.safakgur.com/ Şafak Gür

My kin are not considered users, then? :D

  • L33t4opera

Creating a new folder, and adding bookmarks to it from the Heart menu, works again, nice! Would be cool, that if you add a new folder, and create a new bookmark in it, then it opens that folder, and not the “Unsorted Bookmarks” ;-)

    • reesmichael1

Interestingly enough, on Mac OS X 10.9.3, Cmd-Shift-B shows/hides the bookmarks bar while Cmd-Option-B opens the bookmarks manager (while also typing a ∫ sign, as I just learned ;-) ). I won’t be able to try in out in Windows/Linux for a while, but I’m curious. Is there any possibility that a similar command works on those operating systems?

      • L33t4opera

Hi Michael, it’s a bit weird, because regarding to this:
“BookmarkManager”: ["Command+Shift+B"], it should open the Bookmarks Manager on Mac :>
On Windows, and Linux, “Ctrl+Shift+B” opens the BM.

  • Dave-H

The window size is now being remembered again!
    Thanks.
    :-)

    • L33t4opera

Hi Dave, close the Opera, go to your Opera’s profile dir, and rename the “Local State” file to e.g. “Local State.old”, then relaunch the Opera, change the window size as you please, close the Opera, and run it again, and see if it helps.

      • Dave-H

        Thanks for the suggestion!
The first time I ran the browser after disabling the Local State file, it looked fine, the window was the right size and everything in it was the right size.
        :-)
Unfortunately, on closing it and opening it again, everything had gone back to as before, with the correct sized window, but everything in it too large and all websites looking as if they were 25% zoomed in again!
        :-(
I think I’m finally going to file a bug about this.

  • SQL
    • SQL

      Seems to be working now.

  • Leonid

Hello! I sent you a bug DNA-24748 about font hinting. Is it possible to recieve some feedback: it’s a bug or not, or chromium bug and won’t fix. Thanks!

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

We generally do not provide feedback on specific bugs. (It would take way too much time.) Add a Google Sorry, but the bug tracking system at Opera is not open for the public. Search alert for your DNA ID, and you’ll get an email when the bug is mentioned in a changelog.

  • Lacedaemon

“The change is small, but make more sense together with another change we will make in the near future.”

Of course it makes sense since the other one will be Opera beta. Why are you afraid of mentioning it? :P

    P.S 8 flags removed…

    • SQL

      What flags exactly?

      • Lacedaemon

Don’ remember :/, all I know was that the last time I checked on the previous build there were 99, now they are 91.

        • Helge Andre Gjølme

Feature flags for features that have been enabled by default for a long time will be cleaned up and removed.

          • ahoj1234

            Sorry, but “slow down! :)
you are lucky that this is so low on the page and “hidden”.

Why you would remove for what we (or most of us) ask all the time? customization.
If the a flag is not “moved” to the setting page it SHOULD NOT be removed from “flags”.
No matter if it’s set as default 1 year or 1 week. Just do not take away features (be able to disable something even if it’s enabled by default) when it was already implemented.

Or made some “flags2″ where will not be flags “for tests” but “for customization”.
It’s important (at least for me) to be able disable/enable some functions that you may (or may not) remove from “opera”flags”.
            thanks for considering it.

          • Helge Andre Gjølme

Opera flags are experiments for new features.

          • Marcin Mitek

Slow down :) Throwing numbers without checking what was removed is pointless. Encoding menu, for example. Yeah, stuff THAT important for your daily browsing. It works, it’s enabled since the year 1954, no reason for keeping its flag anymore, that’s why we removed it. I wonder why it was spotted just now, when we already did one cleanup of flags not so long ago.

As Helge said, we have the flags, because we can freely decide when we enable some features on developement channels.

          • ahoj1234

No offence but according other user he used to use “opera://flags/#hung-plugin-monitor” but now it’s gone TOO :P well, the true is that I have no clue what this flags was doing but… he used it, he probably know it :D

Mostly we agree that some flags do not need to be there as (probably) no one will disable it. But I think you get the point. I was just trying to stop you before you will remove other flags that could be somehow useful for someone. :)
But sure, it’s your browser but as you claim, it’s for us. I understand when something needs to be developed “again” because of different engines but removing something what’s already implemented no matter how useful it is :)

          • Marcin Mitek

Yeah, well, this is unfortunate, I responded to him, it is already fixed internally.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

How can we have a big reveal of the new name if you already know the name? :-P

  • Leonid

How to enable Java plugin on Ubuntu for Opera developer? I can’t find any info about it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

It’s not supported, only PPAPI plug ins, like Chrome, so far only Firefox supports Java in Ubuntu, install the icedtea plug-in using synaptic or the console, to have it working in Firefox. If you already have it in Firefox, then that’s it.

I was told this officialy by Ruari, developer of Opera, some time ago, check the first post about Opera 24 for Linux, or the next, in one of those there’s his explanation to me.

  • Bob

No mp3 or h264 on linux, which is odd since if I overwrite libffmpegsumo.so with the one from Chromium everything works fine. I could understand it if Opera avoided those patent laden codecs entirely, but not why enable them on one platform and not the other?

    • Mateusz Stachowski

It worked for me since the first release supporting those formats and still works without overwriting Opera libffmpegsumo.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

On Windows and OS X, the platforms themselves can provide some playback support for proprietary formats. You are right, the licensing works out differently then.

      • Bob

The same is true for linux. Simply dynamically link the system ffmpeg libs if they are present, instead of using the supplied copy. APIs such as vdpau and vaapi give access to hardware decoding for nvidia, intel and amd hardware.

Believe me I completely understand the concerns around licensing as media playback in open source applications is what I do. However there are ways around the issue on linux just as there are on Windows and OSX.

  • Wando Schneider

Using the Experimental Start Page, after this release, I’m not able to re-organize SDs by drag and dropping them, and the contextual menu on right click, is different when clicked on a SD in a folder, than a SD without being in one folder.

    • Wando Schneider

PS: The Drag and Drop work inside a folder.

    • Herr Pietrus

      Same situation

    • Leonardo Gomes

I can’t get that second menu here.

  • LoverOfLife

Is it possible to unify bookmarks with speed dials ? Just wondering, because they look very similar :)

    • Shacha GC

Oh please your Almost there But not u killled speeddial extention why ?!?!
the speedial is even smaller now

  • Lacedaemon

    Still can’t play HTML5 H.264/MP4 videos on Vista 32-bit.
    http://ie.microsoft.com/TestDrive/Graphics/VideoFormatSupport/Default.html
    http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html

It’s a continuous wip though as I see, so no worries.

  • D G

Just installed Dev 25 1597 and like the previous two builds of Dev 25 it will not run inside Sandboxie. There was no problem with Dev 24 and previous.

Is there some setting that needs changing for this?

  • Ralf Brinkmann

The last version of Opera 25 Dev supported MSE & H.264, this version doesn’t: https://www.youtube.com/html5

    • http://pavelkouril.cz/ Pavel Kouřil

      I have 25.0.1592.0 and it doesn’t support the “MSE & H.264″.

    • SQL

MSE isn’t supposedly supported, and has never been. It was most likely a false detect :)

  • SuuperTommy

It’s cool that the Bookmarks Manager is opening in the same tab now, but it would be even nicer if it had the same sliding transition effect as with Discover.

    • Lacedaemon

Not only that but most important to be able to return to Speed Dial as well.

    • oCircuit

I like the old sliding transition more too. It felt dynamic.

    • Darklink88

I’d like that too, but unfortunately the bookmarks manager seems to be an extension and not a 100% native element…so I don’t know if it will
be possible to give to it the same animations and transitions of rest of the UI

      • senna_4ever

hmmm is that the reason in Task Manager you find a tab named “Bookmarks”, like an extension?

        • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

At the moment, it is implemented as a super-extension.

          • Vux777

            I was wondering…
do devs have power to “whitelist” some extensions, so that they have elevated Privileges?
…like full access to Chrome/Opera APIs/resources from content script, etc…?

      • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

All you see in the webview area—Discover, Speed Dial, Stash, Settings, and Bookmarks—are HTML+CSS+JS.

  • bwat47

The experimental new tab page looks awesome, I’m liking the direction its moving. One improvement that would be nice would be the ability to configure what section of the start page opera defaults to opening when opening a new tab, i.e. opening straight to the bookmarks manager.

The continuing improvements to the bookmarks manager are nice too. Only things thats annoying me is in the bookmarks manager there’s no ‘select all’. for example, it imported all my bookmarks from firefox, and I wanted to move them all to the unsorted bookmarks folder and I had to do it one by one! We should be able to ctrl click, shift click, and ctrl + a like in chrome and firefox’s boommarks managers…

    • http://vinczej.blogspot.hu vinczej

I became familiar with the new experimental start page.I’m glad, that the start page has the ability to switch between the old and new styles. For me it’s cleaner and more “visible” .

    • Lacedaemon

I’ve got all my bookmarks untouched until they finalize all the work on the bookmarks manager. I’m not mentally prepared to do that 1 by 1, no bloody way…

      • FoolOfATook

It’s definitely a work in progress, but as a workaround to the missing features and commands, you can simply drag and select-box items in the bookmarks manager. There’s also a (albeit fairly small) checkbox icon to select items. Right clicking that is the equivalent of Ctrl-Clicking.

        • Lacedaemon

          1 by 1? No bloody way…

  • dflyra

What happened to ‘open all’ in tabs, in the new start page? Are you going to do something for the synchronization matter?

  • http://www.techmansworld.com/ Michael Hazell

  • Farhan Rashid

    How to disable this blocking?

    http://prntscr.com/4esxcg

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

All the modern browsers now agree on this: Users do not disable this on anything by a case-by-case basis. It is a serious security problem on the current page, and the page must be fixed by the author.

      • Farhan Rashid

so you mean it cant be disabled by any mean?
I know site has problem, but still I want to disable it.

      • Farhan Rashid

I still want to disable it please. seems like something to do with javascript

        • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

Its when loading HTTP (unencrypted) resources (scripts, images, etc.) on a HTTPS (encrypted) page. The unencrypted resources are blocked from being loaded on the secure page. Loading them would lower the security level.

          • RX-3200

it kill work of some extensions on https pages

  • Leonardo Gomes

    New flag:

Allow insecure WebSocket from https origin
    Mac, Windows, Linux
This flag makes Opera unsafe. Use this only if you understand what this does. Note that this flag may be removed without any notice. If enabled, frames with an https origin can use WebSockets with an insecure URL (ws://).
    #allow-insecure-websocket-from-https-origin

    • Vux777

is this the same as old one “load insecure content over https”?…

      • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

        No.

        • Hookah1388 .

And where would that be? It shouldn’t be unavailable.

          • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

All the browser vendors agree: this is a page problem that must be fixed by the page author. Users can only override the secure default on a page-by-page basis.

Hi Freon, close the Opera, go to your Opera’s profile dir, and rename the “Local State” file to e.g. “Local State.old”, then relaunch the Opera – maybe it will helps you.

  • oic

could we toggle the heart icon in the address field to add and REMOVE bookmarks. In the past, we could toggle speed dials. If we have an speed dial already added, it will remove it

  • OperaKayo

I like the direction Opera is currently going! Keep up the good work.

Here’s my notes I took that I NEED as features before I can switch from 12.17 to new version :p

“Font Rendering seems different to other browsers? More smooth, any reason for this?

    Right click+Mouse wheel tab change!
Bookmarks side panel like in Presto.
Disable the Bar in Speed Dial that has “Speed Dial – Bookmarks – Discover”.
    Let user disable Discover completely.
Presto like Tab Preview – Not fullscreen.
Open new tab at the end of tab bar – not next to the current tab.
    Trash Can for closed tabs.
    Tab-stacking.”

Please upvote so Opera devs might see this if you agree with any of this :)
    Thank you!

    • siennagold

I’m still using Opera 12.17 and the last time I checked this blog was last year. I still have not switched to the newest version since I don’t know if they still use the same bookmark features as 12.17. What’s the update? Should I switch now or wait several months later again?

      • siamak

I think of several months later, coz this opera do not satisfy you, just like me.

      • OperaKayo

Like siamak said, you should wait. Some pretty important features are still missing and the current bookmarks system is little hard to use if you’re used to the side panel.
It is step in right direction though and if they keep doing these steps I’m fairly sure 27-30 version will be best browser for 12.17 power users.

    • derExperte

      >Right click+Mouse wheel tab change!

The most important missing feature for me. I’ll miss other smaller stuff but if they implement this I’ll finally update.

      • OperaKayo

It’s most important for me too thus the “!”, once you get used to it there’s no going back. Hopefully they implement it back soon.

  • oCircuit

The algorithm for the own logos in speed dial fields, now can’t catch the right colours of the websites. It was better before.

  • oCircuit

Now we need a real Side Panel (:

  • Alacran

Worst build since Opera went Chromium. My Unifi web admin page is messed up, also Zentyal login page is totally messed up. They are working fine in Chromium, Chrome and Firefox.

  • kokolo5

So guys, like the direction you are going (:

I like the new coast-feature very much, much better then screenshots for me.
But there is one problem – the speed dial fields look cool and clean – but it’s not possible to distinguish subpages.

    • Rafael Luik

I have the same problem, I don’t know what I’m going to do to my saved “sessions” (SD groups) where the thumbnails make it a breeze but now it’ll be lost for aesthetics. The thumbnails are far more important than the titles for recognizing my saved pages.
But I do like the aesthetics, I don’t know what to do…

    • YemSalat

Maybe have a small thumbnail of the page in the corner of each block?

      • FoolOfATook

Would be way too small honestly

  • _artem_

this version doesn’t start on my gentoo. no errors. just nothing happens, previous one worked fine

    [~] $ killall opera-developer
    [~] $ opera-developer

btw on the previous one (can’t test on this one, because it doesn’t start) there is no search for pepper flash flag. so no flash at all

    • L33t4opera

this version doesn’t start on my gentoo.

      Hi, try this ;-)

      • _artem_

        thanks, worked )

    • L33t4opera

Regarding to the pepper flash issue, you can try to run the “opera-developer” file, together with two command line switches, as follows:/usr/bin/opera-developer --ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib64/chromium-browser/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=xx.x.xxx.xxx

    • Jacek Oleksy

The is no “search for pepper flash” flag because it is always enabled on Linux.

      • _artem_

why then opera:plugins shows only chrome pdf. however I have chrome installed and it has pepper flash.
haven’t tried yet to launch it with flags like posted above

        • Jacek Oleksy

For a list of possible Pepper Flash paths that Opera takes into account, you can take a look in /resources/pepper_flash_config.json.

          • _artem_

thanks. had to add -unstable to chrome path in /opt/google/chrome/ to
            /opt/google/chrome-unstable/

  • zshello3

I wonder when H.264 support will come to OS X.

  • Denis

I’ve got a small issue on Ubuntu 14.04. After one of updates, the main window doesn’t have a special Opera button (native menu) and I don’t know how to get it back. Any ideas? Might be there is a configuration file with properties used to start the application (I’ve looked through installation directory but haven’t found anything). Unfortunately, I’m not so familiar with Linux systems and have to use Ubuntu in the office.

    • L33t4opera

Hi Denis, “In that case it is supposed to be missing. You now have an integrated Unity menu with all the same entries.” – the source link.

      • Denis

        Oh.. Thanks!

I miss encoding menu, there is no way to change encoding for loaded page.

        • L33t4opera

Until the time before, it will be probably implemented (or fixed), you can a bit to cheat the Opera, that it’s not launched under the Unity ;-) (and thus, force it to display the native O-Menu, within the browser’s UI), just follow the steps:
Open a terminal window, “sudo gedit “/usr/bin/opera.dev”, add the lines as shown below:
          #!/bin/bash

          export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=
          exec /usr/bin/opera-developer &>/dev/null &

Additionally, to be able to resize the browser’s window a bit better, you can change the last linie, as follows:exec /usr/bin/opera-developer --force-native-window-frame=true &>/dev/null &Save the changes, close the file, "sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/opera-dev".
After that, everytime, when you want to launch the Opera, you can run the opera-dev, instead of the opera-developer.

Alternatively you can launch the Opera, go to the address bar, and enter: opera://settings/fonts#font-encoding, press enter, then add this page to: the Speed Dial, or to the Bookmarks Bar, or to the Bookmarks Manager, and use it as a temporary workaround.

You can also try to use alternative, lightweight desktop environments, such as for example: LXDE, Xfce, or even Mate.

  • Veger

The arrows for drop-down menus are drawn too high and too far to the right. (see screen shot). The problem is visible in the build-in Opera pages (e.g. settings page, screenshot), as well as in ‘regular’ web pages.

    Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (x86_64; KDE)

  • vadym

Have a request. When I am typing url in address bar that is not in bookmarks it is appeared in google-suggestions. I am choosing it and come to google search page instead of a page of this site. Could you provide direct opening a page?

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

The Google suggestions are provided by Google. So … its kind of up to Google where they lead. You get the same on Google.com, by the by.

      • IllusionMH

But for *users* it would be more useful to get to valid domain and not to search page.

But I guess this will never changed because of money.

        • Leonardo Gomes

It’s a search suggestion, so it makes sense to show the search results and not go directly to a page.

          • IllusionMH

I know, but it would be great feature to go to valid domains in address field. Sometimes adding / at the end of suggested domain doesn’t work fine, and adding http:// at the front is annoyng

          • Rafael Luik

            Yeah it’s kind of annoying…
About / not working, what I do is highlight the domain suggestion press space then backspace it’s better than /. :)

          • IllusionMH

            Thanks, I’ll try this method

          • Leonardo Gomes

Afaik, if you type the domain on the addres bar, Opera will open that page..

          • IllusionMH

That would be strange if it worked in another way :D
But I try to use Google suggestions to navigate faster. And address bar now doesn’t have g letter (not icon) as if you try to use search shortcut.

Now I’m trying to add space and delete it as Rafael suggested here. Looks like this is the only solution.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Well, the way you’ve posted seemed that it wasn’t working as should in Opera.

And how Google’s Search Suggestions would help you to navigate faster? It’s helpful when you a searching for something but i don’t think it would help to make navigation faster.

          • IllusionMH

In case when I know start of domain name and Google suggests full URL.

          • Leonardo Gomes

You know that Google is suggesting you to search for that url, right?

          • IllusionMH

Yes I know that. Also I know that this won’t be fixed because it works as supposed. :D
I only mentioned that this would be great feature. ;)

          • Leonardo Gomes

Maybe you should suggest Google to enable “i’m feelling lucky” for its search suggestions.

    • ahoj1234

if it”s not your very fist time you visited it you are able to go directly there b y typing a few starting characters of the address and “enter” it. (it’s Opera suggestion according to history or whatever database).

I see your point but I can’t see any need to change that behaviour.

      • vadym

I don’t say to change behaviour for history/bookmarks. Just for searching new sites that were unvisited (or when it was removed from history due to exceeding limits).

P.S. Chrome can do it (as far as I remember). So at least it’s not impossible

        • ahoj1234

well, as I said. I see the point. But since it’s only for the very first time (if you do not delete history) it’s not a big show-stopper.
          a workaround I use:
write “pin” -> key navigation to “pinterest.com” -> hit “space” -> hit “backspace” -> hit enter.
this prevents google to search and allow Opera to open the page instantly.
But this is used by me only a few times a week. History covers almost all my suggestions. Well, nothing more to say. It’s not up to me if it change sometimes or not.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

I don’t have this problem. If I type “pinterest.com” and RETURN my Opera goes directly to the page. Maybe it has something to do with your settings in “Browser security…” – “Privacy”. I activated all points except the first one “Forecast Service…”.

    • Vux777

if I enter just “pinterest”, first suggestion and “on Enter” action is google search for that term

but if I enter full URL, first and selected action is to visit that URL

    • Leonardo Gomes

You are doing a search, so Opera should lead you to the search results page.
If it took you directly to the page, then it would be a bug. Unless, maybe, if Google would enable “i’m feeling lucky” for search suggestions.

  • Nekomajin43

Guys, I know it’s a 3rd-party stuff, but can you do something with this latest disqus update? When there are lots of comments to a post, I like to go through only the comments from the developers (generally the people I follow). It was next to the notifications but now it’s gone.

  • Vorpal

Hmm. The idea came to me while I reading some longreads. It’s about bookmarks and stash.
Open some blog article. Notice that article is too long to read right now. Add it as bookmark to some folder by category and at once mark it by clicking on checkbox “Read it later”. So the page is in bookmarks from this moments and in future you can open bookmark manager and filter to show only pages marked as “Read it later” sorted in folders or all in one page. When you finish to read an article you can uncheck “Read it later” or delete the page from bookmarks completely.

    • Herr Pietrus

I think that adding such sites to unsorted bookmarks is better and it seems that unsorted bookmarks is designed, among other things, for such purpose.

  • Guest

My imported bookmarks are at the 4th level:-

How can I move them to a more convenient 2nd level?

  • Stan Kay

I have imported bookmarks from Firefox and the attached image shows that they appear at an inconvenient 4th Level. How can I move them to a more convenient 2nd Level?

    • Nekomajin43

Open the bookmarks manager, and move the folder to the desired place.

    • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

They really should give us a folder TREE in the bookmark manager. You only can do what you want via multiple steps. It’s annoying, confusing and error-prone.

  • http://vinczej.blogspot.hu vinczej

My “ancient” wish is: Alert On Exit! (Like O12) It’s very annoying, when I have many windows cascaded, and I click accidentally the Opera window Close button. It closes immediatly, and I lose all my tabs without any notifying. :(

    • Nekomajin43

      +1

    • FoolOfATook

Try Session Buddy. It’s a really useful extension (Chrome). In fact, don’t think I can live without it! (Basically what it does is it keeps running tabs on every tab, pardon the pun. So if say you accidentally close the browser, you can just restore your last session with that extension. You can also save/rename/export sessions)

  • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

    Heyyy ???? were is my opera://flags/#hung-plugin-monitor ???????
I hate to get always popups from this browser I just finish disable it and now is gone how i disable this trash feature ????

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

If you are having trouble with plug-ins, you can contact the plug-in vendor for support. Try reinstalling it or removing it entirely if you do not use it. For everything else you can use “Settings: Websites: Plug-ins: Click to play”.

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

pff I want to disable only plugin-monitor that was the only way to fix my problems….
because it makes all my games with flash to show always this stupid pop-up

This was the only way to stop the crazy browser pop-ups. Now is gone from opera ?
And is not the vendor problem is your browser problem….

        • Marcin Mitek

You just unlocked achievement for responding to yourself twice. This is already fixed, it just didn’t make it to this build. It will be available in future dev update.

          • Lacedaemon

“You just unlocked achievement for responding to yourself twice. ”

            ROFL !!!

          • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

Sry I just got to exited, I searched all the INTERNET to fix this pop-up problem and when I found it and disable the plug-in monitor. Exactly after the update the flag it just got gone.
Thx for clearing this out and this flag worked great.
If you search the INTERNET about this problem a lot of Opera users are complaining about this pop-up.
It will be more better to make it not show like a pop-up.
And sry I like probably to much Opera right now :)
Then I will wait for the next update with this flag on.

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

How is this enable do not allow sites to pop-up but allow opera to pop-up in your face is this a new great feature no ? And is not a browser problem is the vendor problem ?

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

Well now i use Click to play I wish this will fix it but I still prefer to disable the default pop-up from opera pff…

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

Hmm with the Click to play on and it still see this annoying pop-up that shows up then not…
Now I need to wait with the next update with this plug-in Monitor flag that Marcin say it will be in the next updates.

      • Hookah1388 .

And what about opera://flags/#warn-about-insecure-content ???? That was removed for this version and it helped when I disabled it last time. That stuff is important — you know — to not be annoyed with messages on sites we visit over and over?

        • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen
      • Hookah1388 .

        Hello?

  • IllusionMH

It’s just me or there is some setting/flag to see url and not pynicode?
    O dev 25 and same for O stable 23

  • MrEasy

There seems to be an issue with intranet sites using SSL.
Starting with this update all my intranet sites using SSL are barely usable anymore.
There is no issue using internet sites with SSL or intranet sites without SSL.
Symptom is that page loads partially, then seems to not be able to retrieve more data, so images, CSS or other site content is missing. It also keeps asking for accepting untrusted certificates even if already accepted in the same browser session.

    • Mike

Same for me. The reason its not loading the CSS/JS etc is because its rejecting the certificate presumably because like me you have some sites with self signed certificates.

It should remember the choice to accept the certificate for the whole session but its barely remembering for 1 second currently :(

  • hspdion

The new Bookmarks functionality is looking good. Are there plans to implement an “Open All” function to bookmarks folders (similar to the option that exists when you right-click a speed dial group [or which is executed quite well with the tidy bookmarks extension]).

Two other additions to the bookmark interface I would welcome:

    1. A shortcut to speed dial which takes over the current window (and a complementary shortcut to Bookmarks on the Speed Dial interface).

    2. A collapsible tree visualization of one’s bookmarks folder structure under the “My Folders” section.

  • Pedro

One useful thing missing: ability to search for bookmarks straight from the address bar.

    • Jonathan Aanesen

This will probably come with the development of the new bookmarks page etc. that is in 25 :)

      • Pedro

Thanks for the reply. I have Opera developer 25 installed and this way of searching for bookmarks is still missing. Hope 26 brings some news…

  • Ghirahim

What the hell is wrong with Opera/Flash?!?! I never had any problems but in the last couple of weeks I get this message 50 times a day. My PC becomes completely unresponsive. It’s driving me crazy!

    Windows 8.1 OS

    • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

lol I just complain about this to fix go here to fix it: “you can use “Settings: Websites: Plug-ins: Click to play”

    • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

just wait for the next developer version that will have this option in the opera flags to disable it this: plug-in-monitor

      • Marcin Mitek

I didn’t say we will bring the flag back. We will fix the bug (actually it’s already fixed internally).

        • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

Well at least we will not see this pop-up any more ? I don’t know if this is a bug when opera pop-ups in the face a annoying menu that shows up and then not and then again and then again gone…
And why the flag has now gone and not stay in and fix it ? :( pff

    • blackcoder

I am wondering what the hell “Shockwave Flash” is? Is really Shockwave installed? Flash != Shockwave.

Looks like Shockwave Flash is a legacy/historic name:
      https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1236140

Are you sure that you need Shockwave or do you just need Flash for Youtube etc?

Maybe you should consider to remove that stuff completely and just install this:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

      • Ghirahim

But I did install that. I have Adobe Flash Player 14, nothing else.

        • FoolOfATook

Are you running Opera dev build? Because I’ve seen that as well, and I’m running opera dev. I believe it’s actually the “Chrome PDF Viewer”; the built in PDF reader they added a while back.

Try disabling the plugin(s) to troubleshoot/fix the issue.

          • Ghirahim

            Opera dev, yes.

      • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

The name “Shockwave Flash” is how the plug-in identifies itself to the browser. The browser does not know it by any other name (well, its even less understandable filename).

      • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

The dialog appears when a plug-in is misbehaving. Usually when it is freezing in the background and consumes a lot of resources.

Contact the plug-in vendor—Adobe in this case—for help in resolving issues with their plug-in.

        • FoolOfATook

I’ve also seen “Uknown” plugin is not responding. I assume that’s the PDF reader?

          • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

That would be a pug-in that does not identify itself properly. See what you have installed in opera://plugins

          • FoolOfATook

Flash and the built in PDF reader. Flash is disabled, so…. either it’s a bug, or it’s the PDF reader. Right?

  • raphah

can you make a bookmarks button?

  • A. R.

Stash was sacrified for bookmarks. Could of gone better.

Anyhow the outcome is is great. But do we have to wait a year for improvemnt?

    • pisarz1958

Still don’t understand why can’t we have both, I got used to Stash after using it for over the year now.

  • taneli

Might be a 3rd party issue here… but:
    http://cail.solja.net/media/disqusfail.jpg

This is all i keep seeing, impossible to quickly see new comments, need to scroll through sometimes several hundreds of posts to see where the new post is, it also doesn’t notify of some new posts, and just has a small “1 more comment”.

Why do you keep using this Disqus, it clearly is not working all that well.

In a working discussion thingie i could see new posts instantly, here it can take up to several minutes to find all the new comments when i need to scroll through every damn post over and over again.

Sorry, but ditch this thingie already.

    • FoolOfATook

Disqus… I like it, bugs aside. If only they could get the damn bugs sorted out. There are sometimes some design decisions that I don’t particularly agree with, but I can live with those by and large as they are generally fairly minor and the underlying product is still great.

    • Vux777

if you changed zoom lvl, disqus will calculate wrong position for new comments, on or off the screen, also that info bar…

  • JWGrasli

A bug I think; when I open the Opera menu and CLICK on “Bookmarks” (no not waiting until hovering opens the menu but a fast CLICK), there’s a 1sec delay before the menu opens which is really annoying! Other menu items doesn’t have that.. ;)

    • FoolOfATook

14 days ago I know, but just wanted to comment that that’s most likely as a result of the amount of bookmarks you have, and the way with which they implemented that bookmarks menu. Possibly also affected by system speed. For me here, I have barely any bookmarks, and as such it opens in ~30ms, even on hover.

  • JWGrasli

And one more thing; “Bookmarks” keeps getting added to the “Recently closed” list over and over if you open/close..

  • Wando Schneider

Guys, any way to sync Speed Dials on Opera 25.0.1597.0?

    • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

In 2018 things will be different, please be patient.

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

      No, not atm.
Sync is being reworked right now to be more awesome and secure than ever.
      Hang tight ;)

  • Didit A. Pamungkas

Linux, PAPPI flash still laging playing video on youtube, elsewhere not lagging.
when I disabled flash, youtube say error loading player, by default if flash not installed youtube will use html5 player right??
Oh, opera or youtube is had the problem..
    hmm..

    • L33t4opera

Hi, you can try this solution, and see if it helps.

      • Didit A. Pamungkas

        Oh right, thx..
        u save the day..

  • David Santos

I don’t know if it’s a known issue, so here goes:

I’m on Linux, and whenever I put a flash video player (or, I assume, any flash content, though I haven’t tested with anything that isn’t a video player) in full-screen, Opera shows the “Press Esc to exit full-screen mode” at the same time that Flash shows the same message.

    I’m using Opera developer 25.0.1597.0 on Ubuntu Utopic (14.10, development) x86_64 using pepperflashplugin-nonfree 1.5ubuntu2 and Flash 14.0.0.177.

  • David Santos

About PPAPI Flash on Linux (Ubuntu Utopic x86_64), I already had it from Google’s package google-chrome-beta (the file is installed as /opt/google/chrome-beta/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so) but Opera didn’t detect it. I couldn’t find a way to tell Opera to look there, nor did I know of any places where Opera did look so I could try and symlink it there, so I had to install pepperflashplugin-nonfree in order to have Flash in Opera.

    • L33t4opera

Hi David, you can run the “opera-developer” file, together with two command line switches, as follows:/usr/bin/opera-developer --ppapi-flash-path=/opt/google/chrome-beta/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=14.0.0.177After that, go to opera:plugins, and enable this plug-in ;-)

  • siamak

Hi Devs, Can u add option to open tabs Like opera presto? “dobble or middle click in free space on tab bar? “

    • escruting

Double click on a tab to close it would be wonderful too….

    • Garnold

      +1

It is annoying when the new Opera (15+) just minimizes/maximizes the window when double clicking on the empty space…

  • John Smith

    Still waiting for vertical tabs…

  • Hookah1388 .

THANKS FOR REMOVING THE #WARN-ABOUT-INSECURE-CONTENT FLAG, OPERA TEAM. THANKS A LOT. NO REASON FOR THAT. NOW I’M BACK TO THAT ANNOYING POP-UP I ASKED TO FIX LAST TIME, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO. BUT NOW NO OPTION IS ANYWHERE TO BE FOUND.

    • Hookah1388 .

      bump……..

      • Leonardo Gomes

It will not bump your comment. Anyway, you shouldn’t do this, even more in a interval of less than 24 hours.

        • Hookah1388 .

Well that doesn’t help me. Thanks anyways.

    • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

They remove that to ? Plug-in Monitor got removed to now is extremely annoying to get this pop-up to… pff

      1. Your caps lock seemed to be stuck; I fixed that for you. (Next time your comment will be deleted!)
      2. You are using a developer build! If you can’t deal with some breakages every now and then than please switch to stable version.
      3. Flags get removed when its feature is stable and tested enough. No matter if that suits you or not.

      • Hookah1388 .

        1. Next time don’t fix it. The hard pressure from my right pinky finger is satisfactory.
        2. I refuse to believe that feature has a breakage. It’s working fine and you know it. I’ll be the judge of insecure content.
        3. So where as 2 builds ago I never received a Blocked-Content issue on https, now I do and can’t do anything about it? Unblocking is unnecessary most of the time. It refreshed the entire page on major and most used sites. I was able to fix this last time. No reason for Opera to make me unblock and refresh pages every single time I visit Google, Facebook, etc. So yes, it matters if it suits me.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Flags are (just) experiments and will be removed sooner or later. Depending on the results of the experiment, some may be integrated to Opera and some others may just be removed and return back to drawing board.

  • Olli

When using Pepper flash on OS X the menu bar ist not hidden when going into fullscreen-mode on youtube (and probably everywhere else). So at this point it is useless. You first have to go into the OS X fullscreen.mode for Opera and then you can open the video in fullscreen and enjoy a menu bar-free fullscreen. That are too many steps. Could you fix this or is this a bug in PPAPI?

  • pisarz1958

I’d actually love to have both Stash and Bookmarks.

    • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

yes me to but like we see this probably will never happen if you enable one it disable the other if you enable the others it disable the one… pff

  • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

I try to get back to the old version of dev and i could not find it pff and this is to crazy to force users to use the versions they do not allow or don’t want to use them or at least to have a option to disable the updates… And any way I think it give me error if i try to downgrade the version pff….
Great work keep it UP and probably a lot of user will love you a lot for forcing them to use the version they do not want.. great work

    • Leonardo Gomes

Just delete the folder with the current build. If necessary edit installation_status.xml so it will póint to the correct folder.

If you are on Windows, you can avoid autoupdate: https://forums.opera.com/discussion/comment/15176311#Comment_15176311

Thx i got it but this seams so twisted right now :)

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

Hmm i try to add this OPERAAUTOUPDATEDISABLED
        And it still updates pff…

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

What is so bad is that now the Opera team is not re-commanding any fix and I always need now to find for my self a fix pff this is bad on a lot of forums they will not help there to…
I could be wrong but this is what i have seen on most of the forums…
Any way thx again i fix it… for myself…

  • Nicolás

The sync function on this version is not working for me, when i try to log in to my account, the page stays white and it goes to this page https://auth-test.opera.com/account/access-token

    • http://classicalmusicmayhem.freeforums.org Rodders

This is known already, I get that too. But thinking more broadly about the complaints in this thread, Really people should not be considering Developer for general use or criticising it as if you are expecting everything to be fully functional. I use stable for day to day browsing and it actually does everything I need for a browser, the new things I can wait for until they actually work and make it to stable. A lot of work is still required on the bookmark manager/SD and sync.

      • FoolOfATook

I know this is late, but shouldn’t that have been quite obvious from the get-go for any of these people here? I certainly hope no one was under the impression that this was a stable build. It should be *fairly* obvious…. then again, I feel that Opera have not made it obvious enough. It alludes to getting a sneak peak of what might come down the pipe and make it into Stable, but nothing about it being potentially (likely?) unstable and buggy. And that is on them.

  • nowingu

Why can one not move selected bookmarks together?

    • FoolOfATook

This is a bit late, but you can. Either with CTRL-X (Cut), or Dragging and Dropping your selected bookmarks.

  • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

Next time at least lest us know what do you have removed like this last flags and so if we don’t like it to use we will not use it ?
Why do you removed this flags and not post about this ? Why your team is hiding the fixes and not show or help us ?
I searched all the INTERNET just for this or for a small fix to find.
And when you make a new version could you inform us first of the changes (change-log) then let us to update or not ???
I think chrome force you to make bad work and do you like to see the INTERNET full off complains I for one hate it. Do you love it and not at least help them ???

What could be next remove bookmarks and not tell to any one this will be the best surprise for all probably….
I’m filling extremely unsecured abut this ways of your adding or removing things and not let us know first…

    • Leonardo Gomes

Everything can happen on developer stream and anything can happen without any warnings.

Flags are experiments and sooner or later a flag will disappear from the list because you don’t conduct a experiment forever. Some of them will be proven good and may be integrated and some other will be proven not so good and will be returned to the research stage.

      • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

I see but some flags are mostly enable/disable some feature and I did not know how they are just an experiment by just enable or disable some features…. I mean this flag was not hurting any one to stay in opera flags I talk mostly about the plug-in monitor flag :(

        • Leonardo Gomes

The feature itself is the experiment.

          • http://colector.ucoz.com/ Teodor Cristian Trusca

They why they made plug-in monitor enable/disable then they took it out ? I for one do not see any experiment in enable or disable a feature of opera or why thy add then take it away…. For me was working all ok not like any experiments because a enable disable feature there is no experiment in enable disable a function of opera.
Well probably it is a experiment to mess around with the ones they like to test it…. Well this is to bad…

          • Leonardo Gomes

Let’s say they start working on feature A. So they add a flag for “Feature A” to allow them (and also the users that want to test it) to enable or disable the feature.
According to the progress on the development, when they think the feature has a mimimum stage for that, developers can enable the feature by default so it can be tested by a larger number of people.

Depending on the feedback, on tne reports, if no problems were found, then the feature “moves” to Next/Beta also enabled by default. If there are problems, the feature remains disabled by default on Beta and the test remains in developer.
After the period of test on Next/Beta, the feature can be “moved” to Stable, where it can be tested by an even larger number of users.
When developers thinbk it reached a stage mature enough, the feature may be incorporated and the flag will no longer be necessary.

          • FoolOfATook

Do you read others’ answers to you? The feature IS the experiment. Process that. Please. Just because it worked fine for you doesn’t mean it worked fine everywhere, for everyone, nor always at all times. Please take that into consideration.

  • smartunite

What about finally enabling some basic stuff, like UI customizations?

After a year of work on the “customizable UI frame for chromium written from scratch for extra customization” it should be possible to at least be able to rearrange the extension icons, home button, etc…

  • Ksnoo

Now that bookmarks open in same tab it would be useful to KEEP the bar from where you can choose bookmarks, start page and discover. So you could go back to discover or start page. That seems more consistent to me. Additionally to that it makes sense to add the history page to the bar too.

Somehow it should be made visually more pleasing: i thing smaller buttons and such things (f.e. i dislike the red square)

    • http://classicalmusicmayhem.freeforums.org Rodders

Agreed. I made this same point in the previous build thread – the ‘side bar’ should be maintained in the bookmarks page. But I did get the impression that the bar will be a home for other links too in the future.

    • kokolo5

I think this is coming for sure. And i hope really that we can use the side during web sessions.

  • dflyra

Please guys, solve the synchronization problem. Also bring back the ‘open all’ command in the great new speed-dial, or else I’m downgrading from developer to Developer!

    • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

Regarding the “open all” it’s reported as DNA-25154 (Discover links leaking onto startpage) and is already fixed internally.

  • taneli

Have had to restart Opera 5 times now in the last 30 minutes, because it just gets stuck behind other windows and won’t come front, then i always forget what i was about to do after the restart -,-
Now that it’s this frequent, been trying to find a way to reproduce it but alas, so very random.

    • taneli

A-ha! Found atleast one way to reproduce it (works for me every time):

      1) Open Opera (Now on current Dev build)
      2) Open a video (Using BSPlayer atm. not sure if that is relevant which player it is, the videoInfo says x264 AVC (Advanced Video Codec)
      3) Open a Youtube video, let it sit there for a while
      4) Close the Youtube video tab
      5) Switch to BSPlayer (or any other window)
      6) Opera won’t come back infront of the other windows anymore.

So i’m guessing something with loading/unloading video codecs or something.

      • Mateusz Madej

Could You please try to reproduce this with any other software? This BSPlayer might be causing the issue. We’re not able to reproduce this

        • taneli

Just found another way to reproduce it without BSPlayer:
          1) Open a youtube video page.
          2) Pause the video or wait for it to finish & stop (doesn’t seem to work on videos that are playing)
          3) Switch to another window (so that Opera is still visible but not focused
          4) Straight on click on the Youtube tab’s X (Close) without first activating Opera window
          5) Switch to another program/window and Opera won’t come infront anymore after this

          Win8.1 x64
          Flash 14 NPAPI

This method seems to work every time for me too.

What’s consistant though, that it has always happened AFTER closing a tab which has Flash content, not completely sure what else affects it.

          • Mateusz Madej

I tried on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 both x64 with NPAPI. Can’t reproduce this

          • taneli

Okay, dunno why i didn’t figure to try this before… but…
I have FFDShow, aaand i just added Opera.exe to the excluded list, can’t produce this behaviour anymore when Opera.exe is excluded in FFDShow, but as soon as i remove it from the exclusion list -> boom, bug is again reproducable.

          • Mateusz Madej

Thanks. We will try to investigate it further. I think you gave us enough information! :)

          • SQL

I have a 100% reproducable way to experience this bug. Please answer this comment if you still need it to reproduce this issue (I would need to get some license keys for you guys so you can test) But i can confirm that i can freeze the browser using this website with three different Windows’.

        • taneli

And yes, the first method did the same with Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic too.

  • knoelli

I just encountered a bug regarding extension updates with additional privileges: One of the extensions I have installed (IP Domain Flag) was updated by the author and now requires additional privileges compared to the previous version. Opera notified me about the update and I was taken to the extension settings page where an “Update” button is available. Once I click it, an info bubble with the new permissions is shown – so far so good. However clicking the “Update” button in this info bubble does nothing – neither is the info bubble closed nor is the extension updated.

    • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

      Hello,

When you press Update button to confirm permission change update mechanism is triggered again. This means updated version is downloaded again from server and this time package is updated silently. On slow network download may be slow so it could appear that nothing happens. Could you check if you got updated version now? We will try to update this dialog so users won’t get impression that nothing happens.

      Thanks for this report.

      • Oliver

Thank you for your response. Yes, in the meantime I got the update of the extension and it installed silently in the background.

Don’t know why it took so long yesterday as I’m on a cable internet connection (100mBit), but maybe it was some routing problem or whatever. Like you said, some feedback to the user upon clicking “Update” would be nice ;)

  • ahoj1234

well, it’s getting annoying so am I the only one who is experiencing this bug:
    – some tab can’t be closed (so do whole Opera after that!!)

it happens really often (a few times a day). The page just freeze or what. Often only blank page is shown.
Mostly it’s facebook or other huge sites.
No matter how hard you try to close it (middle click, “X” button, right click and “close tab”…)
It’s NOT reproducible AFAIK and the tab have to be inactive first.
The “frozen” tab have to be reloaded (not always possible but sometimes it works) or whole Opera has to be killed (in windows process manager)

standalone installation, W8.1 x64 (started a long time ago)

    • Cjcr

This happened to me too with v24 and v25 too.

    • dflyra

Confirmed exactly as described! Sometimes Opera gets so unresponsive that has to be shut down from task manager. Also, the shockwave plug-in 50% of the times gets unresponsive and although stopped the situation is not improving. I don’t know if those two situations are related but it seems that most of the times happen at the same time.

  • Elzo Lubbers

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but the audio on http://www.fipradio.fr/player doesn’t seem to work. (Doesn’t work for me in O23 either)

You want to allow singe opera precess eat more than 3.6GB of your RAM?
What a rush for x64? I think that they will implement x64 in future, so keep calm and read changelogs xD

        * 25% improvement in performance in graphics and multimedia content (15% improvement in VP9 decoding performance)
        * twice as stable as 32-bit
        * more secure

yeah, I would like to have that

  • reesmichael1

I haven’t been following the comments on this post as carefully as I normally do, so someone may have reported this already. If that is the case, I apologize.

Ever since installing this build, I’ve been unable to open the browser on the Linux third of my machine. (I haven’t had any problems on either Mac or Windows. I’m using Arch Linux, but I don’t think that’s relevant.) If I tried to launch Opera through the command line, it would simply hang and didn’t print any output.

Today, I decided to dig around and see if I couldn’t figure out what the problem was. Eventually, I realized that the root cause was that Opera was still trying to disable the “hung plugin monitor” flag (I had disabled it on, if I recall correctly, all platforms). Since that flag was removed in this build, it seems that there is a bug somewhere that caused Opera to not open because it was looking for a flag that didn’t exist.

I believe this was the problem because if I remove the line “hung-plugin-monitor@2″ from “enabled_labs_experiments” in ~/.config/opera-developer/Local State, Opera starts fine. If I put that line back in (and it was still in the file after the upgrade), Opera does not appear when I start it.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this, and is this a known bug?

    • L33t4opera

Hi Michael, yes, but in my case, it was the “enable-harfbuzz-rendertext”, which was the culprit, and caused the “Segmentation fault”, (you can see this, when you run: dmesg | grep segfault), and like in your case, if I tried to launch the Opera from the command line, then it simply hang, and didn’t print any output in console ;-)

      • reesmichael1

Hmmm. That’s interesting–I didn’t think to check dmesg. As usual, you’re one step ahead of me ;-) So it seems like this is definitely a bug. Has it been reported, or should I go ahead and file a report?

        • L33t4opera

Hi Michael, it seems that both flags have been removed, so I think, that in this case, there’s no reason to file a report about that.

  • Marián Varaga

Hi, I am still waiting for stable synchronize option. When can I expect it?

  • FoolOfATook

I actually find that I prefer old speeddial/startpage (the current one). Anyone in the same boat?

    • Dave-H

      Yes, I do too.
I much prefer having a thumbnail of the site than a flat graphic representation of it.
I guess the new version may look better on things like tablets, but certainly not on a decent sized screen desktop.
      :-)

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      Yes, here!

  • taneli

The new Dev. only for windows.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

CAREFUL with the just published new win version 1605: If you cycle through your open tabs, the cursor is on each new page always in the address field. So if you usually navigate with the keyboard (“1″ and “2”) the content of the address box will be overwritten! You first have to press ESC and then “1” or “2”.

    • taneli

Also when just activating another tab with the mouse, the focus gets into the address field.

And quite a few other silly bugs, ie. some elements aren’t displaying correctly or at all (for example the “Sort by” dropbox on Disqus).

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Ok, thank you for confirming. I’m going back to the 1597.

        • Lacedaemon

          coward… :-P

      • Lacedaemon

Clearing the cache always helps ;-)

Anyway, the new Startpage is enabled by default in this build, some icons that didn’t load are fixed (and some have new colors), and moving SD items work.

        • taneli

Nope, not always, like not this time :p

          • Lacedaemon

Try everything in clearing browsing data! :) Also, nice find.

        • Ralf Brinkmann

No, clearing the cache didn’t help. Still the same behaviour (I mean the focus in the address bar).

          • Lacedaemon

yeah clearing the cache wouldn’t be enough for that :). I was referring to the simple thing of “Sort by” not showing.

    • Cjcr

Still no changelog and not linux & mac builds … WTF? I think something happens ..

      • taneli

Think they did a similar mini-update on Next stream not that long ago, mostly just small bugfixes and stuff not really worth mentioning about and they didn’t post about it on the Next stream either.

        • Lacedaemon

Most probably it is a placebo effect, but I find the browser more responsive somehow… everything feels strangely more fluid… a good chromium update maybe?

      • Dave-H

I’m not even being offered it on Windows, the check says my version 25.0.1597.0 is up to date.
        Very strange!
        :-)

        • Cjcr

They did a similar movement with Opera Next /beta.

        • Leonardo Gomes

There’s no autoupdate version yet, it seems.
