Opera One now available for Windows on Arm

Opera goes native on Windows for Arm. Opera is now available in Arm-powered Windows devices.

Recently, we announced that Opera Developer has gone native for Windows on Arm. We achieved this by working with the support from Microsoft’s App Assure team and Qualcomm Technologies. Today we’ve got great news for you! After seeing a 4x increase in performance*, our flagship browser – Opera One – is going native for Windows on Arm.

At Opera we’re excited about the performance boost Arm-based processors, like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, are bringing to Windows PCs. We’re committed to delivering the best browsing experience for all Opera users, regardless of device. By making Opera One native for Windows on Arm, we bring you a faster and better optimized browsing experience.

What can Opera on Arm do for you?

With this new optimized version of the browser for Arm-based Windows devices, you will be able to browse faster and longer! When put together with Opera’s battery saver mode, it will significantly boost your browsing time in a single charge.

How come? You might ask. Well, the answer lies in the power-efficient design of the Arm-based processors, which are designed to deliver better performance at lower energy costs. This means that your PC will perform tasks more efficiently, at cooler temperatures, and for a longer period of time. This is possible thanks to the Arm architecture and its Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC), which executes faster and smaller instructions than traditional x86 processors with Complex Instruction Sets (CISC).

Think about it this way:

  • On one hand, x86 architecture is like a delivery service that uses a fleet of big, old and powerful trucks. These trucks can carry a lot of packages at once thanks to their big and powerful engines. However, they are very power-hungry and tend to overheat a lot.
  • On the other hand, Arm architecture is like a delivery service composed of new, small, agile and fast vans. These vans can’t carry as much per trip, but they’re much more fuel-efficient and don’t have overheating issues.

Arm architecture has been present in mobile devices’ chips for a long time, and now it’s coming to Windows PCs, so we’re excited to be at the forefront of this exciting change.
