Hey all, we’re releasing Opera for Android version 101, and it brings a feature for when you’re watching videos on your phone: you can now pop any video out of the page into a floating window and keep watching while you do something else on your phone.

Pop out videos and keep them playing while you do other things

Until now, if a message came in while you were in the middle of watching something on your Opera, or you needed to jump into another app for a minute, you had to choose: keep watching, or do the other thing.  

With picture-in-picture in Opera for Android 101, you don’t have to choose anymore. While a video is playing in the browser, open the menu and tap Picture-in-Picture. You’ll land on your home screen with the video now playing in a small floating window on top of everything: reply to that message, open another app, check something else entirely, and the video keeps going. Drag the window to whichever corner is out of your way, resize it bigger or smaller, or tap it to bring the video back to full view in Opera. Playback controls stay right on the floating window, so you can pause, resume, or close it without switching back into the browser at all. 

Try it yourself: open this video in Opera for Android, tap the menu, and select Picture-in-Picture. Then switch to another tab or head to your home screen, the video keeps playing right where you left it.

Live match highlights, right next to the score

We’ve also got something more for football fans. Opera’s Live Scores now shows highlight clips directly next to the result, for any match, in any league, wherever you are, and you can pop those out into the same floating window, so you can watch the goal without leaving whatever else you’re doing on your phone.
