Introducing CELO Rewards in Opera for Android, Opera Mini and Opera News
At Opera, we’ve always believed that your time online should be rewarding. Today, we’re taking that one step further.
We’re excited to introduce a new feature in our loyalty program: the ability to earn CELO, a digital token with real-world value, simply by using Opera for Android, Opera Mini and Opera News.
Get started automatically
If you’re in a supported country and update to (or install) the latest version of Opera for Android, Opera Mini or Opera News, we’ll create a built-in non custodial wallet created for you for the purpose of the program.
No complicated setup required — just update or install the application and begin.
Keep earning points as usual
Nothing changes about how you earn points today.
Users in all countries can continue earning points by completing missions, including:
One-off missions
- Making Opera your default browser
- Logging into your Google account
- Setting a wallpaper
- Activating MiniPay
Daily missions
- Browsing and generating page views
- Reading articles in Opera News
- Maintaining activity streaks
These points remain the foundation of the rewards experience.
Start earning CELO
Here’s where it gets exciting.
If you’re in a selected country and meet the conditions outlined below, your weekly activity can now earn you CELO rewards.
- Your total points earned from Monday to Sunday determine how much CELO you receive
- The more active you are, the more you can earn
How to qualify for CELO rewards
To earn CELO, users must meet all of the following conditions for the entire week:
- Have Opera for Android/Opera Mini installed continuously (no uninstalling/reinstalling)
- Stay logged into your Google account (no logging in or out during the week)
- Keep Opera for Android or Opera Mini set as your default browser
- Use Opera Mini, Opera for Android or Opera News every day
Additional requirement for Opera for Android users:
- Generate at least 5 pageviews per day
Consistency is key – CELO rewards are designed to recognise sustained engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I cash out my CELO?
An easy way to cash-out is coming soon. In an upcoming release, you’ll be able to convert your CELO into a stablecoin using MiniPay, making it easier to use your rewards in the real world. In the meantime, you can access your security key in Settings of the relevant Opera product (Opera Mini, Opera for Android or Opera News).
What determines how many CELO I earn?
For users who have qualified to earn CELO in a given week, the amount of CELO they earn is based on the amount of points they earn in that week. For every point a user earns, they will gain x CELO.
What happens if I opt out of rewards?
You can opt out of Rewards at any time in Settings. If you do, you will no longer earn points or CELO and will only start doing so again if you opt back in.
Should you opt out of rewards, your points and CELO balance will remain unaffected should you choose to opt back in (assuming you have not uninstalled the browser/changed your device in the meantime).
What is a non-custodial wallet?
A non-custodial wallet is a crypto wallet where you have full control of your private keys and funds, without relying on any third party.
This means you fully own your assets – only you have access to your assets, and only you can approve transactions and access your funds. In simple terms, it puts you in complete control, like your own bank.
