Good news, South Africa! We’re expanding free browsing with Opera Mini to Vodacom users. Starting today, you can enjoy up to 3GB every month to catch up on the news, check football scores and browse your favourite sites.

Vodacom adds to the list of mobile networks offering free browsing with Opera Mini in South Africa. As before, MTN users can also continue enjoying free data to browse more without using up their own data.

How to get started

1. Download or update Opera Mini on your phone (make sure you have the latest version).
2. Use the Vodacom mobile network.
3. Make sure mobile data on your phone is on – this is very important because without it, free data won’t work.
4. Open Opera Mini and start browsing – your free data will kick in automatically when you use the app!
5. Once your free data has been used up, you will automatically switch to your own data plan. If you don’t have any airtime or data in your SIM card, you will go offline.

Make your data go further

Opera Mini’s data-saving technology can save up to 90% of your browsing data. By compressing web pages, it reduces the amount of data needed to load them—helping you stretch your bundle further. A built-in ad blocker also keeps unwanted ads out of the way.

Keep up with football

With Opera Mini, football is always in your pocket. Catch live scores, match stats and football news right inside your browser. Follow your favourite teams and check what’s happening without installing another app. Live Scores works with free data and because it is built directly into Opera Mini, it remains lightweight even when your connection is slow.

Get a little help from AI

Have a question or want to explore a topic? Opera Mini’s free built-in AI assistant lets you ask questions and search the web from within the browser. AI chat also works with free data, giving you another way to make the most of the offer.

Keep the updates you love

Seen a funny status video or a photo you want to keep? Opera Mini’s new Status Saver lets you view, save and share status updates without downloading a separate app. Find it in the O Menu or your Downloads Manager, and keep those moments around beyond 24 hours.

Ready to browse?

Already using Opera Mini? Update your app to get the latest features.

New to the browser? Download Opera Mini and enjoy up to 3GB of free browsing on Vodacom in South Africa.

Free data covers regular browsing within Opera Mini, up to 100MB everyday. Video streaming, large downloads and other heavy data-use activities are excluded.
