    OK, let’s check it 🙂

  • HDPI Issue: Font size on Speed Dial is YUUUGGGEE!!! (Trump Voice) everywhere.

    I’m on Windows 10 1703, Microsoft Surface Book, Resolution: 3000 x 2000. System UI Scaling 200%.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Oh yes, indeed, the font size on the speed dial page and the download page (CTRL-J) is bigger than before. Not too big on my 32″ screen, but big.
      W10x64 v15063, standard scaling 150%
      Operax64

    • RafaellaG

      I don’t see any differences. All’s normal.
      Win10x64 v1703 (build 15063.296). Operax64

      But my scaling is 100%.

    • Leonardo Gomes

They indeed look bigger in some internal pages. But I’m not sure if I dislike it.

      • Ariane Lu

Yeah, bigger is fine for a developer build, but blurry text really make me said… And the good news for me is new version will not completely blurry after drag to another monitor with different scale

  • PakSae

If turn off VPN while it connecting, Opera still crash.

    https://forums.opera.com/discussion/1883128/vpn-toggle-issue#Item_5

    • Kornelia

Thanks for that report. It’s reproducible on one one machine here also. I reported a bug report in our database.

  • Ariane Lu

I know it will have some issue, but really… unuseable, Icon on UI was blurry, text on website was fuzzy, and fonts in browser page was super huge

    • Could you give us information about your display resolution and system UI scaling?

      • Ariane Lu

        Device 1: 2560×1920, 125% scale
        Device 2: 2560×1920, 125% scale(As default) with built-in screen 1366×768 100% scale

UI element size switched after drag to another screen, good work

  • Eugene B.

Looks like Clear Type doesn’t work on this build. Plus some JS problems.

  • PakSae

    What does it mean?

“Hold on, this is waiting to be approved by Desktop Team Blog”

    • Comments are handled through Disqus. Just guessing but perhaps you posted too many messages at once and they got flagged as some spam?

    • I removed some of your previous comment. Leaving only first and this one.

  • pauloaguia

A bunch of favicons are now displaying with a grey background on their tabs. Before the upgrade none of these icons showed as a square like now (Win7 64bits)

  • NoName

    Way faster video seeking now!

  • Maryla R

    1) The option to use system colors in the title/tab bar is still broken(win10).
    2) The sidebar is still duplicated.
    3) Bookmarks bar folder icons are ugly why aren’t you using those from menu O>Bookmarks.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      1) It’s a bug or the setting is outdated? We need to wait to know.
      2) I guess it will be listed in the post when implemented. I also guess that it may not happen that soon.

      • Maryla R

        1) Hopefully it will be fixed/reimplemented because personally can’t stand the current look…

  • Devocalypse

PGO disappeared from version string on windows x64 and you haven’t mentioned there’s no PGO build this time. Is it just the string or is it gone for good?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Most probably they couldn’t make a PGO build this time.

    • It’s temporary issue. We had some problems with creating x64 PGO builds. Should be back next time.

  • pauloaguia

Every time I try to pop out some videos, the pop out icon hides from me: https://aeon.co/videos/watch-as-the-whale-becomes-itself-slowly-slowly-from-land-to-sea-through-deep-time
This bug comes from before this build but I can’t say exactly when I first noticed it… Win 7 64 bit

    • RafaellaG

I think that’s because there is an overlay active when you move the cursor (play, stop, progressbar, etc. below and “somthing other” on top). So when it is displayed it hides/deactivates the pop out icon.
Should’nt be an Opera problem, but aeon.co’s problem.

      • As @disqus_RafaellaG:disqus said our video detach button is done in JavaScript and shown as overlay, so whenever website shows on top of it it might be blocked. We try to have it always working on most popular websites. Nevertheless I will ask developers if we can get it working for cases like aeon.com

  • Regnas

Waiting for the hardware acceleration fix…. 🙂

  • C.C.

i don’t know if i’m the only one but after the update:
    1. there’s an unclickable space between top of the tabs and the edge of the screen: http://i.imgur.com/sL4MJ9r.png (minimalize, exit etc. icons seems unaffected)
    2. favicons have a grey background (but this one been mentioned already)

    Windows 7 x64

    • Regnas

I don’t have the unclickable problem (Win 10 here).

By the way, what is this icon? http://i.imgur.com/xraWj19.png

      • C.C.

Tabs, it displays currently opened tabs in synchronized devices

        • Regnas

Ok, I never used it… Thx..

  • Too bad for this update because the “Opera Turbo” button has disappeared.
Enabling Opera Turbo from the settings is a waste of time.. ^^

I prefer older versions with that ->

      Thanks Guys, reported!

  • Marissa Tdai

    In the “O menu”
    Opera turbo is missing.
It was Easy to switch it on/off from thhere
Plus enabling VPN disables it but but disabling VPN does not re-enable it,
have to got into settings and on/off everytime.

    • Yes you’re right !
I’m just disappointed with that…nothing more

I hope this will be corrected / fixes

    • Regnas

      Yep

    • There is no plan to bring Turbo back to OMenu. We could look into reenabling it after turning off VPN though.

      • Marissa Tdai

So how can users enable/disable it quickly?

      • Ari

What?? you removed it from the menu? It’s used as a temporary switch so it would be really inconvenient if you have to dig into settings to quickly enable/disable it

        • Marissa Tdai

Exactly and it’s not that intrusive that it had to be removed

        • Why you need to switch it on/off constantly?

          • Ari

In case you are on the go and doing hotspot with your phone, then you get home, disable turbo, then 3 hours later you leave home again. I would take a bet that turbo is being more interacted than zoom tool.

          • Nekomajin43

Why do you need to switch the VPN on/off constantly?

          • Leonardo Gomes

There are people, like me, that only needs to turn VPN on to access blocked content eventually.

          • Nekomajin43

My question was meant to be ironic. There are people who only need to turn on Turbo for a short time. For example when travelling on the train with public wifi. Turbo and VPN should really be merged., since Turbo is just an additional feature for a browser VPN.

          • Marissa Tdai

yup but VPN-Turbo should be separate as they have different purposes and uses and overloading servers is not great and if both are combined exactly that will happen.

          • Nekomajin43

            Which servers?

          • Leonardo Gomes

VPN ones? Or maybe Turbo ones? Or mayube both?

      • pauloaguia

Opera Turbo (like Opera VPN) does not work behind a proxy. So, when my laptop is at work I need to have it off; when I’m on, I usually turn it on. And I’m sure lots of people have a similar problem.
There really needs to be an easy access way to toggle its state. Or make it work behind proxies 😉

        • Marissa Tdai

Yes easy access is surely needed, O menu implementation was easy and best or add it to urlbar like vpn , the on/off switch

        • We seem to be missing some use case for it that’s why we moved it to opera:settings. Why you you Opera Turbo so often?

          • pauloaguia

            I don’t understand your question…
I believe I’ve explained my use case already. What would you like for me to clarify?

          • Leonardo Gomes

I guess the question is ‘Why do you need to use Turbo?’.

          • pauloaguia

To save on bandwidth. Isn’t that what it was created for?

          • Leonardo Gomes

I guess the main point of Turbo is to help people with a very slow connection. I don’t think it saves that much bandwidth.

Also, not everyone on a desktop rely on a limited connection.

          • pauloaguia

If you don’t reduce the bandwidth used how would you help people with slow connections? 🙂

Just because not everyone on a desktop relies on limited connections, doesn’t mean that nobody does. As a matter of fact, I’d say more and more people these days have laptops that are connected to the internet through some sort of wireless mobile device. And, if it’s true that in the cities these solutions are more and more broadband, as you move towards the country side there are still lots of reduced bandwidth areas still in use…

Here’s another use case scenario: when at home, for those that have a fast connection, people will have no use for Turbo and prefer it turned off… but when on the move, they prefer to turn it on as a way to make better use of the poor connection and also to save on their data plan and make it last longer on cheaper.

          • Marissa Tdai

+1 totally agree use it with mobile on crappy 2g/3g network as i travel daily.

when in a good coverage area turn it off to not misuses or over load it.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Not exactly, the main point of Turbo is to help people with a very slow connection.

Also, people on a desktop do not always rely on a limited connection.

          • Nekomajin43

Could you just add a checkbox to the VPN popup to turn on/off data compression? I think the two features should work together.

          • Marissa Tdai

Most of the times am on crappy network and turbo helps there a lot also speeds up the loading performance and uses less bandwidth ,
Also websites will see a different IP address when Opera Turbo is active.
While that actually improves privacy for users.
and like another user said Opera Turbo helps in various cases so it’s really important that we can on/off it when needed quickly(without unnecessary load on opera servers when not needed ie when on good connection etc)

      • Mustapha Tighremt

whaaat? are you serious? Why did you have to remove it in the first place? It’s like one of the only reasons (with the extensions menu and bookmarks) why I’m using the Omenu! I was using operamini on mobile since years and was using the desktop version for the turbo mode alongside firefox then I swiched completly to opera when the new refreshing updates and inovations came up it’s really a huge mistake to begin with these retrograde changes after 2 years of great job…

        • Could you tell us why actually you need to use Opera Turbo and constantly switch it off/on?

          • Mustapha Tighremt

Hi and thanks for your fast repely, my job requires me to be often on the move so when I’m outside I exclusively rely on my phone’s data connection to communicate info and data to my workplace so I need turbo to limit and spare my phone’s data plan and when I go back to my workplace I swich it off cause there is a proxy and back again on the field I swich on and when I’m home I swich it off, to make it short this a preview of my daily routine.
And I know many people in my case in fact a lot of them swiched to opera only for the turbo espatially for those who are living in the countryside. In fact like I said earlier it’s one of the only things that makes me open the Omenu otherwise I prefer to use keybord shortcuts…

The background of some favicons of tab bar are grey where should be transparent.
    Dark theme.

    • Ghirahim

      Confirmed.

  • Arturo Martínez

    I know this is not the right place to ask this, but;
Where does Opera save the bookmarks? I lost them for some reason and and the file Bookmarks.bak only restored my Speed Dials

    • Ariane Lu

You can open it with notepad to check they lost or not display in browser, just not edit or save

    • Leonardo Gomes

Bookmarks are saved in a file called ‘Bookmarks’.

      • Arturo Martínez

I tried what Ariane Lu says, but it only have contains the Speed Dials. I guess I lost them

  • bonifacio

Thanks! Tell me, why doesn’t play video in twitter?
OS OpenSUSE KDE Tumbl x64, but Firefox plays it properly.

    • Kornelia

      It’s a bug.

    • L33t4opera

Hi, you can install the chromium-ffmpeg-extra package from here, and see if this helps in your case, and if so, you can also add Packman’s repo for further updates.

      • bonifacio

i have tried it before question.

        • L33t4opera

Go to Opera’s installation root/resources (check the path in Opera’s menu > About Opera > Paths > Install, the default path should be as follows: /usr/lib64/opera-developer, open the ffmpeg_preload_config.json file in your text editor, and add the path to the lib /usr/lib64/chromium-ffmpeg-extra/libffmpeg.so as shown below:[
          "/usr/lib64/chromium-ffmpeg-extra/libffmpeg.so",
          "lib_extra/libffmpeg.so",
          "/usr/lib/chromium-browser/libffmpeg.so",
          "/usr/lib/chromium-browser/libs/libffmpeg.so"
          ]
Alternatively, navigate to Opera’s root folder, create a new subfolder lib_extra, and make a link to the lib: sudo ln -s /usr/lib64/chromium-ffmpeg-extra/libffmpeg.so.

          • bonifacio

I created this file, because i don’t find it. It didn’t help me. Thanks for you help.

          • bonifacio

I created the file because I did not find it. It did not help. Thanks.

          • L33t4opera

Hi, if you mean the ffmpeg_preload_config.json, then it should be located by default in /usr/lib64/opera-developer/resources, are you sure it’s not there? You need to add the path exactly in this location.

          • bonifacio

should i add strings to PepperFlashPaths, or add it below as new section […]?

            “PepperFlashPaths” : [
            “/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib64/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib/chromium-browser/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib/chromium/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib64/chromium-browser/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/usr/lib64/chromium/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/opt/google/chrome-beta/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/opt/google/chrome-unstable/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”,
            “/opt/google/chrome/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so”

          • L33t4opera

Nope, you need to add only "/usr/lib64/chromium-ffmpeg-extra/libffmpeg.so", in the ffmpeg_preload_config.json file, as it’s shown above, not in the pepper_flash_config.json file.

Resizing video pop out still has issue.
Resizing icon is not on border, rather inside.

  • Der Herr Nick

“We have changed HiDPI implementation, and some issues are expected [Windows]”
Indeed, this looks really fucked up. Only internal pages fonts are overly big, the other parts of the UI is very small – virtually unusable on touch screen.

MS Surface, Win10/64, Opera alt-high-DPI zoom level 170%

    • deus-ex

I can confirm. On first startup of this new release a web page reloaded from the previous session was completely overscaled. Font scaling on internal pages is way to big, downscaling does not help to fix the representation of text being cut off.

Win10/64 Creators Update, 4K Display at 3840×2160, Windows scaling 225%, Opera page zoom 125%

    • Der Herr Nick

      Here’s an example:

    • Der Herr Nick

      This here is also bad.

    • Der Herr Nick

Or have a look at these lovely bookmarks:
      http://i.imgur.com/l8tx0NQ.png

    • Der Herr Nick

      Plus:
If you change the zoom level on the one internal page it is also changed on the other one. Unfortunately, when speed dial look okayish, the bookmarks page appears way too big and vice versa.

      • Leonardo Gomes

Well, this have been a long time request: allow different zoom levels for internal pages.

        • iamtelephone

I submitted a bug report when this first happened… It’s long long overdue.

@Opera why haven’t you fixed this zoom issue?

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Because it’s not a bug?

          • iamtelephone

Maybe, but it seems silly to assume global zoom when stock speed dial panels are very small. I’d be more than happy if they implemented the “toggle view” in speed dial like they have in Bookmarks.

Opera makes some odd design choices and I’m fine with most, but when a new feature hinders previous configuration (a regression), I’d label that a bug.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Well, it may be a matter of perspective. For me the Speed Dial tiles have a nice size so there is no need to use zoom.

And maybe not that many people need to use zoom on internal pages so they have never seen this zoom issue as something with a high priority.

  • redfox

Please bring back the grey color for Bookmarks bar folder icons! The blue ones are horrible.

    • Ariane Lu

  • Beedjees

Could you change background color of the Opera main menu when dark theme is active ?

  • Devocalypse

BUG: Dark theme. Opened Speed dial folders, when no wallpaper is selected, appear in a lightgray frame and background with white labels under thumbnails = unreadable. Applying a wallpaper: same grey background but thumb labels become black and readable. Dark background for opened SD folders would be the best fix.

Przecież możliwość szybkiego dostępu do spotify playera / youtube’a / poczty itd. byłoby killing feature Opery. Teraz macie doskonałą okazję żeby pójść za ciosem, wykorzystajcie to.

That is being asked ever since the feature first appeared in the Developer stream – no such luck yet :-/

It’s strange for me, that a finished download is blue. A finished download was always green. Blue means for me, that the download is still in progress.Red is alert. Something went wrong.

Blue is the new green 😀

  • Ralf Brinkmann

A question: When I see new notifications in Facebook’s headline and I open them one by one, I see the corresponding article and the notification changes it’s colour from blue to clear (mark read). But this does not longer work, when the article opens in a pop up window. The colour stays blue (unread). Is this a new feature of Facebook or of Opera?

  • ManOnTheBorder

Pop-up buttons (search/copy) stopped working with this version.

    • SiMcarD

      Can’t confirm on Win10 x64

      • ManOnTheBorder

Ok, seems like it doesn’t work on my laptop only, works fine on desktop. Maybe I’ll try reinstalling Opera.

        • Leonardo Gomes

What is the DPI setting? The pop-up doesn’t work here too and I rememebr have seen others reporting it too.

          • ManOnTheBorder

Mine is 125% on laptop, 100% on desktop so yes, maybe that’s the problem. I’ll check later if it happens on 100% setting also.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Here i have it on 125% too. I guess the problem is related to the DPI changes they’ve made.

          • ManOnTheBorder

Yep, just checked and it works fine on 100% so you’re probably right.

    • This is known issue with new DPI tracked internally as https://bugs.opera.com/browse/DNA-61013

    • Paweł K.

same problem. works only with dpi 100%, but I use 150%…

Will you implement actual features in v46, or only GUI fixes, which have to be done in the prev version? This is the fourth dev build without anything worth mentioning.

Sometimes a video, that I started, pops out to the upper left side automatically, when I scroll on in Facebook, sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t know why. Must I do anything?

Version: 46.0.2590.0 – Opera is up to date
    Update stream: developer
System: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (x86_64; KDE)

Initially the ‘Tooltips’ went to an unreadable light text on a light background. For instance, this includes the tips that pop up when you run the mouse over Bookmarks Toolbar items. I tried the ‘Dark’ Theme, but there was no change. This problem was a surprise as there were no problems with previous versions and yet the release notes say ‘The most visible [UI improvements]… are addressing the misbehaving tool-tips, both in normal and private mode’.

After a couple of sessions, they reverted to the regular medium grey on black. They are still fine.

However, now the right-click context menus and the Menu pull-down has become an unreadable light text on a light background.

I have seen the Windows dpi issue with Opera many years before this, so I tried 100% Zoom on this Linux system. It has no effect on menus and tooltips. The problem can be worked around because selected items become readable. I cannot see the Zoom setting from Menu, but I can set it in Settings.

This has been a terrible shock as I have been accustomed to Opera Developer being perfect. I will give it a few minutes because I don’t want to go to Boring Beta or, heaven forbid, Stultifying Stable!

In the good old days when Opera version numbers were in single digits, one could change stuff by poking values in a text-based config file. I assume all the UI settings are embedded binary, these days.

      Talking to myself,again!

I think that the Menu problem is a side effect of trying out the dark background and then switching back in order to solve the Tooltips unreadability problem. In spite of switching to and from the dark theme several times, the File Save dialogue and the Download viewer gained by clicking the Download icon – top right- seem to be locked in the dark theme.

    • We have changed HiDPI implementation, and some issues are expected [Windows]
    • More UI-related changes regarding icons, style, and layouts

Sounds good. Will try v46 when it hits Beta. Until then, I’ll stick with v44 still.
