Hi,

Today, we would like to share an updated stable build with you. It contains a few important fixes:

  • Unpinned Opera does not pin itself back to Windows’ taskbar anymore. Many of you reported this issue to us under the last blog post – thank you!
  • Red UI elements in high-DPI issue are fixed
  • Global menu in Unity is back
  • Current theme is now updated when selecting it from “Customize start page”

    What about DNA-53282? There’s other browser, called Vivaldi. It’s based on Chrome like Opera and has side panel too. And it doesn’t have this annoying bug. So I will install it on all computers I configure and recommend it to my friends from now on.

      What this bug is about?

        Opera.exe and opera_autoupdate.exe are in the folder named after version – so with every update its name changes and I have to make new rules in firewall (even for this small update). Because of this I can’t recommend Opera to any less advanced computer user. Many people can’t do this – they just want their machine to work.

          I remember have seen it happening a couple of times but that was it.

          Anyway, I guess it may require a major change in how Opera is installed so if/when such change comes, it will happen on developer channel.

          Leonardo is right. This requires major change in the way how auto update is handled. The work is progressing on this, but slowly.

      As i know, they have a lot of bugs and defect， like: developer tools can only open in pop-up, slow ui
      BTW: Installed since Technical Preview, but never think it’s ready for use

      Hi ktxgio,
      We do not push migrating automatically (by means of auto update mechanism) from 32 to 64-bit. However if you update your browser using the network installer with links that are in the blog post above you should finally get 64-bit build on your computer and your profile (navigation data) should stay with you. If additionally you wish to keep your profile data even more secured, just in case (e.g. disk damage or other unexpected situation) you can back your data up or start using Sync service. Exact path to your profile data folder you can find on the page “opera:about”.

        thanks but i tried to install x64 build selecting “import data from default browser” and all is ok
        now i have x32 and x64 builds for memory usage tests

          I don’t know about memory usage, but i can’t open some huge Web APP with 32 bit version, also, it’s slow on large data process, you can just remove 32 bit version

      Do you mean saving the password mechanism does not save it actually in your case? Do you use Sync service?

        No, I do not use saving passwords in Opera. It’s about saving the login itself (double-click on the “Your E-mail address”). Yes, I use sync but only bookmarks and browser settings.

    Any fixes for Google services? After update to Opera 45 Youtube, PageSpeed Insights, Google Docs etc. stop working on my machine. maOS Sierra 10.12.4 latest Opera stable release.

    The update also sneaked in a new Speed Dial entry from booking.com, at leat for me. I’ve said it before and I say it again: This is not cool, this shouldn’t happen while updating the browser. Sure, I know how to remove Speed Dial entries, but things like this make me wonder: What else is an update trying to sneak in?

        It happened quite a lot in the past. I don’t have an exact number for you, but I would say it’s happening every third to fifth update. Doesn’t matter if it’s just a minor update (like the current one) or a big update (like from O43 to O44).

        It has just happened to me too. Not right after the update. In a fresh update, it’s ok. I am willing to delete the spam once. But after that, it is unacceptable. Please, take this issue the most seriously!

    What about the blue bokkmarks bar folder icons, has it been fixed (to grey)?

      I guess the new color is part of the UI changes.

        It is part of Google’s (Chromium) changes, but it should not be too hard to modify it by the Opera developers. I tried to find where the bokkmarks folder icons are located, but couldn’t locate them as separate files, or in the application dll’s.

      Did you try install from the link given in the blog port or you use opera:about to force auto update? Could you let us know the steps that led to the crash please? Did the update finish at any next attempts finally?

      • opera:about then click relaunch and Opera crashed to update (it was updated after the crash, Opera sent the crash report)

        bgr and techchruch and yes flash is on or and enable geek squad had it off tho could not play youtube videos or younow live streams… etc/example and also my windows 10 windows service is tell me am out of memory with just opera and edge not chrome..

          There is the extensions side bar, where you can add extensions into and there is the navbar, the one with Speed Dial, Bookmarks, News, etc.
          The navbar is the new sidebar.

        Ok, IF i have the linux window manager compositor disabled, i see big black borders around every drop down menu.
        For example the drop down >> on the top right corner shows big black borders around any menu present.
        If i enable the window manager compositor, i don’t see the big black borders any more, but have a different problem: menu simply disappear.
        I’m on Manjaro Linux KDE Plasma desktop environment.
        Sorry for my bad english.

    Vivaldi already has the latest Chrome
    Select link is not very convenient, Opera 12 and Vivaldi has been better implemented Select link.

    Are you going to add “Reload tab” in the context menu of tabs? That’s a basic feature that is missing, along with re-ordering the extensions’ icons on the url bar. When will you allow us to middle click on pinned tabs to close them? Add it as a setting for advanced users.

    Could you please add ‘Open all in tabs’ to folder structures in the Bookmarks menu on macOS? Both Safari and Firefox have a similar feature.

      on win10 I have that item on context menu… in bookmarks manager tree and from O menu
      only bookmarks bar root folder from O menu is different t(it has only one action on context menu)

        It’s different on Mac, which doesn’t have the O Menu. I know you can do this via the bookmarks page but that is quitd cumbersome when bookmarks are also available from the Mac’s top menu. Would be a useful feature….

    Just noticed that resizing the new video pop-out is weird and frustrating. There’s not even a way to resize it by dragging the corners. And the frame has some weird black borders. Please revert it to the way it used to be.

    The Speech function isn’t working for me. I’m using OS 10.12.5. When I click on “Start Speaking,” nothing happens. If I copy and paste text into a .pages document, it works fine.
