As many of you already knew or tested, we launched a huge 2018 World Cup giveaway with more than 2 million prizes in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda! On Tuesday, July 17, we have given away the first of three cars in Kenya from the Opera News Shake giveaway to 22-year-old Kennedy of Nairobi. We interviewed him on July 15th.

Opera: Hi, Kennedy, how are you? Can you please tell us something about yourself?
Kennedy: My name is Kennedy Macharia Gichob and I’m 22 years old.

 

Opera: What do you do for a living?
Kennedy: I’m a student at Karen University. I’m studying Supply Chain Management and Business Management.

 

Opera: How do you feel about being one of the winners of the Opera News Shake?
Kennedy: It’s a dream come true and I’m very happy!

 

Opera: When did you start using the Opera News app?
Kennedy: I remember I started using it in the last few months. I saw my friend using it and he kept shaking his phone. He received some MBs of data so I was like, “Oh, send me the app, I want to win, too.” He explained to me that inside Opera News it is possible to win a Tecno Spark 2 and Itel phones. I saw that I could be a winner, too.

So I shook and shook and shook and won data bundles. For the Tecno phone, I’m only missing one puzzle piece. I’m still trying to get it today. [Laughs]

I’m really enjoying the app. It is fun and I can get direct access to the news in Kenya.

 

Opera: Does Opera News make it easier for you to keep up with the news in Kenya?

Kennedy: Yes, and I can afford to maintain it because it doesn’t eat up my data. Opera News has been helpful.

 

Opera: Have you invited friends to shake?
Kennedy: Yes, I shared the app via WhatsApp. They asked me, “What’s going on?”, so I explained to them that they can win phones, cars and more from Opera News.

 

Opera: Have you invited your family to shake as well?
Kennedy: I invited my two brothers and my sister. I even set up Opera News for her. I gave her the message that I won the car and she was very excited. She did not believe it!

 

Opera: What are your plans with the car. Will you share it with your family?
Kennedy: I will mainly use it for myself. As a student, I can try to set up Uber with it. So I will try to work from there to collect money before I finish my studies.

 

Opera: Anything else you’d like to add about Opera News or the Shake giveaway?
Kennedy: One of my comments is that, especially for young people, you should continue shaking. I really won the car and it’s mine now. Everyone should know this is real 🙂

 

Opera: Who are you rooting for during the World Cup?
Kennedy: I have to say France. I’m a fan of Paul Pogba, who plays for Chelsea.
