Opera for Android earns Google Play Independent Security Review badge for second year running
Hey Opera users!
As we constantly work to improve your favorite browser, security remains top-of-mind. That’s why we are excited to announce that Opera for Android has once again, for the second year running, successfully completed Google Play’s independent security audit – proving, once again, that it is a secure and safe browser. The review was performed by Leviathan Security Group, a cybersecurity firm based in Seattle, WA.
We first completed this review last year, becoming one of the first apps to ever earn Google Play’s new Independent Security Review badge. An initiative by Google Play and the App Defense Alliance, this badge indicates that apps that include VPN functionality have successfully completed a Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2. You can learn more about the process and what this means on our Security blog.
The reason why we are doing this is simple: Reviews and audits performed by credible, independent parties are extremely important for building trust with our users. As technology gets more complicated and misinformation proliferates, users find it more challenging than ever to know which products and services to trust.
That’s why audits such as Google Play’s Independent Security Review are repeated regularly. It means that the review process is performed all over again, ensuring that the app remains secure and continues to adhere to best practices.

Look for the badge in the Data Safety section of Opera for Android’s page on the Play Store, where you can also download the latest version of the browser!
