Hi!

We kept you waiting too long for the developer channel update. Sorry for that! It is here, finally!

Let’s start with under the hood stuff. Chromium has been updated to version 44.0.2398.0. We have also fixed the print preview page and the annoying MSE bug with YouTube crashing like crazy is also gone. If you are interested in a detailed list of changes and fixes, visit our changelog.

New style of controls and buttons

The change that will be most noticable for you is the brand new look of our Settings page, to be even more precise: buttons, search field and other controls on these pages. settings page controls

New Discover page

Another change worth mentioning is the redesign of the Discover page. Now its style is aligned better with the rest of our Web UIs and it has some nice animations when switching between the news categories. Settings for Discover now has their own section, instead of a dropdown menu from previous versions.

Discover redesign

Give the new developer build a spin! Happy testing!

  • Wando Schneider

Thanks for the Update Marcin. 🙂

  • nanana1

Thanks, Marcin, for this Opera developer 31.0.1876.0 update and initial testing showed that my plugins failed to run in this new version. :((

    • Marcin Mitek

Which plugins doesn’t work for you? What is your OS?

      • nanana1

I installed the portable version and placed the NPSWF32_17_0_0_188.dll file and windows media player plugin np-mswmp.dll file in a plugins folder and now although Opera recognize my Flash 1.7.0.0.188, on YouTube website it still showed that my Flash version is out of date despite I’ve already disabled the checking of Flash version update in opera:flags.

Also WMP plugin cannot run too on this Opera Developer version.

These 2 plugins were working on many previous Opera Developer versions.

        On Win 7 SP1 64-bit OS

  • jojoPL1987

      • jojoPL1987

        OK. 🙂

        • Herr Pietrus

So that;’s the reason why sleek Opera’s design has been destroyed. Bad polish taste…. I knew it.

          • Sleazy

And suddenly it’s alright to talk in other languages than english. Det har jeg fandenmig ventet på længe.

          • Vux777
          • Marcin Mitek

No it’s not, I asked to use English in future. See the @Vux777:disqus comment below.

          • Marcin Mitek

I’ll pass that to our design team. Which consists of Briton and Spaniard.

          • Herr Pietrus

I’m glad to hear that! (although I’m still worried that some emigrant can pretend the citizen of the United Kingdom) Don’t forget especially that part about destroying beautifully looking browser!

          • Marcin Mitek

Noted. Your opinion, as the only Pole with a good taste is extremely valuable for us.

          • Herr Pietrus

Oh, certainly not the only one. There were hundreds of comments on this topic. I’m sure that some of them were written by another Poles (exception proves the rule…:))

  • Vux777

if you get black screen on start, add –disable-gpu to opera shortcut
    …….
DNA-38727 Use master tree in the popup
DNA-38538 Enable MSE flag on all streams
    🙂

but the tree is little squeezed, needs more space…and arrow on default folder is nervous (moving on hover ツ)

  • Olli

The new settings page looks horrible, especially on OS X. You should really revert that, it looks fat and ugly..somehow like from GNOME or something but not like a native OS X experience. Huge regression!

    • L33t4opera

Hi, if you want, go to the browser:flags#tools-custom-controls-style, select “Disabled” from the drop-down, and restart the Opera.

      • Of course we can do, but it is really weird where the Opera is going…Do you really happy with it now?

        • Wando Schneider

I don’t use OS X, but on Windows, i like the new style.

        • Vux777

I like it on internal pages, but the same button design looks oversized on bookmarks popup

        • L33t4opera

Hi Mağruf, I think, that it’s always good to have a choice (possibility to turn on/off some of the functions). Each of us has usually a different taste in the field of different things (also regarding the style of the buttons, and controls in web browser), and therefore, I think, that it has no matter for other users, whether I like this new style or not – especially, that we can disable, or enable it 😉

      • Olli

        Thank you, much better!

      • Herr Pietrus

But finally they will enable new design in stable version and remove that helpful flag, so there is no point in mentioning such temporary solution.

    • Herr Pietrus

It is horrible it reminds me very old versions of Mac OS…

  • cxpfhrvd

disable webrtc ? disable canvas ? nothing… fking idiot developers. r.i.p opera

    • x a

A month ago you wrote: “GoodBye Opera,” after issuing the ultimatum “if you do not, I dont use Opera.”

      Nevertheless, you are still here…

      • Marcin Mitek

I hope you don’t mind that I deleted his post.

        • Freedom of expression? S/he did not tell anything bad or swearing

          • SuperTommy

He called Opera developers “f*cking idiots”. I would put that under the swearing category. Also very unconstructive.

          • Wando Schneider

            I agree.

          • Marcin Mitek

One “fuck” is enough for me. Especially towards me or my coworkers.

  • Zik

    Thanks for update.

What means DNA-36949 Finish the side bar?

    • Marcin Mitek

Some last finishing touches and fixes.

      • Nekomajin43

I’ve reported several visual issues and none of them is fixed.

        • Sleazy

They have been busy working on the new settings look.

      • Matheus Bombonato

The sidebar still reseting every time I restart Opera. I have to enable it (Ctrl+S) and resize it every single time I want to use it 🙁

  • Wando Schneider

Some things i found in the first test:

Right click on the extension icon in the toolbar doesn’t work (in the sidebar works fine)

Alignment of the options from the new Discover UI (align from the checkbox with the label). Open discover, go to Settings.

Clicking with the mouse wheel doesn’t open the links from discover in the background.

I don’t know if it’s the new style, but are displaying one weird background (background: hsla(210, 80%, 50%, 0.1);) in the last link (from the bar on the left) of the internal pages (on hover).

    • Marcin Mitek

First one is already confirmed and reported.

      • L33t4opera

Hi Marcin, the bug report: even if the opera:flags#bookmarks-trash-folder is disabled, the trash is still available.

Edit: when you turn off the opera:flags#trees-in-bookmarks, then it works without problem.

        • SuperTommy

          Not happening here. W8.1

          • L33t4opera

Thanks for the reply Tommy, yep, I just checked it, and this issue does not affect Windows 7 as well, but it occurs on Linux and Windows XP.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

I can confirm the rightclick bug for extension icons in the toolbar (the place right of the address bar). Bad. 🙁
      W7x64.

    • Marc

The “zoom-in” cursor icon doesn’t show when hovering over an image that could be enlarged. Instead it shows the standard pointer cursor icon.

Closing (sometimes opening) the inspector crashes the browser. Due to the crash it also sometimes removes any opened tabs including the pinned ones.

      • Wando Schneider

The second is known and they’re working on.

        • Marc

Ah ok, good. I just didn’t see it mentioned anywhere.

  • L33t4opera

It seem, that it was worth to wait a bit longer, the build is more stable than the previous one, and what makes it even more useful to me, it’s the possibility of adding the hotkey to hide/show the BB: opera:settings/configureCommands > Show bookmarks bar 😉

    New flags:
    opera:flags#metrics-versioning: enable versioning of metrics,
opera:flags#disable-delay-agnostic-aec: disable Delay Agnostic AEC in WebRTC. Use if reported system delays are very trusted, or if others experience echo from your machine,
opera:flags#disable-new-video-renderer: disables the new compositor driven video rendering path for video elements,
opera:flags#scroll-top-left-interop: control whether document.body.scrollTop / scrollLeft in JavaScript reflects the standard interoperable behavior (enabled) or legacy WebKit behavior (disabled). When enabled, document.scrollingElement is document.documentElement, when disabled it’s document.body (for strict-mode pages).

  • Nothing exciting. You should concentrate on more basic things. Such as working smooth sync like Chrome does.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

The entry “My folders” in the Opera menu (Opera => Bookmarks => My folders) is still empty, although there are bookmarks in this folder visible in the bookmarks sidebar (I hope I use the correct specific terms and everybody can understand me).

    • NimeshT

      Same here

  • Hylian Ticipated

This is the 2nd time Opera has told me “Your Opera settings have been corrupt” and I had all my settings and extensions gone. Then it immediately downloaded the new version. Luckily I had a backup this time. I’m not sure if it’s related to auto-downloads of new versions or not and it happens randomly. Updated now with everything in-tact.

  • loxiw

    Not bad

  • Is there any shortcut to navigate in the Navigation Bar (between Speed Dial, Bookmarks etc)?

    • Wando Schneider

      Not ATM.

  • Vux777

DNA-38473 Remove background shadow on options button

upon opening, focused item still gets that bluish shadow, until click somewhere on page

    • SuperTommy

      I believe that’s intended behavior.

      • Vux777

yea, your right…it’s on all internal search boxes (upon opening)

  • Nekomajin43

I must be missing something, but all this stuff done in 2 weeks?

  • Abdolahi

    please make a 64bit version !!!
    please !!!!

  • Zik

Looks like this problem (https://disqus.com/home/discussion/operablogdesktop/private_opera_developer_update_before_the_holiday_break/#comment-1938357197 ) solved but only in clear profile. In my main profile problem was still here.

I have spent time and founded out that key lied in History file.
I deleted this file and problem had gone.
    It’s weird.

  • Ghirahim

“Adobe Flash Player is out of date.”

    ARGH!!!

    • nanana1
      • Arjan van Leeuwen

How do you install the Flash player? Note that there is no need to copy any files around, just use the installer from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (load the link from Opera).

        • nanana1

Actually, I don’t like to install the Flash Player in my system, I prefer to manually run Flash Player plugin by using their .dll files.

Finally manage to get the manual PPAPI Flash plugin to work by creating a launcher shortcut and adding a command line to enable the PPAPI Flash Player plugin.

  • fiorella

Hi, so what’s the progress with the sidebar edge toggle thingy?

When i try to add a new dictionary from the context menu nothing happens, just blank page pops out

  • When hovering over certain links (like Reply/Share in this comments section, or the border of the search box in Setting), all the txt goes fuzzy for a second.

      browser: // flags / # enable-gpu-rasterization

      Try setting to the default.

      • Thanks for the pointer on where to look.

For me, the flag was set to “default” already. I changed it to “enabled” and the issue remained. I changed it to “disabled” and it was resolved.

I changed it back to Default and it remained fixed.

      • Anonimo

I can confirm it too. #enable-gpu-rasterization option is default, like you say. It’s not this bad like in image, but all fonts get something like shadow beneath or like clear type settings differ when hovering on items.

    • Marko Koivuniemi

I can confirm this. (Windows 8.1 64-bit, i7 processor and nvidia graphics adapter.

  • Bifth

Hello!!! There´s a problem with Opera, how to prevent desktop notifications as do you really want leave this webpage? it´s quit annoying because can´t switch between tabs and can´t close Opera.

    • Radek Rzepecki

If you don’t want notifications to be displayed you can disable them in opera:Settings – Websites.

      • Bifth

Thank you! i disabled it but the notifications are still there.

        • Nekomajin43

Are you talking about popup dialogs?

          • Bifth

Yes, that are popup dialogs and it is really very bad because when this popup shows up then i can´t change any tab in Opera i also can´t do anything else only click an button to really go to another webpage or stay here.

        • Vux777

I think you are seeing alert popup (with option “stay on this page” and “leave this page”)
          those are not notifications
it’s about web developers to integrate those annoying popups… you can disable it only if it buggs you two or three times in a row…not individually …as far as I know

  • Vux777

I’m getting 100% crash when closing dev-tools window
open any extension background page dev-tools window, close it >>> crash!

    • Radek Rzepecki

yep, we are working on it.

    • Mike

Came here to report it, hopefully a newer build is released sooooon other this may get annoying 😀

    • Marcin Mitek

Fix is on the way 🙂

      • Vux777

        great…
        today?

        • Marcin Mitek

Something else is scheduled for today 😉

  • mse20

“Adobe Flash Player is out of date.” I already have the newest NPAPI plugin and “Warn about Adobe Flash Player update” is disabled. OS Win 8.1 x64.

    • Radek Rzepecki

You need to upgrade to PPAPI.

      • Adobe fixed a bug recently where the update checker was only checking updates for the NPAPI plug in even if you had both NPAPI & PPAPI

      • mse20

        I’d rather use NPAPI.

  • Ice cream
  • mse20

Because you broke NPAPI Flash support, I decided to try HTML5 (with h264ify). Let’s take this for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUsaUNVcV8g and select 1080p50.

In Opera, CPU usage goes to 100% and video is unwatchable.

Chrome Canary uses about 1/4 CPU of what Opera is using and video is smooth.

My question is: why is your implementation so much more horrible than Chrome’s? Why can’t you both use the same, more superior, implementation?

    • Sidney Moraes

Why don’t you try PPAPI Flash Player?

      • nanana1

I tried PPAPI Flash Player and it didn’t work for me, still showing Flash Player out of date. :((

        • Radek Rzepecki

could you go to opera:plugins, click on Show details. Find your flash plugin, make sure it’s PPAPI and make sure it’s enabled.

          • nanana1

Thank you ! Enabling PPAPI in opera://plugins did not work on my portable installation. Creating a shortcut and adding a command line to enable PPAPI Flash plugin DOES work ! Yay !!

Enabling NPAPI in opera://flags does not work to force use my old NPAPI Flash plugin. Seems like Chromium will finally stop all use of the NPAPI Flash plugin.

    • Ice cream

      My CPU : 20% usage (i7-920, Radeon r7 260x)

    • icetom

Chrome also buffers youtube videos much faster then Opera.

    • bwat47

This is because chrome is using hardware accelerated decoding for h.264 by default, and opera isn’t. Go to opera:flags and enable the “Platform hardware accelerated video decoding” flag and you should see cpu usage drop significantly.

    • Soukyuu

That video runs fine here (linux x64), with the same CPU usage on both Chromium and Opera-dev. ~56% CPU on an AMD Phenom II X4 970

Hardware video decoding acceleration isn’t even available on linux apparently.

  • Matheus Bombonato

PDF Viewer still buggy. Sometimes formated texts are not rendered. Sometimes a simple reload fix it, but sometimes not.

    • Wando Schneider

      Yes. I can confirme.

    • Radek Rzepecki

Could you please provide some examples?

      • taneli

I have been wondering the same for several versions, if the PDF reader will ever be fixed.

Well… the PDF in your screenshot has the issue. Just open it on Chrome and you will see the difference.

          • Vux777

I don’t get it, they look the same
            Am I missing something?

          • SuperTommy

Look at your screenshot in your previous post, the first one you made. There’s some text missing.

          • Matheus Bombonato

Your first in SS in your first post was buggy (missing the title and part of the header) and the second post both PDFs are correct. And that’s the problem. Sometimes Opera render correctly sometimes not.

          • Vux777

            aww, you are right

Yes, I can confirm that. Passed further in the team.

  • Gloriam

I’d like to say something to the people who were telling me Opera Developer was perfectly safe to use as your daily driver, as you can see, it’s not. This is not a complaint towards Opera, it’s clear that this is not a build you should use for normal work, but for testing purposes.

    • Radek Rzepecki

It should be safe to use but you may find some bugs and problems with it. It’s released for testing purposes yes, so the users can give us some feedback and help us to find problems so they don’t get to Beta and Stable versions.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      As clearly stated here.

  • Zin

Just a question: why no browser fully supports html 5 yet if the format is around for years? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_layout_engines_(HTML5)

    • SuperTommy

Because HTML5 was developed and added to for years in an ongoing process, until the end of last year when it was declared standard complete. And some developers probably doesn’t agree with all the standards, or some implementations are more important than others.

  • Bifth

Is it possible to change the size of the startpage tiles?

    • Radek Rzepecki

just the titles no, but you can zoom in with CTRL/CMD +

      • Bifth

        Thank you!

  • Tom Lindberg

Since the previous version, YouTube videos have been stuttering a lot, despite low CPU usage.

Also, Opera couldn’t find the update automatically this time, so I had to download it manually.

    • Herr Pietrus

      They shutter since Opera 28…

      • Tom Lindberg

They haven’t for me, I’m quite sure. Well, as long as they fix it.

  • Mike

Not sure if it’s an Opera thing or not but since the Google Play Music update, I just get a blank grey page when trying to load it. Works fine in Chrome & FF

    • Nicholas Loomans

Mine works fine, so it’s not across the board. Kubuntu 15.04 64bit.

    • bwat47

try clearing cache (history > clear browsing data) and then restarting opera and see if that helps

      • Mike

        Makes no difference 🙁

  • Herr Pietrus

Cool, now we have got more space also on discover page! Hurray!
Your leading UI designer is definitely very wise!… Oh, wait…
One more guestion – why haven’t you added that ugly black left panel to the rest of internal pages?! It’s so annoying when you destroy each page separately!

    • Wando Schneider

It’s debatable. I liked the new Discover’s UI.

    • bwat47

Navbar styling/placement aside It does still look a lot better than the old discover ui..

  • Zik

And I just remind that any page of Twitch still eats 30-40% CPU all time…

  • fjk ..

Is there already opera link ?

    • bwat47

Since opera 29 you can sync bookmarks, speed dial, and open tabs. They are working on password sync still.

      • ayespy

Sync speed dial? Only from desktop to mobile, I think. From desktop to desktop all you have is the “other speed dial” folders.

        • Leonardo Gomes

It works the same between desktop and mobile, desktop and desktop, mobile and mobile.

          • ayespy

I don’t think so. My entire speed dial from one of my desktop versions is synced to my android. This does NOT happen between desktop versions.

Edit – just double-checked. It’s either the Beta or Developer Speed Dial synced to Android. Can’t tell for sure which one without further research, because both look identical at a glance.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Strange because it’s not happening here. No matter if desktop or mobile, i need to go to “other speed dials” (or Synced Speed Dial on mobile) to see SDs from other devices.

          • ayespy

I don’t know when or how it happened, but my Android has been like this for a while – so it could have been an earlier iteration of sync. I can’t imagine any other way under the sun – – OH! I JUST REMEMBERED!! Don’t you remember several versions ago when the ONLY thing that could be synced was Speed Dial? THAT’S when that happened!

          • x a

My sync database also seems to be somewhat confused or messed up.

I once mutually saw synced open tabs from 3 machines, two of which were desktOperas, one an Android device. Now seemingly at random I am able to see one or only another machine’s tab-sync on mobile Opera. Opera beta on Android shows synced speed dial of most other machines. And today I see one desktop’s tabs, but I used to see those of another desktop machine instead in the past. One desktop installation right now sees another desktOpera’s tabs, but again that’s not reciprocal.

You probably have to write your observations down trying to guess some regularities. Or have some debug access at hand (on each machine as well as one for the sync-db in the “cloud” – the debug page I know of (showing mostly XMPP exchange) isn’t helpful to me in that regard).

    • icetom

seems they have dropped it and only work on sync which is not the same.

    • ayespy

There is not Opera Link. There will not be Opera Link. There is a different kind of sync, now. So far, it includes bookmarks, tabs and passwords.

  • beBoss

    Same issue at http://bg-gledai.tv/

    Opera: http://s29.postimg.org/rwazx6o0n/1111.png
    Vivaldi: http://s23.postimg.org/re0ruwpqj/2222.png

Only with opera has that problem. FF, Chrome, IE, Vivaldi, Edge – no problem.

When you watch on full screen with Opera the picture of the video is the same size as before the full screen. The player is “jwplayer”

If developers need an account and can’t register their own, just let text me I will share mine(just for test), but this is from 15 builds up to now!

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

It looks like this is with NPAPI Flash. Download PPAPI Flash by going to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ from within Opera. Chrome comes with a built-in version of PPAPI Flash.

Disable NPAPI in opera:plugins – you will have to click the Show Details button in top right corner, then disable NPAPI and see if it works for you.

          • beBoss
          • nanana1

NPAPI in opera:flags is disabled by default.

For those who prefers to use NPAPI, the enable of NPAPI plugins in opera:flags does NOT work in this version.

          • Leonardo Gomes

in fact they are enabled by default. Enabling the flag disables npapi plugins.

          • nanana1

NPAPI in opera:flags is DISABLED by default.

See picture snap here : http://i.imgur.com/AvafV1k.jpg

          • Leonardo Gomes

The flag says “disable npapi plugins”. So if it is disabled then plugins are enabled.

          • nanana1

Oh mine, this is confusing : using a negative of a negative becomes a positive, I get it now. Thank you for being patient with me !

        • Arjan van Leeuwen

Sorry, this was a different issue, we’re taking this up with the maintainers of bg-gledai.tv. Unfortunately they serve a different site to Opera then they do to other browsers, and what they serve doesn’t work.

  • Mouse 3 is not opening Discover pages in the background. Instead it acts as if I use mouse 1.

Also, will you guys ever add the ability to use bookmarks as a default startpage in a new tab?

  • Kamen Minkov

Will you someday make up your mind about speed dials and themes and let me have the same look after an update?

    • BK

DNA-38875 – after this is done, planned for O32, you should not be annoyed with default theme change any more.

      • Kamen Minkov

Okay, thanks, but what about Speed Dial tiles? They used to be logos or screenshots and they’re now text-based (and the appropriate flag seems to be missing). If I now want to have them how they used to be, I have to change them one by one, right?

        • Nekomajin43

Open the page and use the heart menu!

          • Kamen Minkov

Yes, I know that, but the point is that I don’t want to change them one by one (most of them were screenshots as I liked) and, more importantly, there seems to be a bug that prevents the heart menu from showing for previously bookmarked pages.

      • Will I still be able to use SD extensions or are they in death row? I see you’re removed your own FB extension already.

  • Anyone know why the HTML Select boxes in Opera on Windows 10 Insider Preview look like they are from the year 2000? This is currently present in both Opera Stable and Developer versions. Other browsers render better (Chrome and IE). This is needs to be fixed soon.

    • Matt Gladman

Same thing happening here. I imagine it will get fixed in a few builds time

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Do you have any examples?

I remember have seen it before but but now things seem ok.

Is this an extension? Or it’s part of a page? If it’s a page, what is the url?

          • Zik

I just made test html page and opened it. But no matter if it is local or web html.

        • Leonardo Gomes

About the scroll bar, it’s not that different from the one in Firefox, so i guess it’s not a Opera issue.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Ok, i guess i’ve just see the issue on a couple of pages.

I guess it may take a while to be fixed as Windows 10 is not even a beta.

  • wtfopera

I am always set the opera for default browser since opera 10,

PLEASE DO NOT HURT THE USER’S HEART!!!!!!!!!

  • ng wang

I always feel not so good for the speed dial page since v28. because the bottom panel with bookmarks and discovery..is really too bad, it takes a lot of space. think about a lot of people, especially for those who are using laptops, they want to browse which means want to see much more on one page, but now the ratio of laptops is 16:9, which means they are wide enough, we can also see it from the design of the webs, with much more blank space on two sides, but we want to see more contents in one page, now the interface is not browsing-orientated, why do you guys think of it?????

    so, I suggest:
    1)either make the bottom bar narrower, or, which I prefer the one in v26, put it on the side, which also make sense considering the ratio of the screen we have now;

2)when you go into the bk and discovery, why the bottom bar is still there, looks ugly and occupies much space which can be used for the content. why do not put them on the top of the side panel, and we can switch between different tabs, and they are always visible there, just like different tabs for different pages but always in the left panel now we are using.

    3) I also think it’s better to make the left panel narrower, or even better to make it adjustable for the width.

hope you guys can think of my ideas, to make opera better..

    • Herr Pietrus

More space for the speed dial content is for the morons! Two rows of the SD items will be enough! As well as the 640 KB of memory.

      • Marcin Mitek

You are working hard to get banned.

    • Nekomajin43

Not to mention that we have to move the cursor down with the touchpad…

      • BK

Making this bar with fixed position and also changing it position might have been an mistake. There is still hope we will do something about it, but not right away.

        • Nekomajin43

Sorry, but the whole navbar is an epic fail in this form.

There should be some customizability possible. Since everything is (from what I know) drawn with HTML & CSS, why not give the possibility to edit it manually to people who dare to?

    • L33t4opera

Hi Ralf, it’s the same as once before, two files (lastsync, and md5sum.txt) in this directory have been updated.

  • Updater is a bit flaky on Win 8.1 x64, I clicked the relaunch after it downlaoded the update, it did not update (I disabled the viewpoint experiment, and then click there to do a relaunch and it updated correctly (also Opera dev was has having trouble determining if it was updated (up to date))

Speeddial is totally buggy on linux. After install this version, some folders are summarized. If you reorder, then the new folders with the reordered links are empty and the links are in the summarized folders again. Please fix it!

  • Andrew J Klimek

Crashes every time I try to dock DevTools, was enjoying it but now I’m back to Beta!

  • I keep having problems with commenting on Facebook. Pressing a comma or period followed by a space (which you do all the time, of course) opens the search bar and takes you out of the comment. Very annoying.

    • L33t4opera

Hi Sebastián, you can go to the Settings > Shortcuts > Configure Shortcuts (opera:settings/configureCommands), and scroll down to the “Advanced shortcuts” section, and then remove “,” and “.” under the “Find in page”, press “OK”, and see if this helps.

      • But I don’t want to disable the shortcut in every page! I just want it to work as it’s supposed to. 😉

        Thanks for the workaround, though.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Hmm, it’s working fine here. Try checking if your browser.js is updated.

      Also try resetting keyboard shortcuts.

    • Dmitry Kirin

Same here. It does not happen always, though. I haven’t figured out exactly what triggers it. It’s possible that it’s some other hotkey-driven action like copy-paste, but I’m not sure. A clear bug.

  • duhduhduh0

Shift the bottom speeddial bar to the top please. thanks

  • PJMZR

After update I see black background, everywhere. I can’t see navbar. Generally everything below address bar is black. In previous version everything was ok.

    • Vux777

put –disable-gpu on Opera shortcut, then it will work
you can disable HW in browser settings once when it’s up and running

      • PJMZR

        Works fine. Thanks a lot.

        • BK

Can you share any OS / GPU details?

          • PJMZR

No problem. OS: Win7x64, GPU: Radeon HD 5870

    • BK

can you check please if disabling #enable-experimental-web-platform-features changes anything?

      • PJMZR

In my case all flags are default (in previous build settings were the same), but I’ve checked it, and there is no difference if I enable or disable this option. Still black background, of course when HW is enabled.

        • BK

Thanks 🙂 one last try, can you check #enable-platform-accelerated-video-decoding ?

          • PJMZR

Done. Unfortunately still the same issue 🙁

    • CrashNBurn71

I had to disable this option in opera://flags
      “Enable GPU rasterization.”

It was causing text to be blacked out when the mouse moved over unrelated elements.

  • Я

My sync account is broken, I mean after my try enable flag browser://flags/?search=sync#sync-passwords my sync. stop work in any version. All ok only in opera 12.17. What i need to do to fix it?

      • Я

Try reinstall browser and you lost all you’re bookmarks… history and other, for me work to.

        • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve started seeing that message after i decided to “reset” my Opera’s profile.
After have logged into sync, everything (bookmarks, history, settings and so on) came back.

          • Я

But reset not work, how you do it? I push “reset” browser send me here https://sync.opera.com/web/ and i get message “Page not found.”

          • Leonardo Gomes

By “reset”i mean create a new profile folder by deleting or renaming the old one.

Before that, there was no such message and sync wasn’t asking for a passphrase.

          • Я

No, its not work for me..(

  • Ralf Brinkmann

    Friday?

  • gregorweber

Those blue buttons are very distracting.

    • L33t4opera

Hi, you can disable it in opera:flags#tools-custom-controls-style.

  • The new blue controls are amazing! I can now drop my default browser to replace with Opera. This feature was top feature on my waiting list. Good work Opera. Keep it up!

    • Zik

      Lol. =D

  • A. R.

    Tab stacking, please.

  • Soukyuu

Webpages are still rendered ~10% smaller compared to firefox and chromium… oh well, maybe next build.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Not here (W7x64). Everything looks exactly the same. Which system (OS) are you using? Is everything smaller or only text? Have you checked the zoom status?

      • Soukyuu

I’m on linux and I made sure to match the font settings. It’s not only the font though, images seem to be squeezed a bit as well. Zoom is at 100%. I actually reported that as DNA-38819 but since there is no feedback I don’t know if anyone looked at it.

For example, here’s the difference between chromium and opera for gsmarena:
        https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/19330332/opera_bug/DNA-38819/gsmarena_chromium.png
        https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/19330332/opera_bug/DNA-38819/gsmarena_opera.png

They start at the same upper left corner coordinates, but opera draws stuff smaller.

        • Arjan van Leeuwen

It’s because Opera takes your system DPI settings into account. Change your DPI to 96 and you’ll get the same size as in Chromium. If you tell me which DE you’re in I can even tell you how to do it 🙂

          • Soukyuu

I’m on KDE5 and I was under the impression the default dpi _is_ 96. I forced font dpi to 96 in system settings -> fonts and restarted opera. Now most of the sites I visit indeed look the same as chromium. Does that mean chromium/firefox ignore dpi settings?

          • Arjan van Leeuwen

There’s a reason people often tell us Opera is so nice when using HiDPI screens on Linux 🙂

          • Soukyuu

            …I guess 🙂
Now if only I could customize speed dial pictures and size…

  • Rafael Luik

Why are you changing the elements’ appearance? My OS should render those.

    • Sidney Moraes

Although I agree with you, I enjoyed the new style.

  • Вадік Дудар

  • taneli

So, all of O31 builds so far has done this: Open a background tab or open a link from 3rd party source or open an internal page, the page won’t load, just gets stuck saying “Loading…” and blank page, and and the loading icon stops and goes away.
    Just a liiiittle bit annoying.
Pretty sure it’s not an extension problem, since it also happens on internal pages (like “About Opera”).
    Win8.1×64

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Not here (W7x64). What happens, if you close Opera, rename the profile folder (just for testing) and start Opera again, now with a new and clean profile? If that doesn’t help, do you use Avira? Try to disable your antivirus programm and start again.

      • taneli

I already tried with a new profile, no, i do not use Avira, and i tried again after disabling my AV, still happens (even on internal pages).

    • Eric83

I have the same problem with the Linux build of Opera 31. New-tab pages open about half the time. I don’t have the problem in the stable or beta versions.

  • Вадік Дудар

Opera says that i need an old passphrase from old version opera`s sync. i don`t remember it and webpage for resetremember my old passphrase not work (error 404). Please, help me. I want password sync.

It’s a bug afaik. Happening here too.

  • Jademarisa

Still no menu, bookmarks horizontal bar, no skins? You’ll have to wait a long time yet for me to go back to Opera, if I do at all

when has a opera 64bit for windows ?
    什么时候会有windows下的64位的opera 程序?毕竟现在64位的浏览器已经很普遍了,chrome , firefox , ie都有64位

      • EASYINPLAY

Can’t you see the first line of English? Maybe your eyesight is not good, I repeat it in Chinese probably to let other Chinese users see. Which of the rules said English is the only language here?

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Ok, lets do some guessing games in the meantime.
    For example:
1 full week means 32 bit and 1 new background theme
2 full weeks means 64 bit and 2 new background themes
3 full weeks means 128 bit and 3 new background themes (then we would have a small advantage over Vivaldi and all the other browsers)

    • Vux777

they probably focused on stable channel and fixes,..there is another stable updated today

      • Ralf Brinkmann

The other team, yes. While this one is planning our new 64-bit-Opera.

        • Wando Schneider

Is this a joke? Or is based on a fact? I’m asking only for curiosity.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

          • Wando Schneider

            Great catch, Ralf! 😀

    • SuperTommy

      I want a 128-bit browser! Sounds faster.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

        When is the deadline today?

    • Der Herr Nick

I’m sure it’ll be 1024 bit by late august.

  • Der Herr Nick

Strange behaviour since June, 11th: When I click on a background tab using the touchscreen, the tab opens in a new window. Doesn’t happen when I use the mouse. Anyone’s got the same problem?

EDIT: Pinned tabs are not affected.

  • iamtelephone

    1) Previously when the setting “Continue where I left off” is used for startup, I could close on the speed dial and when I re-opened Opera I would arrive at the same speed dial. However, now any speed dials are automatically closed upon re-opening.

In short, let me open on a speed dial while using “Continue where I left off” (Linux 64bit).

    2) Is there a way to disable tab previews while Ctrl+Tab? It’s ridiculously slower (v30+) now that it forces a tab preview instead of simply switching tabs!

    3) When opening ‘browser://bookmarks’ with ‘#trees-in-bookmarks’ setting, can you have “My Folders” automatically expanded like in v29? It’s annoying to keep expanding folder trees. Remembering previous states (open folders) would be a lot better too.

    • iamtelephone

Just to add on, it appears that right-clicking on an extension icon (in toolbar) does not work on Linux for v31.0.1876.0.

  • BOPOH BOPOH

Opera 31 dev. Opera shows a white box on any tab

  • honssnoh

Nice update however I think there are much more important thing to implement than discover. What about such a basic feature as sorting bookmarks alphabetically? Or finally get some more gesture sensitivity setings + that magical one RIGHT CLICK + MOUSE WHEEL 🙂

    • Dave-H

You can sort the bookmarks, but it’s not exactly intuitive.
If you put them into a folder on the bookmarks bar, you can right click on the folder in the bookmarks bar and sort them.
You can’t do it in the bookmarks manager though, which is really silly!

  • fearphage

This version is very unstable. Tabs crash constantly. I’m not sure what forces them to crash, but it’s not the complexity or amount of work required. Gmail never crashes, but tweetdeck does consistently. Youtube is crash-prone as well.

https://web.skype.com is not working. only two builds for 1.5 month

      • s fauske

Try to install the required plugin

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Ok, I have installed the plugin https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/skype-calling/blakpkgjpemejpbmfiglncklihnhjkij direct from the Chrome Webstore, but Opera seems not to recognize, that the plugin is already installed, even not, if I use an user-agent switcher. I have to experiment a little more. Usually I use the program Skype itself.

        • Ralf Brinkmann

New trick: After I had tried to install the plugin in Opera as described, I found a file “SkypeWebPlugin.msi” in my download folder. I closed Opera and started the installation of this *.msi file. After restarting Opera everything worked and I could do a call. But I tried this in the new 31 Beta, so I don’t know, if it already works in the developer. Try it out!
