Opera launches its first free data campaign in Ethiopia, offering Safaricom users up to 1.5GB of data per month for free

We’re thrilled to announce our free data campaign in Ethiopia! Together with Kenyan telecommunications company Safaricom, we’re bringing you up to 1.5GB of data per month – for free!

Our free data campaigns are a big part of our Africa First strategy. In Kenya alone, we’ve has invested over $12 million in free data campaigns over the past three years.

The free data campaign* is accessible through Opera Mini and Opera for Android. Opera Mini is already used by nearly 100 million people across Africa because of its unique Data Compression technology, which can help you save up to 90% of data while browsing. The campaign will enable Opera users to enjoy up to 50 MB of free browsing every day when using Opera Mini or Opera for Android on the Safaricom network. The deal excludes video streaming and file downloads, and is valid for the latest versions of Opera Mini and Opera for Android.
