Hi All!

In today’s stable update, we offer a few UI and stability fixes, which include the following highlights:

  • DNA-44703 [Mac] Crash in -[BrowserWindowController windowDidResize:]
This is a fix for Mac crash on closing tabs when in the full screen mode.

  • DNA-43779 NativeThemeAlt for Win10 – WP8
This one provides a fixup for the Windows 10 native controls, which should now look correctly.

  • DNA-44102 [Linux] Some sites (YouTube) no longer offer an appropriate video format (e.g. WebM)
This fix enables fallback to other video formats (e.g. WebM) if proprietary video codecs are either not present or not recognized, and there is an alternative video version on the site.

  • DNA-45054 White tile on Windows 8.x and up
This is a minor tile icon fixup for Windows 8.1.

Also, the Chromium version was updated to 46.0.2490.80.

Version 32.0.1948.69 is still latest for me. Check for update every hour.

    • Marcin Mitek

Autoupdate is enabled gradually. Part of you will get it tomorrow, part on Thursday.

    • Aneta Reluga

This is a gradual autoupdate – if you want to have the updated version right now, please perform the manual installation.

  • Geza

    Same here.

  • L33t4opera

Hi Aneta, thanks for the update and fixes 😉

    Opera nearing perfection.

  • xirit64

To be honest I was expecting a fix for the infamous recurring “password manager saving” message but ok I can wait 🙂

    • Aneta Reluga

      This is being worked on!

  • Dark Magician

Funny, I just installed manually first 33 ver on two laptops, because auto update didn’t work. And enabled a flag for Windows 10 theme, sat down, opened the blog, and you fixed it. So what I just did was totally pointless. 😀

    • Marcin Mitek

Actually, there was one more fix included in this build under the Win 10 theme bug ID, enabling the flag in older builds might not be enough for some. But it should be fine now 🙂

  • Shion

Why does Windows 10 native theme flag is enabled by default? It makes SELECT element look retarded on Windows 8.1.

    • Aneta Reluga

According to what I know, this element is consistent with what can be seen on Win10 (the arrow down is visible on hover). Can you please attach a screenshot if this is not what I’m speaking about?

      • Shion

33.0.1990.43 had this bug for sure. And it seems it got fixed in currently last 33.0.1990.58 version.

      • Shion

Seems like the bug got fixed with 33.0.1990.58 update. Unable to reproduce it anymore.

      • Shion

Can’t. I toggled the flag few times and bug doesn’t appear anymore.

      • Shion
  • Docteur Moreau

Thx, it looks pretty nice for Win10.

    then Opera auto-updater crashed

    • Aneta Reluga

      1) Does it look the same after you restart Opera and go to the “About” page?
      2) If the restart did not help, can you please close Opera, clean both your Temp folders and try again?

      • DownHouse DownHouseRe

        1) did not help
        2) what temp folders are you say about?

        • Alex

i have the same issue. I followed your steps, but not fix the problem.

          • Aneta Reluga

Can you please retry now? Should be fixed already.

          • Alex

i have used manul installer and it’s ok now. sorry

          • DownHouse DownHouseRe

            Now it’s work.

        • Aneta Reluga

Speaking of Windows (most versions), there are usually two of them: one in WindowsTemp and the other in Users{username}AppDataLocalTemp
But since cleaning these did not help for Alex (commented below), we’ll take a closer look. Thanks.

    • BK

thanks for this report. It’s fixed now.

  • Angry Penguin

Not working on my Linux desktop. I use RPM distro. You provide only .deb pack for Linux. I always trying install it (.deb) with simple script from ruari (rpm4opera) now this script not working. It download opera, unpack, but when trying repacking to rpm gives error.

So devs, please make also rpm pack for Linux users. Not all use ubuntu and other debian based Linux distro…

    • Łukasz Jagielski

Hi, what kind of error do you get in rpm4opera?

      • Angry Penguin

        I have only this:

“Repacking started. This may take a few minutes…
        Something went wrong with packaging.
        Incomplete repack left in /tmp/opera_repack.UL6tkA
        [x@localhost rpm-opera]$”

    • L33t4opera

Hi, “we do create them internally, but we don’t have a repository set up yet to provide easy updates, which is a requirement for us to consider official support” – the source link.

In the meantime, if you want, then you can add the Russian Fedora non-free repository, which provides RPMs for Opera 😉

      • Angry Penguin

So if you have rpm pack you should consireing posting it also in your opera desktop blog and called it experimental unitl you get easy update. So this sould fix for now this.

        Can you?

    • Łukasz Jagielski

It actually works for me pretty fine, what’s your rpmbuild version?
      $rpmbuild –version
      RPM version

      • Angry Penguin

        [x@localhost ~]$ rpmbuild –version

        RPM wersja

        • Łukasz Jagielski

I’d suggest adding -v or -vv to rpmbuild invocation in rpm4opera, more information will be available.

  • iPristy

What about 64bit, FF browser was just released in 64bit. Well at least i can update with previously downloaded file for Opera Stable.

  • “DNA-43779 NativeThemeAlt for Win10 – WP8”

    Yes! Thanks!

  • Denis Royer

whith i use a portable version i have 2 icon in tasbar

and juste 1 in normal version

  • Is the auto update mechanism broken? I had to manually update from Opera 32 to 33 using the offline setup and i have the same problem with this version (Opera says that it’s up to date).

    I’m using Windows 10 64-bit.

    • Aneta Reluga

It was malfunctioning for a while, but according to my info (and checks) it is already fixed.

    • Aneta Reluga

      Two things:
      1) This is a gradual update so in case you’re getting just an “up to date” message, this still means you would get autoupdated tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
      2) For a while, indeed we had a slight autoupdate malfunction, but now it is fixed already for all previous versions.

    • Walter Zagal

      Same problem here 🙁

    • muratservan

I was lookin’ for anyone has this issue. Same here.

  • Izer0

Switching back to 31, latest properly working Opera. From 32 there are still problems with graphic, blank pages or crash on v. 33.

    • Aneta Reluga

Hi, which system are you using? Also, can you please provide an example of the site which is always crashing for you? Thanks in advance!

      • Izer0

Win 7 64 bit. It is crashing sometimes without any specific website or when I reopen closed tab. Seems like an memory management problem.

        • BK

Hi, have you got reproducable steps for this crash?

if you set up OPERA_CRASH_EMAIL we will be able to easily look up your crash based on the email value you provide there. Can be any dummy string, like Izer@opera.com

          • Izer0

Hi BK, no reproducible steps right now. I will try to use v33 for few days and maybe I could find something. But seems like graphic acceleration problem because it affect skype also and then skype does not refresh message windows properly, animation eg. emotikons stops working. This were happens also with some older versions around v22.

          • BK

            OK, thanks 🙂

  • icetom

you silently fixed one bug i reported (unclickable area in speeddial on top). wow i am positively suprised,

  • Falconet

I’ve had this issue since 33.0.1990.39 or 33.0.1990.43.

When scrolling on a page (no matter which website), I frequently get black parts and other parts like the one in the picture:

    Please solve this.

Using Ubuntu MATE 14.04.3 LTS 64-Bit, Kernel, Opera hardware acceleration is disabled due to another bug on speedial.

    • Any ad blockers or other extensions?

      • Cryio

I’ve the exact same problem. Except I don’t use adblockers nor Flash. And I get huge black rectangles .

        Windows 10 x64

        • Falconet

          Exactly what happens to me.

        • Marcin Mitek

HWA on or off? Any extra flags enabled? What graphics card are you using? Drivers for it up to date?

          • Falconet

For me, HWA is off, no extra flags, graphics card is the onboard HD 8570D of my AMD A8-6500, drivers are the open-source ones for Ubuntu. All up to date.

          • Marcin Mitek

Thank you. We will look into it.

          • L33t4opera

Hi, maybe you can give a chance to the AMD Catalyst (proprietary graphics driver) for Ubuntu, or alternatively install it via the Ubuntu repositories – don’t forget to re-enable the HW acceleration 😉

          • Falconet

Maybe but the other user has W10, no idea if AMD, Nvidia or Intel card, but he experiences the same issue…

          • Cryio

Default Opera installation. No additional flags. R9 280X, 15.10 drivers.

      • Falconet

        Adguard. Disabling doesn’t change anything.

  • sgrandin

This is with 33b, but not sure if that thread still being read… At Yahoo Finance, when looking at a stock chart, e.g., 1 year, it does not fit the window.

    • Aneta Reluga

I’ve tried the interactive stock charts from Yahoo Finance on Win7 64bit and they look odd (but in a similar way) in all checked browsers, e.g. IE. At least I couldn’t find a chart which would be different in Opera and other browsers, so probably it’s a site issue. However, if you have a good example of the broken chart ONLY in Opera, can you please provide a link and we’ll start working on this. Thanks in advance.

      • sgrandin

You’re right re FF and IE, but Vivaldi gets the formatting right. Actually, Opera 12.17 does too, but the inside of the graph is black (has been for months).

  • Nico

Thank you for the quick fix for the Native Theme on Windows 10. I have one question regarding this: Do you also have plans to change the look of menus on Windows 10? For example the context menu should be white instead of gray.

You can check with Google Chrome, but I also made a comparison screenshot:

(left is Opera, right is Chrome)

    Thank you!

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Why it should be white?

      • Nico

Because white is the default look for menus on Windows 10, obviously.

        • Mikolaj Boc

Actually menu color on Win10 is 251, 252, 253 – not truly white but somewhat grey.

Here’s a screenshot I used to determine the color:

        • Vux777

MS Edge menu is gray too

          • Nico

It’s not just the color, the overall style is also different. The menus from Opera look a lot like those from Windows Vista/7 and that look doesn’t fit for Windows 10.

    • bwat47

The chrome menus aren’t native at all, they don’t look like any of the native win10 menus…

Opera’s context menus are identical to the style used in most native win32 apps (notepad for example), so they are about as close to a ‘native’ context menu style you can get in windows 10…

      For example:

      Notepad menu: http://i.imgur.com/FaKZTJ2.png
      Opera Menu: http://i.imgur.com/JermbYk.png

as you can see the style is pretty much identical, and much closer than chrome’s menus…

In any case, windows 10 is notorious for being all over the place when it comes to context menu styles (and ui styles in general). for example, here’s the clown car of totally different menu styles you’ll see in windows 10:

      Edge: http://imgur.com/mpPLIEe
      Windows Explorer: http://i.imgur.com/ATzQQ4w.png
      Windows Explorer Ribbon: http://i.imgur.com/OG0W0rS.png
      Start Menu: http://i.imgur.com/v4DjSiq.png
      Taskbar: http://i.imgur.com/8V3SrD4.png
      System tray context: http://i.imgur.com/HkA6xfg.png

So a ‘native’ menu style in windows 10 is kind of an oxymoron xD

  • Kev87

    Thanks for these quick fixes!

  • tlc9711

  • Benn192

When will new 64 bit ???

  • Marko Koivuniemi

Why on earth my Macbook isn’t able to run Opera but it still can run latest 64-bit Chrome. I have late 2008 Macbook and Intel Core 2 Duo. But OS X 10.6.8 is latest running in this machine because of poor graphics adapter.

    • Leonardo Gomes

IIRC support for OSX 10.6 was dropped a while ago.

      • Marko Koivuniemi

Sad. I understand but I wonder this because latest Chrome 64-bit version still works.

    • Cryio

You really can’t upgrade to a newer OSX at all?

  • Stanislav Stratil

Will be there native support for smooth scrolling?

    • SuperTommy

Probably when Chromium gets it. According to a Chromium developer, they aim to implement it this quarter. If you follow the link to the actual issue, you can see they’ve ramped up the work on it around August or so.

      • Stanislav Stratil

        Thx, I was just curious.

  • Daniel Havelka

I am experiencing huge CPU usage from OperaHelper process on OS X 10.11.1 :-/

  • ctrl+tab doesn’t work at all (I’ve been waiting for this being fixed but nothing got better since this summer, so now Developer is my default browser.. lol).

    • SuperTommy

Have you tried going to Settings > “Browser” section, scroll down to “Shortcuts” > “Configure shortcuts”, then click “Reset all”?

      Edit: opera://settings/configureCommands

      • it works. Thanks a lot!
although it’s weird that I’ve never changed those settings..

        • SuperTommy

It was a bug some months ago that cleared the pre-defined shortcut for ctrl+tab, and the shortcut setting has obviously followed through your updates. 🙂

  • Guigui

Please add the default search engine Qwant https://lite.qwant.com/ – it’s not possible to set default when i add manuely this search engine…

Question: Is Hardware Accelerated Rasterization important?

It’s disabled on Opera on my end. Everything else is properly hardware accelerated.

    Windows 10 x64, AMD 280X, drivers 15.10, DirectX/OS up to date.

  • Opera Stable (v33.0.1990.43) not updated to v33.0.1990.58, automatically on my PC (Windows 10 x64).

    • Joaomanoel

Just restart the app and will update.

    • It is a gradual auto update, you can always manually download the update from opera.com

  • When will we use Opera 64-bit on Windows platform?

    • Leo Liu

Now, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox have their 64-bit browser, only Opera doesn’t.

I think maybe Opera is doing 64-bit browser right now, but maybe it will release to stable after many years…

      • The new browser Vivaldi (its first beta is launched today) has 64-bit version.! Details are here: https://vivaldi.com/download/

        • Leo Liu

          Oh, thanks your information. 🙂

      • Marko Koivuniemi

I would like to see real world experience what are you missing when using “just poor” 32-bit version? 64-bit version itself doesn’t garantee that it’s faster. Regular users rarely see limits of 32-bit architecture of browser.

    • The 64bit for Opera on Windows is experimental (not stable)

      • Leonardo Gomes

        There is one?

        • I guess I got it mixed up w/ Vivaldi (they have experimental x64 build, tho Chromium itself I am not sure how the x64 builds are going (They have gone x64 only on OS X not sure about Linux yet)

          • Falconet

They have 32 and 64 bits in their download page for Linux.

  • Millionmileman

Depending on whether one has a 32-Bit or 64-bit computer Opera always downloads to the computer’s Bit number. This has been for a couple of years now since
Opera 15. When opening “About” the Bit is displayed.

    • Leonardo Gomes

The bits on “About Opera” refers to the OS, there is no 64 bits Opera for Windows.

  • Mikolaj Boc

Finally Opera now supports Windows 10 scroll bars & other UI elements. Always looking forward for this support.

  • opera://about/ has a 3 year old bug, the System name has had fake versions for many users on OS X

Example there is no such thing as; Mac OS X 10.11.x, nor Mac OS X 10.10.x, nor Mac OS X 10.9.x, nor Mac OS X 10.8.x
    ( Back in 2012

    • Aneta Reluga

Thanks a lot. It has been reported into the bug database now.

Is it a minor bug or something else?

33 still collapses text on select in many pages
(after the selected, text or part of text just disappears)
for example in google_translate – translated text disappears after select in 33
    (in 32 it worked fine)

  • ShintoPlasm

I am noting a regression in this latest stable version (33.0.1990.58) compared to the previous one (33.0.1990.43): that infamous delay of about two seconds before Opera ‘connects’ to a new website/domain in any given tab? It’s back once again. It went away for me in the previous stable version, or at least was reduced to insignificance, but now it’s back. My configuration is totally unchanged between upgrades.

I don’t understand this particular bug at all – Chrome has something similar but the delay is pretty much unnoticeable, and Firefox connects to pretty much anything almost instantaneously. In Opera, this little yet frustrating delay is much more noticeable, and is a significant turn-off from using it as my main browser.

  • thebrutalkremlin

What did you all do??? My CPU is going nuts after this upgrade, that I didn’t even authorize. I’m about done with this program… Why does Opera and Firefox seemed to think that BLOATED is best?

    • Aneta Reluga

Can you please share more details about the CPU type and usage and also provide info about the OS you are working on? Thanks.

  • Sławomir Szewczyk

    Cards/activity not working: http://postimg.org/image/cougoc9wh/

    Netflix on Linux not working.

    • Aneta Reluga

Regarding tabs – does it mean that you are unable to synchronize then every time you login?

      • Sławomir Szewczyk

Login, sync bookmarks, history, passwords works. Only cards are not working.

  • Opera 32 & 33 stable both have trouble remembering the position of windows minimized to the dock (reproduce many times on clean Opera quits), I have to put them back on order upon every Opera start

    OS X 10.11.1

  • Bandes

SERIOUS MEMORY LEAK IN THIS VERSION ! 33.0.1990.58 Windows 7. Task Manager shows Utility: named processes each with about 2500Kbytes of memory usage. With every site opening more of these appear and stay there until Opera eats up all gigs of my memory !!!!!

    • I also see a lot of Utility (I’m on OS X 10.11.1), I wonder what experiment did this (I have not change experiments in a while only seeing the Utility process with 33)

      • Leonardo Gomes

        Most probably this #v8-pac-mojo-out-of-process

        • That is disabled here (yet I have over 100 Utility processes listed in Opera Task Manager)

          • Leonardo Gomes

Strange, here i have enabled it (usually it’s on “default”) and see only one utility process running.

            I’m on Windows 10.

          • Strange indeed (I played with Mojo back in 28 beta (opera was faster tho not to stable w/ Mojo then)), I have about 100 utility process running and each is using 20.x MB of Ram

Other than that I have 15 active tabs listed in Opera Task Manager

          • It is not one of the flags enabled by default in Opera 33, it is one of the others (all the Utility process are gone after reset all flags to defaults)

          • Leonardo Gomes

To let it more strange: i didn’t reset flags and now i don’t see any utility process.

    • Aneta Reluga

If you find out which one, please let us know as well so that we can fix it asap.

      • Leonardo Gomes

        Most probably #v8-pac-mojo-out-of-process

        • Bandes

i did try that turning it on. Utility processes are spawning, but they are getting killed off too now.

          • Leonardo Gomes

As i said in another comment, i have enabled the flag a while ago and never seen more than one utility process.

Maybe a combination of flags is causing the issue.

          • @leocgomes:disqus @chasapple:disqus @disqus_spQpCb57yj:disqus Did someone know what it is yet?

Running Opera with flags set to default for so long and wish to revert.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Sorry, no idea. The only flag that mentions a utility process is “Out-of-process V8 proxy resolver” but even with it enabled i’m not seeing a utility process.

You may need to test one flag at a time.

          • Ain’t got no one time for that apart from people working for Opera 😀 Forever default flags now.

      • Seems like opera://flags/ has a corruption bug, a reset all to default and I have no utility listed in Opera:flags. Seems like some of the settings are broken and what is displayed is not what is in the settings file it seems

I think it might have happened from a Opera 32 update bug (that is when I noticed the strange issues), it was from Opera 31 to 32 and then using 32 that I noticed the issues

    • Leonardo Gomes

The Utility process is related to #v8-pac-mojo-out-of-process, which is a Chromium flag.

    • On opera://about/ do you get a message about a update?

      • “Opera is up to date”. I updated manually, thanks!

after big november update of Windows 10 i’m getting often crash.
    w10 64 bit
    8 gb ram.

    • eXzentrik

Me, too. Opera randomly freezes. Could have something to do with HTML5 contents, but I can’t reproduce it. It happened on different sites, e. g. EuroGamer.net, mediathek.daserste.de, myspass.de and others. However, after a browser restart, the same site and content which previously led to the freeze/crash, works without problems then. I have reinstalled Windows 10 Home x64 after the fall update was released. The same Opera version was rockstable before the Windows 10 update.

EDIT: Now I can reproduce a freeze.

1.) Load this link and make sure you switch to the tab directly:

2.) Now close the tab with middle mouse click while the HTML5 video is loading.

      3.) Opera freezes and crashes.

Thanks for that, we will investigate.

Me too…after that update opera is crashing a lot on different pages…like web.whatsapp.com and a few others

if list of opened tabs is too long (length > height of Opera window || monitor screen), you cannot e.g. scroll down to the last items in the list 🙁 But it works (scrolling down possible) when there’re some items in “recently closed tabs” and some in “opened tabs” 🙂 –> too many opened tabs are needed to cause this bug imho 😉

    • Vux777

      I can confirm this
trying to scroll down makes list jumps at the start immediately
same for mouse wheel or clicking on scrollbar and dragging down

Whats going on with Opera stable with the latest version! I pay for 50mbps down & get 2mbps? With Opera 12 I get 50+mbps! Can’t figure out what’s wrong with the latest version? Any suggestions out there!

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Same on Windows 10.

      • Aneta Reluga

        Ehh. Longtime known issue. 🙁

  • On Opera 33.0.1990.58 there is an audio bug (you can test it in Google hangouts in the play test sound in the settings), I also notice it when I start Opera, and there is a message in the console (opera://flags are all at default)

    OS X 10.11.1

Does not happen with Safari 9.0.1

  • Ich Bin Deine Tod

Hello, how to add two plug-ins which are allocated on the picture with a red oval? P.S. Opera Web Browser 33.0.1990.58 Stable, Windows XP OS

    • Leonardo Gomes

Those are not plugins, those are video codecs. Since XP doesn’t suipport them originally, Opera can’t play them.

      • Ich Bin Deine Tod

And what it is necessary to make that to include them, to download video codecs, and where to take them, and can put expansion? Or it is feature of OS and you will make nothing?

        • Leonardo Gomes

You will need to upgrade to a version of Windows that supports it natively: Windows 7 or higher.

          • Ich Bin Deine Tod

            thank you for your help

  • xirit64

Any progress on that password saving prompt? Come on guys 13 days later and still
“DNA-45037 [Engine] Never save password does not work” fix not being backported to the stable. It’s the stable stream guys, your flagship, everything is supposed to work. Don’t pluck your own eyes out.

  • L33t4opera

    New update – Opera stable 33.0.1990.115 😉

  • bviktor

Guys, I just want to say THANKS A MILLION for finally giving us Ctrl+N and Ctrl+PgUp/PgDown for tab switching. Opera is nearly perfect now! Keep up the good work 🙂

  • thebruh

Where does opera store it’s plugins? any folder to be exact?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Opera uses the plugins installed in your computer. Where each one is stored depends on the plugin and OS.

      • thebruh

trying to add the flash plugin, dll method, without installing (no install access here in office) but I can’t seem to locate the plugin folder. using windows 7.

        • Leonardo Gomes

You can’t add plugins like that afaik, you need to run the installer. Opera looks for the plugin location in registry (in Windows) afaik.

  • qternet

Ctrl+Tabbing is terrible in new Opera versions. Can you at least put a switch into options? I need to switch tabs quickly not choose them from some small menu.

    • xirit64

      Try Ctrl+PgDn & Ctrl+PgUp

      • qternet

I’m on a Mac although thanks for the tip as I tried some keystrokes and Cmd + Shirt + arrow is the magic formula. Doesn’t work too well, gets stuck on pinned tabs, doesn’t work when in text input but still a better option than fatuous tab menu.

        • xirit64

It’s working fine here on pinned tabs as well but I’m on W7. If you want to reassure yourself that you are using the correct keyboard shortcut or even set another one you can go to opera://settings/configureCommands and look for “Switch left/right through tabs”.

          • qternet

Not bad! Opt + Cmd + arrow works as expected, thank you, internet citizen.

          • xirit64

            you ‘re welcome 🙂

  • Dipanjan Goswami

Why Opera Auto update is not working with Explicit Proxy server? We have un-authenticate the access setup, white listed the URLs but still it is failings

  • Dipanjan Goswami

I also downloaded 33.0.1990.115 version, still not working. Pl advise.

    • Vux777

if you downloaded full install package start it
for classic installation (non-usb) Opera will upgrade it self
(you will see accept and upgrade button )

For upgrading USB (standalone) installation just point installation path to previously installed
