Hi Guys,

Opening webpages via typing URL in the addressfield is for sure one of the most popular action that you do in your browser. Focusing on the addressfield, we would like make your daily actions easier and faster.

Today we have UI addition for you to check. When clicking addressfield with mouse, tiles with your most popular sites should appear – and then, the site is just a click away, no need to type anything. To enable the feature, please go to options and in the “User interface” section tick “Show extra suggestions”. Initially the tiles are filled in with your speed dials, but as you browse more and more, the content should be filled in with top sites.

If you have any suggestions towards your addressfield experience and this particular feature, be it opening websites or searching, please share with us; this is just initial developer iteration.

We’ve delivered Win 10 fix for Win95 like scrollbar style.
Work on improving download manager popup is also ongoing. You should be able to cancel ongoing download from the popup, earlier you needed to go to download manager.

Thanks, Błażej, for this first Opera Developer 34 build 1996 browser !
    Testing now.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

    Hi! Thank you for 34.

This new feature “Show extra suggestions” is not made for keyboard users (always one of the greatest strenghts of Opera) and shows too many of “The Usual Suspects” for me.

    • master94ga

It show the page that you have on speed dial the first time 😉

    • Press Down multiple times 🙂

But the suggestions are weird. None of my speed dials, few rarely visited sites and a lot of sites which I haven’t visited at all.

  • L33t4opera

Hi Błażej, thanks for the article, and congrats on the first Dev 34 😉

New option – Settings > User interface > Show extra suggestions.

    New flags:
    – opera://flags/#extended-suggestions

    – opera:flags#bookmarks-api-on-speed-dial
Enables bookmarks API for Speed Dial.

    – opera:flags#bundled-themes-on-disk
Store default themes on disk, not embedded in resources.

    – opera:flags#mse-audio-mpeg-aac (Mac, Windows) Enables support for the 'audio/mpeg' and 'audio/aac' MIME types in Media Source Extensions (MSE).

    – opera:flags#osx-share-button (Mac only)
Enables a button on the browser toolbar exposing OS X's sharing API.

    – opera:flags#proprietary-codecs-support-for-web-audio-api (Mac, Windows)
Enables support for proprietary codecs used by Web Audio API.

    • Vux777

      any details on
      #bookmarks-api-on-speed-dial?

      • ahoj1234

I would bet on ‘set this bookmark folder as a speed dial folder’ if it has not been possible yet.

      • L33t4opera

Hi Vux777, it seems to be related to “DNA-39706 Use bookmark extension API instead of our own WebUI API on the start page” 😉

        • Vux777

          🙁

I was hoping for something else

      • Rafał Chłodnicki

It’s a rewrite of the whole start page code using extensions API. On the surface it shouldn’t change (although there are some minor differences if looking very close), but it makes it easier to improve and build on top of it.

And it’s also not finished so some bits are still missing (dragging in and out of folders for example).

        • Vux777

          ok
          tnx for explanation

  • Zik

    Opera 34: Chromium update 46.0.2490.6

“Stay tuned there will be more” – Opera 33
Well, thanks again for those astonishing features of the last two versions. Testing.

    • Marcin Mitek

Always in good mood, aren’t you? 😉

      • Lacedaemon

Well your new wallpaper was very nice though, I must admit it 🙂

(not the logo though imo 😉 )

        • Marcin Mitek

It looks better on that wallpaper, agreed.

Edit: I am still fan of the current flat O <3. But I see, that the new one allows for some cool looking things, and that wallpaper is a good example.

          • Lacedaemon

yes for the first time since the removal of the old SD style I really, really liked how it looked on my SD. And that tells a lot considering what I ‘ve said about the flatness, the “too much” white producing “hard” contrasts etc. over the last months. Although it’s dark, the colors, their gradients, the subtle texture-grid on the one side and the intense red on the other side contrasting smoothly with the white of the tiles created a gem. I think I found my perfect-permanent-to-stay wallpaper (theme) and I’ve already forgotten “transparency”.

          • Wando Schneider

Can you Share a screenshot, if you don’t mind 🙂

          • Lacedaemon

it’s this wallpaper: http://www-static.opera.com/multi/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2015/09/opera-new-logo-wallpaper-computer-2560×1440.jpg , 7 columns, ~4 rows, 22″ monitor, logos, some thumbnails, some folders.

      • catup

It should be Chromium 47….., isn’t it? Or, this is still Opera 33.

  • Windows 10 style fix… finally 10 months after the public Preview OS release

    • Mikołaj Boć

If you really installed Windows 10 previews, you would have known that the problem began around June.

      • I was using Edge on previews, thanks for the information 🙂

Anyway they are late even if the problem appeared on June. It’s almost 4 months. And they even published a post talking about the great experience on Windows 10. In the meanwhile Firefox is working on a dedicated UI just for W10

      • Cryio

Windows 10 RTM build was released on 15 July. So we’ve had this issue on the RTM build for over 2 months now. Opera 34 will obviously release in some 3 months time. So it will be 5 months we’ve had Opera bugged on Windows 10. And basically a whole year since this has been happening on Windows 10 builds.

Firefox devs even had a whole new UI at the ready. Granted, I won’t give them props because they never did something with the UI on Windows 8 while the Opera team had 2 different UIs, one round for XP/Vista/7 and one square for Windows 8.x/10.

  • Vux777

this is better than chrome new tab > most visited

    • Marcin Mitek

Similar logic, different execution. Rough one at the moment, but that’s what developer stream is 🙂

  • SQL

The download manager improvements are a big plus for me, thanks! (Still hoping to find that “Run” option one day, on the file download location selection :))

    • Marcin Mitek

There are some things in the works regarding downloads, they are simply not yet ready.

      • L33t4opera

Hi Marcin, could you fix the link to the blog post in the change log, please? 😉

        • Aneta Reluga

Should be fixed now. Thanks. 🙂

  • Olli

    So no new developer logo?

    • Marcin Mitek

      Not yet, work in progress.

    • Aneta Reluga

      Not yet. Soon, though.

    • Didit A. Pamungkas

aw why not now, we ready for new opera..

  • Olli

You removed the opera:flags#tools-custom-controls-style flag? That’s not good.

  • qwert

turbo 2 for VideoCompression not? Why remove it?
    DNA-42940 Remove kFeatureTurbo2VideoCompression flag

    • Wando Schneider

      They only removed the flag.

  • So this “Suggested” sites thing has been in some of my stable installs for weeks now… It does not show most visited sites, just some random ones that I never use. Is there a way to turn this off?

EDIT: Also, are you guys ever going to add chrome cast support to Opera?

    • Aneta Reluga

Yes. In the Settings page, under the “User interface” section, there’s an option “Show extra suggestions”. This is how you control this feature.

      • Yes, thank you for this advice. There is just one little problem. There isn’t such an option in Opera 32.0.1948.31… And I’ve had this since 31.

  • Cary Fries

Slick..very slick. Any embedded vine.co video on twitter results in an automatic crash whether clicked on or not. Not so from the host website. However, even from the host, videos not rendered at all, which has been true of all recent Opera interations. I tried disabling flash, defaulting the flags, still the same thing. Windows 10, x64

EDIT: My bad….it seems to be YouTube that is crashing. Or both site are crashing, not sure…but check youtube.com directly – Tango Down. That’s with Adobe plugin enabled or not.

    • Aneta Reluga

Win10 today’s crashes are unfortunately known. Thanks for the report anyway.

      • Cary Fries

        Thank you, ma’am.

      • Cary Fries

Can you confirm whether or not you’re working on vine support? Or is this a proprietary decoder issue?

        • Aneta Reluga

Weird as it seems, we are unable to confirm your Vine issue with Win10 or Win7, however the animation is missing in WinXP (which indeed might indicate a codec problem). Thanks for pointing that out.

Edit: Also, perhaps you are using NPAPI plugins to interact with the page? Please make sure you have PPAPI ones and recheck. Thanks 🙂

          • Cary Fries

Thank you. As far as I can tell, Chrome is the only Blink based browser right now that will render both embedded Vine videos on twitter, and from the host vine.co site as well. Chromium will not, Firefox will not, nor does Edge or IE. I shall experiment further.

          • Cary Fries

Ah, well this is embarrassing. I am using W10 LTSB, sans media features. Installed the media standalone feature pack, and now I have Vine videos on all browsers now, all sites.

          • Aneta Reluga

Thanks for confirmation, and also glad that it works for you now. 🙂

  • Leo Liu

“We’ve delivered Win 10 fix for Win95 like scrollbar style.”
I think you guys should also put that fix in the Opera 32 Stable.
This is a bug fix, not a new feature.

    • SuperTommy

It’s not impossible for that to happen (I guess). It should undergo some testing in developer first though.

      • It can’t be worse than it is now in stable 😛

        • SuperTommy

True. It brings back some nostalgia though, but I think I’ve got my maximum dose for now. 🙂

    • Cryio

I think that’s a Chromium issue, that needed a whole new version for it to be implemented. Either Opera devs didn’t report the issue before Opera adopted the Chromium base for Opera v32 or their demands were ignored somehow.

Or … Opera was sloppy and didn’t think Windows 10 and a visual glitch like that was a big issue.

    • BK

Hi, this change required much more than just simple 2 lines of C++ changes, that’s why it took much longer and why it can’t be easily backported to final.

      • Leo Liu

        OK, I’ll wait patiently.

      • Spencer

Care to elaborate on what caused it? It seems like a strange bug, and I haven’t heard of any other applications that had the same problem.

  • Ghirahim

Those extra suggestions. Can I only have speed dial there? It would be very useful.

Also spell checker doesn’t work. PLEASE fix it.

  • of

Page crash after each Ctrl+Tab is not good. 🙁 Is there a workaround for this?

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      No page crash here (W10x64).

      • SuperTommy

It’s under known issues, so it’s definitely there affecting some. 🙂

        • of

It crashes even with disabled tab prewies. So it’s not known or issure description wrong.

          • SuperTommy

Because tab previews are shown on Ctrl+Tab regardless of the setting. So it’s known, but description could have noted that as well.

          • of

            Hm… but why? 🙂

          • SuperTommy

Good question. It’s a design choice, but I definitely agree it’s not the most logical. I mean, if you turn off tab previews, you expect it to be turned off when using Ctrl+Tab also.

    • It crashes even with disabled tab previews on my W10x64 machine 🙁 This is currently useless for me, I have to downgrade.

      • of

        Exactly!

    • SuperTommy

Probably not. I would assume they would have mentioned it if there were.

  • kapsi

Please add an option to delete devices from “tabs” screen.

  • Cryio

“Today we have UI addition for you to check. When clicking addressfield with mouse, tiles with your most popular sites should appear – and then, the site is just a click away, no need to type anything.”

Opera devs …. where do you get these ideas? Like seriously, who is asking for this? Who thinks this is a good idea? Over other …. actually needed stuff ?

    • Lacedaemon

I think they get ’em from using tablets and touchscreens. Like that: “an average user on a tablet can’t & won’t enable a bookmarks bar and drag stuff onto it, why not provide him a list of his sites when he presses his finger in the address bar?” It’s the same as why a desktop OS needs ON/OFF switches for adjusting settings… (see windows 8,10…)

      • Cryio

I seriously doubt Opera devs are thinking of desktop touchscreen users at all at this point. There are rumors for Opera launching on the Windows 10 Store. As for the desktop version itself … not likely.

        • Lacedaemon

and what is your explanation? or wasn’t Windows 10 made for tablets, smartphones and stuff in the first place? “one unified experience” for everything?

          • Cryio

It’s still a desktop browser made for a desktop OS. Windows 10, like 8.1 and 7 before it, can use touchscreen only for some stuff. The only browser that works properly with touch on Windows 8.1 and 10 remains IE11 so far.

          • Mikolaj Boc

What are we missing from toucher’s perspective, in your opinion?

          • Cryio

When I’ll get my Surface Pro 4, I’ll tell you how Opera behaves 😀

          • Lacedaemon

The only browser that works properly with touch on Windows 8.1 and 10 remains IE11 so far.

When I’ll get my Surface Pro 4, I’ll tell you how Opera behaves

so no credibility at all of what you ‘ve said. Trust me, that feature is coming and is made for touchscreens and tablets in the first place, as you can see from Mikolaj’s response.

          • Mikolaj Boc

Huh I am happy for you 🙂 Please keep in touch about the touch input, appreciated.

    • Nekomajin43

Actually, there were a lot of requests about a BM bar autohide. This is something similar. You can navigate only with mouse without opening a new tab, and it does not require screen space. According to the post, using top sites in only a temporary solution.

So this is finally a good idea.

      • Herr Pietrus

Temporary? And what is their goal? To place there huge grid of your all BM? Your SD?
No, it’s not really good idea, but if they’re going to display something there, their initial idea about the most frequently visited websites (perhaps from some specific time period? e/g/ last week?) is the best

        • Nekomajin43

Can you turn it off? Yes. So what are you complaining about?

          • Herr Pietrus

They could do something else instead of this.:)
But as you can see I haven’t told that it’s completely stupid. 😛 As I mentioned in another comment, it should show us the most frequently visited sites from a specific period of time.

It;s a wonderful place to advertise some websites too. Even if you don;’t use address bar to launch your websites, you use it when you search something. They only have to remove that enable/disable” checkbox 🙂

          • Nekomajin43

Or it can contain the recently closed tabs. Or another set of pages besides the BM bar and the speed dial.

Or all of these can be options to choose. It can be multiple rows high with different content in every row.

          • Herr Pietrus

I admit, I thought about the recently closed too, but we know that it’s impossible. 😛

          • BK

Thanks for interesting discussion guys 🙂

        • Vux777

          why not ?
it is already written that is something like chrome “most visited” (or whatever it’s called)
…and if you don’t want it (maybe annoying)
          turn it off…
          why drama pan? 😛

  • Kev87

It seems that there is now a notification when opera has installed a new update, or was this already present in older versions? Something like this

  • Белый Волк

Сайт ввконтакте не пашет. Пишет страница аварийно закрыта.

    • IllusionMH

DNA-43967 Displaying Tab Preview causes renderer to crash on Windows 8 and higher
Нужно отключить превью табов в настройках.

  • Kev87

The option ‘show extra suggestions’ is not translated in the dutch version of Opera. (http://imgur.com/y57b6eU) I don’t know if this is also the case in other languages.

    • SuperTommy

It’s the case in other languages as well (just tested some). I would think they don’t wait for translations before they implement functions in developer versions. So it’s basically translated on the go while in this cycle.

      • Kev87

Problably, but in my opinion this should aready be done before release, even if it’s dev.

        • SuperTommy

I must disagree with you there. It would slow down development too much waiting on all translations to implement a function. It’s more important to test it out when it’s ready to be, than to give it minimum amount of time because of some strings getting translated. It being only in English doesn’t affect the testing – which is the purpose with a developer release.

  • IllusionMH

Any chances to see improvements for Overlay scrollbars?

When they are enables scrollbars in blocks are not transparent and hide text behind them?

  • Zin

Kongratz Asa Software, while you stripped off Opera of everything that it made Opera and are inserting feature we hardly see ppl asking for them here your opponent Vivaldi is going this route http://vivaldi.net/surveys/index.php/statistics_user/action/surveyid/561377/language/en and you can be SURE that they WILL take your share of the market.

    • AlkaSetzer

Well, of the features being asked for, sync is already in Opera, smooth scrolling is best if the chromium master implements it (or at least fix their implementation) I guess, for RSS you can install Smart RSS (and associated plugin) from the extensions, for lazy tabs go to opera://flags you will see the option there, for site specific settings install the Site-specific Preferences extension. Those are just the top 5 requests for Vivaldi.

But I do agree that a user pool is a great solution to gather feedback from who actually uses the software. If Opera was a closed deployment browser just for the Opera staff, they could just implement what they want. Sadly this one of the things where Opera misses, interaction with their user base in developing the browser (not that the other browsers are any better).

      • Aneta Reluga

Thanks for your insight. Let me just tell you that I – personally – don’t fully agree; believe it or not, we actually do a lot to interact with the users, listen to the user suggestions and are pushing to make the best product available. It’s just that in the world of limited time and resources, we have to *choose* what we think is best, and deliver it as soon as possible. And as much as we’d love to make everyone happy with what we do, this is just virtually impossible.

        • AlkaSetzer

I know how the last part works, I’m also a full time developer, choices have to be made based on what you have in front of you or management choices.
And I do believe that Opera might be taking comments from users and incorporating that input in development, what is not transparent is that that action is happening at all, that is the problem I was talking about.
In fact I think one of the best things of these beta and developer builds and associated blog posts is the amount of feedback you can gather in one go and vice-versa the feedback users can get to their comments. It’s just that, again, it’s not easy to see, from a user perspective, what are your plans.

As an aside I’ve been an Opera user since version 5 or 6 (one of those, can’t remember) and although I’ve jumped ship a while between 12 and around 20 (to chromium). I was back to Opera because I do believe in this browser and the people that work on it, even if don’t use all the features that you have brought since 16 (i.e. discovery page) or that I’m missing something from the old Opera (in fact I’m not, except the mail client but that was also a product of a time when POP was king and webclients were not prevalent or powerful).

          • Aneta Reluga

This was a darn good, sincere and insightful comment, thanks! One of these which make one’s work meaningful, no doubt.

Personally, I’m also a long-time Opera user, dating back to the times when it was a shareware product, so perhaps even longer. A lot has changed since that time. That’ll be so cliché, but I’ll say it anyway: changes are inevitable and what we can do is to make them as smooth as possible, and for the better.

Back to the point though. Your point is taken – we’ll try to be more verbal and communicative here, whenever possible. As a developer, you would understand that some info might come too early and that’s why it is usually not given; we’ll try to strike a balance there though.

          • AlkaSetzer

Yes I do understand, and I know it may be hard to provide non-technical users (and even some technical users) a good description of why you are implementing something. But like you said balance and compromise win the day in the end.

Keep up the good work and thanks for your comments as well.

      • Lacedaemon

Except that you have forgotten to mention that Vivaldi has already integrated dozens of those features and more. Also 30% is “Not completed or Not displayed” which can be anything.

  • Herr Pietrus

What about bottom toolbar? New logo is not enough to satisfy us…

I really appreciate the change in download pop-up.

As for the address field suggestions – I’m using address field ONLY to search for the websites. I’ve launch specific pages via SD or from my bookmarks (trough Neater Bookmarks extension, not Opera’s manager, completely useless for this particular task)

    • BK

thanks for the feedback. More changes in download popup is coming.

We are experimenting with bottom toolbar, no outcome yet.

      • Herr Pietrus

make it “top” and not so high and that will be the best experiment… why do you like to complicate simple things? 🙂

  • Data Keeper

Is there a particular reason, so opera team could not fix the spell checker (it was reported many versions ago)?

It looks like as a easy things. It start work when you pass through the “Dictionaries…” dialog and stop work after next the next browser start.

    • BK

      do you recall DNA ?

  • Gloriam

The updated download pop-up is definitely an improvement, but I do hope you’ll check my earlier feedback on when clicking on a download, it should give a pop-up with options before you start downloading (Like Opera 12+), that’d be great. 🙂

But it’s a very good step into the right direction, thanks!
Keep up the good work. 😀

  • This page crashes Opera by me. (WinXP32)

    http://magyaropera.blog.hu

    • Cryio

      No problems here. Windows 10.

    • Aneta Reluga

Thanks for the report. Indeed, this page crashes the renderer on WinXP but not on Win7. Sent for investigation.

    • Soime other pages crashes Opera, too. I will collect some for testing purpose.

      • Aneta Reluga

Yes. This is WinXP-only issue. The one you’ve included is a 100% crasher, but if you have more crashing URLs, please list (a few would suffice). Thanks in advance.

  • Strathos

Please.. expose the mouse gestures configuration, just like with keyboard shortcuts while you were working on the GUI part.
I get that not many users care about mouse gestures, but I’m pretty sure by now that you’re basing your statistics solely on the browser “feature usage information”.

The current mouse gestures setup doesn’t work for everyone, and many of us are forced to use extra-software like a desktop application that recognizes gestures and sends keyboard shortctus or (shudder) javascript-based mouse gesture extensions. So for all these users it will show that they have the mouse gestures disabled.

    • North

Please bring back “Duplicate Tab” as gesture (move down then up)

      • Kamen Minkov

If they reimplement actual gesture customization, it won’t be needed to ask for this or that specific thing as a gesture.

  • taneli

Hmmh, Facebook is still all fucked up, when you scroll the page, it makes the friends list go away, the chats get all mixed up on top of eachother.
+ now, i can’t browse many sites anymore, they just render blank.

Same shit for 3 major versions, and no new features, well done.

    • Radek Rzepecki

      what OS are you on?

      • taneli

        Win 8.1 x64.

        • Radek Rzepecki

strange I used to get this on my ubuntu machine, the issue appeared to be chromium problem that supposed to be fixed now. Can you please double check that you got your Opera developer upgrade to O34. Thanks!

    • Marko Koivuniemi

Tried without extensions? I cannot confirm (win 8.1 x64 also) Have you enabled “slimming paint”-flags? When I enabled those I have huge problems with for example Google Maps. I remember similar mixed up problems but I think it was caused by some adblocker. I now use “uBlock Origin”.

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Hi, please watch your language! We’ll try to reproduce your problem when you provide more information about your browser (eg. installed extensions).

    • Mikolaj Boc

Listen another post like this and you’re getting a ban. Now I’m removing your gutter talk.
The post was about Facebook’s layout going wrong.

  • Kamen Minkov

Every tab I return to says “Page crashed”. Win 10 Pro x64. How did you guys manage to achieve that?

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Hi @kamenminkov:disqus, sorry for that. We’re working on it. Quick fix: disable Show tab preview in Settings.

      • Kamen Minkov

        Yeah, that’s a workaround. Thanks.

  • Luis Amaral

I also get a page crashed error on every tab that I return to.

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Hi Luis Amaral, sorry for that! Quick fix: disable Show tab preview in Settings.

  • David Augustin

Hi there, I use Opera on Linux, If I point the browser to this online language dictionary (http://dictionary.reverso.net/german-english/bleiben) and click on “bleiben” to show a context menu and choose “play” in order to hear the word in the speakers, I get an error box saying: “the page says: “An error occured, please try again”. I’ve tried it in Opera 31,32,33 and now 34 and I still get the same. Other browsers like Chrome and Firefox behave corectly on the same OS. I already submitted a bug report to Opera on this.

  • beBoss

It’s hard to catch the browser to move it if it on fullscreen and you have tabs where “+” and “recent close” are side by side. The only place where you can catch the browser is under the Opera menu button….

  • Daroj

Love new recommended address bar. something smiler to what Safari have. but hope in the future u guys will add some more options to it and more custom like its on Yandex Browser for example.

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Hi @disqus_K5jxoFnLRs:disqus, thanks for the feedback! We’re still working on this feature, so stay tuned 😉

      • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

Good to hear, it would be better if the br is populated using history/most visited items.

  • Cary Fries

Any intent to introduce tab mute, per chromium/chrome?

    • Neelz

Tab audo muting is a must!

  • Tulio

my tabs are crashing everytime i switch pages using the keyboard shortcuts. Also sometimes after the page crash opera stops responding to any keyboard shortcut. This is annoying. (win10 pro x64)

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Hi Tulio, it’s a known issue. We’re working on this. Quick fix: disable Show tab preview in Settings.

      • of

It crashes even with disabled tab prewies because tab previews are shown on Ctrl+Tab regardless of the setting. There is no fix for this. 🙁 Only switch tabs with your mouse.

        • Can confirm this, Ctrl+Tab always crashes the tab even when tab preview is disabled. Switching tabs with the mouse (with tab preview disabled) works just fine.

          • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

We have already fixed this. It wil be available in next developer release.

          • Awesome!

          • of

I look forward to it. 🙂 When it will be availble? 😉

          • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Most probably next week. Stay tuned.

          • of

            Thank you! 🙂

          • SQL

Are there any plans (you can talk about) for when it comes to releasing O33 to beta stream? 🙂

  • Charlie Sanchez

“Initially the tiles are filled in with your speed dials” – not really. I see some predefned tiles instead pages from speed dial. Also there could be option to always suggest sites from speed dial as not always sites that I often visit are sites I want to go to initially.

And for something different. Is there some way to enable “classic” menu (some flag maybe)? Many times it would be one click less to access some of the menu items.

Thanks for your hard work out there!

    • sbs73000

Yep, “initially the tiles are filled in with ads” would be more honest. Using O34 since yesterday and those ads are always there… Does it work only with a uncleared history ?

    • BK

The intention was to get your speed dials there, thanks for the notification.

      • Vux777

        those adds never go away
…I opened tons of other pages, and never one of those
but they still stick as “suggested tiles”

      • What about the intention of having this in the stable? I have had this “feature” since O31. Is there a way for me to disable it? I wouldn’t mind it if it was working, but all it does now is show me ads of websites I never want to visit.

        • SuperTommy

Sounds like you are (un)lucky enough to be part of a secret experiment. 🙂 I would try to download the offline installer and reinstall Opera, maybe you’ll get opted out of it. Or – have you checked the flags for #extended-suggestions?

          • Meh. I tried that more than once, never really worked. In fact, originally when this popped up I cleaned everything and re-installed using the offline installer which got rid of the suggestions. However, upon automatic update from O31 to 32, it came back. I have been a (un)lucky part of these experiments forever now. As I already mentioned to you before these “features” are popping all the time on different installations. I have not looked at the flags yet, but I will. I did not put in much time into fixing this since this happened on my spare laptop which I don’t use much.

          • SuperTommy

Yeah, you’ve had some strange encounters lately. Hopefully you’ll get an answer by the devs, my suggestions are just shots in the dark really. 🙂

  • Юлия

I like this 🙂 But you should make all thumbnails either square or rectangular:
    https://i.imgur.com/RegS1ms.png

I also like the new logo. Looking forward to seeing it into the actual program 🙂 Much better than the previous one.

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

      Thanks for the feedback! 🙂

    • Marko Koivuniemi

I don’t like this new log but who cares, no one is going to ask me anyway. 🙂 Hardly no one likes when Presto was replaced but now it’s clear that decision was right. And this is just a logo. But idea and “story” is quite nice. And with that red cloth flying around – I can shape it like ‘V’ if I like. 🙂

    • Stanislav Stratil

Rectangular looks always better (at least for me), but maybe its taking too much space in this case? Anyway, I agree that they should choose which one to use.

  • Alex khomenock

Please fix problem with render on win 8 and win 10

    • Aneta Reluga

Of course. The proper fix is on its way; the quick workaround fix for now is to disable tab preview.

      • NoName

        But that does not work.

I have had i disabled for months, it still pops up…
I have tried enable and re-disabled it. Still no luck.

It’s a problem for me on multiple (non-linked) devices.

  • mb

Please please please implement a notification if one closes Opera while a download is running

    • BK

this is to be delivered soon.

      • mb

        Thanks 🙂

      • And please don’t forget the special case of this request when someone closes the last private window while a download started from a private window is running.

      • Nekomajin43

How about a general confirm box on every window close?

  • Dark Magician
  • Rick

I enabled the “Show extra suggestions” but it is not working for me. When I click the address bar all I see is “Reccommended” and no icons, just whitespace. Ctrl + Tab cycling caused page crashes, but I then mapped Ctrl + Tab to switch through tabs which is better for me anyway.

I still would love to have tab stacking as I work with many open tabs at a time and I would love to have the right mouse button feature so I can right click + scroll through my tabs. Thanks for a great browser!

  • SteveX

Hello, as pointed out by other users, I think we need a window when we try to download something with the size of the file and the possibility to open it, save it or cancel the download, like in the old version of Opera. In the other hand this is a feature that every other browser has always had, except the new Opera…

    • And like Firefox in particular is doing, allowing awesome extensions like DownThemAll to appear in that window.

  • Stanislav Stratil

Ok, I must say, this is nice feature. But looks like you forgot about possibility to remove default search providers (or at least hide them) from search bar drop down menu and rearange them however we want. Or, show more than only 10 of them.

I know its now possible to cycle through all of them with ALT+Arrow keys, and I really appreciate that, but if we are able to cycle through all of them, why we cant see them all? And option to edit favicons of search providers would be also nice.

    Anyway, this looks weird: http://i.imgur.com/vIsWo17.jpg?1
    Win 10 Home x64, Opera dev 34.

  • Callidus

For the address field feature, since our hands are already on the keyboard, how about allowing us to hit down to access the tiles? Then we can use the arrow keys and enter to select.

    • BK

hm.. does not pressing down arrow work this way?

      • SuperTommy

        It does!

        • BK

          Super 😉

  • Vux777

what if site doesn’t have touch icons (or whatever you are using now for tiles)
will they fallback to those color squares (ugly)?

  • catup

Hey, I am wondering why Opera developer is keeping using Chromium 46 instead of 47.

    • Aneta Reluga

Every new “big number” Chromium version change needs a load of adjustments and proper testing, hence the delay. Sometimes there is just more work.
I hope this sounds reasonable 🙂

      • catup

Thanks for your reasonable reply. It looks Chromium 47 made too much change compared to Chromium 46.

      • TomasD

No it doesn’t sound reasonable because the whole point of you making a switch from presto to chromium was exactly to avoid a need to do “a load of adjustments and proper testing” every time chromium changes. Seams to me that you could’ev kept presto just as well doing your adjustments and testing with the presto.

        • Aneta Reluga

I’m sorry that “proper testing” sounds unreasonable to you. I have to disagree and rest my case.

      • Lacedaemon

So this is practically another O33 update and not O34, (O33= 46.0.2471.2, O34=46.0.2490.6) you are just behind schedule, what is quite the norm after the closing of the Oslo office, and you tried to hide it. I don’t blame you (devs), but I don’t clearly like your CEO and management for the slow-down of the browser and the lack of real features since O31.

  • catup

Opera developer shows in the task maneger a very long name as “Opera developer Internet Browser”.

  • Satin O’Connor

Will Opera 34 finally get an updated Flash Player? Currently using 32 that I downloaded less than a week ago, and it’s got the very outdated, insecure, and crippled version 16 that is UNABLE to view flash content at all! I have used Opera for years but have been forced to begin to abandon it for some tasks I do regularly due to the necessity of a working flash player plugin. Honestly, it is downright inexcusable for this oversight to exist. Flash has been a common plugin for approximately a decade now. There is no reason for it to be ignored and an insecure, outdated, and inoperable plugin to be the pre-installed and non-updatable (I have tried the installers from Adobe, they d not affect Opera at all) be what is provided.

    • Olli

On OS X, updating PPAPI Flash Player works well with Opera.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

        The same with Windows 10×64.

    • SuperTommy

What? You have to install it manually, Opera doesn’t have integrated Flash in their releases. I have v. 19 of Flash which I got from Adobe site.

    • Kev87

It’s not the same as chrome with build-in flash player. With Opera you have to do it manually. Just go to the download page of adobe with opera and download the latest PPAPI-flash, install it, and you’re ready to go!

    • bwat47

Opera doesn’t bundle flash, so it has nothing to do with updating flash on your system… just download it from adobe’s website as mentioned by Kev87.

When you download flash from adobe using Opera it’ll automatically serve you the PPAPI version.

  • Stanislav Stratil

I was just thinking, that maybe you should just remove that “white box” in bookmarks. That way, it can be fully transparent and nicer with animated themes.
    What do you think?

    • BK

I’m not sure what you mean, can you rephrase please?

      • Vux777

I think he meant bookmarks manager background
tree view have transparent background but right panel where thumbnails are (or list view) is gray

        • Stanislav Stratil

          Yes. 🙂

      • Stanislav Stratil

        Its nothing important, just this:
        http://s28.postimg.org/mbdo4gt1n/Nepojmenovan_1.jpg

If you make this white area looks the same as transparent area, it can be unified, and maybe it will look better while using animated themes. I hope you understand now.

But it would be suitable to make some indication of tree view border on the left – if someone wants to resize it. Something like vertical line or something.

  • Lacedaemon

Horrible performance of PPAPI compared to Presto’s NPAPI (flawless) dudes. Twitch.tv on “source quality 60 fps” skips constantly frames (=stuttering). Was that the reason we switched from Presto? To have inferior quality?

    • BK

      will investigate, thanks for hint.

      • Lacedaemon

Actually it was a rhetorical question, I’ve given up hoping for a smooth play for the last 2 years, except maybe when HTML5 replaces PPAPI flash. It’s that engine you ‘ve selected to build on, I’ve tried it on Chrome & Chrome Canary and it’s the same bad performance everywhere so you can’t do anything. Really frustrating & infuriating to see Presto behave flawless.

remove your idiotic adcrap opera. booking com, ebay, surfeasy. wtf is that??? i don’t visit that shit.. “tiles with your most popular sites” – read it MY MOST POPULAR SITES.. MYYYYYYYYYY not yours OPERA.. MYYYYYYYYYY and i don’t visit that crap. stop this please. everytime my speed dials disappear.. due to your bugs.. i have again those retarded booking com, billiger de ad craps. i don’t need it. i don’t visit it. so stop adcrapping me with this shit. THANK YOU

UPD: disabled that option again.. because it shows 1-2 links i really visit.. and all the other 9 tiles are your adcraps

    • BK

Hi, thanks for feedback. This was discussed already below, will be fixed in future builds more into the direction as you would expect, stay tuned.

    • Mikolaj Boc

Also, try not to pepper your arguments with excrements.

  • weqe

what this is process “Narzędzie”? http://i.imgur.com/FhXSAIu.png

    • weqe

This seems caused by “Enable experimental Web Platform features” but in chromium 46 everything is ok with this enabled…

  • inDigazzZ

    disableSpeedDialAnimations isn’t working

  • alvin

I don’t know why, in fact, I still wonder why, after many version, opera forbids user to remove or change its default search engine, like yahoo. I want to add yandex search but “y” letter is already occupied by Yahoo so I must use “ya”. And I can’t remove yahoo nor remove its short key while I never use it

    • Aneta Reluga

This is for security reasons. Imagine that some malware would love to modify your default search engine in such a cunning way that you didn’t even notice that, and because of that you lose important data. Opera’s solution makes it impossible to happen, and personally I’m of the opinion that a little inconvenience (a little, I mean it) is well worth it.
By the way – I use doubled letters, e.g. ‘yy’ for youtube and ‘bb’ for bbc. Just easier.

      • alvin

The security you say prevent user to customize the browser in the way they want. Making default search engine unchanged also prevent user add more default search engine, like there are people using ask, about, yandex, baidu, etc as default when they want to search something and with opera, they must use keyword but cannot set its as default search engine. So what if the malware can’t change default but the added-by-user search engine and people who always use ones they added instead of default get the malware?

        • Aneta Reluga

“They added instead” is the key phrase here. Yes, I know that the most secure browser is the uninstalled one, and the most secure computer is the turned-off one, but one really needs to decide where the security is more important and brings huge gain over some minor inconvenience. And people want to – and should – feel safe and secure.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

You want to say, that Opera is the only browser that has security problems with standard search engines? Wow, then we all should use another one!

        • bwat47

other browsers have the same issues with search engine hijacking… Opera is just the only one that locks the defaults from being changed at all as a solution (which I personally don’t agree with either).

      • bwat47

Why not use something like chrome’s solution, where it notifies the user when a third party has modified the settings and gives them a quick button to change it back?

I could understand locking them out as a stopgap until a better solution is implemented, but I’d disagree with it as a permanent solution to this problem.

      • Stanislav Stratil

As I remember, it happend to me. I installed something, and it changed my default search engine in Firefox, and in IE… but it was waaaaay in the past.

From that time, it never happened to me again in any browser. And btw, it really wasnt SO BIG A PROBLEM, just change it back. But it is A BIG PROBLEM if we cant change it.

They are still saying “for security reasons” but it seems to me, they just dont wanna allow us to change it for some reason. And search engine management, is one of the most important parts in browser for me.

      • Nekomajin43

Your argument is valid, regarding the shortcuts. But what about setting custom search engines as the default in the address bar?

  • Miranda Kardinal

When will bookmarks folder within folder synchro be fixed? Most time it works only one way and not even then sometimes.

  • LoverOfLife

Hi, sorry for this silly question here. Is there any way to open bookmarks and dials with left click in background tab ? Or extension maybe ? Thanks!

    • Stanislav Stratil

      ctrl+left click

    • L33t4opera

Hi, you can use the middle mouse, to open a link in a new tab in the background.

      • LoverOfLife

Evidently, i knew that for a long time, but for me (and for sure not the only one) is uncomfortable or inconvenient to click the wheel. Other solution ? (Even.. i think there isn’t) Thank you anyway!

        • Herr Pietrus

          Neater Bookmarks extension for Chrome

          • LoverOfLife

Not working as i want, dials can’t be opened in background tab with left click

          • Herr Pietrus

Sorry, I was convinced that it has also such option 🙂 Personally I never use that… I mean – I’ve got used to using ctrl key – in the old Opera, as I remember, opening bookmarks in the background was possible 😛

          • LoverOfLife

It’s ok 🙂 Exactly, in old Opera it was possible.. he he, long time users knows that 😀

        • L33t4opera

For the bookmarks on the SD page, you can also use the mouse gesture: hold right mouse, and move down, then up (make sure, that you ticked on the checkbox for “Enable mouse gestures” under the Settings > Shortcuts).

  • LcGuedes

The opera is getting better . I just think it’s time to focus on the reduction of memory consumption , yet very high. And it is very much needed the ” nickname ” the old opera 12. Congratulations to the Opera team that has excelled to do our best browser of all time .

  • flotsam

Logging in to espn.com does not work. This has been an issue since the 12.x days at least. When I try I get the login prompt and can enter my credentials. But when I click “Log In” the username/password fields just refresh and display as blank. If I purposely enter incorrect credentials it shows the expected error, so I know when I’m entering them correctly – Opera just doesn’t do anything.

  • Tolomer

Not sure if this is just me, but since updating all my tabs crash once I click away from them, the browser is now completely unusable…

EDIT: turning off tab previews fixed the issue.

  • mikey20333

massive problems and freezes with this website http://www.mtb-news.de. i used the latest developer version 34.
also very very slow andpoor performance when you open an articel for example
    http://www.mtb-news.de/news/2015/09/25/cannondale-trigger-27-5-carbon-2-im-dauertest-zwischenbericht/

with internet explorer on surface 2 pro and windows 8.1 the surfing and scrolling is smoother and no freeze on tjis website.

    • helsten2

      Hmm, works fine here …

      Win7x64

    • Vux777

      same as @holsten2
win7 x64, works fine with both pages and scrolling is smooth, no freezing of any kind

  • All Youtube video crashes Opera 34 on WinXP/32. Can anybody confirm this?

    • Dave-H

Yes, useless here too, crashes on every page even with plugins disabled!

    • L33t4opera

Hi Vinczej, @disqus_aAd5KY1w8g:disqus, it looks like, that the PPAPI Flash plug-in is the culprit of crashes in both cases: on the magyaropera.blog.hu (as you mentioned here), and youtube.com (I tested this using two version: 19.0.0.185, and 19.0.0.201 beta) – when I disable it in opera:plugins, then in my case, no more crashes on these websites.

      • Dave-H

I thought that too, but unfortunately disabling the plugin makes no difference for me, every page on YouTube still crashes. In fact they still crash even if I disable all plugins!
I don’t have any extensions installed, so it can’t be that either.

        • L33t4opera

Hi Dave, have you tried to clear the cache, and restart the Opera, as well? If this still doesn’t help, then you can disable the use of the GPU, and see, if it helps in your case.

On the other hand, one of the custom settings in the flags, can also be the culprit of the crash – you can try to launch the Opera with the switch, as follows:"pathtolauncher.exe" --no-experiments, and check if it helps.

          • Dave-H

Well I’ve tried all that. Running with no experiments, disabling hardware acceleration, clearing the cache and the YouTube cookies. Still crashes on every video page, with or without plugins enabled! The browser itself isn’t crashing, it’s just putting up a message that the page has crashed, and offering to reload it. On reload it immediately crashes again of course! 🙁

          • Lacedaemon

Dev stream is more problematic than it used to be before, I ‘d suggest you use the beta stream, except you use it only for testing.

          • Dave-H

Yes, it still crashes with a clean profile. 🙁
I’m not actually too worried about this, as I don’t use Opera Developer as my main browser, but it is a bit of a puzzle.
I’ll wait and see if it’s fixed in the next update.
Do we know if this is something that’s only happening on XP installations?

          • Lacedaemon

Well I’ve tried it on a Vistax32 machine and a 7×64 one and didn’t have any problems.

          • Aneta Reluga

            Yes, it’s XP only.

          • L33t4opera

Does the problem still occurs, if you use a new, clean profile?

      • I’ve tried on Win7/64, and isn’t problem with Youtube or magyaropera.blog.

      • Dave-H

Disabling the PPAPI Flash plugin, or even uninstalling it altogether, makes no difference here!
Looking at the YouTube pages just before they crash, it looks as if it’s trying to use the HTML5 player anyway, not Flash, even when the Flash Plugin is installed and enabled, so I think it’s the HTML5 player that’s actually crashing the pages, not the Flash plugin.
I tried to see if I could tell YouTube not to use HTML5, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that any more like there used to be!
        🙁

        • You have right! If I block Youtube HTML5 playing ( https://addons.opera.com/hu/extensions/details/disable-youtubetm-html5-player/?display=en ), forced to play with Flash Player, I can play videos. 🙂

But this doesn’t solves the problem with magyaropera.blog. 🙁

          • Dave-H

Well it’s good to have it confirmed that it is indeed HTML5 that’s crashing the YouTube pages, not Flash!
Having to install an extension to disable HTML5 is a bit of a pain, but I guess it’s now the only way.
As I said earlier, Opera Developer isn’t my primary browser anyway, so I’ll just wait for it to be fixed!

          • L33t4opera

I am glad, that you were able to find a workaround for the issue 😉

There is also another way, to force the use of Flash plugin on Youtube: you need to change the UA string, to the following:Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:39.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/39.0For that purpose, you can use the “DomainUserAgent” extension, which allows you to change the UA for a specific domain.

        • L33t4opera

In my case, the problem seems to be a little more complex: if I disable the Flash plug-in on one of my PCs, the crash does not occur, while on another desktop (also running XP), it does not help (I managed to get around this, by blocking the HTML5 player) – perhaps the occurrence of the issue depends on that, whether you have installed a library to handle H264, or not.

  • Jaiba Mon

I wonder when you will add smooth scrolling. It’s already available for Chromium.

    • Stanislav Stratil

Sadly, I dont think they will add it… but you can install extension for it.

    • bwat47

when chromium enables it by default opera will have it (once it updates to that version of chromium). in the meantime you can add –enable-smooth-scrolling to your opera shortcut to enable the chromium smooth scrolling flag.

      • Bogdan Sokolov

Thank you very much for this useful advice! Finally i have a smooth scroll feature without any need of using buggy extensions.

Is this the project where they borrow Microsoft’s API? Hope so, because Microsoft has the best smooth scrolling of all browsers in my opinion. I’m going to assume it is, looking forward to it.

        • bwat47

I believe you’re referring to implementing the pointer events api which should help with scrolling jank on touch/android, but that’s different from desktop smooth scrolling.

This is the relevant bug regarding smooth scrolling implementation for chromium on windows/linux: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=575

          • SuperTommy

Ah, thanks. I haven’t researched it too much, only read a snippet of it a while back. I’ll keep an eye on that Chromium task.

          • Mikolaj Boc
      • Der Herr Nick

Thanks a bunch! This is really heplful!

    • Lacedaemon

As an option though, personally, smooth scrolling makes me dizzy.

  • Сергей Кузнецов

Didn’t manage to read everything, but now the next step I wish (a) the ability to manually add sites to the suggestions, (b) also being able to fix favorite suggestions, (c) when I type address of web site and in the history there is a page for that site, I want that in suggestions was the main page of that site, not the page from history, this is useful for news sites, where you mainly start from home page.

  • jzyken

It will be cool to have a function in addressfield like a punto switcher.

  • Hylian Ticipated

Looks like I’m stuck on 32. I’m not gonna bother asking if this build has the forced sync ui clutter and tab menu clutter, because I’m pretty sure it does.

It’s a shame. After all this time, Opera is still not delivering what needs to be done, and I’m hesitant to upgrade at the same time.

    Forget it.

  • 7thGear

Guys, why doesn’t Opera 32 work with flash 19? 🙁

  • ouzowtf

How can I disable those “extra” mouse gestures I accidentally do when I rightclick+down to actually only open a new blank tab, but Opera opens a new page, because I started my gesture unintentional on a small link text or a picture with a link?

Some builds ago there was at least an “experimental” flag for it. But its gone and this behavior makes me angry every time. Seems you dont want to make your users to like the gesture feature…

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Mouse gestures can be disable in Settings (Shortcuts section).

      • Vux777

he is referring to extra gestures
        open link with RC down/up

        • ouzowtf

Exactly. I love mouse gestures (actually I only use “open new tab” and “close tab”), but if I want to open a new (blank) tab and have to check where I start my gesture makes the whole system absolutely counterproductive. In that time I could use the [+] in the tab bar instead.

          • Vux777

yea, I was complaining about it couple of times

            …but to no avail

          • ouzowtf

            🙁

  • kapsi

Also please add an option to view saved passwords. This is useful if you need to enter a password in an app on the phone, or need to enter it for some kind of nonstandard field on a web page.

    • Lacedaemon

eh what? You can view them in the settings page by clicking “Show”

      • kapsi

        THanks, I missed that.

  • Der Herr Nick

Bug or intended? The new addressfield suggestion thingy only works when I click by mouse, not by touchscreen.

    • Aneta Reluga

Thanks, confirmed and reported into the database.

      • Der Herr Nick

        Thanks, Aneta!

  • Andres

this version is unusable, all pages open with “open link in a new tab” crashes and when a shift of tab also crash the tab well open previously

    • Aneta Reluga

      Hi, are you using WinXP?

      • Andres

Im not sure what couse it is, but it sure suffer a memory leak… – was running on 99.89% (system normaly uses about 20-40% high workload) constantly for a few minutes until i accesed taskmanager and got it shut down. win10x64, latest opera 34 12GB memory

  • ruaman

Dear Opera, what happened to your tab-hibernation option under flugs. It seems to be missing. I’ve always had tab-hibernation on to reduce RAM usage. Since last build, I can’t use Opera anymore, as my tabs are hibenating as soon as it gets defocused (even for a second), which extemely annoying.
Also, the spell checking option idoesn’t seem to be working. I have English (USA) istalled.

I’ve unistalled and installed Opera, but still facing the same issue.
    Wind 10 x64 (Windows Insider build 10547)

  • kabforks

I try to turn of Tab Preview to prevent crash. The settings has no effect at all, and the previews are shown anyway. Constant crashes. Constant. I CTRL TAB 1000 a day.

  • raphah

facebook videos are playing about 30% then stop

  • raphah

facebook videos are not working fine
    win 10 x64

    interesting option – works quite good:) @ Win10 x64, Opera Dev 34.0.1996.0, notebook ASUSUL30A 4GB RAM. Intel Core 2 Duo U7300 @1.3 GHz

  • soularav

Dear opera developers it will be great if you could give us a solution for
flash installation for us we use opera portable and we don’t have
    administrator rights.
    Thank you.

  • taneli

Let’s try this another way then.

Among other pages, Facebook gets all silly when you scroll even a little, the friends list renders empty while scrolling, never comes back.
And open chat popups render empty too. (this all with no extensions).

Also, when opening links from a page to background tab, breaks extensions on that page, where it was opened (like Stylish and µBlock), also, pressing the “home” key or “page up” key breaks the extensions.

Last time i mentioned this, i was threatened with a ban, if i mention this again, so, sorry if you guys don’t like to hear about bugs but… yeah.

    Win8.1 x64 34.0.1996.0

PS. Yes the rendering problem happens with all extensions disabled.

Edit before ban: FB and all other pages are still working fine on Chrome and Vivaldi (the only Chromium based browsers i have atm.).

    • Vux777

I don’t experience any of those problems on win7 x64
      (and with 16 extensions enabled)
…but then again, with every update, I do clean USB install, transferring only bookmarks, logins, favicons and sometimes cookies

  • Igor007

This page doesn’t work in latest opera versions https://net.pbz.hr/pbz365/logonForm.htm

EDIT: It works now, last time in firefox it worked but opera couldn’t open the page. strange.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

You mean the internal server error? I see the same content in Opera as well as in Google Chrome and Firefox. W10x64.

  • Matheus Bitencourt

For the God’s sake, BRING BACK THE TAB STACKING FEATURE!

    • Ralf Brinkmann

And? What do you learn? There is no God!

      • Matheus Bitencourt

I know there’s no god. No Tab Stacking too 🙁

  • sales

Why can’t we have smooth scrolling in Opera? Is it really that much of a hassle to fix? Is it too much to ask for? I mean are you capable of implementing it? Why have you not done so?

    • ayespy

Google’s been working on it for a couple of years. So, maybe, yeah.

    • Lacedaemon

Obviously they are not capable of implementing it, because they are dependent on Google. But personally, I don’t need it.

      • sales

smooth scrolling? I don’t understand. I am not an expert. I just asked a question. If there is anything obvious please forgive me as I am not a tech expert.

        • Lacedaemon

yes, smooth scrolling. You can try enabling a switch in your shortcut path, and see if you are satisfied with it. Add –enable-smooth-scrolling in your shortcut path (target).

          • sales

Sorry. Like I said I am no tech expert. What switch? What shortcut path? Where do I find this switch? Earlier you said they were not capable of implementing it. I am confused.

          • Lacedaemon
          • sales

What are you referring to? This..Open the properties of Opera shortcut at task bar, desktop, start menu, wherever you start it from. Under target, at the very end after launcher.exe, add –enable-smooth-scrolling. And please let us know if it works for you.

I don’t have Opera in my Start Menu. There is no “TARGET” I am using Opera 32

          • Vux777

it is a chromium feature, not finished yet
chromiums support so called “command line switches”
you need to have shortcut somewhere and add to it’s target
            –enable-smooth-scrolling (add space first)

            example

          • sales

Fantastic! Thanks so much for the instructions. It works much better now! I salute you Vux777

I can’t understand why it should be so complicated though. Is it not in their best interest to have this as a default?

          • Vux777

it doesn’t work on all pages, and sometimes gets broken on pages that was working… after long scrolling
            not finished

  • L33t4opera

New build for the Opera developer – 34.0.2011.0, and the change log 😉

    • Vux777

finally sidebar is persistent trough sessions even if “open the start page” is checked

  • Opera Developer is on 34.x, but the stable build is still on 32.x?
It’s 2 Chromium versions out of date, when are we getting an update?

  • Serge

I am entering Latvian letters for example ā ū ļ in the address bar when searching for stuff, and Opera 34.0.2023.0 does not accept them anymore. Wasn’t a problem with previous version.

  • Serge

That is the fastest software fix I’ve seen in years. Many thanks, fixed in 34.0.2026.0!

  • Luis Rosario

1- Search box @Speed dial lost target when pressed Home+End Keys. (Bug?)
2- Extra Suggestions site must be editable like speed dial.
3- Bring back content blocker like opera 12.17 ‘cuz adblock extension make opera unstable. (ram out of control)
4- Bring back internal proxy settings like opera 12.17.

    • Andrea Stasi

      pls return opera 12.17!

  • Mikael

    Please make ‘Extra Suggestions’ editable

  • Troy Ounce

I deleted/downloaded Opera 33 three times after it informed me that it is “out of memory”. In the meantime Opera 34 came available which just not wants to open. What is going on? Grrrr…
