Cyber Monday: Your 3-step guide to safe shopping

Cyber Monday is around the corner and I’m sure you are getting excited about the special deals and offers, just like me. But, do you know who else is getting excited? Cyber criminals.

The fact is: the probability of being hacked is higher for those not taking any measures to protect themselves online. This is an example.

So, what can you do to protect yourself on the web? Here are my three essential tips to help you stay out of trouble:

1. Update your apps

It goes without saying but updates are fundamental to keeping your devices and any transactions you make online secure. Each new release brings fixes to potential security holes. Make sure to enable auto updates, so you don’t fall behind.

2. Look for the green, locked padlock icon

Located in the address field of your browser, this icon or “security badge” shows that a website meets strict security standards. If it’s not there, don’t buy from that online shop; the transaction could expose your personal data and credit card information.

3. Check customer reviews

Cyber Monday is all about finding good deals. But, if the deal’s too good to be true, it probably is. Make sure the deal comes from a real retailer. Check their address, customer reviews and their terms and conditions before you buy.

Online shopping should be fun and make your life easier. With these simple tips you can stay safe while you shop on the go. 🙂
