Let’s start the new week with the fresh Opera Next build. It’s not as exciting as the last week updates on our Developer channel, but it brings several fixes that will increase the stability of our browser. Among changes there are some crashers fixed and improved translations. For the detailed list of issues head on to the changelog. Have fun testing!

Hi Marcin, thanks for the info about the update, and several fixes 😉

  • Thx

  • oCircuit

The coloring of the heart feels clumsy (: Why the heartbeat animation gone ?

  • Stan Kay

It looks like Forefox have started to steal Opera’s thunder. Look here at what they offer and Version 30 is very slick.

Marcin, the guys need to up the anti or Firefox will rule the roost!

  • Can’t see my country in discover news tab (Brazil). Works all fine on final channel (22.0.1471.70).

    • Sidney Moraes

I do not have my country (Brazil) in Opera for Android.

      • Leonardo Gomes

Try reporting it on the mobile team blog.
Btw, no problems here too. Brazil is set by default.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      No problems here.

      • Really? In this new build? (23.0.1522.28 ) Pretty weird.

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Yep, in 1522.28.

      • Rinne Tensei

        I don’t have brazil

    • We had some server problems, but Brazil (and Indonesia) is back now. The Desktop client only checks countries once a week, though. (This is why others don’t see anything missing—their browser simply updated the country list before the error occurred.) I think there is a way to force a refetch, so you don’t have to wait for a week. I’ll ask around.

      • p01

There are two ways, one is to change the location or language in your Operating System settings, the other is to go to Discover, open the Developer Tools ( Ctrl + Shift + I or Cmd + Shift + I ), and delete the Local Storage data of Discover.

        Hope that helps,

      • Lacedaemon

How about some other countries in the… European continent as well? Like Hellas (Greece) for example? How are you going to penetrate to the market more if your casual users won’t find anything in their language? Or are you snubbing Greece? I hope not.

        • Greece is not currently supported, as opposed to Brazil and Indonesia, they disappeared due to the bug. Don’t take it personally, there are also 160 others countries we aren’t ready for yet. 🙂

          • Lacedaemon

Yeah but Greece is not “some random country in the world”, besides being a European one, isn’t Europe where your base of operations is also? 🙂

  • Tommy

And how about fixing the permanent “Loading…” tab problem and large memory usage with multiple tabs opened? Isn’t 2.5 GB of RAM too much for a webbrowser?

    • Onaj Tamo

confirming the permanent loading on Linux.

    • alayli

Why you are having concerns about RAM usage? Are you storing your files in it? RAM is temprary memory, using it doesn’t makes wear off. It’s main purpose using it. If you have “3 gb ram, 5 years old computer”, undo my words.

      • Tommy

Just open 30-40 tabs in Opera and you’ll know what I’m writing about. It’s pure nonsense when a WEBBROWSER is able to use all the remaining system’s memory.

  • newto

The little previews of Opera 12 are better than the new tab obstructive preview ( The animations are faster too ).
    Btw, congratulations on Linux support.

    • bwat47

The problem with the tiny thumbnails though is that you can’t see very many details of the page, so multiple tabs with different pages of the same site are hard to differentiate from each other.

      • Alex Parker

If I will want to see “very many details on the page”, I will switch to it, thank you very much.

        • Rafael Luik

You don’t get the point of the previews do you?

        • Guest

If the preview is so small that you can’t see details, than what is the point of even having a preview, rather than just a tooltip?

    • zhnujm

      I agree with that.
IMHO the preview was most useful with tab stacking.
And in the current form its faster to click on the tab rather than wait for the preview.
      But nice bling bling.

      • zhnujm

After thinking about it… wouldnt it be much easier to just switch to the tab while hovering instead of creating a preview nearly the size of the complete tab ?
You cant see anything in the actual tab while the preview is on anyway.

        • Vux777

good point…maybe mouse scroll on tabs bar would be better feature than tab preview
after initial “cool” effect, I turned it off…
I actually don’t need it all the time, and rarely when I do, switching tabs is much quicker

    • YemSalat

When you have a lot of tabs open the bigger previews make much more sense then small ones.

And in your example above – do you really need previews when you have very few tabs open?

I like the idea of smaller previews, but rather not O12 style, would be great to have them similar to big previews but in a form of a “tooltip” box that appears when you hover over tabs.

      • Alex Parker

I don’t need this epileptic joy when I hover through tons of tabs and my screens flashes all colors of the rainbow.

        • YemSalat

I agree that there should be an option to disable the previews.

    • Alex Parker

I agree with that as well. Gonna be waiting for them to introduce small, not page-obstructive previews again. Likely never gonna happen, but I’ll keep waiting.

    • Yes they could add both features and let the user decide what they like ? 🙂

    • p01

If you want to draw a parallel between Opera 12 and 24, Opera 24’s Tab Previews bigger and more focused version of Opera 12’s showing thumbnail when hovering Tabs.

    • Lacedaemon

Agreed, Opera devs must not in the slightest forget what we all know, that

      visual tabs >>>>> tabs previews

They are obviously coming too, isn’t that Opera, or do we need a confirmation/clarification also on this? Cause about your HTML Mail from myopera you have kept silence which is pretty dissapointing so far.

  • Høst

This is not a bug of Opera Next. It’s of opera-developer. When running in Ubuntu 14.04 x64, with cairo-dock I can’t see that opera is running, unlike the older opera or any other application (please note that I’m running banshee and it has a blue circle around the icon in the screenshot). Chromium/Maxthon doesn’t have this issue.

  • romath

No Print Preview = no print. Why?
    – Print box only allows “All,” so no way of knowing how many pages and how formatting in advance
    – No Print Options, so can’t know or see effect
    – Many web pages don’t format the way one hopes –> wasted paper

  • Nashuim

Argh! This update still didn’t fix Auto-Hide taskbar on Windows.

  • Joana Silva

Thanks, I expect that Opera 23 stable will be released soon. 😉

  • AlexBrtn

  • AlexBrtn

protocol http & https work 🙂

  • Alex Parker

I just got SurfVox hijacker in my Opera browser. It replaces your start page and makes settings not apply at all. Reinstallation does not help. Turns out this specific type of hijacker targets Google Chrome browser.

NOOOOOOOOOW I see the point of using Chromium! So we can collect Chrome’s hijackers! THANKS OPERA!

That is exactly what I missed from Opera 12!

  • I very clearly entered http://www.fayerwayer.com, not http://www.fayerwayer.comhttp. I said it before, make sure everything works, avoid another fiasco.

Update: I disabled ZenMate and it worked.

  • Sidney Moraes

Sometimes the page blinks and turns to black.

    • blackcoder

      Same here with Opera 22.

  • Strange bug when loading a bunch of windows with tabs

I have it set to delay of loading tabs until activate( the active tab is a tab in the middle), but this build it loads that tabs and seems to load the far left tab (background tab) also as it has a spinning icon indicating loading

    OS X 10.9.4

  • YemSalat

Opera 23.0.1522.28 crashes videos on youtube (Win 7/x64)
The video starts playing, then after a few seconds it crashes.
I can see the following line in the console:
Opera has modified script or content on http://www.youtube.com (PATCH-1164, YouTube force Flash player for HTML5 content). See browser.js for details

  • Bjarne Bertelsen

Synced bookmarks (and other things) between Mac – Windows – ios – android = Google Chrome!!! Goodbye Opera, we’ve waited long enough.
