    Hi Opera team,

this is the second time I am having issues with the auto-update. Once the update has been downloaded I click on the “Relaunch now” button, the browser relaunches with the old build and starts downloading the update again. The workaround is to quit the browser once the “Relaunch now” button appears and then start it again. After this the update is applied. I am running OSX 10.11.4.

    • RafaellaG

      Seems a bug.
Here it doesn’t start the update a second time but I have to click the “relaunch now” button twice (Win10 x64).

      @Kornelia: Please check this.

    • Kornelia

Hi Deyan, I had this issue sometimes but on older OS. Not happened for me on 10.11 so far. Anyway I’ll report you issue and we’ll take a closer look at this. Thanks.

      • mies

Reproduced on Windows 7 x64. I had to press Relaunch button again after first browser relaunch. Only after second relaunch I got the latest version.

        • A work around I have found is to wait a few minutes before clicking relaunch

      • I get it a lot in my Windows VMs, recently click the relaunch button to soon and it fails to update (needs a pause for the update (seen on Win 7, 8.1, 10) seems the GUI is running faster than the updating code

I found the similar bug on OS X 10.11.4 where it refuses to relaunching as some process is preventing Opera from restarting (seems to be a Chromium bug with a lot of tabs & windows open reproduced since Opera 32)

  • L33t4opera

Hi Kornelia, thanks for the update and fixes 😉

The url to the blog post in the change log is wrong.

    • Kornelia

      Thanks, fixed.

Need a maximize button in video-popUp window, for 60fps on the second monitor.

  • Артем Чепурко

    Ждём бету 🙂

We look forward to the beta 🙂

  • Laurent Bauer

    Hi, Kornelia,
thanks for the update. I wondered if Opera had an automatic auto-update silent mechanism. Would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and how about enabling GMail Checker Plus ? I still have to keep an eye on Chrome just for that function…

    • Gordon Freeman

If you install the Opera extension “Download Chrome Extension”
you can install every Extension from “Chrome Web Store”.
      Also Checker Plus for Gmail™

      • Gustav Ekner

Not every, there are several parts of the API that are not supported in Opera. But many of them can you install.

        • Laurent Bauer

Yes, Gustav, the service was uneffective the way it works in Chrome.
Guess I will go on checking my Checker outside my Opera window.

      • Laurent Bauer

        Thanks for your reply.
I tried it already and it didn’t work well.
I ‘d appreciate a native Opera Google Checker Plus in a future version.

        • ultraviolet

          this extension is much better:

          http://add0n.com/gmail-notifier.html

          • Laurent Bauer

Thanks, I will compare them and choose.

            Best regards.

          • Laurent Bauer

            Good morning, found this extension,
perfectible but nice for me :
            Inbox by Gmail Checker.

      • Laurent Bauer

I installed it like you said.
Already received a mail that way, hope it will continue to work.
But I still don’t have my Inbox on opera, is there any chance in the future ?
        Thanks again.

PS : I can access Inbox in Opera !
Till lately, it was not possible, wow ! Did you fix this issue in the recent update ?
        Thanks again !

    • Tommy Wille

It does have an automatic update. But they release it in cycles, meaning it might be a day or two before it updates. When it has, it will prompt you via the O-menu to restart the browser if you haven’t done so in a while.

      • Laurent Bauer

        Thank you for your reply.
Miss series like Mac Gyver too ?
Well, that’s a beginning but I want more (and I guess I’m not the only one) : a browser that upsates itself without having to restart it.
Don’t know if it’s technically possible, though.

        • Tommy Wille

I definitely miss MacGyver, my childhood hero.

That would be great, but I can’t see it being achievable. You can’t modify a process that is currently running in memory, as it has already loaded how Opera was before update. Plus there’s write protections for security. It’s got nothing to do with Opera in itself though, but OS and how current day memory works. But that’s where innovations come in. 🙂

          • Laurent Bauer

I thought so, thanks for your reply.
Let’s hope a genius will implement this technical revolution, one day…
Thanks to all of you, Opera team, always there to answer people in doubt. I can’t wait for version 38 stable and its free VPN.

    36.x installs fine.
Have you dropped support of XP/2003 in 37.x?
Where to look for minimum system requirements?

    • Marko Koivuniemi
      • Alex Wazovskiy

Developers should add to installer a message that warns user when he tries to run Opera 37+ on XP and Vista, instead of weird errors.

      • IlyaS

I’m disappointed that Opera followed Google move last year and removed XP support. You’d made it even bitter without proper notification beforehand.

        • Tommy Wille

All major browsers will do or have done this already. Including Mozilla and Vivaldi. You’ll have to go with some Mozilla forks if you refuse to upgrade from XP.

          • IlyaS

Latest Firefox ESR 46.0.1 states XP SP2 as minimum requirement https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/46.0.1/system-requirements/
Sorry, your comment is a little bit out of touch.

          • Tommy Wille

“All major browsers will do or have done this already.”

          • IlyaS

All people will die including you and me. And what?

          • Mikolaj Boc

            Oh come on. 😀

    • marcelo.ar

Opera 36 is still supported on xp and vista. Opera devs “are still going to provide security and crash fixes to XP and Vista platform”, you can download it here:
      http://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera-winxpvista/36.0.2130.75/win/

      • IlyaS

Can’t you see the problem? All such changes as dropping older OS means delivering proper message long beforehand the event to give users time to adapt. The only release notes stating dropping XP and Vista http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/unified/3700/ has been published 2016-05-04. Nothing in blog posts or changelog, just complete utter silence!

What has happened to me? I’ve tried installing 1st 37.0.2178.32 release remotely to a mixture of XP & Win7 workstations. Guess what? Error on XP didn’t surfaced and I didn’t noticed that installed version hasn’t changed. After trying installing 37.0.2178.43 release same way it has become clear that something is wrong.

Opera dev team, why didn’t you communicate loudly and clearly your plans to give us time to migrate and adapt?

How long do you intend to support 36.x?

        • Leonardo Gomes

They posted about dropping support for XP/Vista in first blog post about Opera 37:

          http://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2016/02/initial-opera-developer-37-release/

Also, by the time Microsoft announces the end of support for a Windows version, those using it should start preparing to face such issues.

          • IlyaS

Does that note on developer version blog post mean that “end of support” message was communicated properly?
            It is obviously not.

Existing Opera system requirements page https://www.opera.com/download/requirements/doesn't bear useful message too – for Opera 23 Windows 7 is recommended. What? Where is only 36.x for Vista/XP and 37.x for Windows 7+?

            Again:
            1) no any note in blog posts/changelog for stable releases 36.x/37.x that support for XP will be dropped
            2) 37.x installer fails without meaningful message if run interactively
            3) 37.x installer fails silently if run remotely via psexec

          • Leonardo Gomes

I was just pointing that there was a reference on the subject on the blog, contrary to what you said.

And you see, since Opera 23 it is recommended to use Windows 7 or later. So XP/Vista users should be looking for an OS update since then.

They should be looking for it since April 2014 when Microsoft ended support for that OS.

          • Nekomajin43

I think IlyaS is right. It’s not about the dropping of support. It’s about the communication. BTW they did the same with the NPAPI plugins..,

          • Leonardo Gomes

Maybe, but even if Opera had made an announcement about it there would be a lot of people complaining that weren’t warned.

          • Nekomajin43

There are several useless posts in the News section of the blog. This one would make sense at least.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Right, but the point is that even so there still would have lots of people complaining and saying “but i don’t read that blog”.

          • Nekomajin43

But probably less of those lot.

Why would you ever open About page in minimum sized window? Just maximize the window and no problem at all.

  • redfox

I really miss a bookmark autosort function, like in O12.
It is really annoying to click each bookmarked folder by right mouse and sort it again and again manually. Even a plugin does not exist.

  • albert71292

The built in adblocker, in every version, has an issue with videos on CBS.com. Even with the site whitelisted, and the adblocker turned off, CBS won’t play videos, popping up a notice to turn the adblocker off, even though it IS off. Disabled the built in adblocker, went back to Ublock Origin. Works fine now.

  • kesha2000

Is everyone having a bug, where trying to resize pop out video first time after browser restart just moves the window instead? Steps:
    1. Restart Opera.
    2. Open pop out in any youtube video.
    3. Try to resize pop out window.

    • Nekomajin43

I had something like this. But then it worked for the second try.

  • Denyer

Tabs on the left, maybe? Anyone? :'(

    • Leonardo Gomes

I would like to see it.

  • Drake Xiang

    Can we customize adblock rules?

    • Jozka Jozin

      Own rules to detect ads?

      • Drake Xiang

Yes, I found some annoying ads remain showing and I don’t see an option for us to add rules to block them

    • RafaellaG

With the next Opera stable (38) you can add custom filter lists like the ones you found here https://easylist.github.io/ .

      • Kai Ockendorf

How can I download the lists to add them? I found to view them or to add them to an Adblocker! Btw, I’m on O38 Dev & I’m also having Adguard & uBlock Origin installed! W10x64 O38 64bit

        • RafaellaG

For O38 Dev you’ll have to download and include/update the filter lists manually – for now. The filter lists are normal text files. You’ll have to save them somewhere and add them to Block Ads – custom block lists in settings.
Use the link provided in my last post and click on “View … ” (the filterlist you want to use). Then save the list (OMenu – Page – Save as…) .

          • Kai Ockendorf

            Thank you 🙂

            Hi,

            running Windows 10 a xeon 1231 and GTX 670 16gb rams

it does not depend on the site. I click on Fullscreen and the browser Starts freezing with a black window. I get repeated messages about a plugin that slows down the PC. After a while like 10-15 seconds Fullscreen works and the video runs faster at the start.

Strangely it works 100% fine on my second Monitor. Never had a Problem before… And it works on Chrome and IE with no Problem at all.

I am getting flickering youtube videos in 37.0.2178.43 (started happening with all 37 version). It’s like a few frames of the video are on repeat while another frame also flashes on top and it never stops. Doesn’t happen on other browsers and restarting opera doesn’t fix the problem. It is only fixed with a computer restart, until it starts happening again. I tried cleaning youtube cookies and the cache, but it didn’t help. (Windows 8)

    • Any extensions?

      • Madao

The only extension I have installed is surf easy.

        • The other thing to check is if there is an update for the graphics card driver (one way is to check Windows Updates)

When will be a update to linux 64bit?

I see the import/export feature has been removed in the version 37.0.2178.32 and why?

          • Leonardo Gomes

Well, people from Opera most probably will not reply to every comment in this blog, it would be kinda difficult.

Regarding FB videos, i’m not facing major issues playing them as i said so it may be OS related or even not be an Opera issue.

Am I vulnerable against these security flaws.. because lates Opera stable based on 50.0.2661.87 and Chromium 50.0.2661.102 came with 5 security fixes.
    CVE-2016-1667
    CVE-2016-1668
    CVE-2016-1669
    CVE-2016-1670
    CVE-2016-1671

Please release a hotfix for these security fixes. Thanks.

    • Aneta Reluga

Thanks, forwarded it to deal with it.

      • yigido

Yeah.. thanks. Chrome got updated to chromium 51 code base. You are far behind.. Keep it up!

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Chromium 51 is Opera 38.

          • yigido

I am talking about Opera stable.. you told me “Opera 38 Beta”.. I just want that quick updates for stable channel for security fixes. Google patched 42 serious security flaw in Chrome 51. What about Opera stable? We are still vulnerable against 5 + 42 = 47 security holes..
For Beta & Dev users, are already accepted the harm on their PC, because they are test releases, not written on stone, Opera should release “a stable, secure, fast” release of Opera browser ASAP..

          • Leonardo Gomes

What i mean is that usually each version of Opera is based on a version of Chromium. So you probably you won’t see Chromium 51 in Opera 37.

There are probably lots of work that needs to be done before a Chromium intake is able to be included on a new build. So depending on the release schedule, i guess it’s easier to wait for the next version to come out than update the current one.

And you can be sure that they apply all updates as soon as possible, if really needed.

      • yigido

Still no update for us for fixing security issues?? I do not want new features, give me secure and stable browser.
        Thanks

        • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t think there will be any updates on 37. The release of Opera 38 should not be that far.

Opera 37.0.2178.43 crashing after every download. Does not respond.
On Windows 10 | Surface Pro 3 & Surface Pro 4 | NOT on Desktop

    • Any browser extension?

      • Dmitrij D

Yes, though I use the same on Desktop and disabling them does not fix the crashing :/

        • Check if the plug ins are updated

Is it crashing on the same site every time?

          • Dmitrij D

It’s crashing randomly after a download finishes. No matter where the download is from. And as I stated it happens on multiple Computers (my Surface Pro 3 and my gfs Surface Pro 4), however not on both out Desktop computers.

          • Dmitrij D

So it’s not just Downloads. It’s just the fact of something poping up, like the Download List. The Tab menu causes that as well for example.
It’s also happening only 50% of the time.

          • Any difference with the recent update to Opera? http://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2016/05/opera-stable-37-0-2178-54-update/

          • Dmitrij D

Doesn’t seem to fix it :/

          • Any updates for Windows 10 itself?

          • Dmitrij D

Surface Pro 3 on Windows 10 Insider Ring Fast, Surface Pro 4 on regular Windows 10. Both updated everytime an update comes out, both have this problem.

          • Dmitrij D

However I believe it has something to do with using the Surface Pen.

          • So you are using the Surface Pen to interact/control Opera?
