Opera Developer update 23.0.1508.0: The heart menu

Today we update our developer stream to version 23.0.1508.0. As usual it contains a bunch of fixes (check out the full changelog) and some news. You will see some new features which we hope you will like.

The new heart menu

New heart button in Oprea UI We have freshened up our heart. ;) There is a new one on the right side of the address bar.

Now it’s more intuitive; you do not have to “learn” icons, just click on the new heart to open a menu. Try to add your favorite page to any of Stash, Speed Dial or the bookmarks bar and you will see the heartbeat.

Opera Turbo start-up time

When Opera Turbo is enabled, you will now get faster start-up time on slow network connections. Opera Turbo will delay loading of background tabs (“lazy-session loading”) until they are activated. Thus limiting the amount of simultaneous network connections and bandwidth usage when restoring the previous session during start-up. This will load the web page faster and make your browsing much easier.

Delayed loading of background tabs can also be enabled without Opera Turbo from the new “Delay loading of background tabs” option found in the Start-up section in Advanced Settings. The option will always be enabled when using Opera Turbo.

Settings’ new option for delayed loading of backgroud tabs

Insecure content mixed in on secure pages

Insecure content (HTTP) will no longer be loaded on secure pages (HTTPS). Content is of course blocked by default for security purposes. (Pages should not include mixed content!) For backwards compatibility, users can unblock the blocked content. This, however, will be at the expense of the page’s security level which will no longer identified as secure.

Preventing plug-in freezes

Very sad plug-in placeholder
Have you ever had a plug-in crash or freeze on you? Opera will now provide better feedback when deciding to stop a plug-in to recover the browser. For slow responding plug-ins, users can now disable the plug-in or reload the page when needed.

Pepper plug-ins

If you have the Pepper variant of the Adobe Flash Player plug-in installed on your computer, Opera will now prefer PPAPI plug-ins (“Pepper”) to the older NSAPI plug-in (“Netscape”). There are not many PPAPI plug-ins out yet, but they should start to show up soon: and Opera is ready for them.

Known issues

  • Speed Dial extensions are not displayed on Speed Dial

Fixed issues

  • The tab-loading indicator is back in its correct position.

  • Mr. Operaniac

wow! this is a feature should have come much earlier.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

Which of them? Or did you mean to say “these”? ;-)

      • Mr. Operaniac

heart menu, of course……i guess it`s Aura that makes some UI tweaks like this possible, isn`t it? Maybe it`s time to talk about further tweaks like panel or native bookmark manager?

  • Mr. Operaniac

When will we get more information about the progress of some of the most basic feature, such as import bookmarks from other mainstream browsers, or just when will sync be completed?

  • http://ratkutti.wordpress.com Karthikeyan

” the Badge will turn from green locker into gray globe – no more broken locker!” – awesome.

    Pepper flash – Great!

  • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

    Loving the new Heart menu!

  • Wraith

Well the new heart menu will make things easier for adding a page to bookmark bar.. Nice :) !
I still waiting for full syncronization!.

    • Saskatchewan

the new heart menu will make things easier for adding a page to bookmark bar

      • Wraith

lol XD, a lot of time passed and we only have a new heart icon, what do you think!
Na but seriously I only want full sync the heart menu is a little confusing.

  • https://medium.com/@theandrewnguyen Andrew Nguyen

    Awesome stuff!

  • fanboi punisher

“We modified our heart . There is a new one on the right side of the address bar.”

Which is the Opera <12 way. Now at version 23 it seems that you are slowly beginning to understand that not everything in PrestOpera was bad or not well thought out. Time to implement more of this thought from now on.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Oh no… In the era of wide screens, for a reason I fail to understand, you’ve saved one icon placeholder and introduced two clicks per operation instead of one. This, and the reversion of HiDPI fonts in menus, are the worst changes I’ve seen so far. :(

    • Nekomajin42

On one hand, you are right. On the other hand, it is very rare to add the same page to both the SD, the bookmark bar and the stash, so three visible icons are just wasting space.

      • Dmitry Kirin

I’ve got Facebook both on SD, to target it easier in the morning, when I’m still sleeping, and in the bookmark bar, to open it without switching to the SD page.

Apart from that, the heart icon has become ambiguous. It is used both for a menu and Stash now. In menu, it’s always heart, even if the active page is from Stash or bookmarks.

        • Nekomajin42

On the first thing, I said rare.
In the other thing, you are absolutely right. It should be changed.

          • Dmitry Kirin

As Stash is ‘add once, read later or never,’ the icon could be a trash can. Well, and the name too, then. :)

    • http://zettlina.com greench

It is not just give more space. A novice can intuitively find the way of saving a web site without learning name of icons.

      • Dmitry Kirin

It’s natural for toolbar icons: you learn their meaning from floating tooltips. For textual representation, there are context menus.

  • Tiago

Until not implement old features: Opera 12 > New Opera

  • II_ARROWS

    Still waiting for the sidebar…

  • dflyra

The heart menu is good but I would like not to make bookmarks bar visible when adding a bookmark, if I have already decided – in settings – to hide the bar.
Additionally the bookmarks bar is not an alternative to bookmarks manager – I believe it should remain as a ‘favorites’ bar for those who do not use speed-dial that way.

    • Nekomajin42

It is called a bookmark bar in every browser, even in O12.

      • dflyra

Not true! In Opera 12 & FF the ‘favorites’ or ‘bookmarks’ bar did not hold – although it could – all the bookmarks but only those the user deemed as the most frequently used (that’s why the term ‘favorite’).
I had almost 3.000 bookmarks in the bookmarks manager but only about 150 in Opera 12 bookmarks bar. I can live with 150 categorized bookmarks in the speed-dial, but certainly not with all 3.000.

        • Nekomajin42

It is the same in the new Opera. If you open the bookmark file from your profile with a text editor, you will see that there is a section for the bookmarks you want to use on the bookmark bar. If you install any bookmark addon, you will be able to add bookmarks (stored in that bookmark file in your profile) not to the bookmark bar.

          • dflyra

Is this the way a browser must function? Opening profiles with text editors? – this is Jurassic park. Bookmark add-ons lend only a helping hand, they cannot replace a bookmark manager. We need a tab or a panel or something like that to properly open or create bookmark folders, move bookmarks around with the mouse, search & sort bookmarks, extract & copy bookmarks to speed-dial or to the bookmarks bar etc. and, at the same time, to have a spacious & visually clear view of what we are doing. This is how O12 bookmarks manager worked and how a proper bookmarks manager should work! I believe that we need such a bookmarks manager asap! On the other hand, I’m not absolutely sure that I need a bookmarks (i.e. favorites) bar – I can do a lot with the existing speed-dial which is one step ahead of the competition.

          • Nekomajin42

            LOL, read again!

        • Heimen Stoffels

In most browsers I use, I have all my bookmarks on the bookmarks bar. I have a couple of most frequently used ones on the left and then I have two folders: one with news websites and one containing the rest of my (less important) bookmarks.

          • dflyra

Are you new in Opera (I mean since Opera chromium) or you were using the same method in Opera presto (which had a complete & state-of-the-art bookmarks manager)?
To tell you the honest truth, I don’t care about bookmarks bar – I have been accustomed to speed-dial usage instead of the ‘favorites’ bar, but I desperately need a bookmarks manager.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Just noticed: in the SD editing dialog popup, if the SD is within a folder, Home and End do not work and make the textboxes lose focus. If the SD is not within a folder, i.e. root-level, it works fine.

Also, in the same editing popup, action buttons are sticking outside the dialog boundaries.

    • Vux777

I can confirm for home and end, but not for buttons

  • ma_t14

Anyone else having a problem with the Facebook Speed Dial and Alarm Speed Dial not showing properly?

  • Nekomajin42

I love the heart icon. However, Dmitry is right about the confusing choice. Stash should get a new icon. And the hover effect in the heart bubble is very poor. Something similar to the context menu hover would be good.

    Another stuff:
There’s been a mistranslated hungarian string in the settings for month. The power user settings enable/disable label is totally meaningless.

    Yet another stuff:
Will you make the turbo settings customizable under the advanced or power user settings? I know the security concerns, but there was a request of private sessions with turbo, and now the lazy loading.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

We are aware of the issue with the two icons. Please report the string issue as a bug. (Include the string!)

      • Nekomajin42

        Done, thanks.

  • André Kittler

I follow this blog in the hope, on every new version, that some of the remaining Opera 12 features will appear.
This is a real question, not sarcasm: should I still follow it? Is there any hope for me or is it over?

    • Piotr Karol Marek Żółtowski

      There’s no hope, I guess.

      • André Kittler

After 24h and no response yes, I guess you are right.
Long live the new… Opera? I cant handle it anymore!!! Firefox was never at the (old) Opera level, and please, Crome is crap, pure and simple! … does Chrome have a big user base? So what! So does IE!!

And how much different is this this here from Chrome, really? If a wanted to use something like Chrome, I would use Chrome!

Think about it: why did anyone use Opera in the first place? There was a small user base, but IMO the reason that it was so small was compatibility. I never cared that “it is the developers fault, Opera is following the recommended protocols” and all that crap. Opera used to broke lots of sites. I used it, loved it, and hated it. Like most of us.

So they ditch Presto, and went to Chrome. This was supposed to be the rendering engine only! To this day I regret that I told a few co-workers that “we will have a full featured browse, with his own proxy and advanced non-addon-dependable customizations, fully compatible, and I will install it on most of our clients”

        What happened to this future?

        • Piotr Karol Marek Żółtowski

The future of browsers, both for Firefox and Opera, are very strange.

        • BamBam

I agree completely. It’s gone off the rails now. There is no way they can even catch Firefox – let alone Opera 12 feature set again. For the first time in 17 years of Opera usage – Firefox became my default browser this week.

        • Heimen Stoffels

I didn’t have much problem with Presto as the rendering engine. Most sites worked perfectly. The only thing that was a bit lacking was Javascript performance. But I don’t see why they couldn’t have improved on that with Presto. For all the rest, I loved the old Opera! They even cared about Linux users (like I am).

    • supersur

I can only speak for myself, but it appears to me that the main benefit of this blog is the sporadic weather reports of the Opera staff.

  • VladdSerbia

You’re heading in the right direction with O23, good job guys! Thanks.

    • Piotr Karol Marek Żółtowski

      LOL

      • VladdSerbia

Go away from my comment, whiner. O12 is not coming back, fight your lost battle elsewhere.
They are doing decent job and I’m (mostly) satisfied where new Opera is heading, if you’re not – try throwing some big money at them instead of words, maybe they will listen to you more closely. It’s a FREE software after all, take it or LEAVE it.

        • Piotr Karol Marek Żółtowski

Oh, I offended a fanboy of new Opera, who doesn’t understand what Opera browser should be, sadness so much ;_; Yeah, you’re right. They doing excelent job on losing real Opera fans and idleness, yeah. And, btw., in the past Opera excelled with technologies and features, now they try copy everything from other browsers, mostly from Chrome. But, you are newbie in web browsers, so you must praise this shitty clone of Chrome and hate anyone, who know Opera better than you, yeah.

Your words will not scare me, so don’t worry. I will try to hate fanboy’s like you :)

          • VladdSerbia

I’m not new with Opera, I’m definitively not a fanboy(get a life), but I do know how to say thanks for something that I find very useful.
Now do your “LOL”s at someone else. My discussion ends here.

          • Piotr Karol Marek Żółtowski

You’re not a fanboy? HAHAHAHAH :D If not, why are you must defend this shitty clone of Chrome? Write to me 5 proper reasons and I will stop repling to your comments. If not, I will remember you as new to Opera, because you don’t know what is Tab Stacking, integrated e-mail client/RSS reader, MDI and more which was in real Opera :)

            Go on, loser :)

          • Hunk

Dude, you find new Opera very useful? Come on, it’s a pain to look at new browser. There is no features whatsoever. They add something they think is very cool and wait for positive comments. Heart menu? This isn’t funny at all.

But, now they have surveys so it is possible (?) that they’ve finally understood what users want. It’s ok if they carry about ‘normal’ users who didn’t know about pinned tabs or what bookmarks are but there is no choice for people who know how these ‘geek’ features work and love them.

New Opera gives them nothing, not a single choice like if you don’t like bookmarks look we have stash and speeddial, and bookmarks bar. Everything works like this in new Opera browser – developers think they know what is better for users. It’s a shame because users HAVE brains and they can learn new things. New Opera pretends to be ‘smart’ browser but it isn’t smart, it’s dull.

          • Onaj Tamo

            Free as in free beer.
Then how long have you been using Opera?

All those who miss Opera 12 can switch to otter browser.

The thing is Opera used to be the most advanced browser, other browsers used to copy Opera’s features. Now Opera is struggling even to copy other browsers.

Another thing I am thinking is that they are trying to make the Desktop version of opera more like the mobile version of opera because the mobile version is more succesful on its market.

Now I am not saying the new Operas are bad,but I also can’t defend them since I am still missing the version for my os(Linux).

          • VladdSerbia

Indeed. I’m regular on FF and Opera for almost 10 years, v8.something(?). I’m not glued to any browser(if not satisfied, hit uninstall). I am aware how big Opera was and in what state Opera is today(rewriting years long work from scratch), but I will try not to get involved in “old vs new” discussion, since it leads nowhere… maybe in a year or two, developing takes time.

Otter? I know that they are actively working, hope they are making visible progress… Yeah, and Opera works on chunks of features and Linux build… I’m looking forward to all that.
            - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
            - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
This blog will be more “silenced” after a while, if Opera devs keep printing builds with (wanted) features and/or people realize that “xy” feature will not happen soon(or ever) and leave. Both instances will take many months to achieve. At the moment, this blog is in state where person can’t thank devs for their efforts without attracting attention from disappointed/rebel users. Trying to argue with them is futile, there are examples on every corner.. They all want their “x,y,z” and they want them implemented now! I understand them, but that doesn’t mean that I want to tolerate it. Unlike myself, Opera crew must allow reasonable “freedom of speech” here, which eventually creates tension and stress on daily basis on their side, have impact on their work and/or put their communication with users on ice…

If any impatient old Opera fan can successfully build “a clone” of Presto Opera with most features(in less than couple of years!), by all means, do the impossible, impress us all and show us the way… (Patience is a virtue, better practice it. )

          • Onaj Tamo

Problem is he can’t.Presto is closed source.Unless he manages to backwards engineer it into source code, but then that would be illegal.

But when do you expect that the majority of people on this blog will actually be satisfied? You know, like they used to be in the good old times.

  • NoName

I think you made some typos in the “Insecure content mixed in on secure pages” section.

  • Bjarne Bertelsen

I think the new heart is a step backwards. Before you only had to use one click for stash, one click for speed dial and one click to bookmark (if the bookmark bar was open). Now you have to click the heart, then read the meny, and then click again. Not good.
And something still is not right with scrolling with two fingers on trackpad on Macbook Pro. Big difference compared to Opera stable.

  • Deus Ex Vino

Why dont you move some interaction icons (add to stash etc. and whatever) to TabHead? you could make them visible on (maybe longer) mouse-over along with already availably “x” for closing tabs.

    • NoName

The “X” takes up enough space as it is.

  • NoName

I have to comment on the heartbeat. It looks awkward.
It seems to just switch between to images, instead of beating.

Take a look at FF when adding bookmarks on a high-Hz monitor… It’s enjoying to bookmark a site, just for the sake of that animation!

  • Nekomajin42

One thing I’ve forgotten: Can you add direct links to the options in the settings? Similar to the flags or the O12 config. It’s pretty hard now to refer to an option in blog posts or IM, etc.

    • NoName

Actually you can, however it’s not very good.
      Example: opera://settings/#disableSpeedDialAnimations

To get it, you have to go to settings, open Devtools with Ctrl+Shift+I (No rightclick here)
Go to the Elements tab, press the magnifying glass and click on the text of an option. Then take for “for” or “id” attribute and put in the addressbar with a hashtag in front. That should do.

It they could add highlighting for the option when doing this, it would work quite well.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

The internal security model prevents you from clicking these links on pages with protocols other than opera://. So it would not help. Searching is you best option.

      • Nekomajin42

But it works in the flags and also in some sections in the settings. For example, I can use the opera://settings/searchEngines link.

Usecase: There is this new lazy loading option. When I’ve written the news to MagyarOpera, I had to explain where they find it, instead of just insert a direct link.

  • theomni

The heart seems neat. But this is a case where this browser would benefit greatly from the customization that was found in Opera 12. It would be so much nicer to be able to simply select which button (heart menu, add to stash, add to SD, add to bookmarks bar) is there.

Minor thing, it really feels like there should be a mouseover effect on the menu items in the heart menu. Just like a subtle highlighting thing like you find in most menus.

  • Herr Pietrus

” think the new heart is a step backwards. Before you only had to use one click for stash, one click for speed dial and one click to bookmark (if the bookmark bar was open). Now you have to click the heart, then read the meny, and then click again. Not good.”

Totally agree. You should simply add third icon for bookmarks to those already existing. But it’s nice that you finally understood that we need “add bookmark” button :)

  • inDigazzZ

    The new Heart menu
    What for?

You should implement Bookmarks Bar syncing instead of doing unnecessary work because it will much useful.
    Or Private Tabs
    Or Site Prefs
Or Hide + button (in Speed Dial)
Or Reorder icons in Extension Toolbar
Or Show all search engines while searching from address bar
    Or Search in Bookmark Bar
Or Double click to close tab
    Or CTRL+Z
    Or Closed tabs button
    Or something really useful !!!

    • sgubel

CTRL+1;2;3 for speed dial shortcuts. The most important feature

      • Nekomajin42

How do you open from SD folders?

        • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Keeping Ctrl pressed + location of your folder -> location of the site in folder?
e.g. 2nd site in folder at sd position 1 would be Ctrl+1->2

          • Nekomajin42

How do you open the 11th site from the 12th folder?

          • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Uhmmm you got me there :P
What about Ctrl + 1 -> 1 for eleventh speed dial.
If it is a folder this will open it and you can proceed with Ctrl + Whatever. If not, it’ll just open the page.

          • Nekomajin42

I’m not a keyboard guy, but I don’t think would work. However, nicknames for folders and sites would be fine.

          • Dmitry Kirin

            … 8, 9, a, b, c, …?
I think we can agree that more than 35 items are no more Speed Dials. :)

          • Nekomajin42

I have more than 40 items in my SD in O12, and I would be able to easily handle more (smaller thumbnails) if it would be necessary.

          • Leif Roar Moldskred

            Press CTRL,
            Press and release 1,
            Press and release 2,
            release CTRL.
            Press CTRL
            Press and release 1,
            press and release 1,
            release CTRL.

          • Vux777

            compared to two mouse clicks?
            open folder, click on thumbnail…๏̯͡๏

          • Leif Roar Moldskred

The keyboard shortcuts I suggested still comes out ahead, assuming your hands are already on the keyboard.

It looks like a lot of steps when written out as above, but that’s the steps the computer has to parse. When we type, the brain compacts this into large-scale steps of more than one key-press.

(Besides, it’s not just two mouse clicks when doing it with a mouse. You have to find the cursor, move the mouse so that the cursor touches upon the folder, click, then move the mouse so that the cursor touches on the thumbnail and finally click again. The most damning thing about doing it this way, is that it involves a feedback loop between the position of the cursor on the screen and your hand movements. That slows your brain right down and prevents the action from being “compressed” into muscle memory triggers.)

          • Nekomajin42

            It a computer, not a piano. :)

    • ynothere_ynotnow

YES! can’t really work with bookmarks since O15… use opera at home and work and need SYNC! WTF -.-’ come on.

    • Leaudevie

This appears to be a basic implementation of the star menu in old opera. If I remember rightly people have been asking for this for ages. It was not absolutely necessary for them to bring it back at all but they did. Thus contrary to popular belief they do appear to care. At least a little. And stop complaining whenever they give us a feature/bugfix/whatever you want to call it. If I was a developer in such a company all this shit would be extremely demoralising. You can’t make somebody feel like crap and complain when they bring out features we repeatedly ask for. That will kill the damn browser. What we need is constructive criticism. They know we want sync, they clearly need more time to deliver what we want so come back in a month and check.

As for constructive criticism: Would it not be best to actually merge stash speed dial and bookmarks (hear me out). Have a root ‘bookmark’ folder which has ‘stash’ and ‘speed-dial’ folders in it. There would also be folders like ‘favourites’ and the ability to add your own etc. This would make it extremely easy to organise. Extremely easy to bookmark a speed-dial because technically they’ll be in the same system and just requires a file to be moved or copied from the speed-dial folder to the root directory or a personal folder. you could move stash files to bookmarks and there would be some continuity between these features. It would also make it easier to organise speed dial folders when you get around to making several sub-folders. It would also play in with the new heart menu and would be a lot easier to explain. Rather than “we have these three seperate systems to store site links blah blah blah were being told to implement a fourth blah blah” its “we have specialised ‘bookmarks’ for short term usage and site comparison called the stash; for instant access on browser start: known as the speed-dial and for traditional long term storage called bookmarks. The bookmarks in the bar could be in the folder called favourites or something.

  • Tom Lindberg

Hello. I still can’t use Opera properly due to my high dpi screen. It’s nice to see some improvement on Opera lately, but the fact I can’t use the browser in the first place isn’t nice at all. Could you estimate when this will change?

I keep bouncing between the other browsers which have full (IE and Chrome beta) or partial (Firefox) high dpi support now and I can’t really settle with any of them.

    • Mateusz Madej

We’re working hard to prepare fully working HiDPI. For now Opera will be forcibly scaled for 200% DPI settings.

  • Alex Parker

“Try to add your favorite page to any of Stash, Speed Dial or the bookmarks bar”

How about adding it to to bookmarks without the “bar”? :)

    • Mateusz Madej

For now, the only way is to add them is using the bookmarks bar.

I have Chrome with PPAPI, but in Opera only NPAPI

    • Leonardo Gomes

Because it’s not on your system afaik. It’s more like an Chrome addon and only works in Chrome.

bookmarks from the bar open in the active tab, it is ridiculous

          • Konstantin Paramonov

should I now parry that I don’t find it ridiculous like you did?:)

          • Saskatchewan

            You don’t have to :-)

I just don’t like when my browser decides for me when I want to open a new tab. If I want my bookmark in a new tab, I’ll click it with Ctrl(+Shift)+Click.

BTW: This Shift+Click opening a new window instead of a new tab can also be annoying. :(

        • Vux777

          that’s not true
left click on bookmark in BB will open page in current tab in Chrome, FF, old Opera Presto…

    • Rod Corkin

Agreed, should open by default in new tab. It’s cumbersome to right click then left click to get the obvious option.

      • NoName

You can middle-mouseclick or Ctrl+mouseclick, to open in a new tab.
It’s the exact same behaviour as links. Makes sense to me.

        • Rod Corkin

Then you would have no problem if they reserved such behaviour for opening in the active tab. The basic left-click should be open in new tab. I hardly ever open a new link in the active tab.

          • Rod Corkin

Or at least provide the option to choose, as does the ‘Tidy Bookmarks’ extension I use instead of the bar…

          • NoName

I do have a problem with it. It will go against how things normally work, which confuses people.

I hardly ever open a bookmark in a new tab.
Where are we going with this? :)

          • Rod Corkin

As I already wrote, provide the option to choose, as does the ‘Tidy Bookmarks’ extension I use instead of the bar..

          • NoName

Sorry, Disqus didn’t show that comment when I replied…

Yes, an option would be fine. But I think Opera is more conservative now, on doing small options like this.

          • Rod Corkin

            Ain’t that the truth!

          • Vux777

basic left click opens links/pages/folders in explorer tree…etc, in current tab/window/frame…
that is common behavior in almost every app
here, down on Earth at least…๏̯͡๏

        • mathman

But it’s not the same behavior as for links. When clicking on a link in a page you’re already in that tab and the expected behavior would be to open in the same tab. Once you go to the bookmark bar you have left that tab and the ‘obvious’ behavior would be to not disturb the current tabs and open in a new one.

          • NoName

No. Everything below the tab, has the context of the selected tab. This has been discussed before, some years ago (when deciding whether the tabbar should be below or above the address bar.).

So, since the bookmark-bar is below the tab, it has the current tab as it’s context.

It makes perfect sense to open it in the current tab.

Also, all browsers that I can think of, does this.

    • Dmitry Kirin

It is believed that default behaviour (of anything) is the most obvious for users. Those who want to open a link in a new tab can use Ctrl+Shift+click or middle click to modify the default behaviour. It is the same guideline as with HTML hyperlinks: avoid using target="_blank", leave it for users to decide how they want the link opened. See more in http://css-tricks.com/use-target_blank/

I always set Google to open search results in new tabs, though. Bookmark bar is the same sort of a generic link collection. However, links opening from it in new tabs is annoying me in Maxthon.

  • Emil Huber

      Turn off Opera Turbo.

  • naranj

hi dev team thanks for the update
I have a question: is possible to implement the private tab in the same window? It is more comfortable and less annoying.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

This is not likely at this time. Mostly because it is confusing and easy to mix your privates and your public content. There have been more extensive comments on the subject before.

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

I love it when people make decisions for me, don’t you?

What If want more than one private tab? Do I have to open more than one window? How is that less confusing? And what do you know about what I find confusing and what not?

Several private tabs in one window and the non private in another, so when I want to close all private ones I can just close that multi-private-tabs window.

Several private tabs and one or two non private in the same window, I can right click it and select the non private and tell it to close all others, or close those to the right.

Several private windows, I have to close one by one, otherwise Windows will close ALL of them, including the one I didn’t mean to close.

        • Leonardo Gomes

But why do you would need to open several private windows?
You just open one and open how many tabs you want inside it.

I’m not against private tabs but i agree that having both private and normal tabs mixed on the same window can be confusing for some people.

          • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Thank you for clearing that up.

And about being confusing to have both private and non private in the same window, old opera solved it by putting a special icon in the tab, not the page favicon. It’s not confusing at all.

          • Emanuele

I agree and there is another thing I can’t understad: for stuff like Tab stacking I can accept Opera’s backwardness because in the forum we’ve seen in the past lot of (limited) people who have problems with that feature… but honestly I can’t recall many threads about complaining for the mix of private and non-private tab in single window … I’m wondering how they can say that

      • Hunk

You can change color of the private tab or add some image to the tab so it won’t be confusing. Well, you can change the whole browser skin when user switched to private tab. Tabs are so much easier than windows. Firefox users can solve this by installing extension. What about Opera?

      • P Head

I miss the times when Opera users weren’t treated like idiots…

        • Emanuele

me too… but at this time I gave up on this… Opera targets a kind of user that isn’t near to me at all (and that I’d like to suppress for the salvation of humanity, to be honest) so soo long…

  • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Not sure if that’s an issue, but do you know that adding

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareGoogleChromeProfile]
    "high-dpi-support"=dword:00000001
(enabling Chrome’s HiDPI) renders Opera completely unusable?

    • Leonardo Gomes

I have enabled hidpi on Chrome (using chrome:flags) and Opera seens ok so far.

      • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

They changed that in later versions. The flag is gone and it’s controled via the mentioned registry key.

    • Leonardo Gomes

OK, adding it to regedit seems to enable hidpi on Opera but things get really messed up.

  • zeke

yeap, working perfectly in (old) mac, incl, updates. :) :) faster than stable, i think. it loads pages perfectly. thanks very much, zeke

  • Max Krüger

how about a update on the status of opera for linux?

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

There will be one when its ready. So when you see one, it will be ready. Well, or very nearly ready.

  • Ahmet Yiğitoğlu

you fucked the sync, do you know what did you do?

  • Nekomajin42

Another bug: lazy loading checkbox is disabled but unchecked when turbo is enabled.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

The option cannot be changed—always enabled—when Opera Turbo is enabled. This may not be entirely clear from the Settings page. We’ll try to improve it in the future.

      • Nekomajin42

It would be entirely clear if it would be checked.

I left turbo enabled the last time I used the dev. Now, after update, I went to the settings, I did not understand why I cant check the checkbox (it was disabled), until I figured out that turbo was enabled.
I don’t think it’s a big deal. Just check it when you set it disabled on turbo start, and problem solved.

  • Darklink88

“Delay loading of background tabs” is really an awesome news! I suggested that feature in the previous survey and I’m glad it was already in the works! <3

  • kevinwang2

Could you please add an option for the old heart menu?

“Now it’s more intuitive, you do not have to ‘learn’ icons”.

Fair enough, but for **those of us who have already learned the icons** (and it’s not like super hard to learn — took me fifteen seconds I guess), it’s a major productivity drain.

Or better yet, is there (I mean, is it possible to add) a keyboard shortcut for adding to stash? To me, stash is really one major advantage of Opera over Chrome, and I’m a keyboard guy, so a keyboard shortcut is the best solution.

If not, maybe I’ll write an extension myself.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

Hm, there wasn’t a menu there before … but we hear what you guys are saying regarding one-click-to-bookmark.

      • kevinwang2

Oh, I mean the old heart “icon”, not the old menu… Sorry.

        • L33t4opera

Hi, to disable new Heart menu (bring back old buttons), go to the address bar, and type “opera://flags/#heart-menu”, and press enter, then select “Disabled” from the selectbox, and then relaunch the Opera.

          • kevinwang2

Thanks, forgot the check the flags :) However, I’m afraid that this option might disappear when the new heart menu makes it to the stable.

      • Stanislav Stratil

Hey, Daniel… Are you a developer of opera? Just asking…

        • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

I am not a developer. Working in Desktop Design at Opera in Oslo.

      • Nekomajin42

Can you make it optional? I like it, because I don’t like a dozen of icons in the address field, but it is true that one click is one click. However, you could put a simple option to the settings to use the old was instead of the heart menu.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

    No translation?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Afaik, translations are added only on Stable builds. Or on the lastest Next before the version goes stable.

      • Mateusz Madej

You are right Leonardo, we add translations in late stages of Next developement.

  • Vux777

I don’t have “delay onload event” turned on, but disqus here is loading only when I focus on tab.
Is that normal for Disqus, or is it set by admins here on blogs?… and can I turn that damn delay off somehow?

    • Leonardo Gomes

I have that flag enabled and it doesn’t seems to be affecting loading of disqus comments here.

  • Stanislav Stratil

I do like speed dial icon, I do like bookmarks (star) icon, but I think, that stash should have different icon, maybe something what looks like drawer? or something… I dont wanna hearts in my browser… And when its red, its somehow distracting…
And I think too, that one click solution was better… And look to the future. If you want to expand bookmarks, it will need better menu then just simply this three-rows menu. There should be at least option to choose folder where you want to save bookmark… Will you be then changing this again? Into three icons with different popups? Maybe you will be adding more options for stash and speed dial… Will this all be in one popup from one icon?

  • Stve

I don’t mind the heart menu…. but it’s crazy when adding a bookmark also turns on the bookmark bar & you have to dive into settings to turn it off.
Why not give us a keyboard shortcut to toggle the Bookmark bar ??????????????

    • http://www.tbochenek.de thorbenb

There are shortcuts, are you using a mac?

      • Vux777

        is that mac only?

      • Stve

I’m on Windows there is no equivalent KB shortcut.
We do have Ctrl D to bookmark a page which is only active when the bookmarks bar is showing.

  • MrM

for a preview it is very very stable. i have not had one crash yet, while my trusty old 12.51 needs a restart every second day.
now it just needs smart tab switching, tab grouping, searching on the page by using . and not f3, and mouse gestures.
then i can stop worrying about the fact that i might as well use chrome.. :)

    • Mateusz Madej

You can search-on-page by using ‘.’. Just go to opera:settings and enable advanced keyboard shortcuts :)

        Is Pepper different?

        • Mateusz Madej

Yes, pepper would should 14. So this is NPAPI. Was it a renderer or browser crash? And did you watch this video as embedded or on YouTube portal?

          • zeke

when it restarted it said “opera recovered from a crash” so i suppose it was a crash. watched the video on youtube portal. can i install pepper on opera dev + stable. is there a site that explains how to do it??? z

  • Tiago Silva

Did this build break Speed Dial Extensions? Is it only my Facebook SD extension that has stopped working?

  • VladdSerbia

Umm… guys, your new O23 heart is also available in settings/about/extensions/etc pages, old heart wasn’t available there. Is this a extra feature or a bug?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Maybe an improvement? Before you could only add them to Speed Dial.

  • Sidney Moraes

Discover is not blinking any more! :)

  • Simon Houston

Bug, lazy loading session setting now doesn’t work, all my tabs load at once, this is majorly annoying..

    • Simon Houston

^^ Oh and thats one reason why updates should be optional, that bug alone has put my browser in intensive care..

    • Leonardo Gomes

Have you enabled “Delay loading of background tabs” on settings?

      • Simon Houston

Should this matter? I had the setting turned on in flags in the last update where the only tab that loads is the foreground one and now I can’t change the settings because its now busy loading every other tab i don’t immediately need!

        • Simon Houston

The “Delay loading of background tabs” works by the way, its just the case that I was using a similar setting in flags before the update and it seems it doesn’t work anymore

          • Leonardo Gomes

This is one of the problems of using flags: as they are experiments, there’s always a chance of them to be removed or (re)set to default on a update.

        • Leonardo Gomes

The setting is no longer in flags, so it needs to be re-enabled as it seems.

  • naranj

how i can install pepper flash in opera? I find only for linux and google chrome

    • Leonardo Gomes

Afaik there is no pepper flash for Windows. Not one that can be used by any program at least.

    • L33t4opera

If you have the Pepper variant of the Adobe Flash Player plug-in installed on your computer, Opera will now prefer PPAPI plug-ins (“Pepper”) to the older NSAPI plug-in (“Netscape”).

Hi, if the above doesn’t work for you, then you can try this workaround.

      • Leonardo Gomes

What abou the updates? They would be automatic or do i would need to update the plugin manually?

        • L33t4opera

          Hi Leonardo,
In case, when you copy the “PepperFlash” directory to the location different than default (like in the example from the link), then it will not. However, if you have installed Chrome then every time when its Pepper will be updated, then you only need to change the path (currently on Windows the default path is “C:Program FilesGoogleChromeApplication35.0.1916.114PepperFlashpepflashplayer.dll”) in the switch “–ppapi-flash-path=”, accordingly to the location of the directory of its latest PPAPI Flash version.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Thanks for the info.

Anyway, i’ve tried to use the pepper flash but it didn’t work. Opera recognized it but not the sites i’ve tried like YT and Dailymotion.

          • L33t4opera

You’re welcome ;-) Did by any chance, the “Click to play” option is enabled in your Opera? If that is the case, then after you load the page, try to reload it, and then launch the video again, and see if it helps.

          • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve tried to reload the pages but it coudn’t solve the issue. Even with plugins set to be played automatically, the plugin are not recognized by the pages.

          • L33t4opera

            What is your Windows version?

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Win 8.1

          • L33t4opera

Is this the same version of Peeper Flash works correctly in your Chrome?

          • Leonardo Gomes

Now i’m really confused. Even with Adode Flash plugin disabled on Chrome, some videos shows “adobe flash player” when i right click on them.

I’ve tested both with regular Chrome and Canary.

Pepper seems to be working on Chrome but i can’t say it for sure.

          • L33t4opera

Perhaps in your case, it will be a problem similar to that described here.

          • L33t4opera

You can also try the Adobe Flash beta plug-in for Windows (for all PPAPI based browsers).

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Thanks.

Seems to be working as right clicking on a flash video shows “adobe flash 14.0.0.111. Ate least on Opera.

  • vladon

Is it possible to get lazy loading of tabs opened in the background? I open a lot of sites from the speed dial before browsing. Currently the first page I want to read (vg.no) is very affected by the loading of the other tabs. I would like the web sites to load when I switch to them, not when I open them in the background.

No, currently it only works when restoring a session.

maybe your FW is blocking it….
opera_autoupdate.exe is not part of opera.exe….

I just download the netinstaller and use that (although it took a very long time to download during the install). My other machine seems to auto update fine. This machine gets that error, and has done for the past 5 or 6 updates. It’s not a firewall issue.

    • Dmitry Kirin

In my case, the reason was SSL filtering in antivirus/firewall. It was affecting only opera_autoupdate.exe. The downloadable installers were working just fine.

The Heart menu was past due, good to have it. Although the heart symbol is now not ideal anymore for Stash. And as someone said: You can’t use the Heart menu to add bookmarks to bookmark bar folders.

Well, it is clear that all this can only be a intermediate step to full bookmark functionality like Opera 12 (searching your bookmarks via address bar is essential!).

PS/OT: Is there a way to manage Opera’s file type behaviour like in Opera 12?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Ps/OT: Not possible

PPPS: Not possible dure to security reasons.

PepperFlash, hmm… i *think* i got it to work, (atleast it shows adobe flash version being different when right clicking YT videos), buuut, on YT, with PepperFlash, it won’t remember the sound level i had on videos, always bumps it up to 100%, also, embedded videos won’t work with Pepper, not cool.
This just a PepperFlash problem or? (Also, i can’t see Pepper, nor Adobe Flash in extensions?).

There should be option to disable tab-hibernation for pinned tabs.

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

Why an option? This could be the default behavior further down the line. Its still an experiment at this stage. We are more focus on getting things to hibernate (hard) than making good decisions on what not do hibernate (easy).

      • Vux777

40 sec for tab hibernation delay is too long
and memory gain is not that obvious
it should be instant on blur

        • Nekomajin42

Or not. I use pinned tabs for online games (to prevent accidental tab close), and it would be really annoying if it would hibernate when I switch tabs to check something.

          • Vux777

that’s not matter of time, but should tab hibernate in first place

      • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

Good to hear that it is being worked on as a default behavior.

Expecting this comment to be deleted by the Mods but where else can I get this information out to the early excited Opera testers ???

  • Emanuele

Insecure content mixed in on secure pages: if you don’t provide an “advanced” view (through a link in the ballon tip) to examine what is the blocked content it’s quite useless a badge that tell me “hey, look at me! I’m proud to say you I’ve blocked something… want to load it anyway?”

    • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

You can see this information in the Developer Console.

      • Nekomajin42

        Emanuele is right.

      • Emanuele

Yes, but I’m sure you can understand my point. That information isn’t something that should be confined in an hidden part of a tool used by developers… it’s an information that every average user should be able to know to make its choice ;)

        • https://www.aeyoun.com/ Daniel Aleksandersen

How would a list of weird file names help anyone but a developer?

          • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

A end user might not know what the developer tools are for (it is a mistake to think that all end users are developers), a show details and an explanation linked to why it was blocked

It might break a few sites (not as many as a few years ago), some are still using mixed content, I think you could ask Google and Mozilla (not sure if Microsoft has a list) about what sites break with blocking mixed content

          • Nekomajin42

You don’t have to show the full file name (especially if there are several files), just the domain.

And as I wrote a few days ago, serving the uneducated users is not the right way. You should give them information and let them learn. It is a slow process, but the right way.

          • Emanuele

Uhmm… in this we’ve different opinions I see … I try to explain my point: If I’m browsing the web and my browser tells me it blocked something (leaving to me the choice to un-block it), I suppose I’ve to see what kind of stuff it blocked before I take my decision … As you can see this is not related at all to a developer but we can still consider this infos “too much advanced” and rely for them to the Console but at least put a simple link in the ballon tip to directly open it (even if a good organized page would be a better solution)

    Ideas:

A quick way to remove a stashed/bookmarked page could be done by right-clicking the heart button. If the page is added on multiple places, the left-click menu would appear.

The Speed-Dial button could work as a cycle button. Once you are at the Speed-Dial page, you would be able to click it again to go to Stash, then Discovery.

Since stashing should happen more frequently, maybe middle click on the heart button could stash the page?

On another subject: is anyone having trouble posting using Disqus? Login in works fine, but then it doesn’t show as logged in when trying to post.

    • Nekomajin42

“The Speed-Dial button could work as a cycle button. Once you are at the Speed-Dial page, you would be able to click it again to go to Stash, then Discovery.”

      That’s a good idea!

    • Dmitry Kirin

Different behaviour is not good (with or without menu, depending on the number of places the bookmark is added to). Cycle button looks good, but it’s not for the case when a user wants to add a bookmark to multiple places. As for middle click, it can be inconvenient (mouse wheel) or unavailable as such (touch screens).

I’ve already written that there’s no problem with having all three icons on the address bar. Imagine a nightmare that toolbar buttons Bold/Italic/Underline in Word were merged into one ‘heart’… :)

  • András Ács

I haven’t tried the Heart menu (not under the right platform) but I have a small suggestion for improvement based on the screenshot: the menu button could be wider to be more comfortable to hit, so only vertical fine-positioning is needed instead of both directions. This would add some joy to the ‘pain’ of having to click twice. (The same UX improvement can be clearly felt with the Aura version of Chrome, where the new-tab button got wider).

Another idea is that the Heart menu could be hover-based, and when hovered, the additional button(s) would slide out to the left (or bottom maybe, to not screw with other badges). Stashing would be the same as before, and bookmarking would require a small nudge only then the click. Of course removing clutter might not be the only reason for the Heart menu, having a full blown popup holds further opportunities. Also, the hover would interfere with touch. Not a good idea after all :)

On another note, I’m eagerly waiting for Linux version, thinking that with Aura a major roadblock to it is cleared. I’m optimistic, and prefer a well-baked base to be in place first so I don’t mind that you don’t rush to release like the Maxthon guys (what’s THAT franken-chromium?)

Keep up the good work on the browser, the engine, and also on the web standards front (yay for the picture element!)

  • Adamas

Guys, now when pressing Back button, Opera does NOT show the content which was on the page before (e.g. a message in a form), but instead reloads the page. This is really not a good behaviour, and it was NOT there before, meaning Opera always showed previous content. I beg you, PLEASE fix this behaviour back the way it was…

  • shane

Adding bookmarks via the heart menu makes the bookmarks bar visible, which is most certainly not what I want (does anyone want that visible, wasting screen real estate?).
It also doesn’t let me choose a folder to add the bookmark to.

Note I use ‘Tidy Bookmarks’ extension for bookmark management due to lack of native support in Opera.

  • ColinB1

There still exists a problem in Develop 23 with shortcut to Google one of the default search engines. When Developer 22 arrived the google ‘shortcut’ changed from “g” to “go” on my system (Windows 8.1). When 22 was promoted from Developer to Next the shortcut reverted to g.

When Developer 23 arrived the problem re-emerged: as seen below the shortcut for google on Developer 23 is “go” versus the previous standard – “g”.

Below are screenshots from the manage search engines dialogue for Developer 23 and Next 22.

    • Dmitry Kirin

It happens when there is a duplicate keyword among custom search engines. I’ve just tested it: I changed some custom search engine keyword to ‘g’ directly in the database, launched Opera, and the default Google Search became ‘go’.

P.S. Dev and Next use separate profiles, so it’s not really changing to ‘go’ and reverting, it’s just two different profiles, the Dev one seemingly having a ‘g’ for another SE.

      • ColinB1

Thanks for that input – I’ve replaced the offending search engine keyword assignment – it was ‘g’ for google groups and that ‘solves’ the problem (after restart). It would seem to me that a preferable behaviour would be for the Developer profile for the non default groups not to include a conflict with the default groups (which can’t be changed using the manage search engine in settings) or better for the change process not to change the default search engines when duplication occurs but rather to change the optional search engines.

  • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

These latest snapshots have a problem with downloads. Sometimes things won’t download because of reasons. If you leave the tab open and restart the browser, though, the download starts (it’s just happened to me with a SourceForge app) and completes fine. I don’t know if it can be an issue with an extension. I’m testing for that, but I thought I should put it out there just in case anyone else is experiencing the same problem.

    • Dmitry Kirin

I noticed some behaviour that looked strange to me at first: as if the older version would launch after the update seemed to have already been applied. Or maybe it was just because autoupdate was running from the scheduled task and, hence, was separated from the browser running.

  • Der Herr Nick

    Something that really bugs me:
very often when I load a new site it looses its focus and I cannot use keyboard shortcuts or go back to the former site using backspace or search the page using Ctrl+F. It doesn’t happen always and I have no clue what may cause this annoying problem. Or is it a feature and I don’t get it?

speed-dial loads slowly and very slowly in both Opera Dev 23, compared with the Opera Dev 22 … sometime Opera Dev 23 show white about:blank instead of speed-dial for a long time

    • Dmitry Kirin

What exactly would you like to do? If you want to change key combinations for existing commands, maybe we could do it, by editing Preferences.

      • Laga Mahesa

Is that possible for CTRL-SHIFT-T? I’d like to use the older and more intuitive CTRL-Z.

        • L33t4opera

Hi, you can give a try to one of the solutions.

          • Laga Mahesa

            You’re a star, mate. Thanks!

      • Franciszek Baranowski

I want to assign “CTRL+N” as new Tab, not new Window. I always use that key and I can redefine it in Firefox, in old Opera but not in new Opera. Personalization is very important, right? I want to use my browser this way and Opera should give me that possibility.

        • Dmitry Kirin

Close Opera, backup the file Preferences from Opera profile. Open the file, look for the section Keybindings. Redefine them as you want, like this:

          “Keybindings”: {
          “Basic”: {
          “AddBlankTab”: ["Ctrl+N"],
          “OpenWindow”: ["Ctrl+Shift+N"]

          }
          }

By default, they are Ctrl+T and Ctrl+N, respectively. Also, there can be other keywords in the Keybindings section; be careful with commas.

      • Franciszek Baranowski

CTRL+N for new TAB, not Window.

      • Franciszek Baranowski

Ok, nevermind. Someone figure that out and it works. :)

  • taneli

Apparently i can’t input numbers into some input fields (Example here: http://www.entropedia.info/WeaponCompare.aspx ).
It will use the keyboard shortcuts of the browser instead while inputting numbers (like, 1 = previous tab, 2 = next tab).

    Edit, more details:
Some of the fields are unusable untill you select something, it only happens with those fields that are later on (via JavaScript) enabled.

stash.db size not changed after deleting some objects and restarting Opera

    • Dmitry Kirin

It is a normal behaviour of database management system: when rows are deleted, the space is not released but just marked as free.

In stash.db, the space is mostly occupied by thumbnail images of the stashed pages. ‘Holes’ remaining from deleted items do not have a significant effect on the performance. Still, as stash.db is a regular SQLite database, you can compact it (sqlite3 stash.db "vacuum;").

Webpages open in Opera are listed as separate processes in Windows Task Manager.
    Like this:
    opera.exe *32
    opera.exe *32
    opera.exe *32

Could you list it as follows:
    opera.exe
    opera.exe *32
    opera.exe *32
    opera.exe *32
The process on top (without ‘*32′) would close all Opera processes.

This is the way MS internet explorer integrates in Windows Task Manager
and it seems a good idea. (When closing Opera Windows outside this option of
Windows Task Manager, only the content of the last one open will be remembered).

    • zhnujm

The *32 marks an 32bit process. Theres no way for an application to change this (except building an 64bit application – and there is no opera 15+ 64bit)

      • Fallon

I asked about leaving *32 out, for the option to save all windows. Not about adding *64 to a listed 32-bit browser. Still, thank you for your reply!

        • zhnujm

well, i think you misunderstood – its not possible to leave the *32 out, its added by windows task manager for every 32bit process no matter what.

    • Rafael Luik

    Better TABS Survey.
    * What keeps me from having more Tabs open?
-1- Tabs do not double up into the number of rows I would like to enable.
-2- Bookmarks Bar could have a Sidebar display, because of screen space.
    * Am I happy with how Tabs work in the Opera Browser?
1- ‘Click on Tab to minimize’ should be re-introduced. Jumping between Active Tab and last Active Tab (and thus between pages of interest) is useful.
-2- Opera Speed Dial could have its own Tabs, with import-export backup option.
-3- Tabs as listed in Opera Task Manager, could be saved as a session in a session list. Developing Task Manager into a Session Manager.
-4- Wouldn’t mind the return of some other Tab options from old Opera.

Doing CPU intensive tasks while Opera is running kills the browser.
I do 3D now and then, and when ever i’m rendering something in the background, i like to browse web a little, rendering 3D is obviously quite CPU heavy, so here’s the problem:
CPU heavy stuff going on, browse the web, every time i hover a link, or an element that has “on hover” on it, Opera prosesses it for a solid minute, everything else seemed to be fine, but can’t move mouse over any element that has “on hover” CSS/JS for it.

    • Dmitry Kirin

Indeed, Chromium constantly changes process priorities, so setting them from Task Manager does not help at all. I’ve seen recommendation to use some special software to force a desired priority (e.g. Process Lasso). I’ve never used it myself, though.

Can you set the 3D renderer to run in low priority? When I’m running a batch conversion of photos in RawTherapee, I can browse the internet without any slowdown. I don’t see a priority setting there, but it’s just sort of working smoothly.

It will be nice if a new feature “Delay loading of background tabs” respects settings of the same feature previously called “lazy-session-loading” which was set through opera:flags. I have been using opera because of features that had logic behind them, but after installing the latest one, I am missing following

    CTRL+1,2,3 speed dial
    CRTL+Z
ZTRAL+TAB shifts in row by default, not between two latest
    recent pages icon missing
    MOUSEWHEEL CLICK for new Tab
MOUSEWHEEL CLICK ON A TAB to close the tab

    And many more!!!

Please, bring back those features, as Opera loses its point, it just became like any other ridiculous non-userfriendly browser!

Hi, I am on the latest Opera release for Windows 8.1.

My problem seems to be that Opera Turbo keeps turning itself on, when I reopen the browser, even if I turn it off using the quick settings menu.

I was wondering how to make it a default to have Opera Turbo off?

    Thanks!
