We’ve been busy cooking up some serious heat in the Opera Developer test kitchen and are ready to drop a huge payload of new AI features for Aria in Opera GX, as part of our AI Feature Drops program.

We’re rolling out a supercharged new version of Writing Mode which has harnessed feedback from our early adopters community to create a weapon of linguistic precision. We’re also adding Aria in the browser tabs – meaning that you can now move a conversation with Aria to a browser tab. Finally, we’re cranking up the quality of Aria’s responses to deliver responses that are sharper, more insightful, and loaded with contextually relevant links.

We’ve been testing these enhancements in the shadows, ensuring they’re primed for maximum impact. Now, we’re unleashing them on Opera GX. So, let’s jump into what each of these updates is all about.

Introducing Aria Writing Mode to Opera GX
In a nutshell: Writing Mode is your ultimate browser tool that lets you summon Aria, our built-in AI sidekick, to craft everything from quick chat messages to detailed strategy guides—all without leaving your current page. Simply open your Command Line with the ctrl+/ (Win) or cmd+/ (Mac) shortcut*, hit the tab key twice until you see the Writing tag, and let Aria help you level up your text on the fly.

Got a boss fight walkthrough that needs to be legendary? Feed Aria the key intel, and watch her spin it into pure gold. Need to condense those sprawling patch notes for your Discord crew? Aria shreds them down to size in seconds. Building a new RPG legend? Toss her a few details, and she’ll forge a backstory that’ll make Tolkien weep.

Aria arrives to the browser tabs
Until now, Aria was only accessible via the sidebar and Command Line but this new feature lets you drag your Aria conversation out of the sidebar and drop it into its own tab, giving you the freedom to juggle your gaming strategies, chat threads, and browsing sessions like a goddamn pro. No more side-eyeing that sidebar; now, you can command Aria directly, whether you’re continuing an existing conversation or sparking a fresh one.

This Feature Drop is designed to streamline your workflow, making it easier to toggle between Aria and your game guides or live streams. With handy keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+TAB, you’ll be switching tabs with the speed of a seasoned pro, keeping you locked in the zone as you conquer both your virtual and digital realms.

Better answers from Aria
With this update we’re buffing Aria’s answering capabilities – but, what does that even mean? Well, it means that whenever you ask Aria something, and it is related to a relevant topic – like gaming or online shopping – it will provide you with an answer that has better content, suggestions and links to more information.

For example, if you’re looking for the latest games of your preferred genre, or if you’re looking for the best gaming headset to hear a hairpin drop across the map, Aria will provide answers that are relevant for you. It will give you a better understanding of what you’re trying to understand – like release dates of a game alongside with pros, cons and a description – and even links where you can get it or more information about it.

To start using Aria AI, you just need to open the Opera GX settings and scroll down to the Sidebar section. Once there, select Aria and add it to the sidebar. You can also do this the “GX” way by clicking the “…” (Sidebar setup) icon in the bottom left corner of your screen to add Aria services. Now, you can start mastering your AI prompts!
