New Image Understanding shortcut for Aria AI – AI Feature Drop

Up until now, to use Aria’s Image Understanding you needed to save and then upload the image to Aria from your device files. Today we’re adding a shortcut that allows you to right click on any image you want and send it to Aria directly – making it much easier and quicker.

We introduced Aria’s Image Understanding capabilities back in May 2024 as part of our AI Feature Drops program for Opera Developer – our browser for early adopters. A few months afterwards we introduced this feature into the flagship version of our browser, Opera One, and then we introduced it into Opera for Android. Just as it’s convenient to have Image Understanding on-the-go, it’s also convenient to have it literally two clicks away when using our desktop browser – on top of not having to save anything to your device.

How to send images to Aria

If you want to try this update out you’ll need to download Opera Developer – and if you already have it installed, make sure that it’s up-to-date. Once you’ve done that, you’re basically ready to go, simply right click on any image:

The Send Image to Aria AI option is at the bottom of the list when you right click on an image.

When you right click on the image, you’ll see the “send image to Aria AI” option at the bottom. Click that button and the chat with Aria will open automatically – with the image already attached to it and a default prompt that says “Hey Aria! What’s in this image?”. You can alter the prompt to ask whatever you want, for example:

Usually an image says more than a thousand words, but more often than not they also generate more questions and induce our curiosity. For example, what’s the deal with this huge cheese slicer in Norway?

You get information about what's in the image.

In just two clicks, Aria gave me enough context to understand why the cheese cutter is such a thing in Norway – which explains why there’s people erecting a huge cheese cutter to commemorate it. After all, we’re proud of the things that we make here in Norway – be it a cheese cutter or a web browser.
