I’ve found the new taskbar icon, pinned from the desktop one, doesn’t start from launcher.exe anymore, but opera.exe. Is that intentional? Having launcher makes it easy to add a dpi command at the end that stays beta version to version, instead of having to update it each time.

    • Ari

      That’s odd, I’m running it by launcher.exe

      • sgrandin

I’ve changed it to launcher.exe. After the install, Opera opened a second icon on the taskbar, like it wasn’t recognizing the one long there. Perhaps that was related to having updated Win 10 from 1511 to 1607 overnight; that did mess with Opera a little, such as changing the opening page setting (so far it’s the only program I’ve noticed it messed with).

I don’t think there is a need of updating it for every build.

Whether you can do it – you highlight the text is a link (which Opera does not recognize as a link), and clicking on it the wheel to open it in a background tab?
Now, to open the link in a text (which Opera does not recognize as a link), you need to select the text is a link, then open the context menu by pressing the right mouse button. Then, hold down the Ctrl key and select “Go to web address”
    example: https://habrastorage.org/files/cea/1db/f59/cea1dbf595334581a11e9e74278800c7.jpg
    try it yourself:
    http://eu.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/17614454967#post-8

    • Nekomajin43

You can move the selected text onto the tab bar to open it in a new tab.

      • iG0Lka

on the big screen, it’s not very convenient.
much easier to highlight the link text and press the wheel.

        • Nekomajin43

          That’s correct.

    I’m seeing a leak here.
My opera opens in new page tab like this:
    https://ibin.co/36PDTmK9386y.j
First strange thing I notice is that I have 2 processes for start page. So then, I go to let’s say Opera blog:
    https://ibin.co/36PDe57d1Vrk.j
You can see that there is a process still opened for speed dial, so I end that process and open a new tab to see how many processes it opens:
    https://ibin.co/36PDgZyxRVFH.j
Same as the beginning, 2 processes. Probably those 2 are normal but if I go to a site again on that new tab then the speed dial process is still running again, and I don’t think that’s normal.

Did you change something? Or Disqus maybe did? In which case you may be able to revert it in Disqus’s control panel..? All links posted in comments section seem to go through something called viglink which uBlockOrigin blocks:
    https://i.imgur.com/yCYhw6B.gif

    And then
    This site can’t be reached
redirect.viglink.com’s server DNS address could not be found.

A quick search for disqus viglink reveals some discussions about this about a year ago..

Yep, did it to my link as well, and I can’t copy it with ease either because symbols get replaced:

I don’t see it happening here. I have Ublock Origin on Chrome and the links open fine as well as in Opera.

Is there a known issue with keyboard tab-switching?

If I ctrl+tab just once, tabs switch normally. However, if I ctrl+tab, tab (I.e. hold ctrl then press tab two or more times) the tab-switching overlay sticks even after releasing the ctrl key. I then have to click something to make it disappear and selected tab does not get focus.

I have the exact same issue on two computer, both running Windows 10. I have disabled all browser extensions and restarted Opera and the problem still exists.

    • Przemek Kudła

This is the known issue: DNA-58668, thanks anyway.

  • Marko Koivuniemi

I’m not sure is this caused by last night Windows Updates or maybe Opera’s autoupdate but again Opera (Developer) was in a state that none of the tabs would open – and even you cannot access configuration pages. Everything are just white. This has happened again and I thougt there were related to transition between 32-bit to 64-bit builds. But it seems not.
I have all Opera version installed (ok, not presto anymore *snif*) and yesterday I normally closed my default browser – latest Opera Developer. Windows 10 64-bit started to install updates and closed. Today I opened my computer – Windows finishes updates and when trying to start Opera – just blank pages. I downloaded Developer installer and installed it again and now Opera shows just fine. I have not tried to open beta-version (PGO) yet. I did that and it opens just fine and offers update. So it could be that Windows 10 updates brake Opera?

Since the last update a lot of WebGL applications cause pages to crash.

I request a little simple media grabber for Opera, to download youtube, FB and Twitter videos.
It will be nice addition, what do you think developers and mods? Don’t think complex thing, it will be a simple downward arrow under the videos.

    • Leonardo Gomes

I think it may cause some legal issues to Opera.

      • yigido

I cannot think about those, it is not my job 🙂
I just request a little one for useful Opera. Some browsers have this option btw

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Which ones?

Depending on the video and on the site you can download it even in Opera. Just right click on the video.

          • yigido

My request is like “Media Grabber”

          • Leonardo Gomes

OK, but what browsers offers media download natively?

          • yigido

            Torch browser for example.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            So not a major one.

          • yigido

Does it needs to be a major one? Does Opera a copy-cat of major ones like Firefox or Chrome?
Then, lets say in the next days Chrome decides to add a media grabber, then Opera will consider! Just laughing..

          • Leonardo Gomes

What I was trying to show is that major browsers probably will never have such feature because it may bring legal concerns.

          • yigido

I wonder now, if Torch had these kind of problem before?

          • Leonardo Gomes

Most probably it doesn’t even has a significant user baser for anyone to bother complaining about it.

  • Mateusz

Thank you for your hard work 🙂 Could you add option to make bookmarks bar text only, without folder icons for example?

Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1) x64
It can be seen from the screenshots. In the stable version everything is fine.

Where exactly on the screenshots is written your OS?

Turn on the brain and look at the UI 😉 It’s simple!

I commented earlier in this thread about what happens with Opera beta’s taskbar icon after an update from Win 10 1511 to 1607 (Anniversary Edition). I had to run that update twice this past week and the same thing happened both times: I open this (x64) beta from my old Opera launcher.exe taskbar icon and it immediately plants a new (second) icon on the taskbar, and that one becomes operative, as if another window has opened and gets the focus. That new icon also looks a little different (http://tinypic.com/1r53oe86 – existing one in middle, new on the right).

The most important practical problem is that the old icon uses launcher.exe, with my add on, “alt-high-dpi-setting=96” (and -noautoupdate), which has been modified in the registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. On the other hand, the new icon, when pinned and started from, doesn’t recognize the add on. That makes me wonder if it’s starting from opera.exe, instead of from launcher.exe. If so, why? Is this a bug? If it’s not, how or where do I modify it?

  • Chris Thornton

I don’t think this started with the most recent update, but it’s still an issue… The Amazon Assistant extension isn’t working properly (a blank pop up never loads when I click on the extension icon), and I’ve had a few websites failing to load properly where I have tried to enter login details (i.e. most of the page, but the section with the login form remains blank).

Have tried reinstalling (the extension and Opera). Any thoughts?

Cannot access about:config to turn off geolocation. It forces me back to Opera’s regular config page where there term “geolocation” doesn’t even exist. I do not want my location tracked. Even using a secure VPN with altered IP’s and DNS, (not logged into Google), I searched for “tai chi” in Google and it immediately brought up a map of my city showing locations of tai chi classes. In Firefox I can turn off geolocation. Surely there must be a way to do this in Opera 43!

    • Andrey

      Try about://config/contentExceptions#location

    • Leonardo Gomes

By default geolocation is set to ask you if you want to provide your location.

You can change that in Settings > Websites > Local

  • Okay, I will Update it, thanks Beb
