Thanks for this Opera Beta 39.0.2256.21 VPN bug-fix update !
Looks like Opera 39 Stable is upon us soon.

  • João Gonçalves

VPN doesn’t work. It’s stuck on “Connecting” for ever.

    • Aneta Reluga

If I remember correctly, you already had this issue. What is the antivirus you are using, again?

      • João Gonçalves

Correct, it was me. I have ESET NOD32 Antivirus and Comodo Firewall.
The problem still exists if I disable both antivirus and firewall, so I conclude it’s not their fault.

        • Aneta Reluga

Ok, something else then. I know I’m pesky with my questions, but I have to be since everything works correctly on our side and we are unable to reproduce. So:
          1) If you install exactly the same version as standalone, with clean profile – is it possible to use VPN?
          2) Is it possible for you to check with another machine in your household, preferably with a different Windows version, if you can use VPN?
I’m trying to remotely evaluate if this is a machine/profile issue or a network provider issue.

          • João Gonçalves

Thank you. I will test point 1 and 2 later when I arrive home, and post there the results.
What I’ve tested before was that in another machine with the same Windows version (10) and same antivirus and firewall, everything works fine.

          • Aneta Reluga

Might be something with the profile then. Expecting your results, thanks 🙂

          • jho

@Aneta: I was the person with the problem. I have the same AV / FW combo like Joao. 😀

edit: ok, the same prob on Joao’s site.

          • jho

@Joao: Maybe you have a look into my post here: https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2016/06/opera-beta-39-0-2256-9-update/#comment-2746091313

It solves problems with VPN and NOD32. Disabling NOD32 does not help because the SSL certificate is still installed in Opera!

          • João Gonçalves

Thank you jho. Can you help telling me how can I disable Opera check in NOD32? You said that, but I don’t know how to do it in NOD32 settings.

          • jho

hi Joäo: you have to go to “Settings” –> advanced Settings (bottom right corner of the windows) –> Web & Email –> SSL/TLS.

Here you can find a list of all recognized application.

Too much top of the browser compared to other web browsers

    Comparison with other web browsers:

    • Leonardo Gomes

Why this should be considered important? How it would improve the user experience?
Also, why Opera should looks like other browsers?

      • Jose Diaz

I believe this guy is trolling. Seeing many unreasonable complaints from him on these articles made me block him.

        • xirit64

Yes, constantly abusing the bug wizard for telling everyone how his precious Chrome does it.

        • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t know if i could say trolling at all, some of the reports seems legit. For a while i guess it’s more a case of confusing personal preferences and different behaviour between browsers with bugs.

    • Leonardo Gomes

BTW, there have been lots of discussions about that top space since Opera Chromium was released.

    • Zero Kiryu

Not a bug, and a top bar is actually default sized to match Windows interface.

    • Marko Koivuniemi

This one is actually valid point. Screen space is valuable, not anyone has so high resolution monitors.

      • Leonardo Gomes

Itt has been discussed a lot since a long time. May be a valid point but I would say it’s a change request and not a bug at all.

Also, i guess most people use Opera maximised and don’t see the top space.

  • Cobalt

Does not work a quick pressing with the left mouse button on the icon of the extension with the pop-up window (like in Chrome)

    An extension example:
    Adblock Plus: https://addons.opera.com/ru/extensions/details/opera-adblock/

    • Leonardo Gomes

Having a different behaviour than other browser is not necessarily a bug.

      • Cobalt
        • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t see a problem at all. This may be considered a suggestion at most.

          • Cobalt

            But I see.

          • Leonardo Gomes

OK, so what exactly makes you think that this should be considered a bug? Just because Chrome acts differently doesn’t turns it into a bug.

          • Cobalt

From this moment I will ignore you. Sorry, but you are blind and do not see the obvious things =P

          • Leonardo Gomes

Sorry to say but there isn’t anything obvious on your report.

To be honest, many of your reports are hard to understand because you don’t say what exactly is wrong, clearly showing the steps to reproduce, expected results and actual results.

          • Cobalt

It seems that you are a Troll… Or just a very stupid person who doesn’t understand obvious things. In any case, I will continue to ignore you and your messages. Sorry.
            Arrivederci!

          • Leonardo Gomes

Right, you simply can’t clear explain what the problem you are reporting is and i am the troll?

Why don’t you just explain the problem, without just posting images that mean nothing, and we can end the discussion? I’m pretty sure that i am not the only one that would like to understand the problem.

I guess it shouldn’t be that hard to say “hey it is doing this but should be doing that and to see the issue happening you should do this and that steps”.

          • Cobalt

Illustrative screenshots, this is the best way to explain something.
If you’re not stupid, of course 😉

          • Leonardo Gomes

As a complement to help people understand what your are saying, maybe.
when it comes with nothing, no clear expolanation than they are just pictures with no meaning at all.

          • Cobalt

AGAIN: “If you’re not stupid, of course ;-)” © Cobalt

          • Leonardo Gomes

So you think that a picture showing a few extension icons, one of then with the mouse cursor over it, means something? I’m pretty it mena nothing for 99,9% of people.

          • Cobalt

AGAIN: “It’s a bug! Just compare the appearance and behavior of these elements:” © Cobalt

            P. S. You plug in every hole? =D

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Reporting this one too.

          • Cobalt

            Already…

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Reporting your comment i mean.

          • Cobalt

            I don’t understand.

          • Leonardo Gomes

What appearance and what behavior? Compared to what? How it should looks and behave? This is what you should explain so people can easily understand the problem.

However, it seems that you simply can not say that. Probably because there is no problem at all.

          • Cobalt

First, the developers are not idiots! Secondly, I do not perfectly know English to explain everything in detail. So I explain as much as I can, whether you like it or not.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Okay, but maybe you can try a little bit more to explain things better. Some of your reports show that you can do it if you want.

Also, i think you should take into consideration that a different behaviour than other browsers is not a bug. Unless, of course, if you are referring to how a site behave in Opera differently than in other browsers. In this case it may be a bug.

          • L33t4opera

            Giovanna – Arrivederci ….. …, adiós, Hasta Mañana 😉
But seriously, could you at least try to be more polite, please?

  • redfox

What’s wrong with accessing FTP + VPN turned on? Opera VPN servers are a smaller security risk than sending a FTP credentials unencrypted at all.
I’d like to have a VPN keyboard shortcut available in Opera 39 Stable.

    • Leonardo Gomes

AFAIK, FTP traffic doesn’t go through VPN.

  • Cobalt

Pop-up window of edit thumbnails function in a folder on the Speed Dial is not centered

    DNAWIZ-4432

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Why it should be?

    • jedy123

It is centered on OSX but looking at your screenshot, doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal.

    • Aneta Reluga

Dropdown menus are rarely ever centered (unless for specific reasons), but nevertheless – thanks for your reports.

      • Cobalt

Ok, why this pop-up window is in the center? ~__^
        http://jpegshare.net/c2/94/c294080a006fb5049d10f22b8b6f1841.jpg.html

I’m talking not about the drop down menus!

Again: POP-UP WINDOW of edit thumbnails function in a FOLDER on the Speed Dial is not centered!!! Understand? =)

        • Leonardo Gomes

And why isn’t this one the bugged one?

Also, why the other one needs to be centered just because this one is?
And finally, what is the importance of it being centralized? It’s important that it works.

          • Cobalt

OMFG!!! It works through the ass! Try to change the window size with this pop-up window and compare the behavior ,-)

            Do you think that looks nice?! HAHAHA!!! LOL!!!!!11 xD It’s S-U-C-K-S ! ! !
And yeah, this is a BUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least a visual bug.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Change windows size? How many people keep doing it, specially while editing a SD?

OK, it may be a bug but not something that important.

          • Cobalt

            May be? Jesus Christ! It’s a B-U-G!!!
As I said, you are blind and do not see the obvious! And you’re just a blind fanatic of the Opera.

          • Zero Kiryu

And you’re a blind fanatic of the Chrome. Stop using Opera already if it’s THAT bugged to you and use only your precious Chrome which always “works fine” by your words.
            P. S.: I saw your comments on one of the Chrome’s blog called my-chrome.ru and there you do exactly the same thing as here but reversed (writing that Opera is the best browser ever and Chrome is completely unusable without extentions so you must be just a typical troll).

          • Jose Diaz

I blocked him ages ago and advised leonardo to not take him seriously

          • Zero Kiryu

Oh, thank you) That guy was really annoying.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Looking again, it seems to be a different issue unrelated to the fact of the edit dialog be centered or not.

          • Mikolaj Boc

            Vlad, c’mon, use polite language.

          • Cobalt

Ok. Just annoying stupid people who don’t notice obvious things.

  • iG0Lka

    Please repair the DNA-55627 !

    • Aneta Reluga

It’s logged and on our radar.

  • Cobalt

Display issues with Speed Dial =(

If you set a vivid image as the theme, the text under the thumbnails and some other elements are barely distinguishable: http://jpegshare.net/56/f0/56f0cff47ba52e32fe60bf2505c79bf2.jpg.html

If you set too dark image as the theme, you will not see the scroll bar: http://jpegshare.net/1d/8b/1d8b089b117937a73cb6814563892c59.png.html

I am stable version user, but I am gonna give some feature request or improvement, first, Give option in setting to always enable Power Saver mode and second, on History, after searching address such as facebookdotcom, give option to select all and remove them with one click.

  • Cobalt

    Serious? ^__^ “Material Design”?! “chrome://extensions/”??? =D

    LOL!!! =))

    • Cobalt

      It’s not a bug, it’s a feature! ^_^

      • Kai Ockendorf

Don’t get it! I enabled it & don’t see any changes…so what does this flag??

        • Leonardo Gomes

Probably nothing. It seems to be some Chromium flag that has no effect on Opera.

          • Cobalt

            http://disq.us/p/19vg9hz

            Yeah, sure… ^^

          • Leonardo Gomes

            And your point is….?

          • Cobalt

It doesn’t matter. Here someone is interested in my point of view? Seriously?

          • Leonardo Gomes

So you posted your comment for nothing, with no meaning , merely for posting? Weren’t you trying to show or prove something?

If so, then you are just proving that you are here for nothing other than trolling and complain about insignificant issues. In fact it seems that you do the last to allow you to do the first.

If you could grew up then maybe things could be better for you.

          • Cobalt

I think it’s time to ignore you and your annoying messages.
            You have me completely sick!

            P. S. And yes, the devil is in the details, if you didn’t know ,-)

          • Marko Koivuniemi

Assholes are also in the details.

          • redfox

            He’s a child I think.

          • Vux777

Chrome and Chromium are two different things
            Opera is based on Chromium

          • Cobalt

In fact, Chrome is based on Chromium too 😉

          • Jademarisa

            Ha ha

          • Kai Ockendorf

            Thanks for the explanation!

        • Leonardo Gomes

Material Design is something related to UI changes. Since Opera uses its own UI then it has no effect.

  • Cobalt

      Try checking with ad-blocker disabled.

      • sgrandin

No difference with any and all ad blocking on or off.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Okay, so it’s not the adblocker causing the problem.

Apparently Mozilla managed to get coloured emoticons in Windows 7. Firefox had coloured emoticons previously for a while on Win8, but not on 7. I don’t know exactly when, but it works on the latest Nightly:
    https://i.imgur.com/sKpPbVO.png
I thought it was OS limitation (:
Does Opera plan something similar? Neither Opera Nor Chromium displays them coloured.

PS: In order for 7 to have coloured emoticons, it needs to be up to date. More precisely, I think it’s this update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2729094

When is TAB STACKING coming back? V 1.2 already has it.

VPN isn’t quite working – address-search bar takes to country specific http://www.google.XX NOT google.com or google.com/ncr.

Even without VPN, address-search bar should take to google.com if google.com/ncr applied.

Along with tab stacking I request improvements to private browsing, ability to somehow save sessions – that would be private and protected, or perhaps private-protected bookmarks/speed dial folder. Hmmm.

    1. Are there any plans on expanding sync service (extensions, speed dial, news)? This is the main problem I have with Opera right now.
    2. Why doesn’t single click select the whole text on search bar like in the address bar?

    • L33t4opera

Hi, it should be available again, as soon as the announcement about new update will be published.
