Hello,

Today we move to version 31 with our new developer 31.0.1857.0 build. So far we’ve enabled Encrypted Media Extensions like Widevine DRM, while the rest of the features is hidden behind flags (happy hunting!). We will provide more information as we move on further into development of Opera 31.

Our changelog shows all the fixes and improvements, the biggest change being the bump to 44 version of Chromium as it always is with new Opera. After this major change, first developer builds can be more prone to cause some issues that you should be aware of:

Known issues

  • Some internal pages can’t be accessed, e.g. Print, Discover, Private window landing page is displayed incorrectly, Private window theme is missing
  • HTML5 videos are crashing renderer when using MSE
  • Changelog and download links

PS: Link to changelog doesn’t work!

      Edit: Now it does. 🙂

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Hi Mateusz! Thank you and welcome back!

      • Mateusz Madej

Thanks! I was always here, just mostly hiding behind my more outgoing colleagues 😀

      • Mateusz Madej

Thanks! I was always here, just mostly hiding behind my more outgoing colleagues 😀

    • SuperTommy

With more sync options coming behind flags, will you implement a way to opt out syncing e.g. passwords or history without messing with the flags? Now when the flags are enabled everything gets synced, but perhaps not everyone want that.

      • SuperTommy

Sorry, you actually have such a feature already… Should have checked Settings after enabling password sync. 🙂

    • Gustav Ekner

I’m waiting for l33t4opera’s comment with the new flags 🙂

      • SuperTommy

        #sync-passwords 😉

        • Gustav Ekner

          Yeees!

        • Great!! Now I just hope that this is added to the next Beta (both on Desktop and Android) and I may finally switch from Chrome to Opera.

Still, if Vivaldi adds good sync support + Chrome extension support (just as Opera is capable of), I may end up switching to it because it is a much more complete solution.

      • L33t4opera

Besides the #sync-passwords, there are 3 more, new flags:
        1. opera:flags#linux-libnotify-toasts – enables integration with libnotify desktop notification system (Linux only),

        2. opera:flags#gpu-rasterization-msaa-sample-count – specify the number of MSAA samples for GPU rasterization,

        3. opera:flags#enable-slimming-paint – use the slimming paint display lists for all drawing 😉

        • SuperTommy

Those are so weird I didn’t notice them, thanks. 🙂

        • Hecc-MA

They all scream DON’T TOUCH THIS!!

        • Zik

Cant understand what means third flag and what it does. =(

          • Vux777

so far, only screwed my scrollbars …

          • L33t4opera

Hi Zik, you can read more about it here:
            – “Detailed data is in this document“,
            – “Improvements are tracked at crbug.com/464910“.

    • L33t4opera

Hi Mateusz and Marcin, tell me if the link to the change log will be intact, you know I’m going to publish the post about the build on the forums 😉

      • Marcin Mitek

        It should be 🙂

        • L33t4opera

Thanks, better it would be 😛 unless you don’t want, that I publish it as usually 😉

          • Marcin Mitek

You are always welcome to do that.

            • L33t4opera

No problem at all, it’s always a pleasure, if I can be helpful 😉

        • L33t4opera

Please replace “30” with “31” in the header of the change log 😉

          • Marcin Mitek

            Snap. Fixed. Thank you 🙂

    • Sierra

Maybe, after two years it’s time to allow us to change the order of extension toolbar buttons.

      • SuperTommy

Strange how we are allowed to rearrange extensions in the sidebar, but not on the navigation bar.

      • Jin

And I’d like to have more than 12 extension icons on the toolbar (Possibly the limitation depens on the resolution? Anyway, I can have only 12 icons on 1366×768 display unlike other chromium based browsers).

    • Matheus Bombonato

After the sync for passwords can we have sync for the search engines? Please? ^^

    • Anonimo

ExtensionSidebarTest.SidebarVisibilityInMultipleWindows Where can I find more information about this?

      • Marcin Mitek

Asking us directly. We strip the changelogs from unnecessary things (in our opinion, like fixing our internal tests), but with a changelog that long, some things slip through.

        • Anonimo

Ok, great, so where do I find some docs on this? I have one more question, is it possible to get windowId where sidebar extension is showing? something like opr.sidebar.oncreated.window.id or something like that? It would be very helpful, because now I’m doing in a hackish way. I’m using chrome.windows.getCurrent, to get window.id, but current window is not always the correct one 🙂

          • ExtensionSidebarTest.SidebarVisibilityInMultipleWindows is just test if sidebar panel is showing correctly in multiple windows, nothing really fancy about this.

As for your second question we currently have no possibility for this. Could you give me some example use case for this? Perhaps if we find it valid enough we could extend our API.

What you mean by chrome.windows.getCurrent not working correctly? As in some bug in implementation?

            • Anonimo

No, it’s not working incorrectly, it’s working fine. As an example for what I want; install my extension (simple vertical tabs), open few windows with some tabs. Set in options “Continue where I left off” before you restart. Exit Opera from menu->exit with sidebar open and with my extension active. Now run opera again. What you will see is that in each window with sidebar you will end up with tabs from current window and not from sidebar’s window. I can’t find a way to check in which window sidebar is! What I want is, is to have a window id for each sidebar and not for active window.
As for ExtensionSidebarTest, I may check it out if I can use it… For example start on mouse hover when sidebar is in more windows, but it’s not a clean solution for me.

            • Vux777

I would suggest that you extend API with some sort of side bar object basic info (especially width) that can be fetched with JS. Also, method for creating/starting SB extension would be cool (like chromium apps have methods chrome.app.window.create). It can listen in bg for msg’s and act accordingly (open/close). Even faking click on SB button would do. So far there’s only listener onClicked
btw. SB in v31 is slower than before, especially dealing with favicons

            • For width you could always use CSS media queries or JS window attributes (width, height) inside sidebar panel element. Could even send those to background page through some messages if that’s where you need them.

As for opening sidebar we didn’t plan this currently as we’d need to review possible security implications, as this could probably be used for some malicious activity. Perhaps we’ll find time later to revisit this and check if it would be safe to implement.

            • Vux777

no, I meant that other extensions can be aware of sidebar’s width (something like publicly available API for all JS code)

for security, you could just force (make strict) that sender.id is necessary on those messageExtenal listeners that fire up extension, so that there is no possibility for man in the middle

            • Security is more about just extension opening it’s panel. You also need to consider opening of UI without user action which might scare bunch of regular users. Also this could be used by malicious extensions that would just annoy users by having their sidebar opened all the time.

Could you explain use case for getting the sidebar’s width? Can’t really think of anything that couldn’t be achieved by using window.innerWidth and window.outerWidth. Is there any case where you would need exact value of sidebar width in current window?

            • Vux777

this is actually different problem that I thought, wasn’t aware of it until now. It’s about my extension that calculates click based on screen dimensions. Soon after publishing it, Opera introduced Side bar, so I thought problems that I experienced was because of it (didn’t test it on different OS zoom prior to that).

Problem is that Opera is serving devicePixelRatio multiplied with OS zoom.

Chrome doesn’t (I thought it was general thing).
On test page, you can see differences between Chrome and Opera on same OS zoom environment (without browser zoom). Chrome is displaying dpr 1, while Opera gives 1.25 (from OS). When browser zoom is introduced in Opera things get messy, because screen dimensions of browser window are left in scale of OS zoom, while page is giving multiplied result of those ratios (os zoom * browser zoom). I think it’s impossible to distinguish those two things (and thus, all logic based on screen dim. is failing).

That’s why on Chrome, popup is correctly positioned,…… but not in Opera too.

I’m not sure is this purposely left that way or something slipped under your radar (when making changes in window API)

            • I’ve checked it and in my opinion this looks like some problem in chrome. When I’ve set system zoom on Windows to 150% it showed devicePixelRatio on both Opera and Chrome as 1.5. For some reason this doesn’t work correctly for 125% zoom on chrome and it shows 1.25 value.

            • Vux777

I’ve reported a bug related to this

one more thing, FF reports 1.25 DPR but also gives screen.width/height in that scale (Opera screen.width is 1920, FF screen.width is 1536)

            • Vux777

can you pls reply, is this behavior gonna stay this way?
              about devicePixelRatio

            • Anonimo

I have problems with favicons too, often I get undefined and I can’t find a way to solve it, it was working fine with previous build tho. Oh, and one more thing, internal pages have now browser:// url instead of opera://

            • Vux777

yea, I was asking around when it happened.

dev’s confirm it (not on that forum)

            • Vux777

              I know I’m repeating myself but…
Vertical button and resizing sideBar with mouse wheel over buttons list would give much comfort in using it

            • Not really sure what you mean by this. Could you explain exactly in some steps what you would like to achieve? Currently I just can’t come with anything that would be comfortable with vertical buttons and resizing with mouse wheel.

            • Vux777

I’ve been playing with SB concept for the last year. This is from my chromium app. Vertical button on mouse hover and mouse wheel over buttons menu for changing width. Hope it explains better

            • Thanks for suggestion. Forwarded this to our UxG team. We are planning to improve in future design for sidebar so another suggestion might come handy. Not really finding that much use for general user base for the resize on buttons menu but forwarded it too.

            • Vux777

once you try it, you can’t live without it ツ
and also fast opening SB just by clicking far left (especially easy in maximized windows)
the only problem I see with resizing, is rendering of the main browser frame (choppiness)

    • Alex

The bookmarks page seems to be fixed finally! Yet when adding a bookmark. the folders don’t appear in the list.

    • Bug in Opera Developer installer for Mac, it should not force quit the dock when installing (non auto update, I did that since it had been failing to modify the get info area of the modified date) (it is very annoying to lose the place (the order they are minimized in the dock) of all the windows that were minimized in other apps)

I have been using Opera since 9.2

      • rrzepecki

        1. This is not a bug. We need to restart dock to be able to inject the app to it.

        2. It works for me. Do you have any extensions installed?

        • 1 Tho it is very annoying to have 20 or so Windows that were minimized in a order just all get forced upon the user (and lose the order that they were minimized in the dock), also I would think it should respect the setting that is already there (I already had Opera Developer 31 was testing to see if the install again would fix the quit breaking and to fix the get info data to be updated correctly (which is was not doing since November of last year)

2 Only WOT in developer stream (I try not to have much in dev stream builds, I have a few more in beta stream but not much)

    • serendipity1002

Yes.Finally, password sync! next would be extensions & themes sync then I can finally be able to ditch chrome for good
And I’d like to report a bug: Some scrollbars and drop down menus are displayed in classic windows style like this https://dl.pushbulletusercontent.com/nc96wzkrF2f0eX6oeo4KTTAT99EeQwjL/Fullscreen%20capture%2007052015%20223032.bmp.jpg ; also occur when selecting language in Settings. This happened since I upgraded to Windows 10 build 10074.

      • SuperTommy

Firefox gets the same scrollbar as well, so I assume they use Windows native buttons and design. Which probably is not final in Windows 10 yet.

        • serendipity1002

that’s what I assume too, there has been a lot of visual changes made to windows 10, probably this one is messed up in the process.
Also, it seems that you are using latest w10 build, when you ‘snap’ opera window to the right side of the screen, does that window (from the address bar down) become kinda unresponsive? However, release it from the snapped state, dragging around then snap it back then the window returns to normal? This happened when I upgraded to newest build (fast ring), previously i would uninstall opera (everything) then reinstall the problem is fixed, but not anymore.

      • Hecc-MA

        Enable Overlay Scrollbars in flags.

    • Olli

I wanted to say that the redesigned toolbar for OS X (hidden in flags since several developer builds) looks awesome. Sadly, Opera crashes when having this flag enabled under this circumstance:
Several tabs opened in one window –> window is closed cia click on X without closing any tabs first -> Opera crashes. I know, it’s still flag, but maybe this is easy to fix. This is no regression and present since the flag has been available.

      • rrzepecki

I am glad you like it. Thanks for reporting the problem… we will fix it soon 🙂

        • bwat47

good to hear, I look forward to being able to use the new toolbar, it looks great!

    • wolkenspalter

Is password sync enabled by default? I do not want to update and send my crownjewels to the cloud….

      • SuperTommy

        No, disabled by default.

      • Ice cream

If you enable the “sync-passwords” flag, you can change it in the “browser://settings/syncSetup”.

        • AKRRKA

          browser://flags/?search=sync#sync-passwords

    • Sidney Moraes

I enabled the new discover interface to see it, now discover is not working in the old style.

      • SuperTommy

It didn’t work beforehand either, known issue!

    • Wando Schneider

You should add the sync problem to the “known issues”. It is very latency in recent weeks.

      • Leonardo Gomes

Afaik it’s a server issue not an Opera’s one.

        • Wando Schneider

In my opinion, being a server issue or not, the feature doesn’t work properly. Either way, affects the browser.

          • Leonardo Gomes

I’ll need to check more but it seems that even with the constant disconnections from the server, sync is working.

            • Leonardo Gomes

I needed to logout and login again on Opera fort Android but at least bookmarks and opened tabs are syncing.

            • SuperTommy

My tabs haven’t synced for weeks, and the old ones are still stuck there. Tried logging in and out, reinstalling. Don’t know what to do, delete my account and make a new one?

            • Leonardo Gomes

Now data seems to not be syncing here too. It seems a server error.

    • Ben Rawrles

I’m running 12.04 and this seems to be the first upgrade that just wont instal.

      opera-developer:
Depends: libfontconfig1 (>=2.9.0) but 2.8.0-3ubuntu9.1 is to be installed
Depends: libnss3 (>=2:3.14.3) but 3.17.4-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 is to be installed

      Any help?

    • Gordon Freeman

I think it is useful if you add a bookmark via heart icon then scroll the pictures with the mouse wheel to select.

    • taneli

Sounds aren’t working on some sites, for example http://www.jytkytys.fi/
      Works in O21.

      Win8.1×64

      • Leonardo Gomes

That example page is not working here on Win 10 too. Also not working in 29 and 30.

        • taneli

O21 still remains the latest usable build 🙁 (later ones are unusable when doing CPU heavy stuff such as rendering 3D or doing simulations, just renders the browser unusable while your computer works, and you would like to browse the web, hence i rather use IE than Opera)

          • Hecc-MA

O27 and on perform pretty much decently.

    • escruting

Is there a way to disable the tab previews when using alt-tab? Thanks.

      • Leonardo Gomes

        You mean Ctrl Tab?

You can disable “Show tab previews” in settings but there is no way to do it only for a specific situation afaik.

        • escruting

Yes, i meant ctrl-tab, sorry. That setting is already disabled, but its showing the previews on ctrl-tab anyway…

          • Leonardo Gomes

Hmm, that’s true. Don’t know if it’s a bug or something related to latest changes in tab cycling.

          • Wando Schneider

You need to access the “shortcut manager”, and set the “Switch left through tabs” and “Switch right through tabs” to use CTRL + Tab and CTRL + SHIFT + Tab in order to restore the old way to cycle. 🙂

            • escruting

I didnt had time to test this until now, sorry. I did what you said and its switching in the old way, but without the recently used order… (the option to cycle with recently used order is enabled).

              Thanks.

            • Wando Schneider

AFAIK, Now there’s 2 shortcuts, one to cycle in this order, and another to usual (left from right). What they did: CTRL + Tab cycle in most used order, and CTRL + 1/2 in the old way.

            • escruting

So, there’s no way to cycle in the old way (no tab preview, no need to release the CTRL key to show the page) AND with recently used order, right?

            • Wando Schneider

I think. But we will need some confirmation 😛 Tomorrow i’ll test to confirm that.

            • escruting

              Okay, thanks Wando.

          • rrzepecki

Tab cycling was designed to show tab preview and tab menu in activity order when using ctrl + tab. There is a different shortcut for switching tabs, but you can change those shortcuts here opera://settings/configureCommands

            • escruting

              Oh, i see. Thanks guys.

            • escruting

But with the switching tabs shortcut it will not cycle in the recently used order…. :S

    • I can see only the 28.0.1750.11 build as the newest instead of O31. Has anybody this problem, too? (I speak about offline installer)

      • Leonardo Gomes

As i replied to another person, i’m getting 29.0.1795.47 here.

    • PaulW

Why is the Opera developer link on the right side still showing version Opera_Developer_28.0.1750.11_Setup.exe?? For some reason my version 30 won’t update by it’s self.. I updated it from the link above but I don’t like doing this as there is no info in the file name to say what it is..

      • Leonardo Gomes

        Here i get Opera_29.0.1795.47_Setup.exe

Maybe they stopped updating those links?

Well, you can download from here

    • PaulW

Nice to see that the Show Passwords has been fixed..

    • Nick Monte

“Opera menu->Bookmarks->My folders” shows “empty”, while bookmarks manager shows everything under “My Folders” as it should be.
On Extensions tab clicking the “Hide from toolbar”checkbox does nothing, its state is not saved.

Many extensions have that “Contact developer to request an update” button.
      Anybody’s having these issues too?

      • Vux777

yes for extensions…couple of times it was blank page too
        ……..
and this build in general is very buggy…I had two crash so far…and some other freakish details..
opening blank side bar and so on….

        • Nick Monte

So we can consider this Opera Developer as Opera Developerer :-). After an hour of tilting at windmills it’s time to keep ourselves out of mischief, close Opera and wait for tomorrow.

        • Jin

Switching to another tab is always causing a concurrent crash on all tabs.
          (Windows 7 x86 / Debian Jessie i386)

As long as using only one tab and (as written in “Known issues”) avoiding html5 videos, I can use this build without the crash.

      • Extension issues are related to changes that came from chromium https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=461039. We are still adjusting our implementation to use developerPrivate API so there are issues still. Problem with hidding buttons is already fixed in DNA-38196 and should be available in next developer build.

    • Alexander

      Opera, where are you going?)
      – I cant reload/update speed dial preview image;
      – I cant open torrents without saving them first;
      — but now everyone may open my O and see history very easily)
      – I cant view image exif info;
      – I cant even block pop-up on specific site, cause I don’t see page preference menu..

and please make possibility to show bookmarks in row like now, but without displaying www addresses, so it will be a list of bookmarks in two rows/

      • Wando Schneider

        – I cant reload/update speed dial preview image;
        – Access the page, and click on the heart menu. On the pop-up, you can choose the imagem.

        • Alexander

yes it works in this way…but why just to retain “reload” when pressing on the speed dial. For example, when you need to see overall picture of all your sites in speed dial page.

          • Wando Schneider

Yes. Speed dial is a work in progress. I think they will work on that in the next versions.

WTF when launch Opera will open site:hao123.com
I think is a ugly setting in Opera, and you will lost your china user, please remove it.

      • Leonardo Gomes

If you have not set that page to open with Opera then maybe you have a malware in your computer.

        • wtfopera

Thanks for your reply, but you don’t know what happened in China. In my computer, only Opera look like malware now 🙂

              我现在怀疑的是,中国区这边的运营部分向default_partner_content.json文件中同步了这段代码,opera本部可能不太清楚这回事,就算要处理,也要在之间沟通,,

          • Leonardo Gomes

Really i don’t know but it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a malware.

          • qian wang

I don’t think so, you can check the other popular browsers in China, including 360 browser, QQ browser and so on.

        • wtfopera
        • wtfopera
          • Leonardo Gomes

Hao123 seems to be a malware. There are some pages with instructions on how to remove it.

            • bwat47

as far as I can tell its not actually malware, just some popular chinese directory listing site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hao123

The link talking about removal seems to be talking about a separate hao123 toolbar that commonly comes pre-installed on chinese computers, sounds like typical oem preinstalled crapware/adware to me not necessarily malware.

I agree its quite puzzling if opera 31 is opening this page on launch for chinese users though :/

      • bwat47

This is not something opera would be doing, you’ve got browser hijacking malware on your computer or something…

        • wtfopera

Opera had cooperated with 3721 in China, and 3721 was a famous malware in China 🙂

          • Leonardo Gomes

I don’;t think Opera would cooperate with a malware creator.

      • Jin

Although I honestly couldn’t believe wtfopera at first, he/she seems to be right after all.

I cannot confirm the setting in the client though, since I live in Germany.

But as posted you can confirm the lines in “default_partner_content.json”:

        “custom_start_pages”: {
        “location”: {
        “cn”: {
        “other”: [
        “http://www.hao123.com/index.html?tn=94475379_hao_pg”
        ]

Maybe you need to ask Opera to abort it, or else just overwrite the json file if possible.
The only question is just, why Opera is going to do such a stuff which can break Opera’s image. Of course we know that almost every project and company needs sponsors to maintain itself, but still the method and the way to realize it are depending on the case more important.

        • Leonardo Gomes

          That is really strange.

    • DRM is opposed to open the web, isn’t it?

      • NoName

Sure, but without it, none of the movie/series providers are gonna use the web platform. It’s a necessary evil 🙁

      • Hecc-MA

Content is copyrigthed anyway, you don’t really gain much by removing DRM.

      • bwat47

Even firefox is implementing support for this drm, unfortunately there isn’t much that can be done, services like netflix are pressured into using drm by the content providers otherwise they won’t allow netflix to have access to their content, and this trickles down to the browsers as well, if the browser doesn’t implement the drm, then no netflix. Its a matter of balancing pragmatism and idealogy, gotta pick your battles. The other major browsers have already embraced this drm, so being the odd browser out just results in losing users, if joe user can’t use netflix in opera he will use another browser. The only way this DRM could have been realistically avoided would have been if the major browsers banded together against it, but that didn’t happen.

The only way to really get rid of DRM is starting at the top, the problem lies mostly with the content providers themselves, they won’t grant access to their content to services that don’t use drm.

The most frequently used internal Discover page and YouTube HTML5 does not work! 🙁
Very much I ask fix it without tightening for a week.

      • SuperTommy

Did you read the known issues before updating?

        • AKRRKA

Of course. I could see that these problems are known.
But I use only Developer version.
And these problems are very unpleasant.

          • SuperTommy

I use Developer as main too, but I don’t update if there are something that makes it annoying to use.

          • Hecc-MA

You use it at your own risk, report bugs, stop complaining.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Right, but this is the price you have accepted to pay for be able to access new features and changes earlier.

            • KarenArzumanyan

              Thanks!

      • L33t4opera

Hi, if you want, then you can try the new “Stand-alone Discover” page: go to the opera:flags#standalone-discover-page, select “Enabled” from the drop-down, and restart the Opera, go to the Discover page, and give it a while, to load all items 😉

        • KarenArzumanyan

          Thank you!

    • Ralf Brinkmann

What I’m ready and really waiting for now is syncing of the speed dials. I think you can start doing it. Thank you!

      • SuperTommy

You mean syncing without creating an own folder for each device, or syncing from mobile to desktop?

        • Ralf Brinkmann

My last sync was the old system with Opera 12.x. Now I need a new sync of all my speed dials from desktop to my mobile phone. I am not using any bookmarks in Opera >15.x, because it is a complete new way of bookmarking and has nothing to do with the old, usefull system, that could be called and used with keyboard shortcuts only. So the speed dials (at the moment) are better for my, but they are not synchronised yet.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

By the way: Does anybody know a possibility to convert or copy all my speed dials automatically to bookmarks? And keep them updated? I have never used the new bookmarks, but I suspect, that the way of using the address field for searching an address, that is already in the bookmarks, is the same: just start typing and Opera will find the corresponding entry. Right?

            • Leonardo Gomes

Speed Dial is part of bookmarks now. Just open the bookmark’s manager and go to the Speed Dial “folder” to see them.

So i guess you can use the address bar to find pages that are in SD.

Don’t know a way to keep them updated.

            • Ralf Brinkmann

Ah, now I see! But they are not part of the bookmarks manager in my Android smartphone. Even if I select them all (a button “Select All” would be nice). They are only shown, if I copy them to the “My Folders” item. I hope, this will be improved the next days. Thank you Leonardo.

            • Leonardo Gomes

I can see my SDs from my Opera for Android at the folder “Other Speed Dials”.

However i can’t see my desktop SDs in my Opera for Android.

I guess SD sync in Opera for Android is not fully working yet.

            • SuperTommy

That is correct, SD does not sync to mobiles yet.

              https://www.opera.com/help/account#sync

            • Ralf Brinkmann

              What I don’t understand:
In the Bookmarks Manager (CTRL-Shift-B) I can copy all my speed dials to the bookmarks folder “My folders”. They are visible in the left, grey part of the window below “New folder” and in the right, white part of the window, when I click on “My folders”. But if I open the [O]pera menu => “Bookmarks” => “My folders” it’s empty. Just as the “Bookmarks bar”. Shouldn’t all these bookmarks also be visible there?

            • SuperTommy

Seems to be a bug introduced in O30, happens in both beta and developer, but not in stable. I sent a bug report for you!

            • Ralf Brinkmann

Thank you for your explanation and for sending the bug report!

            • SuperTommy

SD do not sync to mobiles yet!

That should be changed. Now. For me. 🙂

            • SuperTommy

Hey Ralf, the new beta version of Opera for Android sync Speed Dials now, check it out on the Play Store. 🙂

            • Ralf Brinkmann

Oh really! It works!! Those littles squares in the speed dials and tabs on the smartphone look a bit funny, but ok, I have all my open pages and my speed dials. Thank you!

            • Wando Schneider

Opera mini does it too. 🙂

            • Ralf Brinkmann

The new Opera Final for Android can do better. 🙂 Just received the update.

      • wtfopera

Yes,synchronization of speed dials is incomplete.

    • Maciej Gryniuk

Yay, just yesterday tried to fix broken addon with %appdata% (unfortunatelly could be fixed only with fresh %appdata%, so I need some day manually migrate settings :/) and thought that I broken something on two the same opera’s instances (updated first when saw that 31 is available) because can’t see extensions list and print page.
So, have to do something else on localhost website project :/

      • I have the same problem. I can’t see the extensions in the addons maintenance. 🙁

Although, I can see in the known issues section the inner pages problem.

      • Already fixed in internal build, there was bug with displaying error messages in extensions manager which caused this blank list issue.

    • Peter Henkel

Still no persistent pinned tabs. Sigh!

      • Cryio

Huh? What do you mean? Pinned tabs work fine.

        • Peter Henkel

But they are lost after restart.

          • Marko Koivuniemi

Cannot confirm that. Pinning works just fine. But now I remember you don’t like use saved session but just need to open pinned tab always when program starts. That would be nice feature for example in corporate environment.

            • Peter Henkel

And it would be on par with Firefox and Chrome. Pinned tabs there work like they should: Always pinned no matter what.

            • Wando Schneider

You’re Right. I think that persistent pinned tabs will come in the next version, as part of the Opera Sync (Persistent and synced pinned tabs).

          • Cryio

Oh. Didn’t try anything beside the 29 stable, so I didn’t know 😀

that would be battlelog’s fault, they are browser sniffing and not recognizing the dev version’s user agent as a supported browser.

If you use a user agent switching extension and mask as opera stable or google chrome it works fine.

    • Laga Mahesa

Is it possible to prevent auto-update?

          Aha, cunning! 🙂

    • Nerdebeu

      Two questions:

Why since ‘Widevine Content Decryption Module’ is activated, playback of Netflix is still impossible without Silverlight ?

Since Opera 15, reading my videos (MP4) stored on onedrive is totally impossible. (the play does not start without warning, or an error message may be displayed).

The problem is the same with Opera Stable, Opera Beta and Opera Developer, with or without extension that could block, and even with a completely blank profile. While I can read without any problems with Chrome, Iron, Vivaldi, Firefox, and obviously IE. Why?

      • SQL

You should try changing your UserAgent-string to Chrome with an addon that does that, and see if it works without Silverlight. If it does then it’s netflix not serving the Opera UA-string users the Widevine.

        • Nerdebeu

Thanks, it works with User-Agent Switcher, but, in the extension, I had to edit Chrome user agent from 27 to 42, otherwise it does not work.

Hum… No idea for vidéos in OneDrive ? 😉

      • Leonardo Gomes

As Opera had not been supporting widevine until now, Netflix needed to send the silverlight player.

When widevine support reaches stable channel then maybe Netflix will change it.

        • Nerdebeu

User Agent switcher is the solution.

But for playing my videos in OneDrive, I would like that you (or someone else) explain to me the problem,

          • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve tried here and the video just did not played without showing any error message as you said.

Have no idea on what could be causing this. Maybe you should file a bug report.

            • Nerdebeu

As I said, I never could play a video in OneDrive since Opera 15. With all other browsers using Webkit/Blink, and so that Firefox or even… Opera 12. It is possible. You cannot frankly talk about a bug for something that never worked since switching to Blink.

    • A. R.

Tab stacking is needed, it was a grand feature.

      • Denyer

        And side-tabs…

              I do…

Snappier in the latest update. They’re working on that specifically. It’s always been acceptably fast on my system since before TP2, but in latest snapshot, some of the feedback, especially on tabs, is instantaneous.

    • yugaa

Tab moving by Ctrl+Shift+PgUp/PgDn (or customisable hotkeys) is needed.
      Also pin-tab by hotkeys.

    • Rick

Thanks for the new updates. For me, personally I would really love Tab Stacking and Tab Scrolling. Tab Scrolling is the Right Mouse Button feature from Opera 12. I know there are 2 add-ons which offer this but I tried them and they don’t work very well. I am also still a fan of Dragonfly and I still use it on Opera 12, but I guess I can accept it wont be back.

      • Marc

Ctrl + [1-9] to open the corresponding speed dial page would be nice, too! Or giving us the option to configure shortcuts for it.

    • Vux777

there is a big difference in fetching default (not existing) favicon in new O31 with JS. No matter which pattern is used, chrome or browser, default page favicon is slow.
In beta, with old “opera://…”, it’s much faster.

    • Vux777

can you bring back that snappy side bar opening from first versions?
this one that slides in takes too long to load content (and it’s not about animation), in stable is couple of times faster…and resizing in stable is smoother

In Etension manager “Hide from toolbar” for any extension NOT WORK! – reset on restart in this version Opera.

      and

      “Opera developer
      Windows (Offline)” –
      It offers download “Opera_Developer_28.0.1750.11_Setup.exe” – NOT 31

      • Hiding extension buttons is already fixed internally.

Download link works fine for me currently.

        • led9ru

“Download link” from windows 8 = no problem, 31

          from windows xp = Opera_Developer_28.0.1750.11_Setup.exe

i try from IE, from Opera 30 = not 31.

          • I can confirm this works as you’ve described on Windows XP. I will forward this to our distributions team.

Anyone else having issues with using Java with Opera? The prompts never come up. I have to use IE every time I need to use a site that uses Java. Currently using latest dev on Win 10 x64 but I’ve had the issue since the early 20’s and Windows 8.

      • mb

“Disable NPAPI” flag is disabled and Java plugin is enabled.

      • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve tested here and it doesn’t seem to be working.

I can see a warning if i go there with Opera 29 or 30:

“We have detected you are using Google Chrome and might be unable to use the Java plugin from this browser. Starting with Version 42 (released April 2015), Chrome has disabled the standard way in which browsers support plugins.”

With those versions (29 and 30), Java works.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

I have tried it out now. It seems that I have the same problems under Win 7×64. On the Java test page that Leonardo wrote I don’t see any action. The place behind “Veryfying Installation – Detecting Java on your computer” stays empty. With Firefox and Vivaldi it works, I’m asked if I want to activate Java. In Chrome I receive the same message as Leonardo. But I can open the SWR3 studiocam (http://www.swr3.de/studiocam-beta/ ), because I have put this page into the exception list in the Java control panel. That’s the only way how it works.

    • Please return back “Speed dial” section in bookmarks. When I installing Opera on the new PC, I oftenly copying best SD of my other installations to the new PC speed dial.

      • Der Herr Nick

It ist there, just have a closer look…

        • Ralf Brinkmann

It would really be very nice if you tell us where you found it. We are talking about the speed dial section on the left side in the “tree”, not the button in the navigation bar on the right side.

Edit: Ok, I found it. You have to set “browser://flags/?search=bookm#trees-in-bookmarks” to disabled, then you can see it. I thought it has to be just the other way round.

          • Vux777

            you need to enable
            opera://flags/#favorites-bookmark-backend

            • This option is already enabled.

            • Vux777

              It’s weird
Before I had trees and backend enabled, and it was working
but after testing it just couple of min ago…(disable -enable)
stopped working (no more speed dial)…then I had to disable tree in bkm’s …and it show again

            • Ralf Brinkmann

It’s enabled (standard). I think, skobkin is right. Last time it worked here and there was no need for me to change any flag.

          • Der Herr Nick

Ooops, it’s not visible for everyone? Didn’t know that. Can’t remember to have changed the respective flag.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

You have to set “browser://flags/?search=bookm#trees-in-bookmarks” to disabled, then you can see it.

        • So…If I want to use tree of bookmarks and be able to access to other PC speed dials?

          • Ralf Brinkmann

That’s what I just found out – in this version. I’m not the specialist for bookmarks. Maybe somebody else can say if something changed.

            • It seems that in some of previous builds I was able to use both features in the same time. But I can not be 100% sure.

            • Vux777

              opera://flags/#favorites-bookmark-backend

            • Ralf Brinkmann

              Is enabled (standard).

            Maybe Tuesday.

            • L33t4opera

              It’s done 😉

    • David B

I was really excited about that change:

      “DNA-36803 [Linux] implement libnotify notifications”

But the desktop alerts are still using the old ugly grey pop ups instead of notify-send. 🙁

    • I understand that is dangerous version and I could disable auto-updates (but when I did it, I perhaps never update it anymore due forgetting), but for me as developer it is inconceivable to keep so bugged version in 18 days.

When I fail (for example had time when game addon was crashing servers!) first I am disabling bugged version from download then fixing it and only I am doing is repair bugs as fast as possible and push it as alpha.

I won’t have third Opera’s installation copy to just revert to previous version to be able to work. If you don’t going to releasing fatal bugs fixes faster, you should add “unupdate” system.

I am making slowly nervous, because my other work is ending and the next needs Print and Extensions pages.

      • Wando Schneider

Why you don’t use beta channel to avoid this bugs?

        • I am using extra developers tools as I am website’s developer.

          • Wando Schneider

Only out of curiosity: What extra developer tools?

    • TheMountainGoat

I’ve just moved to opera-developer 31.0.1857.0 (from opera 12.16) for 32 bit linux.

Overall very nice but I’m having trouble with bookmarks: I imported all my opera 12.16 bookmarks and moved them to a subfolder of My Folders (from the unsorted bookmarks where they appeared after import).

However they still don’t show under the Opera -> Bookmarks -> My Folders menu. Is that correct?

I miss the opera 12.16 bookmarks menu, so helpful when one has 30 folders with dozens of bookmarks in each. I especially miss the opera 12.16 setting that made a left click open a bookmark in a different tab. The bookmarks by the side extension replicates that behavior, which I think was unique to opera.

    • L33t4opera

The entry “My folders” in the Opera menu (Opera => Bookmarks => My folders) is still empty. Is this only a problem of the translation and it means something different from “My folders” in the bookmarks tree?

Unsorted bookmarks are also missing, so I assume it’s not intended.

I got a black screen on startup
            –disable-gpu shortcut helped

            • Ditto. 31.0.1876.0 yields only black screens for all webpages on Windows 7 with AMD Radeon HD 7540D (including the opera://settings, which made it quite challenging to disable hardware acceleration). Disabling hardware acceleration though restored visibility of all frequented websites (though YouTube and Hulu were pixelated). Switched back to the Stable version 29.0.1795.60 for now, but the previous developer version just before the auto-update was solid for me.
