Thanks for the update Marcin 😉

    • Marcin Mitek

I see I have to upload a Hi-res image of my mutt, as it looks terribad in this layout. 😉

      • L33t4opera

If I may suggest you something else in this regard :> please consider to replace it with this one, which is quite unique and cool 😉

        • Sidney Moraes

What is the use of md5 checksums?

          • L33t4opera

In this particular case, just to check if the file is ok – to recognize a corrupt or incomplete download.

          • twm

Aren’t the excecutable digitally signed any way?

          • Leonardo Gomes

This is another thing. One is for you and your OS to know that the file came from Opera and the other is for you to check if the download is ok.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Check file integrity. You can check it the md5 of the file you downloaded matches the official one.

        • Marcin Mitek

This one is the only acceptable I have.

          • L33t4opera

This one is also ok 😉

Lol, you actually did it 😉 That is really cool approval!

          • Guest
        • MD5 for checksums? MD5 as SHA1 is less trustable for integrity.

It would be better to sign the installer file with a PGP signature.

Why did I get an popup window asking if I want to update it?

    • What is your OS and are you running as a user with admin privileges?

      • Sidney Moraes

The OS I was using is Windows 8.1 Pro 64bits and running with admin privileges.

    • Leonardo Gomes

After or before you have updated it?
I get this popup since a while ago when updating a build.

      • Sidney Moraes

        • Leonardo Gomes

So it’s normal, i guess. Just a warning about a new version being available.

          • Sidney Moraes

            The update should be silent.

          • In GNU/Linux version, the updates are via repositories.

  • Spideymang

Thank you for the info Marcin and thank you all Opera team! Greetings from Mexico

  • No

Hmm. Other than your awesome pic, nothing else here is worth attention 🙁

    • Marcin Mitek

It’s a standard bugfixing/stability upgrade. It’s hard to be excited, I understand that, but we still want to deliver fixes on a steady manner. And we wanted to update just before the holiday break.

      • Cryio

Thank you for one last update. Eagerly awaiting O27 next year.

  • Any plans on having Bing back?

    • L33t4opera

Hi, if you don’t want to use DDG as the default one, you can still use this workaround – with one exception: go to the 26.0.1656.60resources subdir, and copy the downloaded file to it.

      • You’re great, this makes my day 🙂 I did what you suggested and it works, thank you!

        • reesmichael1

          You’re great

          Isn’t he/she though? 😉

          • L33t4opera

One of the greatest was for sure Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, but I must admit, that I like Computer Science, in particular I’m interested in computer security issues 😉

          • Fine, fine, you were the right man in the right place at the right time. Better? 🙂 Still, that was amazing. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Computer sciences, security issues in particular, are fascinating 🙂

          • L33t4opera

I’m glad, that I could help 😉 Happy Holidays!

          • Thank you 🙂 Happy Holidays to you too, @L33t4opera:disqus !

        • L33t4opera

This is the idea of Candytaco, so in this case I’m merely the “messenger of good news”, for some of the users of course 😉

          • @Candytaco is one amazing guy, too 🙂

    • wasapasserby

This comment explains that it’s not currently allowed due to legal reasons, likely due to the Microsoft licensing deal expiring.

      • Helge Andre Gjølme

That’s not really what the post says.

        • Guest

Read between the lines in the thread 😉

        • Guest

          Double post.

      • I doubt money are involved in this issue. One can add tons of search engines in Firefox and in Chrome and make them default. I know in Mozilla for sure. It’s ilogic that all those search engines actually pay Mozilla and Google to have them allowed in their browsers.

This thing, Opera choosing DDG over Bing, seems more like something they thought is better, that’s all.

What would be better tho… is to have all the seach engines available to be set as default. Maybe soon.

The ‘b’ option in front of the searches is no good, it doesn’t offer ‘prediction’ searches and sometimes the letter changes back to the default engine search shortcut, a bug, which makes the whole thing even more annoying.

And the solution @L33t4opera:disqus suggested works just fine. Should be mentioned that Opera needs to be closed when replacing the files otherwise you end up with Google only. I think it’s mentioned in the link offered but I skipped that first and well…

Conclusion, it’s good to have Bing back.

  • Saw

    Thanks for the information 😉
    Merry Xmas!

  • Khairul Skmt

I hope get the early xmas present from all of you dev guys! Huhuhuhu! …… and see you all later next year!

  • Wando Schneider

Marcin, any plans for a developer update this year? 🙂

    • We have had at least two developer releases lined up but they had major issues. We’ll try to get you one before Christmas!

      • Wando Schneider

Hi Ruarí! Is always you who bring us really good news 🙂 ! Thanks!! PS: I saw the new photo.. but i think that Marcin won this time.

        • Not everyone can look as smart as him!

          • Marcin Mitek

I did my best impression there.

  • Wraith

I hope we get an developer update too.!

  • Lacedaemon

When is the native HTML5 MP3 support for Vista coming? Chrome has it, Firefox has it, is the licensing that expensive to you?

    • We have it.

      • Lacedaemon

Ok, thanks, you have it somewhere, but when do we get it? In which future version? Because here on the same machine, Chrome and Firefox are playing html5 mp3s fine, but O25, 26 stable and O27beta don’t.

        • What OS and what version do you have?

          • Lacedaemon

            Vista 32-bit Home Edition.

edit: To be more precise, it’s Vista 32-bit Home Basic Edition. Maybe you don’t support that one?

          • OK, I’ll leave one of the Windows guys to reply. It might not be available on Vista. Our method is very dependent on the OS version.

          • Guest
          • Lacedaemon

Which doesn’t :/ Anyway thanks for your time checking that for me. I’ll wait for someone from the Windows team to respond.

      • Hecc-MA

You look kind of… Heisenberg!!! just the hat is missing.

  • firuz-7

please do uvidomleniya to save password opened in the upper left corner of the page and translator and was also to expand Kaspersky was and could swing with chrome web Sided and when it will be for windows Opera x64, Just all browser switch to 64-bit version, and I would like to have my favorite browser Opera also switched to 64-bit, and if I can not difficult to find out why the expansion of Kaspersky does not work on Opera

  • MadEddy

    Merry Christmas to Opera team.

  • András Ács

After this update, mouse gestures stopped working, and as I started writing this post, realized that Opera wasn’t registering any keyboard input at all. Restarting the browser fixed it; I hope this doesn’t bite again:/ (Trusty, Xfce)

    Merry christmas to all, btw!

    • I disabled the hardware acceleration and the bug does not appears (Debian Jessie + XFCE 4.10).

      • András Ács

        Thanks! So it’s recurring?

Disabling HWA is not an option for me though — back to Chrome for now.

  • On http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/17/texas-plumber-work-truck-syria-terrorists_n_6341070.html?ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000067 Opera was constantly reloading part of the page causing just that tab to stat at 34% cpu usage even when in the background

    Opera 26.0.1656.60

    OS X 10.10.1 x64

    • The main reason of the constant reloads are the ad widgets that haves the website. In my case, it happens with the chilean website called Fayerwayer.

    • On the webpage are many ads with changing pictures, flash and videos, playing while loading.

This results im much CPU usage.

A adblocker like Adblock for Opera may help you 😉

      • Opera would not even obey me when I told it to stop reloading the page every 1 to 2 seconds (the tab favicon was the spinning reload)

Huffington post site seems to go in and out of having a CPU hogging site

  • dizzykei

Still waiting for option to disable copy with formatting.

    • eXzentrik

You can paste it unformatted in LibreOffice, Word 2013 and other applications with CTRL+Shift+V. But yes, I would like to see such an option, too.

      • A past as plain text

  • Thanks for the update, and the Opera sync tool works perfectly (I imported my Opera Link bookmarks to Opera 26 installing both versions on my Windows partition).

    • normanclegg

      STOP RESIZING PHOTOS you bastards.

LOOK AT THIS IN CLASSIC OPERA and in the new
      shitty googleinspired crappy Opera.
scientifically we need photos to appear as posted and NOT resized by Opera

  • Apocalypse

Two words for christmas: Tabs Overflow. Im so tired of this. Why we cant just have wrap to multiple lines. It is so annoying. Im thinking of swithing to Firefox after 11 years with Opera. Cant takie it anymore :-(.

  • aminiesta

Thank you team and happy holiday.

  • AS

@To Marcin Mitek or to any developer of the Opera

Adobe Flash Player PPAPI for Opera and Chromium doesn’t work properly or Opera/Chromium has some bug, because films on youtube in the HD quality are losing the quality, it’s see on this two screens:

IE11 Adobe Flash Player 16 ActiveX (Properly quality)

Opera26 Adobe Flash Player 16 PPAPI (Improperly quality) (The quality of the graphics and the text is weaker).

Please check this and in a pinch fix.

For a test I installed Mozilla Firefox browser (newest) and for it Adobe Flash Player 16 NPAPI and the quality of films on yt is properly, the same as in IE11, so please check it, cause maybe that the PPAPI for Opera/Chromium doesn’t work properly.

    • Sidney Moraes

The problem can be the flash player, can you test HTML5 player?

      • AS

How am I supposed to do it?

        • Helge Andre Gjølme

Request the HTML5 player by going to http://www.youtube.com/html5

          • SuperTommy

What’s the requirement to let YouTube enable the HTML5-player automatically as default? I assume that is something Google has to “activate”?

Reason for asking is because on W8.1 with IE11, which doesn’t support WebM VP8 and MSE & WebM VP9, the HTML5-player is used when possible.

          • SQL

It’s probably not auto-activated because Opera doesn’t support MSE & H.264. Afterall it’s Google reading Opera’s UA string and serving the Flash player by default. If Opera supported MSE with H.264 Google would probably start serving HTML5 to Opera by default. Microsoft has probably asked Google to serve HTML5 regardless of the fact that IE doesn’t support WebM’s.

          • Helge Andre Gjølme

            What SQL said.

          • Tho I do notice a Pepper Flash being laggy (tried with 2 movies on Hulu in Opera 27 beta, I also see choppy in Opera 26), one thing is a 10+ year old flash player bug, that seems to not affect Windows, only OS X (might be DirectX vs OpenGL performance work in flash)

          • AS

If I use HTML5 for the Opera the video looking good, but this video should look good in Opera without using HTML5, why you don’t fix this? Clicking on the use HTML5, Opera stopping using the function Adobe Flash Player and there are available only two formats to choose: 360p and 720p, so it isn’t a better solution, because other formats are disappearing: 480p, 240p, 144p. Just fix it.

          • Helge Andre Gjølme

How does it look when you use flash in Chrome for example?
If the same video is looking better in Chrome with Flash then it’s something we have to look into. I doubt this is the case however, so to be honest I don’t think this is anything we can “just fix”.

Missing formats are not there because youtube hasn’t converted the video to those formats. Or it might be h264 + MSE which isn’t supported for the time being.

          • AS

Unfortunately in the Opera and in Chrome video looks bad. Not yet so long ago in previous issues of Opera everything was all right, and now suddenly something is wrong, so you should consult it with people from Chrome, you are using their engine for the Opera, so you should report to them this bug, seriously I don’t understand something, every mistake which will appear in Chrome also appears in the Opera, it shouldn’t be in this way.

          • Helge Andre Gjølme

Sounds more like a difference between PPAPI Flash and NPAPI to be honest.

          • AS

I don’t understand what you mean.

        • Sidney Moraes

          If you want.

    • Is it any better after yesterdays update for Flash Player?

      • AS

Still is the same effect and it should look like on screen from IE11

  • name siname

Why bad work Flash Player on YouTube? In fullscreen mode video sometimes opens a separate window. Also rewind the video does not work until you move down and up page

    • beBoss

Flash on opera sucks at all, no only on youtube. Chrome works perfect, and why they break the flash, only they know….

  • Shion

I’m sure someone knows a way to remove CTRL+Enter shortcut. There is no option to do so and it is a reason for 1 bug and 1 major annoyance.

  • UMaster 7

cannot watch movies on Google Play Movies @ Win8.1×64 with latest Flash final. 🙁

  • Stępień Janusz

Panie Marcinie.Wersja 26.0.1656.60 zaczęła blokować mi niespodziewanie stronę logowania AliorBanku i BZWBK. Komunikat:”Połączenie nie jest poufne”.Co może być przyczyną? Firefox i stara Opera 12.17 otwierają w/w strony bez problemów.

  • Bjarne Bertelsen

Opera 26 really is weird on facebook

  • Bjarne Bertelsen

Can anyone confirm that Opera 26 behaves strangely on facebook? Sometimes impossible to comment or open links (opens the wrong one, not the one I’m pointing at). Macbook pro 2012 yosemite.

    • Not seeing it here OS X 10.10.1

Any extension you have (try disabling them one by one and testing Facebook)

The other thing is that a cache file might have gone bad (does it work fine in a private window?)

  • UMaster 7

visible transparency squares while fast scrolling on long webpages, e.g. http://bmv-medien.de/shop/timezone.php?page=all

  • Lukas

    Hey there,

are there ANY plans on bringing back “Opera Link”?

    Greetings from Berlin/Germany

    • UMaster 7

the’re working on it, but it’ll take some more time till its re-release for us 😉

  • UMaster 7

    no un+pw saving on http://go.guidants.com/ possible 🙁

  • Does the sound (music) work for anyone on http://christmasexperiments.com/experiments/xps/24/ (it is a WebGL site)

It worked fine in Safari 8

    OS X 10.10.1

    • Sound does not play on Windows 7.
      Loading Sound 100% and nothing.

  • Bjarne Bertelsen

There is something very wrong with Opera (mac) on facebook!

    • What are you seeing?

Also what version of OS X?

      • Bjarne Bertelsen

Well, the mouse sometimes doesn´t know where it is. Sometimes when I try to open a link, another link opens instead or sometimes the page just scrolls to another location and nothing happens. Sometimes it is impossible to write anything in a replybox (or what you call it). OS version is yosemite.

  • danielo

Are themes still only a lousy background change? I remember the days when you could control almost every pixel of the browser with themes, chromepera makes me sad ;(

  • Please add another search for unresolvable domains.

In current Opera 26 always the Google search mask is shown on error page, regardless that i dont have Google as standard search!.

  • Click to play does not work on http://ellentube.com/videos/0_ma4x1e5a

Also if you have developer tools open on http://ellentube.com/videos/0_ma4x1e5a and try to play the video it might crash (auto sent one page crash report to Opera)

  • Gojic Milos

Opera installer (with parameters /silent /launchopera 0) hangs sometimes when called through batch script (super admin). I’m left with 2 phantom processes of Opera.exe in task manager, and with a script waiting for setup exit code/closed process. Fresh W7 amd64/x86 systems, multiple config. machines – I can’t recall this happening with pre-O26 versions with the same (very simple) batch.

  • OMG I haven’t used this browser since the good old times and now it doesn’t even open Youtube player properly? YOU REALLY ARE morons!

    • Which YT video? Which OS?
      YT works fine for me.

Tried you updating flash player to current

      • Every video, Windows 7 64-bit. Flash always latest : / Sorry but Opera is unusable…

        • Strange, on my Windows 7 x64 with Flash Player the videos play fine at YT.

          1. You installed Flash Player 16 PPAPI?
          2. Is your Opera now updated to 27?
If not, then open opera://about/ and wait updating. And try once more.

  • L33t4opera

The Opera 27 has been promoted to the stable channel: 27.0.1689.54 😉
