Thanks for this added version, after supposed final was withdrawn. Testing now. :p

  • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

I want a separate adress bar and search bar like in Opera 12.xx. Can you guys make this option in settings somewhere? 🙂

    • Philip

Why? I mean, what do you want to use it for that you can’t do with the combined address/search field?

      • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

Because then Opera looks better for me 🙂

      • MozPri

Separate search field is better because the search string does’t get replaced with the URL so you can use different search engines without retyping.

      • Maggus

I have so much searchengines that it is difficult to know all… so i have to look in the settings or I have to open this website…

      • Guest

Oh, by the way. I set in Opera to always open the popup windows (I mean screenshot in fullscreen, see Christoph142 post) on page like this, but Opera still blocks this popup windows ;( Any solution?

        • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

Please, delete guest post (and this post of course). It’s mine post.

      • Dreamclaw

To quickly change between search engines. You don’t want to use google if you’re looking for results from wikipedia (as an example). Of course you can go to the website and then use their search bar, but that’s at least one extra click, more if you’re not willing to clutter up your bookmark bar with websites you only use to search for things. Or you can type in your search and then type in the website you want results from, but again, ugh. The separate search bar is just more convenient.

        • Philip

In my opinion, the search shortcuts work much better.
I have configured it like so:

“d mysearch” to search for “mysearch” on duckduckgo
          “g mysearch” for google
          “w mysearch” for wikipedia
          “gm mysearch” for google maps

          and so on.
Thats in Opera 12 but I think this is also possible in Chromium Opera.

  • Vux777

    thanx
I was hoping for new dev build with fixed extensions popup

    • Wibby

Aw man, I want this fixed too! I can’t see anything in my extensions. ):

      • mohd fuad yasin

        nope..it not fixed..):

  • iG0Lka

    Thank you!

    Finally youtube works fine!

    • L33t4opera

Not related to the HiDPI problem, but one, another problem related to Youtube’s videos, and Adobe flash 12.0.0.43: I hear the music, but I can’t to watch some of the videos (black screen in video playback). When you switch off the flash plugin, some videos work fine in html5, but not all can be played this way, so this is issue on one of my desktops – WXP SP3.

  • Almost final.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Can anybody please tell me, which files and folders I have to copy from my Opera 20-Dev. profile folder (USB installation) to the one from this 19-Next (also USB installation) to get all my open tabs, all my installed extensions and all my speed dials here.? It’s the first time that i can not simply copy the whole profile folder. If I do this, Opera freezes.

    • We never support downgrading. Copying Stable to Next or Next to Developer is supported (considered an upgrade). Trying to go the other way can lead to problems like this.

I’d recommend using Next as your main installation and copy it over to Developer once in a while when you want to test that.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

This answer doesn’t help me. Which files and folders can I copy, which one cause problems?

        • x a

I wrote about the issue here:

After getting the latest acceptable v20 running again I rushed to delete opera_autoupdate.exe

It’s unfortunate for many, leaving the dev channel in such a state for such a long time.

          • He left stable in that state, then tried to bring Dev settings down to stable. Not the other way around.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Thank you for your helpful hints. I downloaded and installed the programm and tried to find what you wrote about. I’m not a sqlite programmer and not used to use such a progamm, but it looks very good. Now I’m going to try it out a little more. It’s strange that simply changing the version number takes such an effect.

        • Vux777

preferences file will probably cause a problem
          I usually copy:
bookmarks, Cookies, favicons, Favorites.db, Login Data, stash.db, thumbnails.db
(I don’t have session file in profile folder)
          Themes and dictionaries Folders….

For extensions, I just copy their storage data. It’s either in “local storage” folder in a form of
          chrome-extension_bbkekonodcdmedgffkkbgmnnekbainbg_0.localstorage
or in “Local Extension Settings” where they are in separated folder.

that cryptographic name can be seen on extension page in opera when developer mode is ON.
I do that only for extensions that are using chrome storage (like notes)
and did transfered ghostery settings from NEXT to DEV because in dev popups are bugged/not visible

          …maybe that helps….names are self-explanatory

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Thanks to both of you! You helped me very much. By copying the whole folder and deleting the web data files I got all my settings and extensions back. Also my speed dials and by saving the whole group of open tabs into one speed dial folder I also could restore the open tabs. Only the search engines are gone, as you wrote, x a , but that is an easy problem for me. So I hope from now on I can go on as usual. 🙂

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Oh, and all my autofill settings are gone. I have to enter them all again.

Opera Devs, I hope for a solution for future problems of this kind. One day the 20 dev will be a 20 next and will have the same kind of installer and problems.

          • x a

Yes, both, autofill and search engines, are stored in Web Data.

Probably instead of throwing away Web Data, it is sufficient to just modify the version tags in the meta table of the db as mentioned.

On Vivaldi.net I wrote a post about a suitable SQLite GUI editor for Windows that works better than the usual search results search engines return if asked for SQLite editors:

          • Vux777

            little OT
do you, by any chance, knows where they stored SD thumbnails for standard pages (yahoo, twitter, FB…) so that I can replace them too like other snapshots
            http://prntscr.com/2lnots

Some time ago, I’ve stumble on them in favorites.db (I think) but wasn’t cared abut them because I was using patch for SD. Now I would really like to replace them too. They not in favorites.db anymore…
I tend to move favorites from build to another so all SD thumbnails are always the same….

          • x a

Regular screenshots for SD are stored in the SQLite db thumbnails.db. With Opera not runing, you can have a look at the thumbnails and replace them using the SQLite Editor I mentioned here:

Just double click on the (BLOB) data placehoder in the respective column of the obvious table in that db.

The icons for the pre-configured SD items could be delivered in the .pak resource files?

If you create SD entries, eg for Twitter (https://twitter.com/), yourself, perhaps adding an arbitrary ?xa=xa you will end up with an ordinary screen shot stored in the thumbnails.db database; bu it will not be used and shown on SD. A “hack” I quickly found for Twitter was to use the URLhttp://twitter.com:443/, thus using HTTP sans “s”, but specifying the HTTPS port 443 explicitly. That works due to Twitters graceful handling of such a rather weired request… 😉

That’s all I know right now.

          • Vux777

            thanx
but I would really like to find out where they hiding those pre-configured SD items ツ

            btw I’m using navicat…

          • Leonardo Gomes

Sync will be the solution, i think.

Until there, the best thing to do, imo, is to follow the stream and not the version.

      • SolCom

I’m confused. Isn’t copying from Stable to Next or Next to Developer downgrading, not upgrading? You are reverting back to a previous version.

        • How is it copying from 18 Stable to 19 Next or 20 Dev downgrading please?

I get lost when people forget words even have a meaning, and that meaning is meant to mean something, and end up using words like that.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            20 > 19 > 18

In terms of version number, Developer is the newest/highest one, followed by Next, which is followed by Stable.

          • 20 to 19 to 18 is downgrade, which is, as already stated, not supported.

            END of it.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Nope, Developer is usually two versions ahead of Stable and Next is one version ahead.

Also, Developer includes features ans support for technologies that may not be included on the (next) Stable version.

          • SolCom

I knew about the version levels.

But when you’re copying from Stable to Next you’re downgrading Next to the preceding Stable level profile.

          • Vux777

usually ppl copy only personal data (logins, favorites, bookmarks)…not app files

          • Leonardo Gomes

Maybe if you are copying Stable XX profile to Next XX one, otherwise you will be upgrading.

  • Tomasz

    Finally, thanks!

  • mds

    proxy api。 i need this!

    • L33t4opera

If you would like, you can install, and use the Proxy Switchy! extension – this one doesn’t need Chromium Proxy API, but to install it you need firstly install Opera’s “Download Chrome Extesion” extension, or install Proxy Switchy! from this link.

  • Unfortunately, it’s still COMPLETELY unusable over here:
have a look at this image
    clean USB install of this build @ Win 8.1 x64 (3200*1800 @ 13,3″)

    (DNA-15651)

    • Cryio

      The scaling is hilarious

      • Indeed it is.
This issue forces me to stay at and use Opera 18 or IE(!) and makes developing my download-extension (on 20) a PITA *sigh*

Wouldn’t it be possible to return to Opera 18’s scaling until your “taken back to drawing board”-process is complete?

(I deactivated auto-update as a precaution not to end up with 19 on stable channel)

        • syplex

How did you disable auto-update? They pushed 19 to the stable channel with its broke-ass DPI scaling and borked up my HTPC.

          • There’s a command line switch called “–disable-update”.

To use it simply right-click your Opera-shortcut and add this to its target (will be sth. like Target: [ “C:Program Files (x86)Operalauncher.exe” –disable-update ] )

  • Jeffster

Are we even thinking about attepting a linux build????

    • Do we even try to understand when they say not before march?

      And sincerely, does anybody care?

      • Jeffster

THANK YOU!! AN ANSWER EVEN GOOGLE COULDN’T PROVIDE!! (seriously)

And yes, apparently someone does or the question would have never been asked 🙂

You never hear a word about a possible linux build but yet mac already has several and thats an even smaller user base.

        Priorities….

        • Leonardo Gomes

The question is asked and answered almost every week.

          • > Every day.

          • Tomáš Pavlík

Well, yes, appearently someone actually cares. Maybe Linux users who uses Opera and anxiously awaiting new Opera because Opera 12.xx is getting old? Im using ArchLinux and Gentoo and yes, im disappointed that im forced to use Chromium and FF.

          • I know what you mean, I’ve been trying Fedora lately and it sucks having to use Midori meanwhile because Opera 12 is unusable (sloooow), but reading the the same question every day principally in posts of small updates of builds nearing the stable channel where everyone knows a Linux build won’t pop-up is irritating!

          • Tomáš Pavlík

Agreed. It simply be “when it’s ready. We just have to wait. 🙂

          • kaka_karl

Please provide a link to a blog post, or a press release, or a comment from an Opera employee with this so-called “answer” you keep talking about.

Please back up your claim with some evidence, so we can tell that you’re actually saying something that is correct.

          • Vux777
          • Leonardo Gomes
        • Mac has a smaller user base? I’m starting to wish it never comes out for you.

          • Jeffster

Mac does indeed have a small user base. Mostly consumer. Where as linux is used in comsumer and enterprise settings. But I’m not here to argue that. What you must know that is imperative to your being is that your precious “MAC” is nothing more that a tweaked and dumbed-down Free-BSD. Thats a flavor of linux/unix. Completely open-source software. Now the hardware itself running your “MAC” OS is crappy chinese technology. I can build the same computer with the same specifications for under $400. So you spent 5 to 8 times the amount for what??? an apple logo??? meanwhile I can download free-bsd and not pay a dime.

      • kaka_karl

I have heard people say “not before March” so many times now, but they can never provide any sort of evidence that anyone at Opera ever actually expressed this.

Can you provide a link to a press release or a comment or anything like that, from an Opera employee, mentioning March?

If you can’t, then we have to assume what you’re saying is wrong.

        • Jeffster

They honestly have no clue and doubt the the thought has crossed the teams mind. Before they ditched presto, they dedicated a lot of time and resources into that engine. But now that it’s gone, where have all these resources diverted to?? I’m not seeing a lot of progress here.

        • What, am I your freaking servant? Go look for it yourself!!

It is in some previous post, anyway you won’t have anything before march (hopefully never!!) and you are going to wait, like it or not.

          • Jeffster

Sorry for the misunderstanding Hector, I’m just really excited at the thought of a linux build and all I ever see on these blogs is “wait”. And I’m trying to be a patient person without making others agitated. heh

          • Tomáš Pavlík

            Keep calm, buddy.

I searched on Opera’s new blog too, using search bar [on News and Desktop] and found only that Linux version “isn’t quite ready yet”, “there’s no Linux version of Opera available yet,” and “there will be Opera for Linux.” So, no, i don’t see any mentioning of March too.

          • Tomáš Pavlík

No wonder i haven’t found it myself. It’s quite hidden and “easy to overlook”. Thanks, Hector.

  • Saskatchewan

There’s no link to the full changelog.

    • Leonardo Gomes

“The only change is that we have decided to turn off HiDPI mode on Windows. ”

I don’t think that a separate changelog is needed.

      • Saskatchewan

A separate one is maybe not needed, but a link to the full changelog would be welcome: https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/changelog19/#b1326.45

        • Leonardo Gomes

If the only change was that regarding HiDPI support, then the full changelog is already on this post.

          • Saskatchewan

By writing “the full changelog”, I mean the full changelog for Opera 19. Look at the link I provided. Not everyone is up to date with every snapshot.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Ah, it will be there when the Stable version is released, i think. And probably will be this one.

  • Rockies Photog

What is the status of allowing custom search engines as default?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Afaik, ,nothing has changed regarding this.

      • Rockies Photog

Hopefully Opera will allow it soon since every other browser does, including Chrome, which is ionic.

  • Евгений Смирнов

Very need show/hide images button on navigation panel.

    • Евгений Смирнов

It’s very useful feature from opera 12 and older. In opera 18-20 we can only disable or only enable images in opera:config for all pages or for specific URLs. But offten we don’t need the images and only when interesting subpage appear we want to show images. Or if images are shown always may appear the page overloaded with images – we want to disable the images permanently.

  • nimuchan

    Thank you very much!
    I like opera.

  • misotropici

    hi,everybody.
Are there in the version 20 of opera the notes and a bookmarks in sidepanel as the version 12.16?

    • Vux777

      nope

  • L33t4opera

Thanks Radek. Opera Next has been updated.

  • MiKu

When I change font size from medium (which is default) to very large, nothing happened. How can I increase font size, default one i small for me (on Windows)

    • MiKu

Nobody has same experience? I think font size changing doesn’t have any effect at all. Should I send an issue?

      • This is only the default font size which websites can override.
What you’re looking after is the *minimum* font size setting in opera://settings/fonts

        • MiKu

Really? All my visited webs won’t affected when I change font size in Opera settings, internal opera pages included. Such settings isn’t useful anymore.

When I change same settings in Firefox and I check “allow pages to chose its own font” it works as expected, in mostly pages font size is increased. In Opera isn’t.

Can you post any url which behaves same in FF and Opera regarding font size changing?

Is current behavior of font size changing same in Chrome?

  • guest6768

Mac product tester here, Mac product tester there, Mac product tester everywhere… No surprise actually, it’s Chropera for Mac’s and iphones/ipads anyway… PC’s real users? Linux ones? Bah… those are not fancy and trendy enough… You guys continue fixing one bug for Mac’s and call it a new release, we are so proud of you with the 60 releases in 2013 of pure trash…

    • Chas4

For a time there were not many Mac testers it was mostly all Windows and 1 or 2 Mac or Linux testers, Opera is also dealing with 2 new OSes that came out OS X 10.9 & Windows 8.1, they have bugs to work out

  • MozPri

    Stable? Today? 🙂

  • Dark Magician

Update prompt should show version number.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I know there are no plans to change the search preferences in Opera i.e., allowing custom search engines as default, when Chrome clearly allows this, including every other search engine, I guess I’m just baffled as to why? Opera is a great browser but this has just been a thorn in my side.

  • Pedro Costa

So many things are broken that were fine before. Extensions popup, Chrome.proxy api (which is in the change log that it was added to the next sometime ago). Figuring does out should be your top priority.

If extensions were reliable I would make Opera my number 1 browser again. Without extensions and proxy (for those pesky sites) it’s useless to me

  • paor ludi

after 14 years of use, i have to say – oh my god, opera became the worst browser on the world

Are mouse gestures and opera link (synchronization) available in this build?

  • Guest

Are mouse gestures and opera link (synchronization) available in this build?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Mouse gestures are available although maybe not all Opera Presto gestures.

Sync is also available but only Speed Dial, Stash and custom searches are synced atm.

      • Sebastian Ratkai

And how can I activate them?

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Mouse gestures: Settings > Shortcuts

Sync: First enable it at opera:flags. Then Menu > Synchronize.

          • Sebastian Ratkai

Thanks, Opera Link is ok now, but I’ve got just two gestures, and I can’t costumize them. Is it a bug or a function?

          • Leonardo Gomes

Have you enabled both mouse and rocker gestures?

As i said, many gestures are still not available so i guess it’s not a case of bug but one of lack of feature.

In this print: http://s17.postimg.org/is1l5f8qn/opera.jpg it is possible in the future that the choosen background image (theme) to be seen also in the tabs sections, like in Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, when we chose a theme also the tabs are changing according to the theme.

Opera 19 Stable is on the ftp. But always remember that everything can happen until the official announcement.

  • Nice Opera team. I love Opera…;-)

  • Billybob

I was upgraded to 19.0.1326.56 today and couldn’t believe this was released. Did anybody bother to look at the scaling on the address and bookmarks bars? The icons and text are so small as to be almost unreadable. What a joke this browser has become especially with this release. The Chrome, IE, and Firefox guys have got to be laughing at the Opera team over this one. Maybe we all need to chip in and get them some software classes.

Please turn the HiDPI mode back on! I loved to use Opera on my 4K display because of that feature, now tabs look really tiny, please fix it . Thank you
