The new changelog page could do most of the talking this time. However, I do want to highlight the new Task Manager.

The Task Manager can be found up in the Developer menu. The manager will show all the browser’s processes. Processes can be terminated from the bottom of the manager. The manager will show some information about each process; including their current memory to the left, processor, and network usage to the right.

There have also been some changes on the settings page.

Any chance to see DNA-12331fixed in Opera 17/18 ?

  • Bruno Machado

Please, bring back the address bar drop down arrow.

    • senna_4ever

+1, because i have only 6 or 7 options for what I am searching is bad, in this way I havent almost found what I search using the addressbar, so I have to use the SD searchbar

  • x a

    This
DNA-12372 Settings | Advanced: Number of columns in speed dial
might make for a highlight for some.

And this an even brighter, if only I found the switch: 😉
DNA-12667 Settings | Power-user: Hide search box in the start page

    • Cjcr

“Power-user: Hide search box in the start page”

I can’t find this option! Where it is?

      • x a

        Found it.

        “always_show_power_settings”: true

you can add this (in correct JSON!) to the “Local State” settings file in the profile. Then there you have it.

        • Cjcr

Got it! Thanks! It looks better now!

        • Vux777

I think there is something similar for Page Zoom
Other day I stumble upon one post on the net where one guy was saying about new zoom feature in Opera, but it’s not enabled yet. I was wtf then, but now…
…there’s probably same procedure for enabling it
          …I guess… 🙂

btw. thanx for explaining “how to”

        • Ruarí Ødegaard

Good find. There is an easy, way. Did any of you guys ever play Gradius?

          • Frenzie

You just asked if I ever played a videogame while I was a fetus. 😛

          • Emanuele

and good to see you again here 😀

Now give us something for playing on Linux 😉

          • Frenzie

Yeah, VirtualBoxing is getting a bit tiresome. I could hopefully promote a native Chropera to be my quaternary browser.

(The current order: Opera, Iceweasel, elinks/links2, Midori, Iceape, Chromium.)

          • SLR

you mean the konami code? I’ll give it a try…

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

And more options will appear here in the future. Remember to head the warning! 😀

          • Ra-Mon

I personally watch here http://xn--pp-oia.com/dl/Heot but it hurt my eyes <:o)

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

Just because you use cheats, doesn’t mean you’re not smart! :p

          • SLR

You guys made my day. still grinning here half an hour later 😀 and now I have an urge to play Gradius..

          • Manuel

Well, It does not really work that good when the search field is selected while doing that (and the search field is selected by default),

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

That is certainly a fair point. You need to click on the page first to remove focus from the search field. However, the settings made accessible via konami code are not supposed to be accidentally stumbled upon. They are intentionally hidden because are power user only features. So it doesn’t really matter that it is a bit tricky to activate, since that is the idea in the first place.

In any case you need only get the code right once. After that you can simply tick the box “Always show power user settings” and you will never need to enter the code again. All future power user settings will simply show up.

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

It isn’t supposed to be easy to find. That is the reason it is hidden in the first place.

          • It took you guys long enough to figure it out. It is even in the blog post text. 😛

          • SLR

It certainly went over my head 😀
            coolest Opera release, hands down.

          • x a

🙂 Sorry, didn’t want to spoil the party. 😉

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

Not at all. Quite fun that you found another way. 😉

        • Soulviolence

Hey, any way you could download these two files so I could plug them into my profile and also figure out how this JSON stuff works? I tried copying and pasting but it ended up giving me a local state.BAD and preferences.BAD file.

          • Frenzie

Use an editor with syntax highlighting (e.g. SciTE) and it should make accidental syntax errors more obvious.

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

don’t bother. Just konami code on the prefs page.

          • Frenzie

It’s also good for altering keyboard shortcuts and what not.

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

            fair enough

          • Soulviolence

            You guys rock!

  • reesmichael1

“DNA-13109 The secret of the fox
    (ancient mysteries)”

How can I test this fix? 😀

    • The secret of the fox is what does it say?
      nobody knows…

    • Vux777
    • “How can I test this fox?”

      FTFY

    • inDigazzZ

      1. Go to opera://settings

      2. Hit ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a

      3. Look at the bottom of a page

you’ll see ‘Always show power user settings’

      • senna_4ever

my Mega Drive cheat times 🙂

      • marwerno

This does no longer seem to work in the Opera Next 21…
Any idea how to activate it again?
I really want to hide the search bar (why have it in the first place, I can search in the address bar!)

        • Vux777

it works, I’ve just tested it

  • Cjcr

Theres a thing that I miss: When open a drop down folder in the QAB and you want to open only some sites of this folder (with middle-click) it is closed (the drop down) everytime you do that.

What do you think about to keep the drop-down menu open if you open the links with middle-click? sounds great in my mind.

  • Chas4

Using OS X 10.9, both current Opera stable 17 & dev 19 (this build), I think next also, I get at least one Zombie process (no cpu usage, no memory usage)

Opera Mail (presto app) also gets a Zombie (partly from Notification center, updating the Growl framework to the current should help (user can chose whether to use Growl or Notification Center, when an app uses the current framework (right))) having Opera or Opera Mail enabled in Notification Center causes a Zombie, w/ Opera Mail it is a zombie dock icon

Also it would be a nice option for users if they could turn off all animations if they wanted to

    • jjgod

I haven’t seen this. (Daniel, have you?) If you managed to find a way to reproduce it on your 10.9 system, please report as a bug so that we can look into it.

(I have to add that we are fixing 10.9 bugs as quickly as possible, but they will always be in Developer releases first, so please always test the latest developer build.)

    • Does the zombie have a process number of the main process +1?

      • Chas4

nope, in 17 they are before Opera GPU (all Processes hierarchically)

19 dev it is the PID of the main process +9, for 17 it is the main process +113 & +114

      • Chas4

        nope, 17 has a +113 & +114 & 19 dev has a +9 from main process (on first open, now +10 2nd open of Opera Dev)

  • Emanuele

Thanks for the task manager 🙂

DNA-12667 Settings | Power-user: Hide search box in the start page

Good, but why is it marked as “Power user” ? … not to be polemic (again), but
these things are for newbies, not power users … If you think in a different way I can finally understand very well why ChrOpera is what we can see…

    • No, this is a power user setting, and it will probably stay this way. We can’t promote all options to all users.

      • Emanuele

OK, I can understand if there are commercial deals behind this…

But at the least I hope to see more and more of these “power-users” configuration in next builds … After all I’ve no much problems with these “dirty jobs” of editing config files

        • Ruarí Ødegaard

As mentioned earlier in the comments, Konami Code on the preferences page and check the option at the bottom (Always show power user settings).

You will then see all future power user settings, right in the preferences UI.

          • ayespy

I’ll bite. WTF is Konami Code? And where is the “preferences” page?

          • Soulviolence

            Search engines are our friends…
Go to settings page, click somewhere so the cursor isn’t in search and hit arrow up up down down left right left right B A Not kidding. It works…

          • ayespy

Yeah. Figured it out. Wikipedia is my friend. And I finally tried it on the “settings” page, and voila!

          • Frenzie

The preferences (Alt + P instead of Ctrl + F12) are in opera:settings. But I suppose you jest. 😛

The Konami Code—Wikipedia is your friend.

          • ayespy

Thanks. I beat you to it, but thanks anyway. Then all I had to figure out was that the “preferences” page is actually “settings.”

I am now a power user. Heh.

          • Ruarí Ødegaard

            opera://settings Also Google “Konami Code”

          • ayespy

Thanks Ruari. Figured this out about ten minutes after I asked the question :-/

          • We start Konami codes learning with O19:)

      • Emanuele

        Only a tiny observation: http://i.imgur.com/cOFmvJO.jpg

How hiding Google box can be dangerous for my browser? XD … As I said previously in the old blog, I suggest you to rethink the settings page in a more logic and organized way, like CoolNovo does. As you can see ChrOpera settings actually are a very mess and logic-less … and adding more stuff in future can only add insult to injury

Mine is only a (good) hint… if Opera wants listen to it I think things can only become better, else… /cares 😉

        PS
        I really miss emoticons ;(

    • kapsi

      I don’t see that option.

  • beBoss

Please fix text selection of the links. Is not possible in 99% of time to select text of links….

    • It works as intended. You must start the selection outside the links. Clicking on/inside the text node will start dragging the link.

      • woj_tek

this is not a solution! it worked perfectly in older operas (vertical/horizontal disctinction) and this is one of most annoying things in chrome… at least in Firefox you can pres Alt to select text inside the link…

        • Sebastián Lalaurette

Well, that’s an interesting alternative. I didn’t know that. Maybe it could be implemented?

          • woj_tek

probably in chrome 68 and opera 75… =,=

        • kingyzf

download Fine Link Selector Extension from Chrome ,then you can select text of the links by press Alt or Ctrl

      • beBoss

Lol… Sometimes you can’t do that because it starts to select other elements of the page… Just brick old opera text selecting

        • BK

Clrearly opera devs for presto did better work than the ones in webkit, at least in this regard. The good news is, that the guy who did it is still at opera. The bad news is that he’s doing something else, and we still have more work to be made, like bookmarks, sync etc.. We fight each day now to get them initiallly delivered for O19 as the cutoff date is getting close.

      • Dark Magician

We don’t want that. In Opera 12, you can select part of text in hyperlink. Make it possible.

        • senna_4ever

I see many people asking for it, me too

          • Dark Magician

”You need to aim just 1px above or below the linked text.
It fails in some sites, still, when there’s a clickable element surrounding it for example.”

It seems there is a way. Look at the comments below.

      • MozPri

What’s the use of link dragging?

        • Games and web apps.

          • Dark Magician

We still need option for selecting just a part of it.
Make it an option in menu.

          • Martin Brada

As it has been written already, start the selection outside the line. As far as it is possible, it is not about making an option; just learn the “gesture”.

          • Dark Magician

Just tell me how do you select middle then?

          • Martin Brada

Again. Start the selection outside the line – above or underneath. When there are other lines on the both sides, you have to be very accurate – that’s the only problem.

          • Dark Magician

I don’t know anyone who has use of dragging links.

          • Frenzie

You can drag links into the bookmarks manager, onto a panel or onto the bookmarks bar. Or if you can’t, I think that functionality should be added. In any case, for now links can be dragged onto the QAB.

          • Martin Brada

Similarly, I can not remember any case when I needed to select only a part of a URL.
The fact is that a click in the middle of a link cannot make two actions together, therefore I respect it as it is.

          • Frenzie

“the fact is that a click in the middle of a link cannot make two actions together”

That’s not a fact, ’cause Presto manages to do both. 😉

          • Martin Brada

OK, you are right, I should have written about the whole action instead of the click. I do not know which way is better, I have no problem with any of them.

          • You need to aim just 1px above or below the linked text.
It fails in some sites, still, when there’s a clickable element surrounding it for example.

        • N1ghth4wk

          wait wait WAIT
you can drag links to the desktop? WOW thats great news for me.
But why can’t we drag the Adressbar to the Desktop to save a Link since Opera 15+ ?

      • Michael A. Puls II

Unfortunately, that’s not a satisfactory solution. And, it assumes all of the link text is desired.

      • vikbergom

The link selection / drag was one of few things Asa praised in Opera Classic https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378775 🙂

        • MozPri

Yes, this would be a win-win solution.

We should implement Opera’s behavior where click and drag in mostly vertical directions triggers a link drag while click and drag in mostly horizontal directions triggers text selection.

      • Mithaldu

It is nice that you intend it, but be aware that the majority of your customers has entirely different intentions.

Also, just out of curiosity, are you aware that “works as intended” is in the wider internet community known as the sign of highest arrogance or cluelessness? See: http://www.wowwiki.com/Working_as_intended

      • Miro

Daniel Aleksandersen, could you take a look at DNA-5980?
(It is about text link selection)

    • woj_tek

this is retardines inherited from chrome… a quick fix is to switch to Firefox…

    • kingyzf

You can download Fine Link Selector Extension from Chrome ,then you can select text of the links by press Alt or Ctrl

      • Michael A. Puls II

        That’s an okayish workaround.

    • kabforks

If you select the text a few pixels below the baseline (or just when the “hand” mouse icon disappears), you will in most cases be successful in selecting the text

  • Sebastián Lalaurette

So, the most annoying bug in the last snapshot (gestures not working) is fixed… and Opera is now shaping up nicely! Congrats on the good work to all the dev team!

  • woj_tek

    “DNA-10498 [Windows] Enable Aura code.”
    what is that?

      • woj_tek

ah… this new feature of chrome that made me #facepalm…

        (i.e. I’m looking for a *browser*, not new OS…)

        • The Solutor

Instead Google is looking for something that take the control of your PC bit after bit.

Too bad Opera that was one of the last free island of the web, is now cooperating with skynet er… Google.

  • SLR

Tab recycle bin/arrow please. the extra click is extremely annoying.

  • Christian Wallrich

    AdBlock doesn’t work.

    • Please provide more details.

    • Dmitry Kirin

      It does here.

    • Christian Wallrich

At “AdBlock Plus” i must sometimes reload the page.
“Adblock” shows some Ads, like here: http://www.wulffmorgenthaler.de/ There are Banner.

I use Win 8.1 x64, Opera Next and Developer.
I hope, my english is not too bad. 🙂

      • Dmitry Kirin

Still fine, in both AdBlock and Plus: blocks 1 ad.
        P.S. Wulff & Morgenthaler are cool. 🙂

        • Christian Wallrich

          Strange.

  • Inquisitor on the tricycle

It’s good to see that development is on the fire … but where is Opera Link? I mean it. I use Opera for years but I don’t understand why Link is still in dead meat state?

    • Link isn’t dead, and we’re still working on it. We’ll get it out as soon as we have something ready for testing!

      • Inquisitor on the tricycle

        I hope so …

      • ayespy

Caution with regard to Link. Once it is up and running, it must provide, BEFORE anything happens to a user’s data, at least three options – replace cloud with local, replace local with cloud, and merge. Link has been dormant for so long that in the meantime I have done major housekeeping on my bookmarks and speed dial. If Link were to sync and undo all of my local work, I would be really put out.

        • senna_4ever

          +1

  • Oskar

Nice to be able to hide the totally unnecessary search box in the start page.
Would be cool to find the new task manager too!

This is one of the most annoying things with these chrOpera releases, the settings is much worse and some are impossible to find. For example this search box thing that I needed to look in the comments to find how to activate…
    Couldn’t you fix this?

    • Power user settings have always been harder to find, and you had to know where to look. The old opera:config had a lot of options, and you usually had to know what to look for.

    • Ruarí Ødegaard

See the earlier comments on how to enable power user settings permanently. Then you can search them all.

  • Ice007

Ok – this new Task Manager ist a good thing.

Finally I can assign the processes (usage) to the applications. Good work.

  • [bug] Disabling the 1px space above tabs in HiDPI mode visually works, but tabs don’t react at the very top unlike with HiDPI off.

    Win8.1 x64

    • ahoj1234

can’t reproduce it here. I’ve been using it for a while and it works like a charm 🙂 – though, I’m don’t use w8.1 but w7x64

      • Marcin Mitek

In some cases it is also reproducible on Win 7 AFAIK.

    • Marcin Mitek

      Confirmed. And reported, thanks 🙂

  • SLR

Moving a bookmark between 2 folders (or back to the QAB) causes a crash here.

    • Dmitry Kirin

Confirmed, but it has happened only once here.

  • Krisztián Lengyel

    Hello Opera developers
I’m always glad to see from week to week how you are forming a usable browser from the Chromium (even if it may seems a slow process too).
I would like to ask if are you planning to implement some features from the still loved Opera 12, like I’m really missing the image viewer (the centred and browsable image by mouse) and the advanced image properties (and some more that always mentioned by others :))

Another question, if I end a process for a tab, shouldn’t the tab also close too? Just right now it shows “Out of memory” page.

    • Some features from Opera 12 are already planned. Some are not. We’re always evaluating our future plans.

      • TwistedAndy

Can you concretize what features is planned?

        • They are announced right here on the blog when they are ready for testing.

          • Emanuele

let me test MDI, Side Panels, and Notes as soon as possible 😀

          • TwistedAndy

When we approximately see the Dragonfly, bookmarks, option for full URL showing, CTRL+number key shortcuts for launching the speed dial item?

Without it I can’t use the new Opera in my work. The current developer tool isn’t very usable and the decision to hide full url looks strange.

          • Mithaldu

            You meant to say “No.”

          • senna_4ever

Side Panels, Notes, Bookmarks (with all the O12 functions )and Skins!

      • Krisztián Lengyel

Thank you for your reply opvard, still checking your news for newer features, and using Opera 12 (and Next when needed).

    • arfz

      + 1
      + advance image settings,
+ one feature that mostly i use in O12, right click “reload(specific)image”.
all chromium based browser that i know, only have feature disable “all” images and enable “all” images…
hope opera able to implement it.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Despite QAB is pretty much drag-and-drop-oriented, it does not accept URL drop. I’m not much of a QAB user, but the first thing I tried to do was dragging a speed dial link to QAB. I think you might want to consider adding the drag-and-drop behaviour from address bar and speed dial to QAB. Also, a button or a context menu option “Add to QAB” in the address bar would be useful, since QAB is similar to SD as a link collection.

    • jjgod

Yes, we are considering those options.

  • xDDx

You are copying the “new Task Manager” 1:1 from Chromium, why didn’t you copied chromium’s bookmark-feature in the first place? Wouldn’t it be easier?
    http://puu.sh/58I3Q.png
    http://puu.sh/58I4X.png

    • We are not going to recreate Chromium’s bookmark feature. It will be our own interface.

      • Frenzie

I hope you’ll copy most (or preferably all) of Opera’s bookmarking goodness. Most important perhaps nicknames, nicknames on folders, and the search function, but that’s just me.

        • x a

          It’s me, either.

Nicknames were the distinguishing as well as beneficial feature oft Opera’s bookmarking magic.

You only have to do a better job selling the feature and educating the user, as it (and its usefulness) is perhaps not too easy to discover for users new to it.

          • Ra-Mon

Opera -12.x can also find text in “Description” field of bookmarks. Other browsers can’t !

          • Frenzie

One thing that was a bit annoying in Opera/Presto was that it only picked up the META description automatically if you used e.g. Ctrl+B, while dragging the tab/link onto the bookmarks panel didn’t do so.

Incidentally, as far as I know I wrote the most complete WordPress META description implementation. (Although looking at it now I wonder why I didn’t just stick an or between those first two statements, but that aside.)

          • senna_4ever

OMG, I am not the only asking for “Description” on bookmarks 🙂

        • senna_4ever

“description” in bookmarks and folders also to help you to find what you search.

          • Frenzie

I left search function undefined, but I believe the search function on the bookmarks panel (or from the addressbar) searches on title, URL, nickname, and description. It’s good to state it explicitly.

  • Jorton

Hi, could someone please tell detailedly me how to access to the task manager?
I did not find the Developer menu yet.

opera -> more tools -> enable developer tools
opera -> developer tools -> task manager

      • Jorton

        Thanks! I got it.

    • Frenzie

First you have to enable the developer tools in in “More tools”. Then it’ll show up.

      • Jorton

        thank you very much Frezie.

  • ahoj1234

task manager is really an useful feature! 🙂 but honestly… can we open it as a new tab as well? I can maximize the window but still… it’s not a tab (or a proper window)… maybe you can even do it as “opera:cpu”? it’s almost the same info so…
    thanks a lot.

    • Frenzie

This is simply the Chromium task manager with “stats for nerds” missing as far as I can tell. I don’t think customizing it should have much (if any) priority.

      • ahoj1234

blahblahblah… I’m sorry but most of new browsers are just a copy of something. But you have to do something more… change something… and it will shine in “your” browser even more than in the first one 🙂 and that’s what I need/want. not rewrite it… just “take it on a whole new level” 🙂

        • Frenzie

Well, I don’t—or shouldn’t have to—use the task manager for browsing. I have a nigh endless list of things I’d like to see improved or added, believe you me. 😉

          • ahoj1234

sure. there is a lot of things to add/improve… and I’m pretty sure that Odevs know it as well. I just pointed out what’s important to me. (besides of some tab stacking/grouping and proper synch etc..)

          • Frenzie

Fair enough. But although I don’t care much about the other things you mentioned either, those relate directly to using the Internet. The task manager is more of a fringe feature that might be useful if a process goes haywire. I have to wonder whether the fact that you care about it says more about Chromium than about you?

          • ahoj1234

exactly… this feature will tell you what’s wrong and you can kill it.

about other features (as we says at least in our country): 100 people, 100 tastes. 🙂

    • jjgod

Some of the diagnostic WebUI for developers and power users (which you can open as tabs) will gradually make it back to Opera, can’t say when and what will happen specifically though, but we are getting there. Some of them already are. (Maybe worth a separate blog post when enough of them are ready.)

  • Dark Magician

Auto-update runs very slowly. Seems like there isn’t enough bandwidth,

    • Frenzie

Yeah, it downloaded at a meager 80kB/s for me too.

    • The server is just a bit tired right now. It will be feeling better soon. 🙂

  • TwistedAndy

Any news about Opera Dragonfly and option for showing the full URL with GET parameters?

When we will see the normal bookmarks? The QAB menu takes an additional space which is very limited on wide screens and it’s not usable in some cases.

  • Smithers_Jones

Can’t believe Opera went with Disqus after all the crap they have pulled over the years with dodgy Opera support.

  • kapsi

DNA-12268 Opera rarely crashes when closing any browser window with std::_Tree::find
Well I hope now it crashes every time.

  • DNA-12372 Settings | Advanced: Number of columns in speed dial
Hm in the interface it says “Maximum number of columns” which is a different thing… It doesn’t force the number chosen. Why not providing a way to really change the number of columns regardless of the resolution (and making the thumbnails smaller)?

    • x a

But might I mention, that I was quite happy, that I did not have to deal with all the fancy possible extents of a speeddial patch anymore while porting a speeddial extension of mine from Opera 12 → Opium.

    • ahoj1234

and it’s even not working here. 22″ monitor and I can only get 6 columns not 7… and trust me… I was trying hard…
      w7x64 with 22″ FHD monitor.

      • Exactly, the option only applies a limit of columns when you already have a wide screen resolution instead of defining the number of columns.

      • Confirm.

      • Dmitry Kirin

Strange: when I zoom out the SD page enough, tabs are properly arranged in 7 columns. It happens at 50% zoom on my 1280*1024 (5:4) monitor.

        • ahoj1234

true… It’s wasting of free space. If I change zoom to 90% it shows 7 columns as well. but with 100% even when there is enough of space for 7th column it shows only 6.

    • fmbb

not a solution but you can zoom out the speed dial page (ctrl -)

      • Vux777

        works fine on latest O19

        (19.0.1310.0)

  • Jorton

It could be better if the ending task of a tab can close the corresponding task tab rather than make it out of memory.

  • James

Still no “Show full URL” option… 🙁

    • BK

Will be added as DNA-8944. It’s in the to-be-done list now.

      • Frenzie

Does that include the issue that hardcoded gray and black text don’t work with different background colors?

        • BK

OMG.. I wasn’t aware. Thanks for pointing this out.

          • Frenzie

Sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed it was known (although technically a less severe but very similar bug around hardcoded gray text was already reported for Opera 11). As a Linux user I only do some very minor testing of these new Opera/Blink versions in VirtualBox, so actually I only noticed several days ago.

          • The Solutor

I noticed it on the day, but I tough it was a too obvious glitch to report/mention it.

            Clearly I was wrong.

          • James

Thats great to hear, also there should be an option to remove the “Add bookmark” button in the QAB. It just take space for another precious bookmark/s 🙂 thats just a wish..

      • The Solutor

Still no option to open a new tab doublecklicking on the empty top bar

        • Michael A. Puls II

Missing middle-click on the bar to open a new tab too.

      • Joshua Medeiros

Will this show both the query at the end and the protocol?

        • BK

Yes, that’s the plan, to show full addressbar content, like every power user would expect it to be displayed 🙂

          • Frenzie

Any plans to (optionally) enable something more than just basic full URL display, or is there a relevant extension API that can do something vaguely along these lines?

          • BK

Rather not, at least not soon.

          • Frenzie

            Alright.

does anyone else having this problem with “pig toolbox” extension?

    http://prntscr.com/21×374

it worked fine, but then on restart showing this and most of the features are bugged/not working.
    Same in O18 next…

  • Dmitry Kirin

    Hey Opera,
Could you please tell me what should I do with flaws in localization? Should they be reported as bugs, or you have some translation session already scheduled and we shouldn’t bother? So far, I’ve reported only incorrect/misguiding translations.

    • ahoj1234
      • Dmitry Kirin

I remember. 🙂 But I was asking about mistranslations then. And there are places where translation is just absent. So it may be wise to wait until Opera localization team does a scheduled task, or report without waiting.

        • ahoj1234

well, I think that that’s almost the same… it seemed like they are looking for some Russian native speaker for translations but it’s easier and cheaper when you will do it as a volunteer as until now 🙂 anyway, maybe I’m wrong and some Odev will answer to you clearly about this.

          • Dmitry Kirin

Oh I know well there are Russian native speakers in Opera. Maybe they are working with a more serious stuff, though. The fastest and cheapest way to localize software is doing it in sessions, that’s why I asked in the first place. For me, it would be quite fast and dumb to file 20 bug tickets, but would devs be glad to see them at all?.. 🙂

          • ahoj1234

the question is if there have enough of russian native speakers why it’s translated that bad? 🙂 (I don’t mention untranslated parts… as you said – it doesn’t have to be translated continuously). Anyway, I’m done here. I can’t speak Russian and the rest of unanswered questions is up to Odevs.

          • Marcin Mitek

They are busy with other stuff 🙂 From time to time they have enough time to check it and report something. As was mentioned earlier, that’s what the Next is for – final polishing.

          • BK

Guys, there is no special point in reporting translations issues in developer. Translations happen after developer is transformed to next, so if you see something wrong in next, this is worth reporting it to us, preferably via bugreport wizard and then chaising us here to get it fixed 😉

          • Dmitry Kirin

Reported the translation issues for Settings in Next 18.0.1284.11 [DNA-13123], maybe it’ll be of any help.

        • jjgod

Report as regular bugs and we will work with the localization team to get them fixed, there are process for releases so these kind of fixes will usually make into developer build first.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Thanks for killing the bug with Facebook rewinding the page to top on click! 🙂

  • Soulviolence

Setting my max number of columns to 7 and still only get 6 on SD. All other numbers work correctly. Bug?

  • WB

Very good. 3 very useful options added.
    1 – Task manager
2 – Change the number of Speed dial columns
3 – Hide search in Speed dial
It’s nice to see that people’s wishes are being granted. The interesting thing about this is that we are watching the browser being build up from scratch. So we will probably be aware of all its features. Despite using this browser for more than a decade, I had no clue about many features Opera 12 had.

    • Emanuele

2 – Change the number of Speed dial columns

This doesn’t work as you can expect …

      • WB

        Yes, but it’s almost there.

  • gekitsu

how about more customisability of search engines? specifically, i want to edit/delete the default ones because they dont work as intended:
    1) there must be a way to purge google from the browser entirely.
    2) wikipedia always displays german results despite language settings for websites being set to english only.
    3) default search engines hog shortcut letters i want to reuse for other engines.
    4) search engine buttons in address bar drop down cant be hidden/disabled. (could we please disable the entire address bar drop down?) how about having checkboxes/radiobuttons for which search engine to show on the speed dial instead of google or nothing?

can we expect more control over cookies like in opera 12, where i can set it to ask me for permitting cookies from a new domain?

is it really necessary to divide the number of settings into normal, advanced and super-secret-konamicode ones when there are not yet enough settings to fill the barest needs? furthermore, i find the complete hiding away a bad thing. the ideal case is to have all settings displayed at all times. if necessary, have a visible option to display advanced setting. but not more. just being able to see settings can invite users to educate themselves. hiding them away behind secret codes hinders that. dont confuse making things simple with making things stupid.

    many thanks.

    • BK

Hi there. You seem to sound like a power user, for which, options should be well on top and easily accessible. But that’s not the case for everyone. We want to limit the chance that non-power user changes default settings by mistake, in result experience bad product behavior and not know how to get it back.. (/me things about reset-to-default now..)

For power user it will be no biggy to find the most hidden option, even when it will be about changing the database content or editing the json file 😉
We try to balance the acccessibiliy and the users coninience of using the browser. Like with the auto and manual settings on your camera, you can pick which mode works for you best.

      • gekitsu

yes, it certainly is a tight rope to walk – but the thing is: i wasnt a power user when i started using opera. i downloaded it on a friends recommendation, fiddled a bit with what buttons go where, found out i can fiddle away all the stuff i dont use… every bit of fiddling had me reading through new settings, had me thinking new thoughts, and also had me reading up on the meaning and value of certain options when i couldnt understand why i would even want to choose between them.

to close the recommendation circle: i recommended opera to a friend of mine who didnt see the use of installing a new browser when his computer already came with internet explorer. lets just say that he has become much more “browser literate” since that day, and i didnt do more than give the initial push.

i agree that there can be progress beyond just presenting users with a huge list of things, fields, checkboxes etc. – but i feel there can be done a lot of good work without hiding things away behind an unmarked door. the auto and manual setting on my camera are chosen by a big switch. it comes set to full auto by default, but even if i dont know what they mean, i can see that the switch has a whole number of options. 😉

im just afraid that new opera will become a product that supports less diversity than pre-chromium opera. that would be sad.

      • The Solutor

Power users ARE you user base, non power users have already a zillion of browsers to choose from.

You are giving a lot of reasons to leave to the formers, while providing very few reason (maybe none at all) the the latters to come in/switch from another browser.

Here in Italy we have a said when an hard (binary) choice has to made.

We use to say “choose: full barrel or drunk wife”.

I’m afraid you are going to have an empty barrel and sober wife 🙁

        • BK

Hm.. I would not be so sure abut the power users and the current Opera user base 🙂 But if you say so.. 🙂 One thing for sure, we are willing to please also the power users, thus amongst the others, the power user options.

          • The Solutor

No offense but developer’s POV is often misleading.

I’ mean not just your’s, I mean the POV of developers in general.

I’m an IT technician and I face everyday the end users.

Any kind of end users, home users, big companies sys admins, very small company owners, and so on.

They don’t want to change, the don’t want to learn something new, they they are used to a single browser and hardly will change their minds.

Who is flexible enough to look elsewhere is part of a very small minority (and that’s the 1/2/4% that you Opera SW, already know).

On mobile side is even harder. Who knows Opera still use it, the newcomers are all using safari, the stock android browser, and even explorer (that in 2013 still doesn’t have the text reflow function).

So think to YOUR users and don’t dream about easy money coming from the parvenus.

In short who is curious enough, flexible enough, open minded enough, is already a power user, and often is already an Opera user.

Think to this kind of people, think to please them, think they are your best advertiser.

Reconsider carefully the decision already taken, and re-implement what made Opera great.

First of all *M2* and the fine tuning of the preferences and browser’s behavior.

Stop to say Browser is our core business.
Your business is to provide the safest, more customizable, fastest, lean TOOL to use Internet.

Let the other made just a browsers.

      They did.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Speaking of resetting settings to default:
Please consider adding the reset button for font sizes that are configured in Settings/Websites/Display/Font size. It’s a terrible feature, enabling to drastically change the look of webpages and the browsing experience. After some experiments I found that the best thing for me was to leave default font sizes and use HiDPI with 125% default zoom. But it was not easy to find which settings were there by default.

    • Frenzie

Speaking of UserJS, has there been any word on opera.addEventListener? Some UserJS just isn’t feasible without it. https://dev.opera.com/extension-docs/ Doesn’t really tell me much.

I think its the extension TamperMonkey beta. I tried it and it doesnt work for me too. well its still on beta so dont expect it to work well. Just use the common extension for userscripts, ViolentMonkey

For those who are finding it hard how to Disable the search box on Start Page,I found a solution for it. First you need to enable the Power User Feature, to do that, press ‘Up Up Down Down Left Left RIght Right’ while in the Settings(Alt+P) page. Then this image should pop up http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/opera-super-permissions.png . Next click “I understand, proceed”. Then go to Settings page and check the box “Always show power user settings” on the bottom of the page. The “Hide the search box in Speed Dial” should be there.

    • Ice007

Can´t check it by myself, because i´m in office, but you say:
‘Up Up Down Down Left Left RIght Right’
      Your source says:
Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right
      …so, whats correct now?

      • Michael A. Puls II

Left Right Left Right is the one that worked for me.

      • James

There i edited it sorry. Its supposed to be “Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right b a”

    1) Opera seems to slow loading speeddial and QAB, even slower than other chromium based browser with bookmarks not to mention history.
when opera load from previous session/tabs, and tabs still loading (searching networks), in chromium based browser i still able type something to search directly to bookmark/history.
But in opera there is some delay…
It seems opera waiting for all search engine ready first…

    2) When opera crash and force some/all extensions/scripts to close.
    could opera:
    – reload those extensions automatic in background (only specific) extension that i use.
    – provide shortcut/button to enable it with one click?
    – provide balloon tips for every extension like in chrome, http://imgur.com/2pz8Mgp
    – or all in one balloon tips only for previously active extensions?
which one opera choose or maybe there are other solutions,
the important thing i don`t want to go to extension settings, search and enable it manually one bye one.
    thanks 🙂

Hi! I wanted to ask. What about tabs behaviour? I really miss tabs behavior from opera 12. I’m saying about opening background (middle click) tab in the end of the line and moving back to previously viewing tab after closing instead of moving to next in the line tab. Will it be implemented? At leas as an option?

  • Emil Huber

I whish to have the new task manager in a tab and not as a seperate windows.

    • x a

Regarding “Site Home”, aeyoun could optimize the extension using an event page in place of the classic background process (use "persistent": false in the manifest) – that way the runtime environment of the entire extension would only load if needed (ie a user clicks the button).

I have not tested, though, if the theoretical benefit manifests in reality.

      • Thanks. There should not be a problem to make it an event page instead of background page. I will update the extension. Thank you for the suggestion.

and when will we see native support chrome.google.com/webstore/ ?
and what is the priority you have to do this?
Download Chrome Extension extension stopped working on some systems tonight

    • What do you mean «native support»? You can install Chrome extensions just fine. Most of them will work. (There are very few that wouldn’t work.)

That Google have decided to only allow their own browser to install extensions from their store is another matter. There is an extension in the Opera catalog that removes this artificial limitation.

Opera cannot make decisions on what Google should do on their own site.

      • Vux777

the “fail” of that extension happened yesterday?

      • RX-3200

“native support” for chrome.google.com/webstore/ – is ability to install extensions from there like in CoolNovo or Yandex.browser without any addons which create a separate process

this extension the other day did not work half a day, while in CoolNovo or Yandex.browser – everything was allright

Opera should do so, as did other browsers, and do not dispose of formal replies of the impossibility of something when there is a real proof of the possibility of other browsers (you can try CoolNovo or Yandex.browser to verify this)

        • Daniel didn’t say anything was impossible. In fact, he pointed to an extension to work around Google’s restrictions.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Embedded video from vimeo.com flashes once when mouse pointer is moved onto it or moved within the video frame after staying still for more than ~3s. If I’m not mistaken, the flashing occurs when the overlay with video controls shows up. No such effect in Next or with youtube, in both Dev and Next. On Vimeo itself, everything is fine too.
Example: http://ibigdan.livejournal.com/13906280.html (embeds http://vimeo.com/75542539 ). I’ve tried at least one more page with vimeo content, the behaviour is the same.

    • Vux777

      as an addition
when “click to play” is enabled, there is no way to start Vimeo vids,

      • Dmitry Kirin

        Confirmed.

If I open a folder on QAB, then click on a link in QAB root, the folder is closed but the link won’t open, though it “feels” the click, toggling to the clicked look and back. I guess the proper behaviour would be to close the folder and follow the link clicked. [Reported as DNA-13272.]

It’s only now, that it occurred to me, that there is a button and a GUI way down beneath the list of installed extensions to allow the user to customize extension-provided keyboard shortcuts! 😀

  • skydart

Opera, just tell us that you are NOT going to utilize industry standard bookmarks anymore, and that you are NOT going to implement a means to import or export bookmarks. You are beginning to sound a lot like Obama, loosing credibility with each and every release . . . another broken promise. You’ve been telling us that the ability to utilize bookmarks like we could in version 12 . . . and we are now at development version 19? Really disappointed . . . again.

    • Give them a chance to work. It’s possible that for whatever reason, bookmarks are harder to implement than they were in presto.

      • skydart

. . . if that is the case, then they need to stop promising that it will be realized in the next release. They said that it could be implemented in version 18 . . . and it’s still not there

        • Leonardo Gomes

They never said when or in which build bookmarks would return, they just said that they are bringing the feature back.

          • skydart

This is very true. . . . but it’s like saying . . . we released a new car model and it’s going to be fast . . . . but we’re still working on the wheels, so when we finish with them, we’ll let you know . . . maybe this year and maybe next year.

          • senna_4ever

hey wouldn it be the “QAB”?

        • I guess this is the problem with sharing future plans. If you say something will be done in the future, someone will interpret it as “right away” or “next version”…

    • Nekomajin42

Blazej said a few days ago that they were working on importing from other browsers.

      • senna_4ever

this is a good news 🙂

  • Tüütlüm Ohaya

    1) flag “Universal accelerated overflow scroll” in experiments when enabled
    causing crash on

    2) couple of times opera didn’t rendered pages at all
For example, I opened 4 tabs from hotmail/outlook disqus notification and all 4 of them didn’t rendered (they had content from other tab, last active).
    Nothing helped but restart….

    • Leonardo Gomes

      It crashes Google Plus too.

  • II_ARROWS

Stop making all those QAB fix, none want that stupid QAB!
You are wasting time on the real bookmarks!!!

    • Ice007

Ok – “stupid” maybe is a harsh criticism, but indeed it doesn´t match to the descission to close MyOpera because of concentrating ressources on more important activities.
Here they waste valuable resources on an insufficient function, which is in principle already wrong because of wasting precious horizontal space by ignoring of a lot available vertical space.

  • Dmitry Kirin

I think I found the cause of the layout glitch that I described here: https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2013/10/welcome-to-the-new-home-of-desktop-blog/#comment-1104751520

The problem does not occur if I switch off the rel extension, which implements jumping to prev/next page using a rel attribute. It captures keyDown and incorrectly handles pressing of Space, then it follows a link to what it thinks is a next page. It seems that the extension just does not take into account that discussion thread and Reply area are within an iframe.

However, it does not explain why I haven’t had that glitch with Next…

    • Ralf Brinkmann

That’s really interesting. You found the solution for my problem also. I switched off rel link pager and now I can write here without any problems.

      • Dmitry Kirin

Wow, what a coincidence: we were writing about the same thing at the same time! 🙂 It took me so long because I was switching extensions back on, one by one…))

        • Ralf Brinkmann

That’s international teamwork! Thanks for this. Now I’m looking for a real good replacement for rel link pager. For me it was the best compensation of the old 12.x-build-in page browser.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I can not write any comment with Opera 19.0.1310.0 Developer here. As soon as I press the SPACE key (between two words) in the text field the box is gone, the page scrolls down and the comment columnes become smaller. I’m writing this with Chrome now.

But my real concern was: I would like to have more than 7 columnes in speed dial. Maybe some people like 10, 12 or 15 columnes. The single speed dials should adjust their size automatically. Maybe this is possible for the next version.

    • What would be nice would be to at the very least (if automatic dial size changing is not possible) see a “manual” size changer for the speed dial, as currently if you use the zoom changer the speed dials look pixelated at anything other than 100%.

    • Dmitry Kirin

It must be easy, the maximum number of columns is just a html select tag on the Settings page. Also, this parameter can be changed manually in the file Preferences:

      "speeddial": {
      "column_count": 10
      }

I’ve just tried, it works. 🙂

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, that’s what I do. But it would be nice to have this in the settings page.

      • Vux777

        thanx
I din’t even look at it until now
        http://prntscr.com/22cdgq

    Please fix the “RSS-Feed”-bug!

It´s so awful, that the “Full Article”-link leads to nowhere! I can´t find the comments in this mess.

Btw: In this moment (11:03 p.m.) the newest post is this from this guy “Ralf Brinkmann”, which is from 4 hours ago. The RSS-Feed informs me about a post from “n1ghth4k” posted at 10:44 p.m. (half an hour ago!) which is not displayed in this moment.

    • Dmitry Kirin

      It’s deep down there, https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2013/11/19-developer-update/#comment-1111706284
Seems the thread view “Newest” sorts by top-level posts.

      • Ice007

Indeed. An unfortunate behavior. Better would be, a reply also push the top-level post.

But if even doesn´t I wouldn´t care at least when the feed-link would be correct.

Rather give us tab stacking from old Opera

  • WaytoomanyUIDs

I couldn’t find the answer to this question over at the other blog, so I’m asking it here. Are you also killing off operamail.com as well as the my opera webmail? The webmail interface operamail.com has redirected to fastmail.fm for a long while and I appear to have a fastmail alias for my operamail address.

    • I think fastmail became independent of opera.

      • Vux777

yes, they sold it back to guys that made Fastmail

  • DataZByteS

Just poking my head in onto new devblog.

    Still waiting/requesting following;
Tab stacking, tab change via right-click + mouse-wheel, native notes, ability to modify/remove “default” search engines, per site settings.

Any news on those would be great.
Also have a question, will items in speeddial be ported onto normal bookmark system when that is live? Separation of two is a bit cumbersome.

Bring back vertical tab, and I go back to the Opera.
At wide screen horizontal tab’s ate the vertical workspace. It’s unacceptable for me.
Full screen and vertical tabs – it’s a good idea for comfortable internet-browsing.

    • L33t4opera

O-Menu->Extensions (or enter “opera:extensions”, press enter – on the address bar, or “Ctrl+Shift+E”), there’s checkbox on the left of the “Hide from toolbar” for each extension, that displays a button on the toolbar.

      • Bruno Machado

        I’m ashamed… :p

        Thanks!

  • Vux777

It is impossible to like or comment on facebook social plugin (third party sites that supports FB comments) when block third party cookies and site data is enabled. None of the exceptions work (adding facebook.com, the very site/portal…)
With Disqus, I only need to add disqus.com and third-party sites recognize my login.
In case of FB, my login is recognized, but I’m not able to do anything…

    • I think (not sure, though) that facebook uses other domains like fb.me. try adding that one, too.
Also, try adding the domain of the site you are accessing. for example, to comment on this site i would add both disqus.com and opera.com to the exceptions list.

      • Vux777

        nope:
        facebook.com
        static.ak.facebook.com
        facebook.net
        fb.me
        “site domain”
        ……………
        doesn’t work

        • Ralf Brinkmann

How did you add these exceptions? “facebook.com” or “[*.]facebook.com”? And what about your Adblocker or Ghostery? Especially Ghostery likes to block these “statistic” spy pages.

          • Vux777

            in Settings under Privacy section
            there is a Cookies options
check box “block third party cookies….”

yea, I have ghostery and adblock, but I set them correctly….
and everything works fine when I disable “block TPC…” in Opera

        • Dmitry Kirin

Just a wild guess: check protocols for sites that provide cookies and local storage objects associated with FB:
          https://facebook.com
          https://www.facebook.com
          http://static.ak.facebook.com
          https://s-static.ak.facebook.com

  • Just in case you didn’t notice yet: Discover is broken. Clicking articles is often ignored and the only way to read them is via right-click-menu to open them in a new tab. Might be related to hiding the search field…

  • RTS

Please do “Always show menu”, button “Show cached only”, and “opera:cache ” like in Opera 12.

  • Vux777

I was wondering why other ppl don’t complain so much about slow Opera start. It turns out that problem is between ZoneAlarm and Opera communication.
When I tun off “Application Control” in ZA, Opera starts in couple of seconds, compared with 13-14 sec when AC is ON.
But that’s not the case with CoolNovo, Chrome or Yandex…
They don’t stuck on start when AC is enabled.
so, if you having similar problems, check your firewall

    • Dmitry Kirin

So I was right… I was having the same thing with ESET antivirus/firewall, and the solution was also to switch off application change checking.
      https://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/107676502?startidx=250#comment112510432

      • Vux777

        hahaha
        yes, you were right
but back then, I didn’t realize (totally forgot) that ZA also scans files, registry keys etc…. similar to AV
now I’m on Comodo FW…. Opera starts fast (much faster then before)

        • Dmitry Kirin

I didn’t explicitly mention firewall then, because I thought it was an “antiviral part” of ESET. However, the border between firewall and AV in ESET is rather strange: for example, firewall setup is under what’s called “Network” settings, but URL blocker is in a totally different place—Internet and E-mail… 🙂

There was an even stranger thing: if I turn on that app checking feature, Opera still starts quickly for some minutes, but after that, the problem is back. 🙂 I wrote to ESET, maybe they did something in the most recent version 7. I haven’t tested it since then.

          • Vux777

            maybe is on Opera side
they changed something so that FW’s don’t recognize it as common chromium/browser behavior
            all other browsers don’t stuck…IE, FF, coolnovo,chrome,yandex, old opera…

  • Did somebody report already that tab’s close buttons sometimes stay in hovered state? AFAIR this issue persists since O15…
    (Steps to reproduce:
    1) open two tabs and make sure there’s some space left so they’re not squeezed
    2) close the one to the left
-> since the second tab will take first one’s spot, it’ll have its close button in hovered state, but taking the mouse away will not reset it)

    • Vux777

I did experienced that bug, but it’s not reproducible in way you describe it… at lest not in my case…seems random

The Gmail issue I commented on earlier is still present in this release. See below (sorry for double posting – not sure how to submit a formal bug report):

    https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2013/11/18-next/#comment-1122811720

I am experienced a problem (both Stable and Next) viewing Gmail messages with multiple labels. Each label is displayed on a separate line (often with a blank line between each label) and the labels themselves appear above the subject line. In IE and Chrome 31 labels follow the subject on the same line. Opera’s behavior changed about a week ago – believe it was with the 18.0.1284.18 update but may have been the one prior. I erroneously assumed it was a transient thing that would quickly be corrected but now I am seeing it on multiple channels and multiple computers. I retested with a fresh Stable download on a clean machine with no extensions – same result Thoughts? BTW – Win 8.1×64

    • Davey126

As a test I reinstalled Opera 15.x and found the problem existed there as well. This was not always the case; something probably changed in the Gmail web interface/code that Opera is not handling. As noted labels do display properly in Chrome 31 and IE 11.

tumblr videos won’t play in opera

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, I can. I have to click it twice. It’s only a very short video. W7x64

Edit: I have just clicked on “Unit Songs” and tried out another video. No problems.

      • Vux777

seems like “click to play” is a problem
when enabled, no way to play video (no matter how many times I click on it)
with “play automatically”, video works fine (needs restart for change to take effect)

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Ah, so maybe it’s a kind of security behaviour.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Thanks for the reponses. I set tumblr as an excepetion for “click to play” and now i can watch the videos.

  • Edoc

so.. if I try to copy the URL from the URL box.. protocol is not copied.. https://www.opera.com/desktop/2013/11/19-developer-update/ see the problem? FIX IT.

    • Leonardo Gomes

By url box you mean the address bar? If so, the protocol is included when i copy any address from there.

      • Edoc

That’s what I meant, to make it more obvious, if I open the extension
tab and try to copy the url, it will only copy “extensions”, instead of
“opera://extensions” (in fact I do not see the protocol at all, no full
url, no nothing..), it happens with every protocol, with default
settings and a clean installation of opera 19.0.1310.0

        • Leonardo Gomes

Don’t know if it’s related to one of the changes i’ve made on opera:flags, but here the protocols are copied as i said.

        • Vux777

this is what I get when I copy and paste from addressbar
          http://prntscr.com/24q3g4

same goes for all protocols (http, https…)

          • Springer

Hmm, like Edoc, i don’t get any protocols at all – and it annoys the hell out of me.

  • James

Please add dragging on extension icons so i can reorder it to how i want it. 🙂

    • I’d like to tag onto this: If you do this, is there any chance of seeing customizable toolbars as well?

  • senna_4ever

please, add a “create folder” option for right menu click in a bookmark folder
and when i create a new folder, this should be created where I did the right click menu and not as the last bookmark item, because is hard for me everytime when i create a folder to roll the bookmarks i have till find the new created folder and drag it for where I would like.

Few things here: It’s damn fine, how do I mask as firefox or chrome, and if I can’t, how do I make tumblr load more than one page because tumblr doesn’t send normal script to opera (it loads more pages in the ask than one, why not on the dash? hm, I wonder…)

    • Leonardo Gomes

There is no “mask as…” on Opera Blink.

Hmm, what do you mean by “load more than one page”? Tumblr here seems ok

    • L33t4opera

how do I mask as firefox or chrome

If I understand you well, then you can try the User-Agent Switcher extension for that purpose.
