Opera introduces Content Picks, delivering curated quality content to your start page

A laptop shows Immersive Mode of Opera's new Content Picks.

We are happy to introduce a new feature that will deliver customized quality content right to your start page: Content Picks. It’s a customized content feed with a twist: purposeful, uplifting stories curated by our editorial team that let you dive deep into the topics that matter most to you.

In developing the Content Picks feature, we set out to achieve three specific goals: Save you time, expand your knowledge, and help you find the positive, insightful stories you’re searching for. Our hope is that you can spend your time actually reading – rather than looking for – engaging content from outside of our typical content bubble that will have an uplifting impact on your everyday life. So let’s dive into this new feature.

Useful and helpful content on your Start Page

Content Picks is a slate of daily curated content right on your Start Page in Opera Browser. It focuses on the positive, helpful, and relevant information you want. The content is carefully selected by the Opera editorial team from high-quality, trusted sources with the ultimate goal of delivering peace of mind, curiosity, and truly helpful information across a number of topics. Here’s how it works:

When you open a new tab on Opera Browser, you are greeted with the top three Content Picks just below your Speed Dials. These cover a wide range of topics, from health and wellness to personal finance and career development – helpful topics that motivate you, improve your daily life, open your mind to new questions and possibilities, or simply teach you something new.

With Content Picks on your Start Page – alongside your favorite Speed Dials, weather widget and other Opera features – you’re now able to start your day, and take breaks throughout, in a cozy space that positively impacts your mind and mood.

Dive deep in Immersive Mode and save time with AI features

The new Immersive Mode allows you to go beyond our top three recommended Content Picks and explore what interests you more deeply. Whatever your mood or the time of day, it’s filled with content to match: inspiring stories in the morning, insightful articles in the afternoon, and stories that promote fulfillment and introspection in the evening. It’s right at your fingertips – just hover your cursor over “View Content Picks” to dive right into it. And if there’s a story that piques your interest but you want to read it later, you can simply save it to your collection.

So you’ve saved time having to look for fresh content – but what if you don’t always feel like you have time to read it? That’s where Aria, Opera’s native browser AI, comes in to help. You can click “2 Min Summary” to get a condensed version of any article, ensuring that you take away the key points while saving valuable time. It works the other way, too! If the summary – or even the full article – left you wanting more, you can take advantage of one of Aria’s new features, Page Context Mode, to explore the topic more deeply.

Relevant content throughout your day

Content Picks are refreshed three times a day, delivering articles and topics paced for your rhythm and routine. In the morning, you can start with light, helpful, and inspiring stories that lift your mood and set a positive tone for the day. For example, like How Accepting Things Will Go Wrong Can Make You Happier and How Hacking the Immune System Can Slow Ageing.

As the day progresses, you see afternoon stories carefully selected to provide you with valuable knowledge and insights. These stories cover topics that you really want to know about, keeping you informed and up to date on the latest trends and developments – say, for example, What is a Milestone? A SMART-er Approach to Achieving Your Life Goals, or Netflix’s Head of Design Answers Every Question You Ever Had About Netflix.

Then, as your day winds down, you’ll find more in-depth articles that pose interesting questions, or promote introspection. These stories will challenge your thinking and provide you with a deeper understanding of relevant subjects, such as Why We Love Time Travel Stories and A 12-Minute Meditation to Widen Your Perspective.

Break out of the news bubble and improve your day

When you’re ready for a break from the news cycle, open a new tab in Opera Browser and explore your Content Picks. Spend less time searching and more time reading, with fewer distractions and more of the articles you want.

The Content Picks feature will be updated in phases as we receive feedback. We’ll collect only very simple, statistical data (not linked to users in any way) so that we can see what people like and deliver more of it. In coming phases, you can expect more sources from different regions of the globe, ways to customize the sources and content you receive, and more – making your reading time even more relevant and rewarding.

Let us know what you think about this feature, either here in the comments or by rating this feature on your Start Page.

Happy reading, and happy browsing!

Currently, the feature is available only in the United States and Poland, and can be enabled/disabled by going to opera://flags and searching for Content Picks. When the feature is enabled, it can also be disabled by clicking the gear icon next to it, or in Opera Browser Settings by toggling Show Content Picks.
