Hi all,

It’s a quick beta update. Chromium was updated to version 59.0.3071.61.

Short highlights:

  • We fixed cut icons when dark theme enabled
  • The default theme is now as small as possible as to not occupy package space

The changelog contains full list of changes.

    Thanks Kornelia )

Light theme is too white and hurt my eyes, and dark theme is too dark, also not so good in contrast with white text or white pages. Please, make something in between, or custom color would be nice. It was beautiful in Opera 44… Why good things, must disappear ?

    • Veles

      dark theme is fine

    • Night Man

dark theme is ok not very dark

    • mattho1

yes. why opera stop using “windows theme”?

  • With this version fonts on Windows 7 are not “smooth” (cleartype)

    • I think this has been the case for a few builds (at least in Windows 10), but I didn’t get a response regarding this issue, nor even if this is a bug or actually an intended “feature”.

      • Eugene B.

It’s a bug. Already fixed in O47 Dev. I guess it will be backported to O46 Beta as well.

        • Thanks, Eugene. Very much appreciated.

A bug got reintroduced recently, present in this version as well.

To reproduce it: Open a folder in the Bookmarkbar -> rightclick a bookmark -> press v (on German interface) on your keyboard to delete it

Opera crashes and restarts. I think I tried it one or two more times after it initially happened, to confirm it. After that Opera started with all Extensions disabled.

Clicking it with your mouse works just fine.

Some months ago we already had this bug in the beta, I reported it and it got fixed, but I don’t know which version that was ..

    Windows 7 x64
    Opera beta 32bit 46.0.2597.14

Right click on the icon´s of installed extensions on the sidebar doesen´t work anymore !!!

    • Kornelia

      Thanks, reported!

  • loligans

It would be super useful if users could access the Browser Address Bar while in full-screen mode. Currently we have to Exit full-screen mode in order to access the Browser Address Bar.

I see the “–force-device-scale-factor=0.9” for DPI settings, which kills the cursor in boxes such as this one, hasn’t been fixed yet. I hope it will be soon, or you’ll revert back to the previous code: –alt-high-dpi-setting=90 -noautoupdate .

    • Sebastian

Could you clarify what exactly means ‘kills the cursor in boxes’?
      Please attach screenshot if possible.

      • romath

That means that there is no cursor visible in the comment box here when the “force” command is used in the Opera beta startup sequence (launcher.exe…) Same at nytimes.com. It’s there ok at talkingpointsmemo.com, which suggests site programming or engines are part of it. In the discussion of the last beta, see Leonardo Gomes last reply to me confirming the missing cursor also with Chrome, which suggested to him it’s a more general Chromium issue. The non operation of the “alt-high-dpi” command with the last beta was initially reported as a bug, then updated to reflect the change to the “force” command and subsequent discussion about the cursor issue.

Active setting “Continue were I left off” does not work fluently, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Plugin “Magic Actions for Youtube” is not loaded upon visiting Youtube.com, only after a page refresh it gets activated.

Did not happen with previous beta release of v46 stream.

Please consider adding a scrolling tabs feature. Like Firefox, but in your own Opera flavour. For those of us wanting tab scrolling of 100+ tabs (or 200+) which can scroll back and fourth. And still see the full fav-icon etc, and not all bunched up so small you cannot click on any single tab. I like FF tab scrolling back and fourth, but don’t like FF. And use 100+ tabs and would love to just scroll them left and right.

    • Kornelia

      I’ll push your suggestion further.

      • FluffyBoyo

Its the one feature I need and miss from using FF. Using 100+ tabs in Opera kind sucks at the moment. Please allow the option for tab scrolling on the tab bar like FF but Opera version.

    • Kai Ockendorf

Then it’s time to bring back an old Opera feature…scrolling through taps via mouse gestures (right mouse click + scroll wheel) 😉

  • Shortest change log I have seen in a while

    • Kornelia

We had 1-line changelogs in the past so nothing extraordinary 😉

      • I have seen most of them since Opera 9.5 (back then It was called Opera Next)

  • Thanks for the update!
I’d like to report that Disqus is broken on some websites, such as http://www.onmsft.com.
This was also the case in the previous beta-build.

    • Ewa

      Could you provide screenshot?

      • Nevermind, I fixed the issue by disabling and enabling the native adblocker.
        The Disqus-circle just kept spinning.

  • 2112

    Thanks. Chromium is GTK3 now.
Is Opera GTK3 planned for linux?

  • novainc

I have a bug on Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.2 LTS 64 Bits. When clicking on a youtube video with an ad in it, if I don’t skip the ad and let it play through, at the end of the ad the video won’t play and instead the site will load the next video in the autoplay list.

  • Merkulov Sergey

Why the Opera Turbo item was removed from the main menu?

    • Ari

It was already discussed. They won’t bring it back, it was designed that way.

    • Ariane Lu

I didn’t receive any reply about why they moved it into advanced options, i don’t need it since i have a high speed broadband (about 4 years ago)

  • yigido

I want to use Opera browser! Can you please contact with Google about it?
The New Google Earth force me to use Chrome to use Earth!
    https://prnt.sc/fhuqwz
I do not want to use Chrome browser, thanks!

    • Ari

LOL, I don’t think they will and most likely Google won’t even care about it, they are advertising their own browser this way. Try Chrome UA Spoofer extension.

      • yigido

User Agent change didn’t work either

    • Ariane Lu

Use extension change user agent to Chrome

      • Andrey

Please screenshot – if google.earth working with extension.

        • Ariane Lu

Sorry, i’m wrong. I can see progress bar, but it not work anyway.

          • yigido

User Agent change didn’t work either!

  • nonqu

I’m having issues with Netflix on both beta and stable.

On Firefox everything is fine, but on Opera I’m getting an error:
    “Streaming Error
    Unable to update the EME.
    Error Code: O7363-1260-00000024”.

    This
seems to be the case not only on Netflix but with the whole browser, I
just didn’t stumble upon a scenario in which EME would be necessary
    before.

When I go to opera://components I get and error(?) after clicking “Check for updates” on Widevine: Component not updated.

    Windows 7×64 if that’s relevant.

  • Paweł A.

Or maybe to change the slider of the page to a darker color? Screen

Opera Bookmark and password synchronisation seems not to work when you enable a passphrase. Does synch between desktop and android work at all? Anybody else is having those issues?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Only Opera for desktops support passphrase.

      • andy

yeah Okay… I understand… but this is really bad. I mean when sync does not work at all… using the sync without a passphrase is really insecure. Anyway… thanks for the answer… hope they will add this soon.

I really need the “clear history on exit” feature like firefox. Please add this into Opera, everything sounds good except the lack of that feature. Thanks
