Today we’ve got developer update for you.

You can check how address bar speculative prerenderer works on google.com site. As a reminder – when you type something, the browser uses the previous behavior to predict which web site you intend to load. If it finds a match, it will start loading that website in the background. Previous behavior means all previous address bar inputs which led to loading a specific web site. Also when you search for something, it will load the results likely to be clicked, in the background. Please note that this feature is not working on address bar yet.

There are many video popout fixes included.

More detailed description in the full changelog as always.

Hi Kornelia, thanks for the update and fixes, it’s quite nice build ๐Ÿ˜‰

"DNA-53326 Not possible to clear downloads by keyboard" - @ralfbrinkmann:disqus might be pleased, I really appreciate, that this is fixed too.

    New flags:
    – opera:flags#horizontal-link-selection
Enables link's text selection using horizontal mouse drag.

    – opera:flags#prerender-search-results
    Enables prerender for search results.

    – opera:flags#prerender-url-input
Enables prerender for url input field.

    Removed flags: #extensions-component, #no-theme-in-start-page-views, #rss-in-personal-news, #snow-tile-icons, and #speed-dial-suggestions.

    • Wando Schneider

      @ralfbrinkmann:disqus will be very pleased!

  • Ralf Brinkmann

YESSSSSSS! “Clear Downloads” on the download page is working now (by keyboard)!

    • Rafaล‚ Chล‚odnicki

I guess it was worth to scream about it in every blog post. ๐Ÿ™‚

Apart from it being possible to tab through the elements, we’ve also added spatial navigation using shift+arrows which allows for quicker navigation. Currently supported only in Downloads.

      • Marc

        That’s awesome! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Ralf Brinkmann

        ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you!

      • Cobalt

        Really cool stuff!

      • NoName

        Nice with spatial navigation!
However it’s currently quite buggy in Downloads.
I can’t go from one day-section to the next (downwards).

        • Rafaล‚ Chล‚odnicki

Nice catch. Reported DNA-58084 for it.

    • NoName

      What is the shortcut?
I don’t see any indication for what it should be, on the button.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

With Shift-TAB you can jump directely to the button “Erase downloads” in the upper right corner. With TAB only you can move through the menu points in the left column.

        • NoName

          Ah, thanks.
Seems like the search button and “Clear download” order should be reversed.

But with spatial navigation, it’s not a problem for me. That works fine in this case ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Ralf Brinkmann

True. This is also a fast and good possibility.

  • Ghirahim

    VPN is still dead.

    • Robert Tomaszewski

Could you give more details about e.g. the platform, version? What VPN location you wanted to enable: automatic or any specific? Thank you in advance!
BTW. I just double checked that VPN works at my end on Win10, Opera build x64.

      • Ghirahim

Win 10 x64 and Opera x64. Germany is the only location available. It says “Connecting…” and that’s it.

        • Robert Tomaszewski

Could you try cleaning “Third party services data” in opera:/config -> Privacy&security -> Clear browsing data …, please?

          • Ghirahim

Works perfectly, thanks! What was wrong?

          • juhurus

            great! that fixed it. Thanks

      • bluesatin

I’m experiencing the same thing, just sits on ‘connecting…’ forever.

I’m in the UK, only server listed in the drop-down is Netherlands and I’m on Win7 x64 + Opera Dev 43.0.2412.0.

It’s been like that for a while, not new to this version.

      • juhurus

VPN hasn’t worked for many month, I’m in Western Australia
        Version: 43.0.2412.0
        Update stream: developer
        System: Windows 10 64-bit (WoW64)
it just stays on “Connecting….” and the location list is empty

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      Works here (Germany) fine.

    • Giuseppe Allegretta

      Same thing for me (Italy).
Stuck on ‘Connecting’. The only country in the drop down menu is Nederlands
      Mac OSX Sierra 10.12.1

The full changelog points to version 42

    • Robert Tomaszewski

Thanks for catching this. Typo in url corrected.

  • Blapidoup

The popout video is still not resizing accordingly and proportionally when you resize one size ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Robert Tomaszewski

The fix is in progress and should be included with the next Developer release.

      • Blapidoup

        Nice to hear, thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
        Keep up the good work!

Builtin PDF-Viewer still behaves erratic; duplicates pages. [Linux/64bit]
(Scrolling through the following document, e.g., I encounter parts of the toc multiple times โ†’ ftp://ftp.mpi-sb.mpg.de/pub/tex/mirror/ftp.dante.de/pub/tex/macros/latex/contrib/fontspec/fontspec.pdf )

    • Robert Tomaszewski

Good catch. Thank you! Indeed that’s looks erratic on Win10 too. Let me address this as a bug report.

  • patkoscsaba

Hei, nice build. Any of you know how to navigate to “Continue anyway” on the self-signed certificate warning on MacoOSX? I tried the forums, but nobody seems to know it. I hate that I have to click the button with the mouse each time.

    • bwat47

I have not found any way to get Opera (or Chrome) to remember to trust certificates on OSX no matter what I try, it seems to be a general chrome issue.

It does not seem to matter if you check the box for ‘always trust’ certificate etc… chrome/opera will always throw that prompt.

It does seem to work with safari if you tell it to always trust

      • patkoscsaba

Yeah, that’s true as well. But at least in Chrome you can hit TAB 3 times and then ENTER. You don’t have to move your hand to the mouse and literally click the button.

  • inDigazzZ

    Why #no-theme-in-start-page-views was removed?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Because the experiment has ended.

I know, the developer’s stage is not, where translation of new strings is usually done. But โ€New private windowโ€œ (from the main menu) should be a rather old string, shouldn’t it? It’s not translated to de-DE. [x64 on Win10]

    • xirit64

Same here with Opera Beta 42.0.2393.38 (and in the Speed Dial context menu)

  • Pierre771

    Thks for fixing plugins loadling
There are still 2 installers opera developer for Windows, 64 bits or not
I don’t understand : i believed there was one, compatible

    • Robert Tomaszewski

The standard link “Opera developer for Windows” should lead in installing either 32 or 64 bit version depending on the platform you use. The other link “Opera developer for Windows x64” points to the full offline x64 version, just in case.

      • Pierre771

Thks. What do you mean by “offline” ?

        • Leonardo Gomes

The offline installer is a full installer that doesn’t depend on the internet to work.
The online one downloads last Opera from the server so it only works if you are connected.

          • Pierre771

            OK, thanks

  • twofingertony

“Currency convertion[sic] in the search pop-up” in opera://flags
    Should be conversion.

    • Robert Tomaszewski

Thanks for catching this. We will fix that ofc ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Vux777

    horizontal-link-selection works fine
but why you keeping link dragging on right click still? (could be vertical)

    • Kornelia

This feature is still under development but as designed:
      – horizontal mouse movements: select text
      – vertical mouse movements: drag link

  • nanana1

Files downloaded by this Developer version continues to be tagged with the Unblock security message even when it is disabled on my computer ๐Ÿ™

    • Leonardo Gomes

I see that message too but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I can run the file normally without needing to do anything different.

      • nanana1

It should not be there if you have disabled it in your system and although you can run the file it does introduce one additional dialog box :

        • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t see that dialogue here when I run a file downloaded with Opera.

          • nanana1

The dialogue nag box will not show up with media files.

Try downloading the Opera installer exe file, run it and you will see this dialogue nag box.

          • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve tried with Opera’s x64 installer for Windows.

I also tried with another exe file and didn’t get that dialogue.

BTW, how can I check if this ‘feature’ is enabled or not on my computer? I don’t remember have changed anything regarding this but…who knows?

          • nanana1

This feature is default enabled on Windows but I heard that if your Windows does not contain Internet Explorer you may not see this security nag dialogue.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Hmm, mine has IE. I only see the UAC dialogue depending on the file.

          • Ari

nanana1, it has nothing to do with Opera, I’m not seeing the dialogue after I did this:
            – Go to Internet settings from IE
            – Security tab
            – Click custom level button
            – Search for option Launching Applications and Unsafe Files
            – Set it to enable (not secure)

          • nanana1

Thanks for your workaround tip !

This has got to do with Opera because previous Opera builds did not have this Unblock security message which was introduced in the recent builds, also if you use the current Chrome (Stable or Beta) or Firefox to download files, they also did not have this Unblock security message

          • Ari

That’s odd, I have been on beta for months and always have seen this message. I don’t know about stable.

Anyway, I have just tried Chrome and you are right, it doesn’t show up, but I think is good to have that warning for non-power users. Just 2 days ago a friend of mine call me to ask me what was that warning so I asked him what was the filename to tell him if he should open it or not.

          • nanana1

I believe users will see this message if they did not disable the Unblock security tag embedded into their downloaded files by using the regedit method, etc.

I have applied the regedit change and did not see this Unblock security tag in all my downloaded files until Opera build 42.0.2392.0 and from then on, all later Opera builds have this Unblock security tags whether users disable it or not.

As I have tested, Chrome and Firefox does not introduce this security tags in their downloaded files.

As of now, I have stopped updating my Opera and I am still using Opera build 42.0.2374.0 which is the last good build before this regressive Unblock security tag showed up.

          • Ari

Well “last good” and “regressive” build is your opinion. As I explained before I think it is a step forward for regular user security, if you are a power user you will manage to disable the warning as I googled it in 2 minutes and pasted here the steps.

blogs, opera, com redirects to blogs.opera.com, so it’s sufficient to change “changelog43” to “changelog-for-43”. OR set up a redirect and already-shipped archives become valid!

Archives that I have all have bad changelog links:

    opera-stable_41.0.2353.56_amd64.deb => blogs,opera,com/desktop/changelog41/#b2353.56
    opera-beta_42.0.2393.14_amd64.deb => blogs,opera,com/desktop/changelog42/#b2393.14

    opera-developer_43.0.2412.0_amd64.deb => blogs,opera,com/desktop/changelog43/#b2412.0

“changelog-for-42” substitution is successful. 41 is actually “changelog-opera-41”. Either the URL should be stable (changelog-for-%d) or the human-assigned name needs to go into the .deb packaging info…

  • filbo

Here’s a mixed bag of issues I’m currently having with Opera (tested up through 43.0.2412.0).

If you’d like me to use the “bug wizard” to formally report any particular one with more details, tell me which…

http://www.facebook.com: embedded videos don’t work unless I turn off acceleration (with acceleration they produce audio + solid green video box w/ darkening gradient near the bottom). Flash PPAPI, Linux 3.13.0-101-generic x86_64, Mesa 10.1.3, Sandybridge mobile 8086:0116

http://www.facebook.com: although embedded videos work with acceleration disabled, must click twice: 1st time shows a “spinning circle” for ~5 seconds, then returns to “>” symbol; 2nd time actually plays (well, gets to “click to run adobe flash player”; 3rd click plays). The same clumsy path applies when acceleration is enabled, except the end result is green-gradient + audio

http://www.facebook.com “Animated GIFs” (actually fed as a different kind of embedded video) don’t work, period: initially see a static picture with “GIF” in dashed circle; click -> grey square with “>” play symbol; click -> grey square with “>” play symbol *and* GIF-dashed-circle on top; click -> continues to toggle GIF-circle on and off

    – Chrome’s flags to disable specific sorts of acceleration are missing

    – many chrome://* == opera://* == about://* URLs do not work even though their names are clearly visible in the binary

    – greasemonkeyn content script under violentmonkey (2.5.1/2.5.2) has access to global namespace of page Javascript — not necessarily Opera bug, but might be

    – Ctrl-9 shortcut switches to 9th tab rather than rightmost tab (as in Chrome parent) — not a bug, but should be user-settable via:

    – no shortcut action for “switch to rightmost tab” [note: I write “rightmost” because “last” would easily be misunderstood as “the one I was just at”]

    – shortcuts which I establish, Alt-1 through Alt-9 meaning “switch to tab [1..8],rightmost-but-actually-9”, work — but the key sequence I typed, Alt-1 etc., is *also* received by pages under http://www.facebook.com, which then do Horrible Things

    – no way to convince tabs to open next to current tab, rather than rightmost. I want to be able to have separate keyboard sequences & separate context menus choices for: “new tab next to current”; “new tab, rightmost”; “open link in new tab next to current”; “open link in new tab, rightmost”

    – lack of [most-recently-used / window layering / z-index / ?I don’t know what to call it?] tab scheme like Opera Presto

    – presentation in “Keyboard shortcuts” of the “switch to Nth tab” is in sorted English order: “eighth, fifth, first, etc.” — please use “1st, 2nd, 3rd … 9th” so they sort sensibly

    – cannot configure mouse gestures at all, which is bad since Opera’s default gestures have always been dead wrong ๐Ÿ™‚

    – cannot disable close box on tab

    – any chance of getting back some of the power seen in Opera Presto where keyboard, mouse gesture, menu, etc. commands were all the same language and it was an actual language, with some expressive & control power? (not a very good language; a better one would certainly be welcome as long as it had the same sorts of abilities…)

  • Ari

Issue: When I open a link with middle click or Ctrl+click, then grab the new tab (without having opened yet) and detach it from the window it will look like this:

It doesn’t happen always, but you have to detach the tab while it’s loading. It happens to me mostly when I open a YT video link, but it’s reproducible with any website.

For fixing it I have to create a new tab on that new window and then go back to the one with the issue and the content will appear.
    Windows 8.1Pro x64 – Ox64 latest dev

    • Leonardo Gomes

I remember have seen some similar reports.

      • Ari

Yeap, I did those on latest dev and beta ๐Ÿ™‚ But as I didn’t get any response I will keep reporting

  • NoName

Using Windows shortcut to move the Opera windows fails in Win10.
This has been the case in at least the two latest developer versions.

When in fullscreen, Win+Left or Win+Right (Move to left/right screen) does not work.
When in fullscreen, Win+Down does not restore the window, but moves it so it’s nowhere to be found. Even selecting it on the taskbar does not show it anywhere (it’s offscreen somewhere).

I have two monitors side be side (same resolution), if that matters.
It happens on both my Win10 machines, which are both dual monitors setup.

    • Robert Tomaszewski

I check this behavior on Windows 10 with Opera stable, beta and developer, as well as Chrome and standard windows file explorer. When in fullscreen Win+Left or Win+Right none of the apps work according to my testing. Win+Down and Win+Up works in fullscreen work as maximize and minimize in my case ๐Ÿ™‚

      • NoName

A clean USB installation of developer also has this issue. I also have to make a correction, it’s Win+Shift+Left or Right.
I will edit my first post to fit this.

Both the former and newly released Opera beta, does not have this problem.
        So it’s a regression.

Edit: I also want to point out, that I don’t have any 3rd party dual monitor application or anything out of the ordinary. All my other applications works fine with those shortcuts.

      • NoName

Win+Down only works as minimize if the window is in “normal” mode. If you have a window maximized, it will restore the window instead.
        That’s where it happens.

Actually Win+Left fails as well, when it it supposed to go to restore mode again (Often require 3 times Win+Left or Win+Right).

And with some further testing, I found out that the window disappears to my non-existing 3rd monitor to the right ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Leonardo Gomes

In Settings > websites > Flash, I have ‘ask before running Flash content’ selected but I see this kind of content running without me being asked about it.

    Anyone else seeing this behavior?

  • Chawoobie

I’ve tried installing both the regular and offline versions, but Norton keeps blocking it as having virus error. Beta version installed just fine.

I like the hover feature of the currency converter.

However, there is a problem with the string format. Now it’s like 12,345.67
The problem is with the decimal point/comma. It would be good to adjust the format to the browser language. Or use the decimal point, but instead of the comma, use whitespace.

briefly: I want to access the download folder while the download is still going on.
I can do only opening the full downloads page. it’s annoying.
instead I suggest adding a simple “open folder” icon in the download popup, just near the other icons to stop and abort download.
or add a right mouse button popup with “open folder” menu item.
what do you think about it?

I am surprised nobody else reported the issue I’m having: on my desktop (HW acceleration enabled) a couple of hours after installing, opera failed to display any content at all (webpages, settings, …). Pop-up menus (VPN, downloads, …) are working fine. After reinstalling opera (NOT a clean install), it worked fine for some time, than the error recurred. Turned HW acceleration off, since this build works fine on my laptop. Will post any further findings.

PDF document http://thorconpower.com/docs/hargraves_moir_2010.pdf mis-displays in the version of Chrome PDF viewer embedded in 43.0.2412.0.

It’s a 10-page document. Page 1 is good, page 2 is blank, then pages 3-10 show a repeat of page 1, then 2-8; contents of pages 9-10 are missing.

Chrome PDF viewer in Chrome 49.0.2623.112 (highest version my system will run) displays all 10 pages correctly.

Both browsers use Chrome PDF Viewer (chrome-extension://mhjfbmdgcfjbbpaeojofohoefgiehjai/), according to about:plugins, but I can’t find version numbers.

Sometimes is seems that Opera (at least Developer) freezes a while when adblocker is on and today I noticed that happening when Finnish Iltalehti is open: http://www.iltalehti.fi/uutiset/201611192200028440_uu.shtml – and I noticed some “movement” in right sides ad-area when Opera starts responging again. (Not so exact report but anyway can anyone confirm?) This happened in latest Developer version and Macbook Pro with OS X 10.12.1

  • Leonardo Gomes

So if you go to start page settings > navigation and uncheck ‘tabs’, it is checked again when you relaunch Opera? If so, what about other settings?

The transparency effect in internal pages was removed a while ago.

    • Rรฉmy Dubois

I’ve already tried to go to start page settings but doesn’t work :/. About the transparency effect, I think I found it in opera://flags when it had disappeared but it isn’t there anymore. Thank you for your reply ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Leonardo Gomes

If your settings aren’t kept then your profile may be corrupted or there is a bug.
Try a clean standalone installation and see if the issue happens.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I have still the problem, that Opera is set as default program for PDF files, when I set Opera as default Browser in the Windows 10 system settings after an update or new installation (changing from developer to beta or back for example). Hi folks, here’s another scrolling bug:
    *Open https://theintercept.com/2016/11/22/media-stars-agree-to-off-the-record-meeting-with-trump-break-agreement-whine-about-mistreatment/
    *Scroll up/down
*Every time I scroll, the site’s side menu enters from the left and covers the text.

The same goes for other sites that have fixed elements which are supposed to vanish when you scroll down. Example: Emby server (sorry, that’s a local server – maybe I can add another example later)

Maybe you should show us a screenshot. I don’t see any side menu (that covers anything). Or I misunderstand you. Or you need a Surface Pro4. ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s someone with VPN issues? (Got this message: VPN Network unavailable, Opera is resolving this issues.)

    W7X64/Opera X64 latest version.
