Hi there,

It’s Monday and it’s developer update 🙂

Personal news highlights:
  • Web feed update bug fixed. New content gets fetched automatically.
  • Web feed preview. For example, head to http://mars.nasa.gov/rss/ and click “All Mars” link. Content will be displayed using layout known from personal news (you can switch between two modes). Moreover you can also add this feed to your sources. Note: If you have RSS detection extension, you may need to disable it.
  • My sources configuration stored in preferences and synced with Opera account.
  • Usual round of fixes and visual improvements.

webfeed_preview

Other fixes
  • Crash on dragging tab out when page is loading is now fixed. It was a nasty one and some of you were reporting this issue.
  • Crash on adding own theme in private window is also fixed

Chromium is updated to the version 54.0.2824.2.

Please check out full changelog for details.

    • Kornelia

Hi, we have similar issue on our radar (DNA-55612). Could you send me your *.log files from C:UsersAppDataLocalTempOpera Installer? That would be very helpful. My email address is: kmielczarczyk@opera.com

      • SiMcarD

        I sent you

        • Kornelia

          Thank you, investigating.

          • SiMcarD

I retried to install latest Opera build and…it worked!
            I don’t know what to say…It’s a mistery…

      • SiMcarD

No problem found on my notebook with Windows 10 x64 insider preview build 14905

  • Кostadin

OK. I think I notice issues with GUI’s responsiveness. Sometimes nothing happens after click or Opera hangs on loading. Opera 32bit on Win 10 x64 (no anniversary update for me 🙂

    • NoName

Any specific case where this happens?
I can’t see any difference compared to previous build. Same OS version as you.

      • Кostadin

Say, you go to your Facebook profile and start scrolling the newsfeed. From time to time Opera will hang loading the posts.

  • GDanger

Are there any plans to allow import of an OPML file into the news feed?

    • That’s on our internal todo list as well. Bumping priority a bit then 🙂

  • xiang

Sync is working again, Windows 10 🙂
    Thanks!

    • Kornelia

      Great to hear!

  • Lu

Is there a way to prevent the backspace from working as a shortcut in the address bar? For now it is set to go to the previous page. I’m trying to make it work the way it used to before this feature got removed.

    • NoName

I have this problems as well. It was reported a few developer builds ago.

  • Gordon Freeman

If you remove a extension it is also useful to display the icon of the extension in the dialog.

  • Nekomajin43

Will you implement an RSS source pageAction?

    • I can’t promise anything at this point.

      • Nekomajin43

        Oh my…

Hi Kornelia, thanks for the update and fixes 😉
Nice to see this useful addition: Shift+Middle mouse on the tile of SD.

    New flags:
    – opera:flags#power-save-mode-disables-smooth-scrolling
If the feature is enabled, smooth scrolling is disabled while the battery-saver is enabled.

    – opera:flags#settings-component
Displays Settings page as a component.

    – opera:flags#gl-composited-texture-quad-borders
Renders a border around GL composited texture quads to help debug and study overlay support.

    – opera:flags#enable-speculative-launch-service-worker
Speculatively launch service workers using touch and mouse events.

    Removed flags: #power-save-mode-phase2, and #navigation-panel-settings.

  • Tom Kollien

Lots of tabs goes to about:blank after restarting, have to close them and open new, then go to the link…

    • Robert

      Same

      • Chris

Yes, I can confirm the same issue here (Win 10 x64)

      • Kornelia

Yep, I got the same situation this morning with gmail. I’ll report this issue.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

This Opera Developer still has the problem, that it does not remember the (scroll-) position of a page on the screen, when I reload the page. This problem did not exist in the last Beta and in the Developer 41.0.2315.0 and before.
    W10x64.

    • SoniC

      Same on latest Dev & Win8.1 x64

    • Kornelia

Latest chromium update broke this. It’s already reported. https://bugs.opera.com/browse/DNA-56268

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Kornelia, I can’t believe that this is the reason. I don’t have and never had this problem with Google Chrome, Vivaldi, Firefox (ok, no Chromium) and the Beta. And the last Beta was published AFTER the last Developer.

        • Arjan van Leeuwen

This is because the Chromium version in Developer is ahead of the Chromium version in Beta (by one version, since Opera follows Chromium’s versioning scheme). When the beta is published doesn’t matter, because it uses a different Chromium stream (Chromium 53 for beta, Chromium 54 for developer currently). You can see the Chromium version by going to opera://about. They’re roughly equivalent to Chrome’s own beta and dev/canary streams.

So if you want to compare Opera and Chrome, you usually need to compare Opera beta to Chrome beta, Opera developer to Chrome dev or Canary.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Hi Arjan, nice to read you. Okay, the Chromium in the latest Vivaldi seems to be an older version (52.x), but Google Chrome is Version 54.0.2832.2 dev-m (64-bit).

        • Leonardo Gomes

          The BTS is not public.

          • redfox

Then posting it’s URL has no sense.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Well, if you just ignore the url format, there is the bug ID for reference.

          • redfox

The DNA database should be freely available, It would help to eliminate duplicit bug reports.

          • Leonardo Gomes

I’m not sure if a public BTS is really needed to avoid duplicates. Common sense and a little research can do it too.

Also, I don’t know if a public BTS would be really helpful or if it would bring more trouble.

          • redfox

If anybody needs to post a bug report, he really won’t search forums and all posts to be sure the problem wasn’t posted there already.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Neither the BTS.

          • Kornelia

It was an evidence that we have this on our radar.

thanks for your answer. that working with

but why i need to add this switch with 41.0.2323.0 & 41.0.2329.0 .
it’s very strange !! some changes in chronium Surely

  • Mat M

    Nevermind

  • Some sites using google like buttons or youtube buttons redirect to some wrong page sometimes, also “back” on reddit sometimes shows blank page with URL https://www.redditmedia.com/ads/display/300×250#, followed by JSON about subreddit you went to after the #.

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

This bug has been filed as DNA-56659.

    • Yukioh

same, really annoying and it does that with facebook, youtube, tumblr, outlook and gmail too

    • Marko Koivuniemi

Glad that I’m not the only one. I was already wondering are there some malware in my computer.

    • So much this! This is the most annoying bug EVER!

  • And what about x64 versions?

    • Aneta Reluga

AFAIK the fix is on its way. Hopefully the next developer will have x64 if it passes.

  • scam

    unusable build becasue of DNA-56659

    • Aneta Reluga

Apologies for the inconvenience. A very rough “workaround” for now in some cases would be to go back from the about:blank state (several times sometimes); the original link is still there. This one will be fixed with the next developer.

    • redfox

How can we know what DNA-56659 is?

      • Leonardo Gomes

        Reading the comments here? 🙂

        • redfox

          Maybe I could use a crystal sphere…

          • Leonardo Gomes

  • Footman

Since couple of last opera version i have a bug with many youtube html videos. The colors a totally wrong and look like kind of negative. That happens only in opera but no other browser. That happens by something like 30% of all youtube videos and has to do something with codec.

    here a screenshot: https://footman.tinytake.com/sf/OTI4OTQ4XzM5MTg0OTc

    • Aneta Reluga

What is your operating system? Thanks in advance.

      • Footman

        windows 10

      • Footman

        #disable-accelerated-video-decode helped me

    • L33t4opera

Hi Footman, enable opera:flags#disable-accelerated-video-decode, and relaunch the Opera. If this doesn’t help, then disable hardware acceleration: enable the “Advanced settings” in Preferences, and search for “hardware acceleration”, relaunch the Opera, and see if this helps.

      • Footman

        thanks #disable-accelerated-video-decode helped.

  • Windsong

Any word on when that they will get the 64-bit windows back up and running for testing? I and stalled out at the last published 64-bit developer 40.0.2296.0

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Is this also a problem of the new Chromium version? I close Opera and then restart it. All my before opened Amazon tabs show blank pages and I can not restore them. Instead of my Facebook page Opera shows only “Success”. The rest is blank too. What does this mean?

Edit: I went again back to the last Beta 40.0.2308.15 and don’t have these problems. I could restore all my Amazon pages just by going backwards (ALT + <-). And all contents and new postings load much faster with the Beta.

    • Nimbler

Same here – pages load and then go to some blank url.

    • Chris

Not exactly the same but also annoying.
Open up Amazon, than open a product site, go back and it shows an image-url or about:blank. Its not only Amazon, its on every Site.

    • Kornelia

Hi @ralfbrinkmann:disqus , no, it’s another issue and it was already reported internally. You will be updated as soon as we will fix that.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Thank you, Kornelia. Can we expect a new Beta today?

        • Kornelia

Sorry, we have a slightly delay with beta release.

    • L33t4opera

Hi Ralf, go to opera:plugins, and disable “Web feed handler”, clear the cache, and see if this helps.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

There is no “Web feed handler”.

        • L33t4opera

It is present here on Windows 7 and Linux, but forget it, it seems that it’s not the culprit, the bug is back again now 😉

  • redfox

OT: What’s new in Opera Stable 39.0.2256.55, will there be a changelog somewhere?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Probably here when they release it.

      • redfox

It’s on the FTP since yesterday.
There was no changelog for the previous stable version 39.0.2256.48 too.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Stable builds are uploaded to the FTP at least one day before the official release since about the beginning of the times.

  • David_Gould

Both 41.x releases seem to have memory corruption. I’m seeing blank pages, missing tabs, pages crashing randomly, pages randomly opening themselves, input focus switching by itself… Rare but still irritating enough to try and copy my ‘profile’ back to beta.

Bear in mind I have 280+ tabs, with delayed loading enabled. Also the Tabs Outliner extension is a bit buggy.

    • Ghirahim

      “I’m seeing blank pages”

Same here! Especially when I press “back” button. Never had this problem before. Unusable build. Also, it’s veeery sluggish.

      • Aneta Reluga

Apologies for the issue. It is known unfortunately, and the fix is on its way.

        • BK

          unfortunately?

          • Raylan Givens

Obviously he forgot a comma “it is known, unfortunately we didn’t catch it earlier” :S

    • Raylan Givens

Do a small video demonstration ( gif-like ). I really wonder how people like you use the browser with 280 tabs open. Mysterious and mystifying.

      • David_Gould

I just use them as temporary bookmarks.

  • GhorX

Extreme lags while loading pages… 🙁

Edit: Disabling “opera:plugins” – “Web feed handler” solved problem.
    Thanks to L33t4opera.

Edit2: Disabling mentioned plugin doesn’t help, closing tab is only way to solve enormous lags in page loading. Another bugs – nav-back is not working properly, in some cases leads to senseless URLs (probably random URL from cached page). Reopening page in some cases displays original page for short time, then empty page with “about:blank” in URL is opened over.

This is worst build which I experienced. :/

    • Ralf Brinkmann

I don’t see this plugin here.

    • Seeing the same issue here, especially apparent on Twitter Web.

    • redfox

And the changelog… (as I wrote below)

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Still on .48 here.

      • firuz_u7

but we still have Chrome 52.0.2743.82 for opera 39.0.2256.48

        • redfox

It is good for us, because recent builds are bugged. Better older, but without major glitches.

        • BK

          Update is incoming soon.

few week ago I found my opera stable 39 stop working with webGL. Try fix it all day diffirent ways (reinstalling, new drivers, regcleaner etc). Today I’m call to my brother and ask him wich browser he use. It was Opera 37. All sites with webGL works fine. So he offered to upgrade his opera to 39 to check. ok we download last 39th to his PC go to sites that using webGL and… nothing has worked! Only message “WebGL not supported by your browser, please go to https://get.webgl.org/ for support.” Good. Thanks for that! Tomorrow will begin to look for old version Opera or other browser…

    • L33t4opera

Hi, enable opera:flags#ignore-gpu-blacklist, and relaunch the Opera, then go to opera:gpu, and check if WebGL is hardware accelerated.
You can download previous versions of the Opera stable from here.

      • mark

It didn’t help. You can check this – download new opera.exe from main site and check webgl. And I’m sorry but I don’t understand why I need go deep inside in settings to get normal work my browser?

        • L33t4opera

It is like that, because the problem with WebGL support can be more complex (in certain cases), than one might think.
Most probably, the model of your graphics card, or the version of your graphics driver is blacklisted due to the various errors in case, when the WebGL hardware acceleration is enabled, and if so, then you can try to install one of the earlier, or newer versions (including beta drivers) of the driver for your video card, and see if the WebGL hardware acceleration is unblocked in that version.

You can find more details about it on the following websites: the BlacklistsAndWhitelists – WebGL public wiki , the GPU driver bug workarounds, and the software rendering list.

        • Leonardo Gomes

          WebGL works here.

Check opera://gpu to see if it says something regarding WebGL.

Problems with sync also here. Sometimes I had to restart Opera to get it working again.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

It’s the same problem with the last beta, that I’m just using. Maybe it’s a problem with the sync server and not with the Opera program.

  • Kamen Minkov

DNAWIZ-2886 is still with us on Windows 10.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Close all running Opera instances. Open a new Opera window.
    2. Switch to a different virtual desktop.
    3. Open Opera (by clicking a taskbar or start menu icon or from an
    external link).

    Actual result:
Opera switches to the already existing window (on the other virtual desktop)
and opens a new tab in it.

    Expected result:
Opera should only switch to an existing window if it’s on the same virtual
desktop. If the existing window is on another virtual desktop, it should
open a new window on the current virtual desktop (this is how it was two
    Opera Dev builds ago).

Does/has anyone seen this issue: when typing in the navigation bar, the font turns white? This also occurs when selecting a link in the navigation drop list.

    Win10 x64

  • idahamcooper

It seems the experimental x64 has gone the way of the Opera browser…. to the Chinese…

    • Leonardo Gomes

I guess they already explained that they are/were having issues making those x64 builds and that they (the builds) will return when they manage to fix the issues.

http://9gag.com – here published long gif – 1..3 min. Each time long gif stops somewhere in the middle, after a pause continues. In further repeat this gif does not stop. This behavior only on the main page (it is not necessary to go into the message). Maybe some sort of error in the buffer size for gif, etc?

    • Footman

its not gif. its html5 video. but still error is there.

  • I have a crazy annoying bug with the latest version, on all OSes (linux, windows and osx) everytime I go back to a tab and click back, it redirects to some random element of the page like an ad or a share button. I don’t know how to really well replicate it or explain it but if anyone experiences the same please tell.

    • Here’s one way to replicate it: Just close a tab and then press CTRL+SHIFT+T to re-open the closed tab. I’m getting redirected to about:blank and everytime I press back it redirects to about:blank and I cannot get it to work after that.

      • Vux777

maybe some of your extensions (if you have them) is causing those problems
try to replicate those problems you are experiencing in private window

        • Libor Dupák

Win7,no extensions. It does this also in private window. Usually happens on pages with login options – forums, etc.

          • Vux777

ok…I thought it was isolated case, but since more than one user is experiencing it, it’s probably a bug
someone should report it with short description on
            https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/desktop

    • ManOnTheBorder

I have the same exact problem with latest builds.

    • Marek

I have the same thing, also Google Maps seem to crash all the time.

    • Same here.

  • Also this very is a big memory hog for me. It filled my 8GB of ram on Windows 10 a few hours ago with about 10 tabs opened.

  • finerfeelings78

Pozdrawiam.

And what is this green thing? I don’t understand this language (and maybe others too), so I don’t know if it’s important or wanted. I don’t use the built in adblocker, I use uBlock Origin, but here this green thing is also blocked. So this is not a problem of Opera (I guess), but of the block lists you use. That means, you must tell the author of the lists that this green thing should not be blocked. Or you must createe an exception for it.

      • Leonardo Gomes

If that element is also blocked by ublock, then it’s a list issue.

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, and it’s also blocked in Google Chrome, Vivaldi and Firefox. So it has nothing to do with Opera itself. And maybe some block lists programmers think that this element should be blocked.

    • Leonardo Gomes

How uBlock and other ad-blockers behave on that site? If they also block that element, then it’s a list issue and not an Opera’s bug.

    • Юлия

The site uses unorthodox methods (tracking purposes, maybe?): https://i.imgur.com/EmsadOa.png

in uBlockOrigin under My rules, create:

      f.ua googletagmanager.com * allow

googletagmanager.com is blocked in many lists (if not most) as tracker, including EasyList and MVPS hosts (system-wide).

You may want to let them know about it on their forum https://forums.lanik.us/ although besides whitelisting for that particular domain not much else can be done. Also whoever knows the notion of ad blocking does not need support 😉 And whoever needs support does not know about ad locking 🙂

  • Tavroz

i have been a week with login issues in my opera developer acount, the auto login at the start doesnt work

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Which login? Synchronize, Disqus or any other account?

      • Tavroz

        my Opera account

        • Ralf Brinkmann

This is because Opera has reset all user passwords because of security reasons and sent all users an email to create a new password.

    • Leonardo Gomes

You mean your Opera account (the one you use in Sync, etc)? If so, have you already read this?:

in this versoin +5-10 sec load time and after reopen opera some insets reload like blank insets. On 2323 all was ok.

This is known issue and we’ve already solved this problem internally. The fix is coming with the next update.

Yes it’s Windows 10 x64. Also I think it happens only in Opera dev (haven’t checked beta though)

  • bradblast

The VPN has not been working since I updated to the latest version. And when I try to go back to a previous version working, it is still telling me “disabled.”

    • redfox

You should backup your profile before an upgrade…

      • bradblast

It’s a little too late for that, I am not an expert and did not realize that. Is there anything I can do at this point?

        • redfox

You can check in opera://flags, if VPN is enabled (set to Active).

  • Awesome, Love Opera. No issues here.

It’s ok Kornelia. Mine was just a manifestation of displeasure. 😉

  • Dark Magician

    How about tab stacking?

    • Alexander Addams

gods knows i’ve been waiting too

  • Please, we NEED a new build. I cannot keep sync logged in, it logs itself out every few minutes. My tabs keeps redirecting like many stated. I have a LOT of crashes related to high memory usage. I know and fully understand this is a DEV build, but right now for me on 3 different OSes (OSX/WIN/LINUX) it is unusable.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Welcome to developer channel. 🙂

Regarding Sync, have you already reset your password?

      • Thanks but I’ve been using it for the past months with no major issues hehe 😛
Yes I resetted my password a week ago when the hack has been announced. Thx

        • Leonardo Gomes

Maybe you just had some luck. 🙂

Anyway, Sync seems to be working for me. I had no issues logging in after password reset.

  • rafal

on mac opera developer forces to be default mail application – even if I change it in apple mail pref is still goes back to opera dev – it’s annoying as i cannot use mailto links. please fix it

    • Afonso

      Same here

  • Nuno Cabeçadas

I stop using Opera Dev since the last update. It become slow and irresponsive, is always asking for sync, and the password was already reset, sometimes crash and the overall performance is bellow other browsers I have. Was expecting a new build early this week but nothing show, so needed to change all Opera Dev to another browser.

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

Opera Developer is a development stream, where problems are more or less expected: if you’re not using it for testing, you’re better off using Opera’s normal stable stream. There’s an explanation about what to expect from Opera’s streams here: http://blogs.opera.com/desktop/streams/ .

      • Nuno Cabeçadas

Never had such problems with Opera, with any dev release. I work in the IT industrie for more than 25 years and know how and where to test. Testing in operational controlled environments is needed, with several different configurations and tasks, not just have the browser in a single PC and see randomly what may or may not happen. If I didn’t need to test or using features only available in the dev editions, I had another version.

  • Quite annoyingly, Opera keeps redirecting to a blank page every time I click the back button.

    • Aneta Reluga

This is a known issue, will be fixed with the next release. Sorry.

  • asus servis adana
  • Cristi

Hi. The possibility to switch back to a previous build would be welcomed on such “less than perfect” releases. As request please add the option to click the current tab to go to the previous selected tab and an option to sort/group all tabs by site (for them maniacs with more than 50 tabs open 😀 ).

  • TwistedAndy

I’ve switched to the another browser version because of issue with blank page on page loading. Two weeks has passed, but this critical issue wasn’t fixed.

Previous development releases were much stable.

    • Leonardo Gomes

It seems that developer channel is not for you. 🙂

      • TwistedAndy

For whom is the developer channel?

I’m the professional web developer and I’m not ready to suffer with a blank pages for a weeks. Have you tried to reload the browser with at least 20-30 opened tabs?

This is not the minor issue, this is the critical bug and usually such kind of issues should be fixed very quickly. I’m very glad that this issue was internally fixed more than a week ago, but where is the build? I’m not ready to suffer during the weeks.

The similar situation was with the previous developer build. There was a serious issue with inputting the some characters in the address bar when the extended keymap was enabled.

I’m using the developer channel versions since it was launched and all was good before last month. Seems like all the testers are on the vacation.

        • Leonardo Gomes

“It is provided for web developers (as the name suggests) and enthusiasts who are not afraid of some bumps in the road.”

          http://blogs.opera.com/desktop/streams/

So if you can’t deal with those ‘bumps’ then you may prefer using the stable version.

And it would be impossible for them (or almost any software house) to test every single bug scenario before a build release, that’s why they have public alpha and beta test programs.

If they had to internally test every possibility, we wouldn’t be seeing a new builds for weeks, months or even years and we would only get stable versions.

          • TwistedAndy

The developers should use the product they are making. The issue with blank pages was reported one day after the release.

Before the browser switching I need to quickly press Alt+Left, Stop and Reload buttons for almost the each tab after the browser reload. I can do it for a few days, but not the weeks. I have a self-esteem.

          • Leonardo Gomes

They use. However, as said ,they can’t figure out all issues and fix it before every single build release.

And even if it was the case, not all bugs will prevent a release, specially in developer channel.

  • Fernando Kirov

same blank page problem with the latest build. I understand this is Dev but it’s unusable in the current state.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

This dev has it’s own life and it’s not compatible with my life. I hope on next monday we’ll receive a solution.

    after last update:
    1. problem with back to the previous site – browser opens a strange sides.
    2. problem with restoring sites after freezing / restarting

    • Springer

Regarding prob.1; I have the exact same problem, a tab will sometimes automatic lead to some new site, and i can’t go back to the original site.

  • doogie

On my personal laptop, the VPN, Downloads and Battery-saver menus in the top bar appear to be broken (Synchronization works fine). The buttons themselves work (battery changer changes color, download button shows progress and finished downloads, buttons are responsive to mouse-over and click events) but the pop-up menu doesn’t appear.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the issue remains. Meanwhile, everything works perfectly on my office desktop…

    New build – Opera developer 41.0.2340.0 😉

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      I hope it’s better!

Hm. VPN not working. I don’t know, if it’s in the know issues. The changelog of this blog here leeds to “not found”.

      • MadEddy

        VPN works for me.

      • nanana1

Tested this new Developer 2340 build and VPN is working well here. :))

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Really? No, not here. It does not connect, there is no serverlist and I receive a message “The VPN is temporarily unavailable. Opera is working on solving the problem.”

          • nanana1

Try creating a new profile and see if that helps to connect to VPN. 😉

          • Ralf Brinkmann

But Opera is working on the solution, so I should not disturb them! 😉

          • nanana1

A fresh profile solved the VPN connection problem for me. 😉

      • L33t4opera

Hi Ralf, perhaps it’s temporary issue. Try to disable the VPN, then enable it again, but don’t change the location yet, close the pop-up, and wait few seconds, then open it again, and try to select another location. If this dosn’t work, then try to use clean profile, as Nanana1 has metioned it below, or if you still have previous version, try to laumch it, enable VPN, then close it, run new version, and check if this helps 😉

The change log, and the announcement have been published.

    Hi.
I have an issue with some media on sites like Wowhead.
When entering links with 3d models, in the model window there’s this:
“WebGL not supported by your browser, please go to https://get.webgl.org/ for support.”
3-4 weeks ago there were no issue with this and it appeared after Opera update
My video drivers, directx and others are fresh. I reinstalled Windows but it didn’t work.
I love this browser. but it annoys me as hell.
I would appreciate if you help me with this problem.
    Thank you in advance.
